I've had haircuts all over New York. Rudy's is the best. I don't have the most complicated cut in the world, but boy it can be easy to screw up. Rudy and his staff seem to get what's "on-trend" and I'm in and out of there in 15-20 minutes flat. I recommend booking an appointment because (I know at least) Rudy books up quickly.

The comb nor any of the clippers or attachments were sanitized before use. The razor for my shave was previously used. The kicker was the "hot" towels used on my face were the ones sitting already wet in the only sink in the place. Which was where I just washed my hands from the bathroom. Thankfully I can sport a razor burned face well. And have had a tetanus shot. So should live to see the place closed down. Oh and of course they didn't wash their hands before the shave and cut or seem to particularly care about much at all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU ENJOY DIRTY, OVER-PRICED SERVICE OR NEED A LEGITIMATE EXCUSE NOT TO BE SEEN IN PUBLIC FOR A WEEK. Found on Google, made an online reservation for later the same day, went there 5 min early, and was served almost immediately. I was really happy with the haircut, especially considering that it was my first haircut in the US after moving here from Switzerland, and that's mostly because Rudy took the time to find the right length and style. He even had some great suggestions for my beard after the haircut. Definitely my new US barber of choice!

Went for the first time this evening as a walk-in. Asked to get the side trimmed and a bit off the top. Cut way too high around my ears, moved my neck hairline up by 1/2", and cut my neck on both sides with a dull razor. Decent atmosphere, but terrible haircut.

Poor quality haircut compared to what their website is selling - "modern haircuts". I know my hair well and explain what I want in detail by describing it AND showing pictures of previous haircuts I've had. Plus I show videos and pictures of what I'm looking for from various angles. I did this here and walked out with nothing more than a basic undercut and no attention to the style or texture I asked for. I kept referencing the pictures when he was done. I had to push to get more style out of my hair cut but kept being told it was good and how I want it. I finally asked him to texture the top but this verified the lazy approach to cutting my hair. Nothing more than a single quick cut with the texture scissors and him saying again, 'it is good. you will like it.' I gave up on explaining what I needed done. Simply, this is not a place that "cater[s] solely to males that are looking for upscale hair treatments."

I am new to New York and upon arriving in the city, I needed to find a good place for a haircut. I have always been a Great Clips person, as it just seems to be the cheapest and easiest place to go. Since there are no Great Clips in Manhattan, I had to give in and find a barber shop. I ended up at Chelsea Garden Barber Shop after reading all of the positive reviews on Google. I walked in, sat right down, and Abe cut my hair. He did a great job from start to finish. He made sure he knew exactly what I wanted and he made it happen. Best of all - only $17! What a bargain! I am so glad to have found this place on my first haircut in the city and I will be returning to Abe regularly to cut my hair. I highly recommend him!

There are plenty of barbershops in Chelsea. A guy needing a hair cut - or just a trim, can find a plethora of them on/or near 23rd Street between 6th Avenue and 10th Avenue. But for me, having lived in the area for 38 years, none can hold a candle - or more aptly, a pair of scissors, to Chelsea Garden Barber Shop! The barbers are courteous, amiable, professional, and easy to talk to. They are a pleasant and sociable team of professionals ably lead by Rudy who is a gracious, accessible, master barber. You hint at what kind of cut you think you may want and they know exactly what to do, and what will look best on you. The prices are very reasonable...AND THE CUTS ARE FLAWLESS! You are guaranteed to walk out with a smile on your face, and not a hair out of place.

I was referred to Rudy by a co-worker. Last night I made an appt online for 2:15 PM today. When I arrived at 2 PM Rudy (who is the man in the window) was working with a client and attempted to usher me to another barber. I then introduced myself and said I was his 2:15 appointment. Rudy then told me he was busy and that someone else would take me. Well, the reason I booked an appt with Rudy is because I’m VERY particular about my fades and really liked my co-workers. I don’t understand the purpose of online booking if you don’t honor those appointments here in 2018. Being that it’s a holiday weekend and I was leaving town I tried Arthur which needless to say was a mistake. The fade is uneven and it looks nothing like the photo I showed him. When I was in the chair it was clear he took one side up to high but i wasn’t going to play the let’s “even this out” game so I told him to finish and went to another salon down the street to finish it. I would never come back to this establishment nor would I recommend anyone to this shop.

