I sent my son in there for a haircut. It was during back-to-school season. It was also his birthday so we figured we try something different. What a mistake! Katie is the one to thank for ruining his day and (of course) his birthday. Katie was rude while he was in the chair. She talked in a hostile tone of voice. She cut his hair too short and uneven, and it looked bad. It gets worse. Katie farted while she was cutting. The smell lingered for a while, and it really stank. I can't believe I paid for this mess. I left 3 messages for the manager to call me back, but she never has. This tells me she doesn't care. This is not a delightful visit that would make me come back.

Took me 35 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to be seated despite it being fairly empty. My fade was mediocre at best. I'd only advise coming here if you need a haircut on days that other places are closed.

I've been to Floyd's three times to get my hair cut and have always had a good experience. The first time Justin cut my hair, the second time Belle, and Courtni the last time. I often go at least a month too long without a cut because I don't like the uncertainty and fear of putting my hair at the mercy of another person. I don't think I can use that excuse anymore. Courtni was very kind and sympathetic to my aversion to fragrances, gave a great cut, and displayed a high level of conversational agility.

This was my second time going to a Floyd's 99, it will be my last time. Called ahead, wasn't much of a wait after I arrived. Rob D. was my stylist. He started off with a shampoo- which was nice, but I would've preferred it after my haircut to get all of the stray hairs out. He asked what I wanted done, I said just a trim. I was explicit in what I wanted done, but Rob had other ideas. I said a medium fade, I got a high fade. I asked for half an inch off the top, he cut over an inch and then some. I asked for him to blend the sides, but he had "his own way of cutting hair" so he felt it was unnecessary. I told him, "this is too short," to which he replied, "it's hair, it'll grow back." I basically got a generic, trendy haircut. And a bad one at that: after getting home I noticed there were long strands that he missed in the back, and without blending the sides with the top it looked chunky. But hey, they didn't charge me for the shampoo, so have another star.

They said an hour wait, which turned into an hour forty minutes. Then they put me with a hairdresser. The haircut was good. They forgot that I had requested a shave also. Then I had to wait for the shave. The blade was dull for the shave and cut my neck a few times. The hot towel and the rest of the service was good, however, I would not return here.

Quite possibly the worst haircut I have ever received. My "barber" was incredibly incompetent and had no idea how to cut a very simple fade. Terrible. So much so that I have decided to shave it all off and start over. Ridiculous, and a ridiculous price. Go to Urban Design, or any Barber Shop on East Lake Street. It will be ten times better and at a better price. Steer clear of this trendy shopshop, not worth the money.

Great barbershop. Receptionist(s) are nice and professional. They accept same day appointments, which is convenient if you need to squeeze in a haircut. Parking is a little difficult, as it is in uptown and most streets are metered paid parking. Anna H is my stylist, she's dope and makes sure the finish is what you wanted. Highly recommend her and Floyds!

So let me start by saying my mom was the only one I would let cut my hair for my 29 years on this Earth. My ma has been doing hair for 30+ years however we no longer live in the same state so I reasonably had to outsource. Caitlin is the first person I trusted to cut my hair .... I kind of had a high bar to reach. She definitely exceeded my expectation. The reason I tried this place is because my wife gets her hair done here. We have two completely different hair styles and type. I actually know a few people that get their hair done here and I have never seen a bad style come out of the place. I like to read reviews that other people have posted and I had to laugh at the great clips guy haha. Anyways. My line is straight my shave is clean and my top is textured. I grew up in a hair salon. I know what to expect the prices are amazing for what you get. I will gladly set an appointment to get what I want.... I find humor in people complaining about wait times then being pissed when they feel rushed. Happy to wait for a good outcome happy to set an appointment so I can express what I want. The staff is friendly and they do a great job. This is hands down the only place I will get my hair cut while I live in this state. Highly recommend.

