This Barber Shop belongs to the category of Barber shop.
I've been going here for my hair cuts for at least 5 years. I always have a good time and get a good hair cut.
great haircut in a historic inclusive welcoming space. Craig is friendly and it's just a nice all-around experience.
Have known Craig for many years before he entered the business and I couldn't have been more impressed with my experience. The shop has a great, clean atmosphere with a selection of recent and even rare magazines and newspapers to read from well waiting for a cut. The cuts here are unreal and turn out exactly how you tell them to do it.
Nice barbershop with friendly staff.
Craig, Chick and now Dan have all cut my hair and they are all highly skilled artists. If you want too sit in a barber chair and be confident that you will leave with a good cut, this is the place to go.
Craig and Chick, the shop's two barbers, do a great job of providing a positive experience in all regards - sharp looking cuts and a classic Barbershop atmosphere where anyone feels like an old friend. The shop can be busy at times, but a cut here is worth the wait!
We love Craig's Como Barber. An iconic establishment.
An amazing experience! It took a couple tries to find a time when they weren't busy, but it was entirely worth it. As someone with little-to-no experience maintaining short hair, I went in, told them generally what I was looking for, and they delivered. My cut was done by Craig, who asked along the way about exactly what I wanted, and worked with me to create a great cut! The cut isn't something that happens quickly - it took at least 45 minutes - but this is because they take their time to make it perfect. This is honestly the best I've ever looked, and at a reasonable price. I'll definitely be going back! Not only was the cut incredible, Craig and the other barbers were welcoming and friendly! A great place that I'll be recommending to anyone looking for a barbershop. As a side note, they only take cash or check, but there are two ATM's nearby and the shop is willing to let you go get the cash afterwards.
There's a lot to like if you're looking for an old fashioned barbershop. Unlike some other reviewers, I wouldn't call 20+ dollars inexpensive for a haircut, but it was good service. Craig shaved the back of my neck with hot shaving cream, which felt good and gives a clean look. There are several bird mounts and a deer head, which some would like and others wouldn't. While I was there, there was some nice banter with a customer and ongoing conversations. It's great if this is the kind of place you're looking for.
Disgusting place, bad haircuts. Never go here.
The haircut and conversation was decent but another patron made a homophobic joke and everyone, including all three staff members laughed along. This did not make me feel safe or welcome. For this reason, I did not have the courage to confront the six men in the room who laughed along. I will never give my money to this business again.
Great barber, classic feelwith a nice touch of humor, and up to date on their current events! Oh yeah they do great cuts too!!
Great barber ship, fair prices, and wonderful atmosphere.
awful
Thanks guys!
Awesome place! Got in right away and had a great experience. The open/closed chair feature on the website was a nice way to know I could get in asap!!! Highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a great hair cut at an affordable price!!!
I have been here multiple times with three different barbers, Dan and Craig are so great. But, there is an elder one, he gave me a most horrible and ugly haircut I’ve ever seen before my trip, now I have to shave all my hair.
Good, simple barber with great haircut. All the guys in there do a great job with any sort of cut. The atmosphere is pretty nice, too. The clock in the store marks the top if every hour with a bird song.
These guys are the best
Thank you guys for the nice haircut. Definitely will come here again for hair cut. Very nice service. Bravo!
I've tried other places since and can't go anywhere else and leave happy. Craig and his cohort do great work at a reasonable price.
Went here for my first time today. Craig cut my hair and did an excellent job. I didn't know that they don't accept cards, but they had no qualms about letting me run down the street to get some cash. Overall a good haircut from friendly people!