Arthur did me good! I walked in looking like a cross between a lesbian and a 12 year old boy without much of an idea of what I wanted. He made sure to make me feel comfortable, asked for my opinion often, answered any questions I had, and gave me solid beard advice even though I was just in for a haircut. He understood my hair (Chinese porcupine head) better than my previous barber who I paid over fifty for. Under his expertise, I was finally able to take the plunge of cutting my sides shorter than I've ever had for a popular style guys my age have and I've been feeling good since. UPDATE (10/19/18): Got my hair cut again by Arthur a few days ago. Still killing it! I made an appointment but realized I couldn't make it so I tried to reschedule. I couldn't find a time that worked so I just cancelled it altogether. He noticed quickly and reached out to me. He was able to fit me into his schedule and gave me another awesome cut! Haven't been feeling good about my hair lately so this was a definite self-esteem booster.

Friendly but surprisingly subpar haircut service. Arthur is the guy wearing glasses. He does not seem to be an experienced barber who has received professional training. He held the scissors like an amateur and did give me a very amateur looking haircut – uneven and patchy. I was so shocked, disappointed, and embarrassed. I was laughed by a real barber I seeked elsewhere to rescue my bad haircut done by Arthur. BTW, most of the excellent reviews for Arthur seemed to be done by brand new reviewers on Google Map. Isn't that strange? Customers may be lured in by those "excellent reviews", but will only visit again after receiving truly professional service for the first visit. Cannot recommend Arthur's service to anyone seeking true professional haircut service.

I came from out of state was worried about finding a great barber. I got a hair cut with Arthur ( the barber with the glasses). I got to have a nice convo while the guy cut my hair super accurate to the picture I provided - although I worried it was too long in the back, I said it was awesome cuz it ended up framing my face super well. I messed up the machine during the tip but they were super nice and didn't mind. Shortly after I left, I realized I should have asked for it shorter, so I came running back. Another guy offered to do it for free, which was super cool of him and he made it short as hell like I wanted (not the cleanest shave ever but it still went above and beyond my expectations considering it was a free touch up post-haircut). Heard about this place through Strands for Trans (a site listing barbershops that have a safe and gender-affirming environment for people who are trans). Surely enough, I said I wanted the cut super masculine and nobody batted an eye. Judgement free zone! Got a lot of compliments and felt great about the cut so I will be coming back here as soon as I need!

Great haircut for 20 bucks, right in Chelsea...the whole team gives a quality cut, but you can either walk in or make an appointment with one of them. These guys are a Manhattan staple and I highly recommend this place.

Upon saying I think it is too short- under his breathe he mutters "the hair was out of control." I did not ask for his opinion and will never go back. Completely rude and does not listen. He also looks miserable at his job. Do not go there.

After moving to the area a few months ago and having a few subpar haircuts in some other spots I'm relieved to finally find a quality barbershop. Rudy cut my hair and as other reviewers have have mentioned he is beyond excellent. He offers recommendations if you need him to and provides a very thorough haircut. If you have him as your barber you won't leave disappointed. The other barbers seemed very qualified and they were all very engaging with the customers to try to give you exactly what you want. I highly recommend this shop and will be returning on a regular basis.

I have lived in Chelsea for over 40 years. I have witnessed the change from 'mom and pop' businesses to a growing boom of corporate establishments that have invaded the landscape. There are also a few businesses that have managed to stay because of the permanent contribution of loyal patrons that refuse to take their business elsewhere. There are some small businesses like the Chelsea Barber Shop that regenerates the complements of home. This little shop has all the familiar appeal of big business in a small four-chair barber shop, and gives to its patrons a great haircut, to beard- shaping excellence, that can't be found on Madison Ave on 23rd St. So I say to you if you need to look great, feel great, and know that when you leave this shop, that the professional touch of an expert pair of scissors makes leaving this establishment be put high on a list of an over gentrified community experience was all worth it. Hardly a wait for this welcomed visit at all. Next time you need a grooming, please take a chance on this place. 'Rudy Sciccorhand' is the proprietor that could be the next compliment to your wardrobe, from head to toe. Pay a visit to the gentlemen on 23rd St, between 7th and 8th, and have an experience.

I can't say enough good things about this place; the only thing that would stop me is to prevent others from stealing my haircut appointment times. Cheapest haircut in town ($19) that won't make you look like the villain in a Bond flick. Make sure to make an appointment with Rudy, the owner; I've been going to him for over 2 years now and have never looked back. How else could this place exist in a fashionable neighborhood like Chelsea if it wasn't so freaking good?

I've had hair on my head for almost my entire life and nobody has understood the way this hair grows as well as Arthur who works here at Chelsea Gardens. Arthur can take my clumsy, inarticulate instructions, and carve and clip my hair into the exact shape I want almost as if he's opening a little sliding door into my forehead and reading my thoughts. It's a great barbershop experience and I couldn't recommend it any higher, just walk in, sit down, and ask for Arthur. If he's not available, ask when he will be and come in then.