She fixed my hair when a different stylist accidentally messed up my hair. I have been going to her ever since. She very knowledgeable and talented when it comes to hair. She does AMAZING work! NOT kid-friendly Brought my 9-year-old son in last week. They accused him of having lice (always fun for a parent to hear.) I assumed they knew what the were talking about, so the next day I took my entire family in to the lice lady in Edina. Not a single lice/nit was found. Not one. Dry skin/delayed cradle cap was the prognosis. A week later, I went back with my son. Before they would even seat him (15 minutes late, even with a reservation) the stylist insisted on having a manager inspect his head. Once again, they came to the conclusion that his dandruff was lice. This was a week later, mind you. If it was lice, we’d damn well know about it by now. So they refused to cut his hair again. The next day I took him to Kid’s Hair Inc. cut his hair, which they did, no problem, no issue, no lice. And still, not a sign of lice, or anything. I can honestly say, I can’t remember The last time I felt so publicly insulted and embarrassed not just for me, but for my 9-year-old boy, who should’ve never had to go through that. The problem had absolutely nothing to do with my son, and everything to do with poorly-trained, paranoid staff who would clearly be much happier if you left your kids at home.

I won't be going anywhere else for haircuts anytime soon. This place has a truly unique atmosphere and a friendly staff. Free straight-razor neck shave and quick shoulder massage following the cut is a plus. Four stars for the long (understandable, but often much longer than they say it will be) wait times. I'll be scheduling from now on.

Caitlin B. is awesome. I wear my hair in what's considered a men's style, and I've had to argue with stylists at more traditional salons because they didn't want to cut my hair short enough. At Floyd's I didn't get the judgmental, "Are you SURE you want it that short?" Caitlin knew exactly what I wanted and she got it right the first time, and every time since. And when I ask her opinion on a hair style, she actually gives me an opinion, not the typical noncommittal "Oh I don't know, it's really up to you..." And instead of making awkward small talk with a stylist who has nothing in common with me, I get to talk about things I'm actually interested in, like video games and comic books. I like that Floyd's actually has some personality, unlike the cookie-cutter salons that cater to Minnesota soccer moms. It's such a relief to have found a salon I actually enjoy going to. Thanks, Caitlin! I always make an appointment. Honestly, I recommend making an appointment at ANY salon, rather than a random walk-in. Develop a relationship with a regular stylist -- you'll get much better results.

I got my first haircut here a couple years ago. I used to just buzz my own for a while but as I started to grow it out I got more particular about how my hair was cut. After failing to get in at a couple non-chain shops I decided to give Floyd's a try. I was so pleased with the results (and the compliments I received) that I haven't bothered to look for another place to go. I even moved away from the area but still make the trek to get my hair cut here. Ask for Vince and you won't be disappointed.

I got a taper fade and the stylist left me with a bald spot on my upper left side. Also needs more practice with using a razor. Also you need to tell customers if the person that's cutting hair is a stylist or a barber cause there's a big difference or ask them if they will prefer a stylist or barber.

Tamiya! She was the most amazing stylist and so aptly rose to the occasion. We came in, three haircuts needed, husband and twin two-year-olds. Tamiya cut husband’s hair then twins, one at a time. Husband looks hot. Kids look like little men - so cute! - and she was so patient when they got a little squirmy here and there. For what could have been a disaster we were met with patience and flexibility. It made this milestone a happy and peaceful one! Thank you Tamiya and Floyd’s 99!

Floyd’s has an edgy environment designed around borrowed cultural interest. Or in other words, they’re a bunch of posers. And honestly that would be fine, I can respect that. It’s not make or break. What really irked me about my two experiences there is that the barbers aren’t even real barbers. There’s one person qualified there to cut hair which they refer to as their “stylist” and he’s the only one who seems like he has ever touched a pair of scissors. The rest of the “barbers” remind me of my college roommate with a pair of clippers, and they’re about as good as he was and understanding what you want and how to make it happen. My first experience I chalked up to a bad day for Floyd’s, I asked the barber for a very basic cut: inch off the top, fade the sides. He must not have cared about what I wanted or was completely unqualified to do his job because he pretty much shaved my head and left just enough on top to comb. I could tell while he was cutting that he was chopping too much off and when I said something he just said “don’t worry I know what you want I got you.” But again, I chalked this up to a bad barber who might’ve been new and the next time I wanted a cut (a few months later) I showed up and got a different barber and I guess they have some training manual when they start that says “forget what people tell you and give them this haircut” because I got the same damn haircut despite asking for an undercut this time. I told them to not even touch the top or my bangs and that was probably the first thing they went for. When I repeated myself, they said they weren’t cutting it they were just “evening it out.” Which I guess is true because they evened it out all the way down to about an inch and pretty much down to the skin on the sides. They barbers don’t know what they’re doing, it’s great if you want one type of haircut and want people who will disregard what YOU want your own hair to look like.

