Once I moved back to Jersey City, I couldn't find a barber that could cut my hair the same way my old barber in California could do it. Then I found Al and his shop and now I have a consistent barber that cuts my hair the same way each time. My barber Desiree wasn't great - maybe she was new - I'd avoid her. She didn't seem to know how to cut short hair and was uncomfortable using the buzzer. I got a buzzcut and realized after I left that I was charged for the haircut instead - which is $15 more. Overall I'd avoid.

Called in as soon as they opened to book an appointment. The woman asked if I could do 1:30 and I told her that was too late and asked if they had anything earlier so she told me 12:30. I got there at 12:30 and sat there for 35 minutes while three people went ahead of me before I just left. Seems like they just double book appointments and got backed up. I would've appreciated them just telling me that they were fully booked and I could've gone elsewhere and not wasted my time.

I don't have experience with other barbers in the shop, as I've only gotten my hair cut by Al. Al is great, ge genuinely cares about his customers and is a very friendly guy. He gives you his genuine opinion. I told him that I might want the top shorter initially, but he told me to trust him and just wait until he's blow dryed it, since hair typically looks different wet vs dry. I trusted him and definitely would have regretted cutting the top shorter. He really takes his time and cares. Balkan Barber Shop has become my go to barber shop in Jersey City.

I've been going to Balkan Barbershop for months now, and I get a hair cut every week with Al. Each time is a great experience. Al is very personable, and a highly skilled barber. In fact, I have went to different barbershops in Manhattan and Jersey City before finding this one, and the cut and fade I get from Al is by far the best. Not only is Al a joy to work with, but the rest of the team there is great as well. Dez, Riza, and Cynthia are all very friendly, and make the experience even that much better. I highly recommend coming to see them for your next cut- this is a great barbershop, and you can tell that Al- the owner is truly passionate about his business.

I started getting my hair cut by Al a few months ago when my barber of 10+ years had to take a leave of absence due to medical reasons. For anyone who has had the same barber for that long they understand how difficult it is to find a new barber. A few buddies recommended Al and let me tell you, I have gotten the best haircuts of my life. I am not an easy customer to accommodate. Every time I go in I have a different way I want my hair cut, whether that be from the length of the top to how high I want my skin fade to go. And Al, ever the professional has the conversation with me and gives his honest opinion and I am beyond satisfied with every haircut. He is a true professional in every sense of the word and a master using both the scissors and clippers. This is not to mention the environment of the shop, which is extremely welcoming. On one occasion my pregnant wife tagged along and not only did all of the barbers congratulate her and I but the other patrons did as well. This barbershop has the feel of an old time neighborhood shop in the sense that everyone is super friendly and welcoming. This was my honest review of a shop that I really enjoy being a customer of, an extremely talented barber, and an all around decent guy!

Just a great barber shop in every aspect. I was in JC for 6 weeks and I went specifically for Desiree every other week while I was there. She even squeezed me in 3 hours before my flight. Anytime I'm going to be in JC I'll be making sure I stop in to get my haircut. Truly a remarkable barber shop.

I visited for the 1st time today and the reviews are spot on. Jersey City has many barber shops and this place is the first I've found that can cut my hair (men's medium length) and provide a perfect fade. Prior to my haircut, I watched as customers left and each barber made sure their customers were happy. In addition, the owner sincerely cares about each customers experience. He asked me multiple times throughout the process if I was satisfied. Online booking is a huge bonus as well. This is my new spot.
