I’ve been coming here for years and Ray and the staff are wonderful. I always get a great quick cut and the prices are great. It’s really convenient for anyone working in the Financial District and Battery Park.
They are a nice fixture in the neighborhood. They accommodate my walk-in schedule and at the recent visit they took good care of both my son and myself. Unlike local competition the space is large with ample space for both waiting and moving around, and they keep it very clean.
Great attention to detail and good service.
Great cut and shave at a reasonable price!
Muy preocupados de atender rápido, sin embargo son buenos, falta detalle
It's a good place. The guys do a nice job and are chatty if you want or will leave you alone. I'm not a talker with my barber so I tend to just sit and them do their thing. They picked up on that and left me alone. I appreciate it.
Quality cut.. but who said it was classic prices? I'm dinging it a star because a men's basic cut was $24.00. No wash, no straight edge on the neck or sideburns. Again it was a good cut. I just had heartburn with the price.
I know Ray and his wife Lilly for twenty-five years. They had a small shop on chambers street. They struggled through 9/11 and economic adversity. But they are the greatest and kindness individuals in lower Manhattan. Ray's and his staff give great haircuts and the prices are reasonable for lower Manhattan. They care about there customers I highly recommend them for your next haircut, shave or shape up. GD. Bless you, Raymond, Lilly, and staff.
This is my go-to place for haircut. $27 for a cut which in the City is not that bad based on the skills of each staff member. I would recommend it for anyone who gets to the city. For men only though as I never seen a single girl came to here after half a dozen times.
Great barber shop! The most fanciest in the lower Manhattan. Ask for Laura. She is simply the Best!
I had a hot shave given by Mark, and it was amazing. My beard covers my full face and is very thick. I generally use a double edge razor with Feather blades for my shave, followed by using TendSkin. What I am trying to get at is I take shaving very seriously. That is why I can say Mark knew exactly what he was doing. This was his process: 1. Some sort of cream was rubbed into my face for 5 minutes. It was done roughly and you could tell the goal was to raise the hairs. 2. While leaving the cream on my face, they then rubbed in warm shaving cream on top. 3. Then they laid a hot towel on top of both the creams. The towel sat for about a minute. 4. The hot towel was removed and the creams were wiped off. 5. A new layer of hot shaving cream was applied. 6. A straight blade razor was then used to remove a bulk of the hair 7. Then he laid on more shaving cream and used an electric to clean up any rough spots. He would ran his hand over my face to find these spots and then attack them with the electric. 8. Then he did a final round of touch up with the straight razor again. 9. The final round is when he laid down some kind of liquid on my face (I think TendSkin from the smell) and used a cold towel to cool off my face. I want to point out that I have seen other top barbers use the electric razor in step 7. My skin could not handle another full round with the blade, it would break out. The electric allows him to also apply more pressure against stubborn hairs. You NEVER apply pressure with a straight razor. I also want to point out that his technique with the straight razor was perfect. He never applied a lot of pressure, his strokes were short, and he pulled the skin tight.
Great service. Fast response.
Great haircut,Great Jokes, definite go to spot for a haircut
Salon quality service and store, barber shop prices. Been coming here for 15 years and never a bad cut.
Read reviews here and went for an undercut from Alex, with an appointment. Showed him a picture of the haircut I wanted. He was not listening to what I said. Two people arrived without any appointment. To accommodate them, he rushed my haircut. I asked him to leave the hair at the top long but he cut them off. The barbers here have no art. They are just playing around with the clippers and shortening people's hair. For the beard style I showed him a picture. He was not listening, just rushed the trim to accommodate the two people. If you a barber with attention to detail, stay away from this place. NOT RECOMMENDED !!!!
Nice shop and not a very long wait
I can tell that Ray established a culture that focuses on quality and attention to detail. My favorite barbers are Dina, Mark and Vasa, they make me look like a Hollywood celeberty every time!
I have been going here for years and they’re great! They’re friendly, fast, and I always leave looking and feeling my best. The shop is clean and they really take care of their clientele. -Liam
Reliable local haircut
Fast. Friendly. Clean. Mark is the man.
Professional barbers period. Scheduled or walk in they'll accommodate you.
Solid, straightforward, and large barbershop.
Best barber in town!
Best barber shop in Tribeca!!!! Friendly staff, fantastic hair cut, highly recommend this place!!!
Just tried this shop out and very happy with my hair cut, very good service and friendly atmosphere, and prices also very reasonable. Highly recommend to stop by.
Great barber shop
Best barber there is Johny. He does a great job - got a fade and not only was it done nicely, it was fast! He takes care of you, go check him out!
