I have been driving over an hour each way for almost 12 years to get my hair cut by Dave. Amazing service, amazing people, amazing cuts! Best barber in St. Louis bar none!
I hadn't planned on doing this but after reading the previous review I feel compelled to do so...I was one of the customers part of the "private wedding party". Let me preface by stating that I am a regular customer of Tim and Daves, at least once a month for the last 4 years. I live two blocks from the shop and am not a millionaire. The morning in question saw several customers arrive early and most stayed. Another regular customer and I contacted Dave weeks in advance in order to schedule haircuts and shaves for those in the wedding that wanted them. Nothing more than normalk prices and customary tips were exchanged. Dave did not charge any one of us anything other than advertised prices. This isnt the first time Tim and Dave have accomodated a wedding party, probably not the last. Tim and Dave are always extremely cordial to me and every one around the shop. This is by far, the best barber shop in town. I am sorry the previous poster feels jaded, nut this is the best shop in the city.
I've had a lot of trouble in the past going from one place to another and could not find a reliable place to get my hair cut... until I found Southtown Barbershop! This is a great place to go, with amazing service and wonderful staff. Reservations make it all the more care free to simply walk in at your appointed time and get a great haircut; I'm so glad I was referred to this place.
Poor customer service. Lots of good barbers in STL. I’d choose a different one.
I wanted to write this in response to the obvious cry baby that wrote the review 2 weeks ago about showing up to the shop early on the morning of Saturday June 2nd before the shop was actually open. First off, Dave and the guys were not catering to and taking priority to a group of rich wealthy guys. Most of the guys that were in there are either still serving on active duty or were former soldiers in the U.S. Army, all of which have fought in either Iraq, Afghanistan, or both. They are normal, run of the mill, working guys who are very close friends of mine, some of which I actually served in combat with. Dave opened early to do the shaves and haircuts as a favor to me and the guys in the wedding party because one of them, a very close friend and former helicopter pilot, was marrying my cousin that afternoon. You really need to not judge and label people before you actually know whats going on. Sorry to you that Dave couldn't give you the exact haircut you wanted that day. If you have not already figured out, the shop has become very popular and Saturdays are the busiest day of the week for them. Dave, and or Warren (the former owner) have been cutting my hair since I was in highschool back when they worked at the shop on Hampton. I have never had bad service. Sure, I have shown up and Dave has been busy, and I have either had to come back later or wait around for a while until he has an opening. Call ahead and set up an appointment. Like I said, they have become very popular and are really busy. Dave is in high demand. Instead of calling them sell outs or poseurs you should be happy for them for doing so well, especially with the way our economy has been going down the drain. It's one of the few shops left that you can get a damn good haircut or real deal straight razor shave for a reasonable price. The shop has a great atmosphere, good music, there is always interesting conversation, and the barbers actually care about giving you a quality haircut and making sure it is what you want. They haven't changed or sold out, they are just getting a lot more business and notoriety. Good man, lose their number, don't go there anymore. Go somewhere else and compare it to what you were getting and I can pretty much bet you it won't match up and you won't get the same service you got from Dave, Tim, and the other guys! This is hands down the best barber shop in St. Louis, reasonable, great barbers, and just an overall great experience. Check it out, you will not be disappointed
Dave the owner has an amazingly difficult time keeping barbers. If anything slight constructive or negative is posted in a review he attacks the reviewer and says they are the problem. He goes as far to contact social media sites like Yelp to get negative reviews removed. It’s pretty obvious why he can’t keep barbers and he is so highly paranoid. Much better run barber shops in STL without all the bullying and dysfunction. It’s a hipster elitist atmosphere at this amazingly poorly run business.
I have followed Dave for haircuts through several different shops. With his own place, his attention to detail and customer satisfaction extends to the whole business and not just his individual customers. Happy to still be a customer and love the same haircut I have been getting for years.
I went here for first time and hair was OK I might come back.
Best haircut I have ever gotten. Barbers are awesome as well. Cash only.
I've been looking for a place like this forever. Awesome old school Barber Shop! I could tell he took pride and time in my visit. I had my head shaved, beard trimmed and neck shaved for only $18! Great place and will definitely come back!
Dave the owner has gotta' be one of the nicest guys in town. That being said ANY of the guys at the shop will take wonderful care of you so you don't have to be afraid of who you are going to end up with. No mess ups, no fixing it a little once you get home, PERFECT EVERY TIME (and I've been going here for 8 years). That being said it's only icing on the cake to know that even though these guys are the absolute BEST, that you won't pay MORE. How can you beat this? REST ASSURED. Go let 'em fix you up
Usually 3 - 4 doing a awesome job!!!
I've checked out a majority of the barbershops in St Louis and this is my favorite. All barbers are great and it is hard to have a favorite. The new barber (Meg I think?) is awesome too-one of the best haircuts I've had.
Best barbershop in St. Louis. Make sure you schedule an appointment, walk-ins can take a very long time.
I've been going to this barbershop for the past three years and as long as I live in St Louis I will come here. Dave is awesome and super nice. Marco cut my hair today and I'm a very happy customer. I was a walk-in today and all three of the barbers tried their best to fit me in. Kudos.