I got my hair cut here a few days ago by Colleen. My hair is noticeably shorter on one side.. I don't know why it is so uneven? The photo shown is my natural parting, and this was how it was positioned- when cut. Anyway, I called the shop on 02-16-2019 and they apologized for the inconvenience and were very understanding. They offered to fix it and that my next cut would be complimentary. Besides the length being uneven, the rest looked quite nice.

Great spot for getting your hair cut & styled. These people know what they're doing. Top notch cuts, modern styles, and a friendly staff. The atmosphere is unique and fun. Music is usually pretty on point as well - no Top 40s or bland mall music. Sarah is my preferred stylist - she's friendly, fun to talk with, and gets my hair perfect every time. I definitely recommend this spot for your next cut. The prices are very fair and there is a good variety of services to choose from whether it be shampoos, cuts, or beard trims, they've got it covered.

Hit or miss depending on which barber/stylist you have. And wait times can be a little crazy at times...But like that you can now book reservations a week in advance, that wasnt always the case. I have had the worst cut and the best cut at this place. And Ive lived in different metropolitan cities and frequented many barber shops.. Id put this location at the middle of my top ten.

Been going here for over a year, and a different Floyd's location before that. In general they give the right haircut in the quality/cost ratio I'm looking for. The stylists at this location have always been very friendly and professional. That being said, I will never be back to this location again. The two girls who I have seen run the front desk are entirely incompetent. They either cannot estimate the wait time or simply lie to you in some attempt to appease you. Call ahead? Doesn't matter. I called ahead and it was a two hour wait. fine, no problem. Arrived two hours later and they said it would be 15 more minutes. Okay, that's cool. I then sat for another hour waiting before finally walking out. If this was an isolated incident, it would be one thing but this has been the routine the last 3 times I have been in, no matter what time of week. Shame on me I guess at this point. Save your time, go elsewhere.

Walk in, and the place has only a couple customers. One person waiting, they tell me an hour and a half wait for a walk in. Tell them I’ll stop back in a couple hours, show up and hour and a half before close and again there is almost no customers in the shop. Told, too bad we are full for the night. Telling me you can’t fit someone in all night when there is literally more people working then there are customers? What a joke. Been here plenty of times but very likely I won’t be back after that.

Instead of telling me she wasn't comfortable doing the design she attempted to shave it and it wasn't anything like the pictures or what I had asked for. I'm sure they do great basic cuts for men and other hair styles but from my experience they aren't able to do complex designs.

Great barbershop. Its expensive but all the hair stylist know what they are doing. Im the type of guy who doesn't care what the barber does as long as it looks good. My stylist said "ok lets have fun" and did an awesome job. Dont skimp on your hairdo, a $5 haircut looks like a $5 haircut.... a $50 haircut looks like a $50 haircut.... go in a try a few stylist till you find the right one... then schedule your appointments with them. The walk in wait can be long.... call and make an appointment for sure. Again... dont skimp on your hair, people gotta look at it and it shows you actually care somewhat about your appearance. Highly recommend if your new to town or had a bad haircut somewhere else... finding a good barbershop can be hard, this is a good start.

Only reason this has 1 star is because there is no 0. Showed up 10 mins early to a scheduled appt. and waited 50 mins before they took me back. In the time that I was waiting there was 9 walk in’s that came in got theirs cut and left. The stylist seemed rushed and rushed through the cut (not a great cut). Came here because I heard that they were reasonable and good cuts, after this experience I will look else where and tell anyone who thinks about this place that is is a no go. -update, talked to the manager today and explained everything that I went through, her response. I Wana “Make things right” (1 free hair cut...) That’s not really making it right, I don’t really care about the free cut. Train your employees and manage them properly. I’ll let all of you reading this make the decision if it’s worth it to get to Floyd’s barbershop.