I first discovered the Como Barbershop when I was in graduate school (I lived fairly close during my first year). Pete owned the shop at that time and he had a talent for treating every client like they were an old friend. You went there and got some great stories, funny jokes, and a proper haircut. That was back in 1998, and time marched on, as it has a tendency to do. One day I walked in and Craig had just joined the shop. There was a group of guys waiting for Pete to cut their hair and Craig was sitting there waiting for someone to sit in his chair. I took that opportunity to get to a haircut from the "new guy". I knew he would do a good job, after all, Pete had hired him. Pete had never let me down. From that point on, Craig became my primary barber in the shop and haircuts with Pete became less frequent. This was no slight to Pete, he is a great barber. His final act to all his loyal clients was to pass the torch to next generation. He succeeded mightily. I can't always get into the shop because my schedule gets hectic and I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but every time I return, I am reminded of what the true barber experience should be. There has been a barbershop in this location for over 100 years and it is going to continue under Craig's guidance. Do yourself a favor and get your haircut here. Even if there is a wait, do it. You'll hear great stories, engage in great conversation, laugh at a few jokes and get a great haircut. It is probably the best barber experience in the Twin Cities. I almost forgot.....get your Christmas Comb!
Great for a men's haircut.
Everytime I come in here I ask for a haircut better than Donald Trump's, which they do w/ ease because, well-- that isn't hard to do.
Very good mens cuts for a reasonable price. The barber's are also very friendly and fun to talk to. Would reccomend to anyone.
Craig hooked up a sick fade, 5/5 would get cut here again
This place exceeded my expectations! From the great song selections, the conversations, and the jokes, these barbers and their shop create a wonderful family-friendly atmosphere. I love my haircut and the time and patience that was put into making my hair look clean and in style! (They did it right the first time!) I am also overjoyed to have found a barber shop that uses a straight razor on the back of the neck at the end of the haircut. It's one of the best feelings you can experience about a haircut and to me it's what separates a typical cheap barber shop to a top quality barber shop. The price is fair at $22 for a standard haircut and all the above services mentioned are included. The service was fantastic and well worth my time and money and it certainly convinced me to want to tip! The place has earned it! I will certainly be making this shop my new barber shop home.
Old fashioned barber shop with good haircuts. Craig & company can cut all types and styles.
Great old school barber shop in the heart of the city.
Nice service
I needed a haircut in the worst way and was told this was the place to go. Haven’t been disappointed yet after ten years of trying. Go for the conversation and stay for the service. Top notch! Top Notch!
Classic barber shop. Great barbers.
No matter who cuts my hair here it’s always the best cut I’ve had. Always make a stop here right before I head home for the summer because I haven’t found another place like it. They’re all great guys to talk to so coming to get a cut is always entertaining and even when there is a wait they easily pass the time with conversation. Always gonna recommend this place
Best damn haircut I've had in 30 years.
Stay away! They overcharged me. I did nothing, and I mean nothing but a neck trim. I paid $12. A neck trim is $5 in any other barber shop. I remember coming here 3 years ago and being overcharged too. I am definitely not coming back here.
***revision*** all the barbers here really do an awesome job and take pride in their work, in my last review I was just having a bad day and handled the situation wrong. I recommend this place if you're looking to get a solid hair cut. They'll take care of ya.
Great people!
I always enjoy the rustic atmosphere and the courteous professionalism exhibited by the staff. They always give me a fantastic haircut, too.
Old school neighborhood barber shop. Great cut at a reasonable price
One of the oldest and experienced baber shop in minneapolis. Very friendly atmosphere and staff. They put full effort and dedication in their work. It was my first visit and I loved my haircut. Money woth spent.
Great barbers.
Craig's Como Barber Shop blends great customer service with impeccable haircuts for men. I love visiting here, it's like a spa for the male persuasion. A person can relax and converse about any and everything while getting properly trimmed up and looking sharp. On my first experience I was hooked, and still I keep coming back. Now that I've found Craig's, getting my haircut is a special route that I look forward to. Head here if you need to get your ears lowered, you won't regret it .
Cash or check only???!! What is this 1980??! Haha get with the times
This place is everything. Walking in to cheerful staff. Greeted by the lovely dogs. The environment and location are outstanding and their cuts are fantastic.