Extremely disappointing experience after waiting months for a cut and shave. Showed the barber a photo of myself with the particular haircut I was after (combover/part/high fade). First try didn't come close, tried to 'fix' it after the shave when I pointed out the photo again, but no care was taken just a hurried attempt. Now for the shave (cut throat) I've had a much smoother feel after using my girlfriends cheap leg razor. Was left with uneven, rough spots again no care was taken. When spending $50 on a cut and shave I expected ALOT more care, detail, professional experience. I would like to be contacted regarding this message. Went in Monday 8th October
Hands down, Johnny is the best barber I’ve had. Knows how to give a clean cut / fade. Highly recommend him!
Always a pleasure here, great cuts and good hours.
FRIDAY HOURS MAY VARY!! Been going here since I was just a young 'un. I am 45 now. Great place for a haircut. Go elsewhere if you are one of those offended people. He has never been late for work and never left before he said he would. It is a family owned business. Read the signs people. Another thing, yes he may put his closed sign out before 12 if he already has alot of customers.
Most likely my fault for allowing one of the older guys to cut my hair. Basically wasted $30 on a cut I could have done better myself. Going to have to get a second cut to fix this one.
excellent cut , fast service and great prices a classic !!!
Great place!! I don't come anywhere else for my haircurts.
I've been living in FiDi for 10 years and have been to almost every men's barber shop in the area. I started going to Rays about a year ago, and have never looked back. They are professional,, customer focused, and reasonably priced. I've had my hair cut by various barbers, and while all good, Diana is by far the best. She takes her time and is very detail oriented. My hair style is not traditional, but she is able to execute perfectly. lWould highly recommend her to anyone looking for the perfect cut!
My son loves going to see Mr. Ray.
Ray's is amazing. They give a haircut 100% of the time.
Stopped by twice today. The first time, they were closed for lunch. The second time, I was told I wouldn't be able to get a cut because they had an appointment. I won't be back... Ever!
Highly overpriced for the quality. The guy I had did not take his time and made mistakes. No plans on returning here.
The woman who cut my hair was rude and the haircut was poor. Will not be returning.
Phenomenal experience from the moment you walk in the front door. Sean pays close attention to customer wishes and is super focused on the details. Overall great barbershop with reasonable prices!
I love this shop. It has that old time experience and atmosphere I use to get as a kid when my grandfather and I would go get a haircut. My first time to vis was a few weeks ago (time to go back) the wait was a little long, but well worth the experience. Great price for an awesome haircut. I have made this my new barbershop.
Economical and Great
Old school feel and prices
Great service, very nice people, affordable prices
Mr Ray is nice but really needs help during the morning because wait times are long enough that I watched people walk in and walk right out. Good haircut though.
Shawn is a wonder kid
I’ve been going to Ray for the last 10 years, and despite having to walk a extra 8 blocks, it is worth it. My Haircuts last an extra week and a half, and they always look great from the day I walk out until the day I walked back in. His wife is great, and the place is nice and clean and high energy. I love talking about business with him every month. It’s always fast (tons of barbers and chairs) and it’s a good price for the quality ($28). I won’t go anywhere else.
Rushed out, and pricey. The unfriendly guy who cut my hair couldn’t even bother to put down his phone so I could pay him.
Very disappointed. I wanted a clean scissor cut and confirmed with female barber that she could do it. We tried several times to make it look nice and finally I ended having to have her use the clippers to make it presentable. I will need someone else to clean it up! She barely spoke English and just kept saying "yes sir" over and over again to each of my questions. I will never go here again and from reading the other reviews it seems many have had a similar experience.
I’ve never been to a better barber shop. Ray’s barbers are patient, good listeners, and are incredibly friendly. I don’t think I’ll ever stop coming here.
Good barbershop!
Reasonable price, very fast and good service.
The pictures I have just provided is what my finished product looks like. This is completely unacceptable. On 01/23/2019 I walked into the barbershop at 9:30am. My barber was overall not a pleasant person at all. I asked to have the back of my head cleaned up and to have my beard trimmed down to a 1, and have my neck cleaned up as well. After being in the chair for exactly 8 minutes I was charged 24.00$ for this horrible work. THEN as I was inspecting the work done in the mirror, I could hear my “stylist” talking about me with a serious attitude in another language, followed by another employee who was sitting on the couch asking me if “everything was alright” I can promise you that I’ll never go back to this place as it is completely overpriced and NOT WORTH IT!!!! As a LOCAL GUIDE I ADVISE EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF TO STAY AWAY!!! Edit: I am trying to upload more photos of my bad haircut, but they’re only letting me upload one. Message me privately if you would like to see the rest of the pictures.