They started a walk in ‘express lane’ that gets you out in 15-20 minutes. It seems like they hire temps for this. I haven’t had this bad of a haircut since I got bowls put on my head and just cut straight across. I asked for just a trim on the sides and the barber cut more off the top and left a Superman cape on the back of the head hanging over then just went straight across from the sides to the front. Even the barber next to us started laughing at my cut. Do not do WALK INS you will get a speedy half experienced barber.

If I call, and you say 3 pm, don't tell me 3:30. I don't care about the wait, you guys have good reviews. When you over compensate your time to look like a hero, and I show up on time, to be told it will be 30 minutes later... You suck. I'll update with the haircut when it's dune l done, might be worth it. But just give me a realistic tune l time. Every business that runs itself in an effective matter knows this. Tldr Don't trust their wait time, very sloppy. I will post my haircut update without this prejudice.

Decided to check it out because I was desperately in need of a hair cut and beard trim before a corporate meeting this week. Nicolle S made sure everything was absolutely perfect and to my liking, provided tips on hair care until my next visit, and even took care of my unsightly unibrow so I'm 100% on my game for this meeting! And since it was my first time here I was pampered a little extra with a free shampoo/scalp massage while relaxing with a hot towel on my face. After everything was said and done she finished it off with beard oil. 100% worth every penny and I think I just found my go-to stylist in the metro. Loved it!

The guy did my hair cut did a terrible job. He turned me away from the mirror so I couldn't see the progress. At the end I told him my concerns and how I wanted him to correct then he said "I did what you told me!" in such a tone (rude) that it was my mistake. I had to make corrections at home myself. And honestly I made it look better by myself. Never be back again. Just because of that guy's attitude.

They have a policy that if you are 10 minutes late your appointment is cancelled. I definitely understand the need to ensure promptness for both barbers and clients but it would be great if they let you know that. I set up an appointment, got out of work early, fought rush hour traffic and struggled to find parking (which I had to pay for) all to be turned away entirely. It’s not their fault I was late and their policy is understandable but they need to let people know that’s their policy so they don’t waste their time and money like I did.

I've done walk ins a few times here and generally I'm pretty happy with the results! Usually friendly staff and they try to get you in asap but it's a pretty busy shop so call ahead if you can.

I had mix feelings about going to this place for a cut because of the pro and con reviews. I was interested in finding a new place to get a hair cut and figured that I give them a shot. I stopped by after work and got there during around 6:15.pm. The front desk woman looked at me confused and didn’t even greet me until another staff did. I mentioned that I’m here for a cut and the guy mentioned that I would be 1.5 hour wait. He then took my name and phone number and told me to come back around 7:45-8pm so I set the appointment and left. I later arrived back at my at my appointment and he greet me but mentioned that two people walked in and that they were ahead of me. He told me to come back at 8:30 and I’ll get a cut in before they closed. I’m not trying to sit here towards your closing time for a quick cut that will be rushed. I asked why there was a wait and he made an lame excuse that a family came in late and pushed back all the appointments. I decided to leave and definitely not going back. I didn’t even get a cut yet and I will definitely not recommend this place. Not worth the time, hearing their lies, and dealing with horrible customer service.

This was the worst haircut that I believe that I have ever received. All that was requested was for the "barber" to shave the sides and clean up the length of my Mohawk and he managed to butcher it. The length in the back went from about 3 1/2" to 3/4" with a huge step in it. The transition line between the top and sides looked it was done by Helen Keller. I can get it closer by myself. He positioned the chair so that you can't see what he is doing until it is too late. Two of the other stylists that I was watching while I waited did fantastic jobs on the people that they were cutting, so I'm not blaming the shop. However, I will not be returning in the future.

I had been looking for a long time for a hair place which was less expensive then a salon but could provide trendier cuts then a great clips (for the money great clips is excellent). The first thing I asked for was a “peaky blinders” haircut and my stylist knew exactly what I wanted and wanted to know which character’s hair I was most going for (Cherry G. is now my regular stylist and she is great!). Love it here and it is a great balance of style at a good price.