Best haircut experience I have ever had! The atmosphere of the shop was reminiscent of older times with a simple and laid back feel to it. Craig is excellent at what he does and takes his time to make sure does a good job. The most enjoyable part was talking to fellow customers. I felt like I was in class with how much cool stuff I learned just by talking with the locals. What a wonderful experience; I will definitely be coming back!
Best barber shop in town
Haircuts that are quality. Local barbers who take pride in their craft. I've been to a dozen place around the u of m and I keep coming back to Craig for a cut above the rest.
Super friendly guys, an old time barber shop at it's finest
I've been getting my hair cut at the Como Barbershop since the early 80's. Not only have I always received a great cut, but the social experience was regularly the highlight of my day. I'm always a little disappointed if I don't have to wait for a bit when I come in. The stories are precious. Thanks Pete & Craig!
Always giving a quality cut with a nice casual atmosphere to converse.
On my second visit to this barbershop, the three chairs were occupied, so I went and sat in a chair to wait my turn. As I was waiting, the elder of the three men working told his customer a racist joke about black men. I walked out after hearing it, knowing I couldn't do business with someone that treats serious issues so casually, just because they don't affect him at all. I have altered this post, since I returned to talk to them about this, and the two younger men assured me that they knew the joke was inappropriate, and said it had been discussed.
Love tht simple functionality of their website. The shave is good too.
If you're wondering if you should try this barber shop, you should. Don't take my word for it but this barber shop should be nominated for Star Tribune's "Best Of". Had them touch up my hair after a horrible Sport Clips experience, they've won a customer for life. Great experience, cannot say enough good things about this place.
Awful. I asked for 2 inches on top and the guy gave me 1. waste of $20 and I can't go out in public for another month
Nice barber shop, a bit pricey compared to some other local options, but they do a solid job.
Definitely will come here again for hair cut. Very nice service. Note that this place accept only cash.
I took a chance and booked a last minute appointment as the salon is close to my work. I got an outstanding haircut a great price!
It's a good shop
Trophies are Pete’s taken over the years. Great haircuts and neighborhood spot.
Best true barbershop in town. Craig is meticulously attentive to details!
I've been getting my hair cut here for years. This is the type of place that time seemingly forgot, that doesn't mean they've forgotten how to cut hair. The owner Craig is a cool fella and can converse with people about anything imaginable. A handy skill with the diverse crowd that comes through his doors, from international PhDs and MDs from to U to the kid from just down the street. The interior pays homage to a time past as the place opened in the 19 teens (under different management of course). The service is walk in only. Payment is cash only. It is great. There can be a wait, so be sure to check the website for the number of people waiting to save time.
Such a solid spot. The guys here are efficient , friendly and not too chatty. The owner is a really cool
The guys here are genuine and give great haircuts. Pete, Craig, and the new guy, are a staple of the Como neighborhood. Highly recommend.
I loved it so much! My favorite hair cut ever! The staff was so welcoming and generous. It was affordable and I liked the atmosphere of the shop
Old style barber shop complete with hunting trophies on the wall. No reservations, but they track their chairs and how many are waiting on their website. Cash only.
okay
Excellent service. Great environment.
Amazing old school feel. Attention to detail, even went in with a straight razor on the tight work.
They advertise online on their website that they close at noon on Saturdays, but I have shown up for two weeks in a row at 11.30 am only to be turned away because they were closed the day. Close times in all other businesses reflect the latest a customer can walk in, not when employees think they should be done for the day. Another thing that I don't like about this barbershop is that they don't accept credit cards. So their customers are unable to take advantage of benefits that come with paying with their credit cards. I am not talking cash back etc. I am talking consumer law. Finally, I used to get my haircuts here a lot. What I liked about this place was that they would take their time and pay attention to detail. Some their new guys now though don't. Last time I was at Craig's Como Barber shop one of the new guys spent 10-12 minutes max giving me a haircut. If I wanted a 10-12 minute haircut I would have gone to Great Clips...
Needed to find a place to go that was convenient. Its an awesome place and very unique.
Great place to get a hair cut. I have always been happy with the service here.
First time customer, and will definitely return! Absolutely terrific in every way.
