I have been to tons of barber shops around Manhattan and Brooklyn but Made Man is the best. Over the last few years I have had seen several of the barbers at the Madison/23rd Street location and have had a great experience with all of them but Richie is the man! A coworker of mine recommended MadeMen as a better alternative to Fellow Barber and they were completely right. You get the same quality haircut here as you would a place you're paying $50+. Steven does a great job at blending with a buzzer, I also go to Edo and Marina often. Would definitely recommend this place, compared to smaller barber shops you may pay a few more bucks but I find that's worth it for consistently good haircut. Also, on weekends they usually have good music playing and a bartender on site.

When I reached out to the manager "Sam chulpayev" about the poor quality of overall service that I received, I was greeted by one of the most aggressive and rude responses that I've ever received by a business owner. Laura did such a poor job with my beard trim that I was forced to trim it all off. The haircut was quite mediocre as well. $52 for a rushed haircut and a subpar beard trim is just unacceptable, considering the innumerable options out there!

Mark is a boss. I'd never met the guy but he did an insanely good job with my hair and beard. And my hair isn't easy to cut! (just about every barber, including Mark, has said this). He didn't sacrifice time with the quality of the work either. I got a beard trim, shave, hair wash, hair cut, and blow dry in an hour all while we had great conversations. If you like a quality cut during your lunch break with a personable jokester, Mark is your guy!

Most of the barbers can only perform two haircut styles. Otherwise it’ll be a mess. Last 3 times I’ve used this shop it was a disappointment. Hunt a little more for something better. Anywhere that makes you pay ahead for the appt knows their service leads to people not wanting to pay.

The quality/cost ratio is so low. I could get an even better haircut and service at any other “regular” barbershop. This location does not lives up to the brand’s reputation. I have been at other locations both domestically and internationally, and I am in a position to say that this location is by far below the standards. Do yourself a favor and go to the Chelsea one a few blocks away.

Moved to NYC a couple of months ago and haven’t found a new barber yet. Walked in 35 minutes before closing (I called ahead to see if that would be okay) and they got me set right up as soon as I walked in with a great barber, his name was Mark. He asked what I wanted done with it and I told him what I generally get done every couple of months and that I’m not that dedicated to taking care of my hair. I told him I’d be willing to do it more frequently if I had a hairstyle that I really liked and wanted to keep so I asked him to do what he would do if he had my hair and head shape and everything. He knew what to do straight off the bat and gave me one of the best cuts I’ve had in years, along with a bunch of good tips on how to take care of my kind of hair. Mark is my guy for good now. Funny, good guy to talk to, knows his stuff about hair, and has big dreams in tech. Man was a pleasure to speak with. Go and ask for Mark!

Literally every barber there is extremely talented, they all know how to cut and style everything from short to long hair, and they are so professional. I’ve been getting my haircut at this location by Dennis for what will be 2 years in 2019. A friend of mine who recommend the barbershop and specifically Dennis has been going and getting his haircut here and by Dennis for even longer than I. However, I travel from NJ just to get my haircut; whereas my friend is NYC based. Which says a lot; traveling in general, gas, tolls, parking, etc. Everything adds up and that’s without the service/tip, but regardless; Dennis is consistently on the money! Especially, with his ‘Fade,’ work; it’s truly the best I’ve ever had. Not too mention that Dennis is always a pleasure to see; along with fellow barber Rey and Manager Danny. Each and every single visit they make me feel both welcomed and appreciated; which is important because aside from the work that’s done in the chair by Dennis; it’s what keeps the customer to continuously return. Price point is decent for NYC, but worth it none the less; there are other barbershops throughout Manhattan that charge far more money, but with far less work worthy of their price(s). Anyone in this shops location is a go to, but I’d specifically recommend Dennis and/or Rey. Tell them I sent you and I guarantee you won’t leave dissatisfied!

Wish I found this place years ago. I usually go to a local barber near the office but find them a bit dirty and rough around the edges. Went to Made Man for the first time today and found it to be a relaxing environment with true pros who are a step above the neighborhood barber. Couple that with the fact that every haircut is a surprise (I can't see anything with my glasses off) and you have a very skittish customer. And star of the show is Malik, whom I found out during my second visit there. My husband has been coming here off and on for years. He had his last visit in September 2018 when our card was charged twice. After noticing a double charge on our credit card statement he called and was told the second charge would be refunded. A month passed with no refund so he called again and was again told the second charge would be refunded. Another month passed with no refund so I finally reported it to our credit card but they said too much time had passed (outside of a two month window) and to take up the dispute with the merchant. Obviously we are out the money and left feeling very frustrated with this business. We thought we were doing the right thing by giving the merchant the benefit of the doubt and letting them make it right but it was all a waste of time. Take your money (and possibly twice at that) elsewhere. *editing after (owner) response, please provide me with your email address, I would love to finally resolve this and would be happy to change my review if we could finally get suitable customer service

I had to try a number of different spots in the city when I moved here in January 2018 since it's so difficult finding people who can adequately cut curly hair with scissors and also do razor fades, especially near my office downtown. Got a last-minute cut done before my recent trip to Moscow and I think it's the best one I've ever had! As someone who likes hot shaves this place was really disappointing - almost no skin prep (1 hot towel for 30 secs) then a rough shave with several facial cuts and in the end used an electric foil razor to do most of the work! A cold towel and weird massage vibrator on the face finished the experience. No barber skills at all!

