I just moved to the greater Baltimore area and was in search of a good barber. Steven was referred to me by a friend and I am very impressed. Will definently come here for years to come. Only drawback is that he is very busy on weekends -- walking in is sometimes difficult but you can stop by in the AM and add your name and # to the wait list which is very helpful.

The system of writing your name and number on the board and waiting for the call half an hour before your turn is something I will have to get used to. From all appearances they are very busy.

I went in at 12:30 pm to get my undercut touched up. I was told to leave my name and number, and that it would be about an hour - hour and a half wait because there were people in front of me. After not hearing from them after 2 hours, I called back and left a message. They did not call me about my appointment for FOUR HOURS, and all I needed was a touch up that would've taken 5 minutes. So I don't know if they're good or not, because they were too unprofessional to call me in a timely fashion.

The quality of cut from either Steve or Charlie is always First Rate! The time and dedication they give to their craft shows every time I walk out the door. Are they busy? Yes. That is a testament to the job they do. Come in, put your name and number on the board, and go about your day. It's a pretty simple process, and someone posting a negative review to the contrary is just being obnoxious and would be better served with a 10 minute cut at their local Salon. Moved to Towson back in the Fall and was looking for a new haircut place. I had been going to chain stores my whole life and decided to try a real barber for the first time. After my first two hard parts (I gave both Charlie and Steven a try) I was hooked. The skill and attention to detail of these two professionals blows chain cuttery's away. On top of that, cuts are very well priced. Conversation is good too. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone.

I can say I actually hate getting my hair cut. In the last 10 years I have only found one person that could cut my hair how I wanted it. Due to the reviews of Hairway to Steven Barbershop I decided that I would give it a try. Worst thing would be I don't like the hair cut. The shop is pretty small, only two barber chairs. Though the decor and atmosphere is nice. Classic barber shop kinda feel. I had Steve cut my hair. We spent about 5 minutes just talking about what I wanted with my hair. He asked quite a few questions to make sure that he would get me the cut that I wanted. During the cutting process, we chit chatted and Steve broke in to song with the radio a few times. It was a good time during the cutting. I finally got to see my hair. He did it. Got the exact look that I wanted. It is just perfect. Then he used a straight razor on my neck hair. So here is the break down. Great little shop, Steve gives a fantastic cut and the price is very reasonable. If you are thinking about going, go. I know I will be going back.

Steven has been my barber for years now. The guys at this shop do top quality men's cuts, both classic and contemporary. The shop itself has great atmosphere, and it is an excellent place to kill time before your cut having good conversation, doing work, or even drinking a beer. The thing that keeps me coming back despite living 30+ minutes away is the attention to detail that these barbers have. Rather than fit a cut to 30 minutes, the barbers at the hairway will give your haircut the time it needs to be perfect. I highly recommend this shop. If you're a stickler for wait times then get in early or make an appointment. It's worth it!

Always get a great cut here for a good value. This is an old-school barbershop; there's no TV, but plenty of good tunes and discussion of what's going on in the world. Yes you're going to have to wait but it is worth it. If you can't wait at that moment, leave your name and number on the dry erase board and they'll call you when you're next up. (They do appointments now but that's an extra expense.) I've recommended them to many people and all have been pleased with the service they've received.

Unfortunately I will not be giving these guys another dollar. Reason being that they told me they might be able to get to me by the end of the day but then told they wouldn't be able to. I even offered to pay the extra money for an appt. So basically a loyal customer(that drives 40 min each way, tips 58% and buy you're not so good styling products) aren't worth taking 30 min extra out of your day to take care. You're business will never go to the places you'd like with these practices. (Doing cuts from your home Steven). You need loyal customers that will always be around unlike the college kids that your business is based off of. Those guys will always come and go. School is temporary and so is there business.

For almost my whole life I've been going to chain shops, but after trying Hairway to Steven, I was hooked and have been going there ever since. Both Steve and Charlie pay fantastic attention to detail and if you're unsure what style you'd like, will work with you to find something complementary. Keep in mind that they are fantastically busy, precisely for the reasons I mentioned above. You go in, write your name on a markerboard with your phone number, and they'll call you when they're available. Just to give you an idea of how busy they are, I called at 9:30 on a saturday, and they were already booked solid for the entire day. I'm sure they don't like turning away business, but they're not going to compromise just to move more people through, and I appreciate that.

To put it in a sentence, these guys are real. They are good at what they do, definitely not boring people, and they take care of their customers. They just moved to another, bigger location around the corner and it's awesome! They have comfortable sofas to relax, books to read, and the radio to listen. If you get bored, you can walk to the unlimited stores in towson. Tip, get in there early and write your name down, or call and make a reservation (for a fee). Oh and charlie always seems to give a shave with hot foam after every cut. Never met a barber that does that. Awesome.

