Got there right at 8:03am and figured I'd be the only one there. To my surprise, there were 4 barbers there already and by the time I sat down, all were occupied. The place is popular and for good reason. They do great cuts!

I was very skeptical about going here at first. I recently moved to NYC and I had been getting my hair cut by the same guy for the past 10 years. Clinton Street Barber Shop rocks. The staff is friendly, Serge is extremely friend and puts you at ease. I've gotten my hair cut by Ray and Anastasia, both did excellent job and actually cared about how it turned out. Even if I have to wait for either one of them, I'm willing to because they both do an excellent job. After I'm done, I don't even mind the 70+ minute train ride back to my home in Queens. The level of service one receives is worth the trip.

I can't praise the guys at this place enough. I went on New Year's Eve so it was incredibly busy. I put my name down on the waiting list, came back after an hour, and still had to wait for an hour. But the guys there, especially Serge, the owner, went ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty in providing for the customers. Besides his friendly and entertaining chit-chat Serge ordered in a couple of pizzas, provided wine, and kept pouring toasts to the New Year. While this (obviously!) can't be expected on a regular visit, I am sure that he is just as stellar a host as he was when I went, and he obviously had a very good rapport with the locals. He made me feel like a local on my first trip. I actually wish I lived in Brooklyn just so I could keep coming back here. And as for the haircut: top-notch! Have to say it's the best I've had. And at $16, not bad value. At first I wasn't quite happy with the length at the back - not a problem, he adjusted it (exactly how I wanted it). Despite the long line of customers, Serge wanted to make sure I left with the haircut I was after. Nothing was too much trouble. As I said at the beginning, I can't praise these guys enough.

I walked in around 2pm on a Saturday and was told I could leave my number and get called in about 25 minutes. There were about 8 people ahead of me. I arrived back half an hour later to wait and had still not been seen by 3pm. During my wait I witnessed one of the barbers (I’m guessing the manager) repeatedly ask a man why he didn’t get his eyebrows done and badger customers to eat donuts and drink beer.

First time I went, great haircut by Francesco, he was in Italy so went to a noter guy. yesterday. The barber asked how I wanted my hair, I said shorter so I could wear i spikey on top. Well though he used mosty a scissor, I got te shortest haircuts of my 63 years., could have done it myself with an electric trimmer. It is literally no longer than a half inch and back maybe a 1/4 inch! Well, one good thing, now I know what I would look like if BALD

They do an amazing job. They take their time and that's what I love about the place. EDIT: So when I originally wrote this review I was really happy with Clinton Street barbershop. But after 6 months I had changed barbers. The head barber is unfortunately short staffed with barbers who unfortunately take far to long to cut one person's hair (an hour to do a fade is far to long). Add to this that the place is quite popular, the barbers seem to be more interested in chatting than cutting hair, and a "line" (piece of paper with names on it and nobody seems to know who ACTUALLY is next) that has no organization...I'd frequently spend close to 2 1/2 HOURS on a Saturday waiting for a haircut. After having this happen about three or four times I decided to move on to another barbershop who'd value my time more. It's not the skill that is the issue, it's the lack of organization and the long wait time which made me rewrite this review.

They seem to only know how to cut hair short. I've been here twice, both times I asked for just a trim, both times I left practically buzzed. I had to explain what I wanted 4 times to the barber who proceeded to almost tear my ears off to cut behind them. I won't be going back.

This is my barber shop. I'm a local and although there's many places to get your hair cut in NYC, this is the only place I'll go. One of the co-owners, Serg, is the face of the shop and greets you with a smile like you're family. Even when he's not there the other barbers are great too. The barber shop is one of those places where men want to go to relax and this place delivers. I always get the cut I asked for, they finish the edges with lather and a straight razor, and then they give you a hot towel for your face. You'll be happy with the cost too. It's very fair, especially when compared to other shops in the area.

partner went here for a haircut due to great reviews. The (old) man who cut his hair treated him very aggressively, hitting his head with a comb. Told me his head hurt the entire day. Today, I just noticed that the back of his head wasn't shaved well. It wasn't straight and one side was higher than the other. the haircut didn't really flatter him either. His previous haircut done at another place was way better. He won't be coming back.

Excellent value for a men's or women's haircut. I visited with a friend and getting into a chair took only about five minutes, even without appointments. My friend has short, straight hair of medium thickness and I have long, curly hair which is fine. Both haircuts were quick but turned out great. I wouldn't recommend going here for an extensive consultation, but if you have a good idea of what you want, they'll be hard to beat for the price.