Let me first say, Made Man Barber is the place to go. The shop it self was very clean, well lit, and the atmosphere was inviting. you don't get that uncomfortable feeling like you do at other barbershops. Once you walk in , you are immediately greeted by the staff. They are friendly, inviting, and will answer any questions you have. The wait is very minimal which is amazing. My barber (Josh) was fantastic and awesome. He listened to what I was looking for, gave me recommendation on what would look best on me, and kept me entertained. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and this is definitely where I'll be going back to. If you haven't gotten a cut there before, you are definitely missing out. So what are you waiting for? As soon as I opened my mouth, he knew what I wanted to ask so my understanding is he didn't change it because he was lazy not because he forgot. I was also not happy with my haircut. I could easily notice after I took shower that one side is a bit longer than other. This was my bad bad experience from last year. There might be better barbers working at this place but my experience was qualified for a 1 star review and I won't be getting back there ever again.

Sonia is amazing!!! I'm a few months new to NYC and after finding a good barber, my plans changed last minute and he was longer available. I took the risk and came here where I randomly ended up with Sonia. The risk paid off because not only is she super nice and down to earth, but she did an amazing job on my hair! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! I told her how I usually style it, the problem cuts I had in the past with people not listening, and my potential worries for this cut. We had great conversation, and a short while later I left we with a great cut and new place to get my hair done! As for the shop in general, clean environment, and booked with what looked like happy guests. The check in area is all the way at the back and threw me off a bit. I was a little confused because I had made an appointment to make sure I'd be able to see someone and when I arrived, it didn't really seem to matter because the girl at the desk, while polite, seemed a little confused and didn't even look at the computer. Regardless, next time I come here, I'll definitely be booking time with Sonia. Great place! (Posting this same review on Yelp)

I’m really disappointed in my cut, I usually come here and don’t have issues, but I was very clear with what I wanted and showed a picture. The barber decided to chop off all my hair and cut it completely different, without telling me, because he thought it looked better than the photo. I’m pretty heart broken because I spent a while growing out my hair for a specific style... I suggest finding a barber here you trust and stick to them. I don’t recommend just walking in.

Made Man Barber shop is the only place I ever go in the city, and I've tried quite a few. Finally a place that really understands how to cut men's hair! I have had many of the stylists cut my unruly hair and I've never once left disappointed. They check in constantly and make you very comfortable. And for what you get the price is right on track. Went in for a basic men's hair cut with Matt. Had two separate issues. The first being that Matt did not know how to cut hair. For whatever reason, he wasn't able to cut my hair proportionally. Also, he thought it would be a great idea to shave a half inch of hair off while trimming the hair on my neck. The second issue being that Matt was completely unprofessional. I asked him to trim my sides and his response was "I can't because of the way your hair is styled." He followed this up with "We do this every day. I know what I'm doing. We do this every day." Just because you do something every day, doesn't mean you're good at it. Would not recommend going here.

What a disappointment. Made Man had me in and out of the seat in about 12-15 minutes, for $38. When I checked out, I had to remind the hostess that I actually prepaid when I booked my appointment online. When I turned around to leave, there was my barber, sitting in the chair on his cell phone (as were several other barbers), and nobody even offered a goodbye when I left. He couldn't have spent maybe 5 more minutes on my cut instead of sitting on his phone? $38 for a subpar 12-15 minute haircut is simply unacceptable, considering the competition. In contrast, I pay the same $38 for a scissor cut at a salon further up in Midtown, and they take about 40 minutes for my cut, they give me a wash and shampoo (Made Man does not), they offer free espresso and a shoe shine (Made Man does not), they offer you product for your hair at the end (Made Man did not), and they all have the courtesy to say thank you and wish you a proper goodbye before you leave. Their only drawback is they close a little earlier than Made Man - a very minor consideration. As a concierge of a hotel nearby, I try out the services of local businesses on a regular basis, which I always feel obligated to do before recommending them to hotel guests. I don't advertise my position - I just go in as a normal every-day client to get a realistic first-hand account of the service and overall experience, and do my due diligence. When I encounter a disappointing experience like at Made Man, I always reach out to the management directly first - which I did over a week ago. Having heard nothing back, I am left to assume that Made Man doesn't value my feedback, which is really quite unfortunate. As such, I don't see the value in returning, or recommending them to others, until I've heard something from their management, and I feel that other prospective clients have the right to know about my personal experience.