Great people, great atmosphere, great haircut; would come again! The staff were friendly and open (and it was nice to listen to them while getting my hair cut, much more interesting than just the radio).
The shop itself is like a step back in time, in a good way. The history is fascinating, impressive, and makes for good conversation. I have had 4 haircuts at this barber shop by 3 barbers, and my son has had one also. The first was by Craig and was the best haircut I have ever had to date. He took his time, was meticulous, and I felt the money I paid was worth it. So I returned and have had two terrible haircuts by another very kind barber, that I felt sorry for (I would attribute any poor reviews to this particular very experienced barber). The last haircut I had was as meticulously done as Craig by a younger gentleman. A five star barber shop, if you get the right barber!
Fantastic conversation, and a great haircut!
Best barbershop in town! The guys don't use guides and provide great service! Take check or cash only, so come prepared.
These people are nice overall. All of us have flaws and the reviews with the “racist” comments are too far fetched. We all grow up in differing circumstance. I personally had a cut from just about everyone and they all have been more than kind towards me. Having said that, their cuts are good and they are cheap enough, give them a try always had a nice conversation with them!
I stopped by this shop for the first time last week and was very impressed. Really liked the laid-back conversational atmosphere and left with a great cut too! Much better value and quality compared to a chain place trying to get you in/out as fast as possible. A traditional barber is the way to go. I will definitely be going back to Craig's shop.
Nice hair cut. Pretty fast. Good conversation as well
Racist shop. Had to stop going. Wasn't a time I was there where they diddnot talk about black people doing something. Also, started giving bad cuts. Shame too, since I always tipped. *Response to Owner: Shame on you for attacking me, for the sake of money, Craig. You should use this experience to grow and attempt to be less racist! My advice to you: go travel, meet different people, learn that we are all the same. In the meantime, take some haircut tips, maybe drop in on a barber school!
Love these guys—never had a bad haircut here, and their prices are very reasonable.
From out of town. This was the highest rated barbershop on maps near me, and for a good reason. I walked in and waited less than 10 minutes. I asked for a beard trim and was expecting to pay for it. Barber only asked for the haircut ($22). Excellent atmosphere and conversations. Would return again and again if I lived in the twin cities
Craig gave me a nice cut. I'll be coming back.
Quality barbershop cut for a decent price. Ask for Bill.
Overall, not a bad experience. However, I question wtc7 and Larry Silversteins profit. Also a liberal area so be careful of displaying taxidermy.
Great service, great people.
Was a great experience overall, since my time of moving in the Como neighborhood I've gone to the Great Clips in Dinkytown but always felt like it was just meh. The experience is a traditional one which is great, all the barbers, from what I've seen, are very friendly and understanding of what you want, even if you don't. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this place is the time, because the barbers like to take their time getting a haircut perfect, which is good but can make you wait a while if you are in queue. I was recommended this barber by a friend and I think this will be my new to-go place, prices for a haircut were $22.
Awesome haircuts and friendly people
Great traditional barber shop.
Great place to get your haircut. Don't worry about Jack Hayes review. Its obvious he is a scam account. You can look on his prifile and see all his other reviews for yourself.
Old fashion barbershop. No nonsense
Great first experience! Bill did a great job with my haircut. Short wait, friendly and helpful staff, will definitely return.
Very good cuts with a great atmosphere.
My favorite place to get my haircut when I'm in the cities.
The "racist shop" review cracks me up. This place was heartwarming. Even if you don't like to talk too much which I really don't; you'll still enjoy the environment and mood of the entire of the place. I've been to Hop's, Hair Shaft, and Craig's now. Out of the three Craig's by far has been the best cut and most pleasant experience on Campus. I'll be sure to return like many others. The only complaint I have is the wait time, but that just comes hand in hand with great barbers.
Thirty-year customer here, first with Pete and now with Craig (and occasionally Pete). Great place to catch up on the neighborhood, talk to strangers, and--of course--get a good haircut. Plus, you get an autographed plastic comb at Christmas!