Great place. Been coming here for over a year. All the stylists know what they're doing. Great vibe inside. Good music and always have sports on too. The hot towel, straight edge on the back of your neck and shoulder massage put this place over the top. They periodically have 2 for 1 sales on the styling 'pucks'. Highly recommend.

Just got back from my haircut at Floyd’s, they lady who cut my hair had no idea what she was doing. Had no idea how to do a fade. I have like 3 different lines on my sides. I go here regularly, and this trip I took my 19 month old son for his second haircut. Chris does a great job with him and is super patient. Clientele are as wide ranging as the barbers and the music. People clearly come here to get a good haircut and shoot the breeze. Comfortable atmosphere with some loud-ish music playing though it wasn't annoying or anything. Price is reasonable for the area. Don't be cheap, make sure to tip your barber!

Darry cut my hair and I have to say it is close to one of the worst fade haircuts I have ever had. I wanted a half an inch taken off the top of my head and he said he would do that and then check with me if we wanted to go any shorter. Instead, he took off an inch and failed to ask me feedback on the length at all. Im just glad that hair grows back. However, I for one will not be coming back.

I usually like this spot but this time, no. I showed this guy a picture of how I wanted the hair. He did not pay attention to detail. I told him a little bit on the sides and continues to cut and leave me near to bald. I also said I wanted a little from the top cut. He barley cut anything and kept suggesting to cut my hair HOW HE wanted and NOT THE PICTURE. He was very rough when he ran the Clippers and gave me razor cuts. He also asked if I was going to tip in cash or card. I have never been asked that question before. After we were done he didn’t even bother to ask if I liked it or not before quickly just saying “we’re done.” I still gave him a two dollar tip... I’ve been coming here for 4 years and liked coming up until this point. Even after wait times would be 1-2 hours and appointments could not be made anymore.

I've been here a few times because I had a good experience early on, but on the whole my experience has been generally negative. My biggest gripe isn't with the stylists, but rather with the desk customer service. I've tried to call ahead and been hung up on, had people at the desk who didn't even bother lifting their eyes to look at you when they're talking, Wait times that are over two hours when they tell you it will be under an hour... Like I said before, I've had a couple great experiences, but both times the stylist no longer worked at floydd's when I came back next. After a while it just isn't worth it any more. Hope it turns around! I really liked it in the beginning!

Floyd's is an experience unlike any salon or barbershop that I have visited. The walls are decoupaged in old and new music posters and the atmosphere is fun and inviting, yet has a sense of time-honored sophistication. Everyone has their own unique style and look, and it made me feel right at home. It's a classy joint to say the least. Laura was the one to experience the curly mess on my head and she knew exactly what to do, even before I told her what I really wanted. She was efficient and friendly and I enjoyed the experience very much. It was the first time that I have been truly relaxed and was able to just let someone new cut my hair. I'm very very very particular about who does my cut, and Laura was not only professional and knowledgable, but she gave me the best cut I have ever received, anywhere. And I have lived all over the US. A thank you to her and the staff for giving me a wonderful first impression of Floyd's 99 Barbershop in Uptown. I will definitely be making Floyd's my regular barbershop. On a side-note: The place had a sweet vintage feel to it and also felt like an old pub. I think serving a drink of two to patrons would make the experience even more well-rounded. Just sayin'!

I’ve frequented Floyd’s in Chicago in several occasions and had nothing but positive experiences. On my first phone call to your Minneapolis I had a very rude interaction with a girl named Sarah. She was so rude, I went to the steps of calling Floyd’s national office and wound up talking with their District Manager, both people were real easy to talk with. I ended up getting my haircut at another shop, the girl cutting my hair was a former stylist at Floyd’s, she named Sarah by name and confirmed that she is rude by nature and makes a bad name for the shop and the stylists at the shop. Not even a week later, I was eating lunch at a local establishment and had an interaction with one of the stylists from Floyd’s, who was on a lunch break. She, herself, told me how Sarah is nothing but bad news. I’m thinking Floyd’s needs to switch things up, one bad individual can really being an entire staff down, and it seems Sarah is good at that.