First time here. Staff was friendly and fast--I was able to walk in and immediately be seated and get a haircut. Price is pretty reasonable too, and I'm reasonably happy with my haircut, though at times it felt like my hairdresser wasn't 100% on the same page as me. Overall, I'd recommend!

I want to like this place I really do. But the last 3 times I've been there I've walked away unsatisfied. Today was prob my last time there. After my haircut my barber said he liked what he did w my beard but wasn't crazy about the haircut he gave me. I asked for a fade and def didn't get that. And I said well you cut it so if you don't like it try and fix it. He said it will just have to grow out. The owner means well bit instead of talking to everyone who walks in it might be best to focus on the person in his chair.

Sergei is awesome. A great host and very friendly. The shop is old school and there are tons of regulars who can attest to the great work by Serg and Anastasia. This was my first time here and I ended up with neither of those two. I saw other great cuts there, but not mine. Mine was the worst haircut in at least the past 10 years. She cut it so short there is basically nothing I can do to hide it except to wait for nature to take it's course and the hair to grow out. This mistake couldn't have come at a worse time as I get married in a month. Gulp.....

Went here because of the good reviews, but my experience was just ok. While the guys were very friendly with their regulars in the shop, I was more or less ignored the entire time. Not a big deal for me, but could be for some people, so I thought I'd mention it. My main concern is that the barber apparently didn't understand what I wanted and cut it short where I wanted it longer and left it long where I wanted it short. When he tried to check with me on the length most of the way through the cut, I asked if he would thin it out more on the sides and (after translating through one of the other guys since he didn't speak English well) he assured me that he would thin it out later. He only sort of did. The front ended up looking okay but not quite what I wanted, and he didn't show me the back at all, so I didn't realize until later that the back was super long. I probably could have gone back and gotten it adjusted but honestly I was just over it at that point. So, all in all, not a bad cut, per se, but not great and not what I wanted.

Anastasia gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. I wanted something specific and showed her a picture on my phone. She didn't just glance at it like most do. She looked at it very carefully and went back to it during the cut -- and asked me a few questions to clarify what I want. It was perfect. The place has an incredibly laid back but friendly and authentic feeling. There's no BS and these guys know what they're doing but manage to do it while still being friendly. Excellent experience.

Visited here 2 times and I'm sorry to say , I didn't leave with a smile . While their hot shave is nice , my beard was uneven and one side didn't match the other . I asked for taper and it seems they only skilled at bald or fade . This shop is awesom! But gets really busy. I only go to Serge. After one of the other barbers gave me a "so-so" cut, Serge asked how I felt about it and sensing my dissatisfaction asked me to wait for him to finish the man he was working on. He fixed it, and has perfected his concurrant cuts to my liking. I recieve many complements on my hair. All employees are welcoming and seem to be very competent, and I have not seen the guy who messed up my do the first time. Apprehensive about writing a review because better ratings bring more customers, but Clinton Street Barber Shop deserves praise.

This was my regular place a couple years ago. The haircuts ranged from "decent" to "good" but never really had a great haircut here. However,he service was always great and friendly and the haircuts were always reasonably priced. TODAY, I went back and had the worst haircut experience in along time. The barber was VERY inexperienced, very unfriendly and when I tried to tell him that I didnt like something (really he was just neglecting what I told him I wanted in the beginning to get away with just doing a simple buzz cut) he would tell me that it was MY fault that it wasnt coming out how I wanted. He didnt know what a fade was and I ended up with a 5 on the sides and some sad mop on top. Very aloof, unprofessional, and condescending Bottom Line: Its a gamble - you may get some of the experienced barbers (the shorter woman with glasses is fantastic and friendly) but you may get stuck with someone whose own hair looks like he used a cheese grater on it

Great place. Staff (esp Serg) were extremely friendly. The haircut and shave were great. I had never gotten a shave at a barber before and it was enjoyable. A lot of bang for your buck I'd say. If you're at the marriot its a quick walk. Highly recommended.

Just took my 16-month old there and a new barber, Umit, did a fantastic job! He was careful, patient with a bit of crying, and gave the kid a very nice haircut. It is so much nicer than what my son has gotten at children's salons and at least $10 bucks cheaper!