I'm always skeptical about trying new barbers (considering there are very few in the Towson area). So one day, decided to give these guys a go (today). AWESOME PLACE. The guys are super nice, and you find yourself talking to everyone there. The prices are excellent, and can fit anybody's budget. This is my new favorite place to get my hair cut. The business is cash only, which I hadn't realized till I walked in, but the guy cutting my hair - Spencer - let me pay with Venmo. I had an awesome experience at Hairway to Steven. I read the reviews and realized I might need to wait- so I allowed myself a little extra time. Frankly, the extra time was well worth the wait. I had a beer, listened to some great conversation and offered my opinions as well. We talked pizza, beer, home towns, car accidents and more. I suggest that instead of freaking out about the wait, you either hang out and enjoy yourself or go to Barnes and Noble, World of Beer or take a walk. Chances are you probably need it.' The haircut is well worth any wait you may experience. I've never had anyone spend as much time on my hair and beard as Steve did. He paid attention to every detail and took the time to ensure my haircut was 100% perfect. As long as I'm in Towson or the Baltimore region I won't go anywhere else to get my haircut.

I don't think I will ever go to another place to get my haircut. It took a bit to get into a chair but the whole shop talked while Steven and Charlie worked. Once I got in the chair it was all about watching these masters work their trade. Both barbers spent all the time needed to make sure that the haircut was perfect. At no time did I feel rushed like you do as some other places. The atmosphere is relaxed and the conversation is good. Hands-down best cut I have ever received.

The rumors are true, this is a great haircut. Here's the deal with going here though: Go in and out your name and number on the white board and be ready to wait a while, it's always busy. They will call you when you're almost up and you can come back at that point. You could also just hang at the shop if there aren't many names on the list. This may sound complicated, but honestly it's not if you know what to expect. Another option is to make an appointment for an additional $9. If you're crunched for time you can call and do that. Don't call unless you really need to. They don't have someone who answers the phone, so when you're calling someone (probably Steve) has to stop cutting hair to answer it and if it's your butt in the chair you'll appreciate it when no one calls. If you're trying to find out what the current wait time is, don't bother because I saw a guy call and the wait at that point was 30 minutes. Immediately two people came in the wait went up. The guy on the phone was at the shop in less than 10 minutes and the wait was now over an hour. Justin show up and scope it out. Anyway, I this the prices are great, the haircut was great, and once you learn how to navigate getting in the queue it's really pretty easy.

Steven has a great shop. The gentleman here are skilled, friendly, and it shows as they are busy. Be sure to call ahead or walk in early to get your name on the list for the day. They will shoot you a call when they are doing the cut before you. If you need a quick cut right at the moment you walk in, this isn't the place for you. If you need a great cut sometime that day, then this is where you should go. Fair prices and good service.

I've been sitting in Charie's chair at hairway fo steven for 3 plus years now and all I can say is it's the best haircut experience I've had... hands down. IMO a barber shop starts with the decor and ends with the people... in this case they set the bar, u can even grab a cold one from their fridge while u wait for the chair to open. you need to get used to their walk in system though it's a little simplistic... you come in.. put ur name and number on a white board... and either wait for ur turn or go about ur day ( they will call u when ur 30 min from a red chair). I realize it's hard for some people to grasp an un-american system like this that doesn't put the ME first, but you can always make an appointment for 10 bucks extra ( totally worth it) they system as a whole requires that u have a 2nd grade education to understand so I understand why people like that "John p" on Yelp can't figure it out. to sum it all up I've been coming here for years, I braught my friends family and even my wedding party here for pre wedding cuts.... this place is amazing!!

Tried twice to get a haricut here as I'm from out of town and working & staying very close by to this barbershop. Charlies' lack of proper customer skills is amazing. He didn't care that someone he doesn't know walked in to do business with him. Had I known that I needed an appointment I would have made one but instead he let business walk out of the shop twice. Quality haircut, straight razor cleanup, great casual atmosphere. These guys take pride in their work and it shows. They take as much time as needed to get your haircut right. I get compliments for two weeks every time I go see them. You can book an appointment for a little extra, or you can "get on the board". To get on the board, swing by the shop and write your name on the whiteboard. They'll give you a window and a call a half hour ahead of time. Make sure you get there before your half hour is up, because they'll move on to the next person if you're not ready to get on the chair when it's your turn, and you'll have to wait. Waiting there, as it turns out, isn't the worst way to spend a little time if you're not in a rush. There's good, honest conversation, an interesting reading selection, and they don't mind if you have a beer or eat while you're waiting Class act all the way around. Highly recommended.

There are two barbers currently at this location, Steven and Charlie. Both do an excellent job with cutting hair and trimming beards/mustaches. Walk ins will need to get there very early as they normally have a long list. Making an appointment costs an extra $10, but can be worth it. They only accept cash as a form of payment.