Truly, the stylists at Floyd's are great and the prices are reasonable. But there is one thing that disappoints me almost every time I get a haircut, and that's actually getting to the chair. I don't mind being on hold for 15 minutes, only to be told that it is only a 30 minute wait. It is the fact that each time I go in, no matter if I called in or not, I and others around me are forgotten in the lobby. The attention span of some at the front desk paired with an archaic system is the perfect storm to continuously receive $10 off coupons from the apologetic staff. My advice. Call in at 10 a.m. with a 1-hour window of when you think you'll be there. Check in at the front desk. Persistently remind them that you're actually still there.

Called in at 12 to schedule a haircut at 6. They told me to call back at 5 since they only do 1 hour in advance. So I called back at 5, they said it will be a 3 hour wait. I have been here once and it turned out to be a 1.5 hour ordeal even though I showed up on time. The cut wasn't even that great. Will never go here again and will tell my friends not to bother.

I've gotten a few haircuts here, and until today, I've always been pretty happy with the cut I got. Today wasn't so good. I went in for a cut & told the stylist that I wanted a slight fade. Instead, the same extension was used on my whole head(no fade at all). Took about 10 mins (compared to the 1/2 hour they quote when booking online) and when I got to the counter to pay, she told them to charge me for a "Floyd's cut" which was $27, and was supposed to include a hot foam shave (which I didn't receive) When I asked about the difference in service offered & service rendered, they deflected blame onto the stylist saying they "just charge what the stylist tells them to" and gave me $3 back so as to charge me for their "buzz cut" even though they hadn't even touched the hair on the crown of my head. At this point I was annoyed by their attitude & the lack of concern about my lame experience, so I didn't argue for anything else to be done about it. On top of that, I got home & found "straggler hairs" on the line between what's trimmed & what's left for length. All-in/all, I could've asked my GF to do what I had done at Floyd's today & saved $25/not had to deal with attitude. Not a nightmare haircut, but not a very professional one either.

They cut hair well. Better than great clips but not a salon. Most of the stylist know what they are doing and out of the 30 plus time I've been here I've only had one bad cut and I got a $5 coupon for my next visit. Only complaint is you can't schedule hair cuts after 5 at night.

This review has 2 parts- if I could rate the haircut services themselves, they are consistently of 5-star quality...that is, when you can get in a chair to actually have your hair cut. The quality of these cuts is why I’ve tried to hard to make it a point to get in at Floyd’s, but every trip to Floyd’s has turned into “inadvertently spend half of your day waiting in a barbershop listening to a repetitive playlist” - which I just can’t force myself to do anymore. They take reservations, but even looking several days out, there are no openings for anyone with normal work hours to sneak in for a 20min haircut. This morning, I arrived before the store opened, confident I would be able to get a haircut before they got too busy. I was second in line, great! Until 3 other guys approached the other set of doors right at 9AM, which the employee then unlocked their door first - those 3 men got haircuts right away, I was told I would need to wait 2 hours. Truly not worth the effort, no matter how good there haircuts are.

Katie is a racist. Stay away from her. Katie cut my hair a while ago, and it was horrible! Not just was the haircut bad, but she was also rude. She started out nice and talkative. That changed when we were talking about one of my ex-lovers. Then I mentioned that my ex-lover was African-American. She then started getting short on me and rude. She also started rushing the haircut to get me out of there quicker. Maybe it was a good thing that she was rushing because I wanted to get away from her quickly. I have never had anything this bad happen to me in a salon in my life! As she was cutting, I was looking at her and thought she looked familiar. Then I realized that a while back, I had a problem with her at another salon where she was working at the time. I guess zebras never change their stripes.

Very accommodating! I came in 30 minutes before closing as a last minute walk-in. They were more than happy to take care of me. I recieved a fantastic hot towel head shave and beard cut. My barber, I believe his name was Maleek, stayed after closing just to make sure my service was professional and complete. The prices may be a bit high, but totally worth it. I will definitely be coming back.