Best barber shop in lower Manhattan/Tribeca. Every barber is absolutely amazing especially Johnny. Very friendly/personable and always remembers how you like your cut! Highly recommend!
Ray is the best! Been going to him for years!! Great Service, Great Pricing!
This place is great. The person who did my hair made me feel real comfortable and gave me exactly what I wanted. I am definitely coming back here to get my hair cut again. Update 4/20/2016 Went there again and one of the guy there was rude and didn't understand what I was telling him. Didn't give me what I wanted. I think in line with the other reviewers it's the "Skinny Russian guy" that does a horrible job.
I've moved a few times in the past two years, and as anyone knows, it's not the most convenient thing to stay with the same barber over that time. Since I've been working in the city, I wanted to get my hair cut during my lunch hour and tried out Ray's Barber Shop this past summer. The first time I went there, I got my hair cut by a woman who no longer works there. She did a very good job but wasn't there on my third trip, so I wound up having Ray (the owner) cut my hair. Ray is an excellent, no-nonsense barber who listens to what I want and executes it with perfection. It's always risky and difficult to try out new barbers, so with that in mind, Ray is worth his weight in gold! He is also very helpful and makes great suggestions regarding finishing the style. I get results that I am pleased with at a very reasonable price, and that's all that I ask for out of a barber. Thanks Ray!
went here for a quick, clean cut and this place does not disappoint. had bad hair because of a failed haircut before and my guy at Ray's fixed it expertly for me. also very reasonably priced for the area. highly recommended
Excellent hair cuts at a fair price
Great barbers. They have been here forever. Fast good and friendly.
Best barber on the Coast.
Sat in the truck while husband got hair cut. He likes the place
Very clean and professional I get a very tight and low skin fade Ray has nailed it again and again. All the other stylists are up to par also. Rays shop goes that extra step for its clients Great experience quick and convienent I'll go no where else you shouldn't either
Amazing service and experience! Johnny is the best barber I’ve ever been to, hands down. Super affordable, in and out in less than 30 minutes and always looks great. If you’re looking for a go-to spot to get a haircut, look no further!
Used togo their up to six years ago
Tried them once when I needed a haircut while at work. Now I don't go anywhere else. Always a great haircut.
Best cut in fidi. Ask for Johnny
Ray's is the kind of place you dream about finding as a new yorker. Great barbers, friendly staff, bumping soundtrack, a mix of trendy and old school people. I only let one guy touch my hair, and he's like my priest. He knows all, and tells nothing. Ray's is a great place for a quick trim, or a complete style overhaul. I went from my basic cut to a full undercut without even a question, and with absolute trust. I 100% recommend this place.
Excellent service
Great shop. Ask for Johny if you're looking for a clean fade.
I cannot believe I paid $24 for the haircut I got. I clearly asked the barber if they can cut my hair the way it is shown in the Google image I showed. Of course they said yes, and the end result was and is regret. Overpriced and not good. 4.3 ratings? Sure I totally believe it. NOT.
Only spot downtown to get a good haircut I personally go to Ray Good hair cuts at Fair prices
Excellent barber, good with children and many years experience in cutting hair. It shows!
Great service! Very good prices! See Dan for the perfect fade! Highly recommended.
Had my hair cut by leo. Not too happy with the job he did. Will probably go somewhere else to get it fixed
The best barber shop friendly service is good
This barber shop has been here for longer than I’ve been alive. A family and VETERAN owned buisness. Truly wonderful hardworking admirable men that work here. They don’t make barbers like Mr. Ray and Mr. Jason anymore. This barbershop is a very traditional old school barber shop. It’s a valued treasure of Long Beach Mississippi. Many clients have lived their lives coming and going here, cutting their fathers hair, all the way to their sons and grandsons. Has been here for a generation and is a paramount landmark here in this sleepy town. If you’re a local, or just passing through, these gentlemen will cut your hair to perfection with ease. Both have been cutting hair to support their families for over a decade. They’re extremely hospitable, respectful, knowledgeable men. We as locals truly value and respect this barber shop. Thank you for the years of service.
love this place. no wait. great cuts everytime, no matter who does the cutting.