Extremely happy with 3 haircuts so far, this is my new barbershop. Has a very classic barbershop feel with great prices as well as friendly and skilled barbers. With a hefty tip this place is still cheaper than utter crap like Sport Clips where I used to go. Things get a little busy on Saturday morning, expect maybe a 20 minute wait if you get there when they open. They also have a giant bucket of toy cars for little boys to play with. Tues-Thurs 9-6 Friday 9-5 Saturday 9-3
Best Barber Shop in the City! Dave is a craftsman in the truest sense and it's obvious he takes pride in his work. I wouldn't even think of going anywhere else! Great Old School retro vibe, and always good banter between the Barbers & Patrons.
Did an awesome job on on my haircut and beard trim and they worked me in as a walk in. If you want to be in and out I strongly advise you to make an appointment. I'll be back forsure!
Bobby is a master of the blend/fade, or whatever you call it, maybe the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is cool and the barbers are always good for some funny conversation.
Very hard to find the level of quality barber cut like the one you will get at this shop. Cool place also.
Got a hair cut. It was quick and looked good. I have neck ticks that were probably real annoying to work with, and the barber didn't mention it. A+
The haircuts are great. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The shop is clean and has a few distractions to pass the time as you wait.
Good old fashioned haircut, with neck shave
Locally owned. Great cuts.
Great atmosphere and music. Staff is courteous and talented. This place is worth a visit
Great place and Dave is awesome
Great barbershop, English speaking American barbers, great personalities. Ill definitely be going back.
Smooth fast service
I have been going to Dave for over a decade and he is by far, one of the best barbers in St. Louis. Appointment only but well worth it!
Best barbershop I've been to in St. Louis.
Dave is a professional fantastic barber...gives you what you want and makes corrections (if able) without any attitude. That's what's great about him and the environment he creates: zero pretension or attitude, laid back, great quality at a fair price. 2-yr. regular and hopefully for many yrs to come.
Great place to get a clean cut for a decent price
I recently moved to St.Louis and had spent some time looking for a new barbershop that was convenient to work and home, luckily I found Southtown Barbershop. This place was awesome I received a great haircut with a lot of attention to detail. The shop is very clean and the barbers there were very polite and professional. I will be continuing to visit this shop.
Totally awesome! I did have to wait a while, but it was well worth the hilarious conversations with the other folks in the shop. All of the barbers were very personable, and I enjoyed talking with Tim? the guy who cut mine. Definitely going back!
Dave is the best barber in St.Louis. Won’t let anyone else touch my hair.
What can i say about this place... Dave is the man and he kills it everytime i see him thank you so much.
Fantastic barbershop, Dave the owner gives a great cut, as well as Marco and Jarrod, who has great fade skills. Recommend making an appointment.
Great old school barber shop with a friendly vibe. All ages from 3 to 103 go to this classic shop for cuts from very well trained barbers. You can even get a beer!
An hour before close, nobody waiting, and one barber playing on his phone. They wouldn't take me because I did not have an appointment. He noncoherently explained they take walkins but I still had to have an appointment. Apparently this is a lazy barbershop that doesn't want new business.
Perfect barbershop. Dave is excellent & takes care of his customers.
Great classic style atmosphere to go along with superior service. Love having a great, local spot that can handle the beard work for me. Overall, just a great place to be.
Horrible experience. By appointment only; wouldn't accept walk ins even though they had a barber open and appointment only wasnt displayed. IMO this is more of a beauty shop then a true men's barber shop.
The best barber I’ve ever had. Dave is an artist; a master.
First time I came here was 9/30/16 for a beard trim, didn't have appointment was able to walk right in, they got me taken care of in no time. These guys are great! Customer service is outstanding highly recommend!
I’ve been getting my hair cut since these guys first opened, and I have watched as their business has grown over the years. The things that stick out to me are the consistency of haircuts (great), and the attitude in which customers are treated (top-notch). Yeah, they get busy, but it is always worth the wait. Best to make an appointment, but they do allow walk-ins, just be realistic, they are busy... Great guys, good vibe, highly recommend.
Great stylist. Awesome environment. Love this place.
Good ole fashioned barber shop with a hip side
The best barber I’ve ever had. Great cuts! Customer service is outstanding. I highly recommend!
You can't go wrong with any barber here. Marco does a great job every time and his attention to detail is impeccable. These guys aren't about frills or fancy crap. They focus solely on giving you the best haircut possible in an old-school barbershop experience.
Dave is an outstanding barber.
Been getting my hair cut by Tim for the last few years. Always a good experience and perfect cut. I won't go anywhere else as long as I live in the area.
If you are a guy and still get your hair cut at a "salon," make the change already. I did about 5 years ago and couldn't be happier. The price is 1/2 what a salon charges and I'm always pleased with the results. All 4 barbers do a great job, but Megan is my go-to gal every 2-3 weeks. She really takes the time to be precise and make sure you are happy with the results. The best day for walk-ins, in my experience, is Tuesday. They are pretty busy other days and it is best to set an appointment. I used to walk-in, but gave up on that a couple years ago. They do leave room in their schedules to do walk-ins, but I prefer to skip the wait. You can usually call between 9-10 and get an appointment that day, or at worst, call one day prior and you'll have plenty of times from which to choose. Make the change...this is the place. PS. They have great, sometimes abstract soundtracks playing in the background all the time.
