I like to support local businesses and all, but this kid seemed like he was on heroin or something. He took almost an hour snipping each strand a millimeter at a time and without asking, smeared this hot smelly goup all over my neck..which really stung all the broken skin. While I was distracted from the pain, he shaved off my eyebrows.

Good haircut. I like that you don't need an appointment (in fact, they don't take them) in this old school barber shop. They're also open late enough in the evening that you can get your hair cut after work, even if you have a long commute home to Anoka. Fair warning: cash or check only.

Great little shop off old main street Anoka. Loved the small town feel with pictures of John Wayne everywhere and old military books to look at. Justin cut my hair and took his time making sure everything was perfect which has been hard to find at all the chain cut places with beauty school girls. He also did straight razor on my neck with hot towel. They give military and carry permit holder discounts. I will be back

I'm not usually one to gloat about hair cuts, or even one to leave reviews, but this place warrants it. Justin cut my hair and gave me a cut I've never experienced before. He took his time, gave me exactly what I asked for and made sure my experience was top notch. I'm used to chain cut places that give you the standard "guy" cut when you go in (shave it down, spike it, etc.), with Mel's I was able to get my hair cut properly so I can still part it and maintain a Dapper Dan look, not a college frat boy look. He even did what I was afraid to do with my gigantic beard: he faded the sideburns so there's a nice transition from my beard to the sides of my head. Fantastic. I usually put hair cuts off for months at a time, but I'll be maintaining a monthly schedule because of this classy place.

I've been going to Mels for about two years now. My hair has always been difficult to cut due to its stiffness and mind of it's own. I settled at Mels after trying several Hair Solon/Beauty Shops in the Anoka - Coon Rapids area. I find they have a competitive price of around $15 for a full cut. Hair wash, shave, and other extras are of course extra. Generally I go around 4 PM on weekdays and they can get me in within 10 minutes. They answer the phones promptly and the staff is genuinely nice. Parking can be a pain some days, especially around lunchtime. Similar to other barbershops the cuts are standard. Despite the fact I get roughly the same cut every time, other people look good with different hair styles, so I will say they are knowledgeable with a range of styles. Unlike other barbershops they do not do an entire strait shave on the hair line mainly only around the tops of the ear. If they did do the full hairline (Back neck) strait shave my review would have been 5 stars. I had been going to Lakeside Barber in Duluth, MN for over 10 years and use that as my baseline.

I needed my son's hair texturized in the front to remove from his eyes, and his sides cleaned up. What I got was dumb and dumber. I've been crying 2 days after getting my son's hair cut here. Please do not go here. They will ruin your hair. Here's a photo of my son before going into cowboy Mel's, and after. I can't believe anyone would do this to my son.