Ray’s rocks! If they had 5 stars and a Powerball, that’s the rating I’d give. As previously reported, a truly sharp, clean flat top is difficult to do. Ray does it, flawlessly, every time. Make sure to ask for Ray; if they’re not busy with other clients, all the other barbers come watch him. A little haircut history: Ray’s stands literally in the shadow of the Freedom Tower. After 9/11, many of the cops and firefighters around here started getting flat tops. The taper you see here on the sides is how they liked it, so it’s known as the Irish Style. Many Latino guys like the sides to go straight up, known as the Spanish Style. Pay no attention to the model in these pictures, just the haircut. This is how a flattop should look. It bears repetition: Ray’s Rocks!
I've been coming to Ray's now for the past 3 or 4 months, and I must say the service and quality haircuts is excellent! Usually, I notice with other barbershops that the attention to detail tends to falter after the third or fourth visit, but not at Ray's. Every barber in the shop is skilled, and you will get the haircut you want no matter who is working on your hair. They advertise "no wait," and they mean it. Even on a Friday at 5pm, I have never had to wait. There is always someone ready to welcome you at the door. Needless to say, I will be returning for months to come, and highly recommend to anyone looking for a great haircut!
Great Cuts, fair price, always fast!
Consistently good haircuts. I have no idea what I want when I walk in but I walk out happy
Fast, good value, very friendly people. Excellent service overall!
Ask for Shon.. best haircut I've ever had! Come here religiously, as does my room mate
Ray is absolutely the best barber on the coast. Always a great haircut at a "traditional" Barber Shop. First come, First served...Been cutting my hair over 25 years-Thank You Ray!
They always do a good job! I'm not too picky and can't really give too much direction when looking for a haircut, so I have them do whatever they think looks best, and it always comes out well!
Excellent
Probably not the cheapest barber shop around, but the price is acceptable, the location is very convenient for me, and they get the job done. There usually is no wait when I walk past after work (6-ish), and they open early (8 am) for those who want to get a cut before heading to work.
Got a good haircut fast - my wife loved it!
Best fades in TriBeCa by Johnny. Highly recommend to anyone in need of the perfect cut.
Johnny’s great!
Been coming here since I was a little boy, great haircut, friendly staff, would recommend to everyone!
Old time barber shop. Good company and good haircut. Very reasonable price
Awesome barber. Being going to Ray for 15 years!
Ray is an exceptional barber! I have been going to him for 5 years and he is very excellent. I found ray on yelp when I search for a barber who could cut black and African American hair in Financial District correctly. Ray did not disappoint! Ray is a pleasure to work with!
My go to barbershop by work. I've had 2 different barbers there, Lilia and Mark. One was good and other was great. I'm not gonna say who for many reasons (don't want my barber to be too busy :). I have Asian man hair, and those like me know it's tough to find a good barber to cut our hair. Give them a try if you are looking for a new spot. Protip: They are walk in, but I call in advance to make sure my barber is free. Also they give discounts for cash.
Diana is absolutely amazing! She was quick and gave me the haircut I needed. I highly recommend coming here.
Great.
Ray is the man! For the price he gives the best haircut of any place left in my neighborhood by far! don't know what id do w/o this place!
My husband Max visited here many times over the years before he passed in May. He enjoyed chatting with I believe Ray and his son. Y'all kept him clean cut. Thank you.
Good job with 3 year old grandson.
Decent haircut
Skilled Barbers and hospitable service.
My son is autistic and ADHD, Mrs. Kathi did a great job on my son hair cut.
Great experience
Have been going to Ray’s for almost 4 years. Great results and friendly staff. Specifically, I would highly recommend Alex.
Shop Center
Two times a week.
It's so hard to find a good, consistent, and reasonably priced barber. This place has all 3 in spades. Convenient hours and proximity make it a popular choice for the locals in the financial district.
Wow! You want a goo flattop? Go to Ray. He’s amazing! Best flattop ever!
I was looking for a barber that I can walk to from home. I walked into Ray's and asked that the man behind the name give me my first cut. I have a very simple and short haircut, but in the wrong hands, disaster can happen. Ray did a fantastic job, and I've been going there steadily for over a year. His shop is in a large, comfortable, relaxing space, which is rare for a Manhattan barber shop. He's been in the neighborhood for many years and this is a testimony to the quality of his work, and that of his other barbers. Ray is also a good dude to visit and chat with while he cuts your hair. I highly recommend his shop!
Been going here since it opened. High quality, reasonably priced (for the neighborhood, rent must be very high) haircuts.
Mr. Ray cuts mine and my father's hair he is a good Barber. Thank you
The place and everything else looks good, but the barber was horrible, the shop is ran by quantity over quality mentality. My barber and the barber on the side were fighting over the tips and quantity of the customers ones had. My barber ended up doing a horrible haircut and when I asked him to fix it he's like "I don't know, I can't do anything else". I'm a barber myself and I know how a good haircut looks like, what he did to my hair is nothing professional.
Wonderful place to get a haircut, the place is clean, staffs are friendly and professional.
Went to Ray's on a whim as it is really close to my work and I needed a haircut the same day. Went in for a fade (if you need a fade, ask for Johnny) and Johnny absolutely killed it! My hair is very thick and curly and he handled it with no problem at all. Definitely will be coming back!
Great place and a great cut! Thanks Mark
I've been getting my haircut by Ray for years. Great barber and great shop! Never a long wait and they do a great job.
My goto barbershop. Many stylists working, easy to walk-in.
I work in the area and have been getting my haircut at Ray's for about 2 months now and I will continue coming back! I got my haircut by Diana the first time and it was a perfect match! She is personable, nice and a true professional! Highly recommend!

The best beauty salon ever, there is very attentive attitude to each client. People which work in this place are masters of their job. They always cut your hair on a high level. I advise you to cut your hair exactly here. You will not be dissapointed, be sure!
Friendly service, great price, and a great atmosphere!
I like this place, going there for hair cut for 2 years already. Never disappointed.
Best barbershop in TriBeCa/Fidi -hands down!
Awesome
Horrible experience. So I walk in with super simple order. Just shape up my hairline and facial hair, and trim the sides. Skinny russian guy pulls out his scissors and starts snipping away. Umm okay? In addition he does a HORRIBLE job shaping up my beard. I could have done a far better job with a rusty steak knife. So at the end I ask him to style the top with gel. He then has the nerve to tell me to hold out my hand, and squirts some cheap gel in my hand. Really dude? Biggest waste of $20+ in my life. You won't catch me in this place again.
First time I went in for a straight razor shave they did a great job with minimal irritation, second time I left with bleeding from 4/5 spots. Told both guys that the hair was thick and the skin was sensitive. Not sure if I’ll be going back.
I travel a lot and was overdue for a cut. I walked into Ray's around 615pm on a Monday. It was busy but I only waited a couple minutes. The barber's technique had me worried at first. Half way through I told him "you can cut it a little shorter". He assured me he would, but knew how short to cut it w/o being too short. At the end I was very pleased with the cut. $20 + Tip, not bad. I will go back if I need a cut.
These guys are great! Love Ray's always quick and cheap! This is best barbershop downtown. I love the lights and music. And they have an awesome sign outside.
First time at this location. Got a buzz cut (crew cut) and Leo charged me $24 He insisted it's not a crew cut ($18) then tried to "help" me save $5 by giving them a positive Yelp review. He even went on to tell me what to exactly say in the review; unprofessional so believable. Terrible first impression after the whole experience, would never go back, and Leo clearly doesn't care about the customer as Ray's will continue to do business as usual in their prime location. Oh well.
Ray's is a great local barber shop. Everyone that works there is friendly and experienced. The walk-in line is short and moves quickly. The barber Mark is really nice and receptive to feedback.
Two of the best haircuts I've had since moving here nearly two years ago were by Ray a couple weeks ago, and his son a couple months ago. Best to go in the afternoons because there are often times significant wait times in the mornings. Worth the wait though. Heads-up; they don't cut women's hair or African American's hair ONLY because they don't know how, not for any other agenda. Ray has been trying to learn but still isn't confident you'll be pleased with the result. Very good people.
Really nice barbershop, all barbers are great! Laid back, friendly, courteous. Amazing fades, hot towel shaves with facial massage
Best haircut I've had for the price. Never looked for another barber after I came here.
Good hair cut every time I visit. The staff is understanding if you want to talk or don't. Very cool atmosphere too, and it's such a pleasure to visit - especially on the weekend.
The best barber shop in the city. I've been a customer for over 15 years.
I'm a regular here and have been going for a year. Diana has cut my hair every time with precision. I call in advance so I can plan and don't have to wait.
Very quick service, reasonable prices. Location is very good and in a central location.
Best fade in the area, ask for Johnny
I visit Leo and he is one of the best in the business
Best haircut in TriBeCa/battery park city - I have gotten my hair cut by multiple barbers here and all have done a fantastic job.
Mr. Ray is the best barber on the coast! He cuts my son's hair all the time and has for years now. This is the ONLY place I will take him to get a cut. He is not only a wonderful barber but a wonderful person as well. We love Mr. Ray!
Great baby barber
Affordable cut
Terrific place! Ask for Mark, great cut and shave!
