Terry cuts my hair and always does a great job. The wait is usually not too long, prices are very reasonable, and there's plenty of parking.

Door is clearly marked 9-6 every weekday, but the owner is not open after 5. He told me on a Thursday that he’s only open until 6 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I show up today (Monday) after driving across town through rush hour traffic to find he’s closed before 6, again. I can’t give a better review because I can never get to the place when it’s open even when that’s what’s marked on the door.

Being an out of state student, I still am getting used to the city of Lexington. The only barber shop I have heard was the Kentucky Barber Shop on Euclid. I always had to wait hours to get a haircut and they would not have appointments at the times I desired. Southland Barber shop was efficient, took about 20 minutes but thats because there were 3 people ahead of me, and they were ready to give me a cut. My barber was Darren and he is very nice. He is very talkative (in a good way) and seems to attract a lot of locals. He had many conversations with waiting customers while he was cutting my hair, but did engage in conversations with me as well. Usually when I tell the barber my haircut, they change it and recommend a different style. I usually am against it because I feel like I know what I would like, even though the barbers are professionals. I have had bad experiences. He recommended a different hairstyle and I just went with it. It was a great recommendation and I am very happy with the job he performed. The cost was 14 which is not really expensive and I am very satisfied. He gave me his business card, along with 3 coupons for the next haircut for me and my roommates. Great service, great job, great prices. I will be going to him for a long time.

UPDATED REVIEW: I just got a haircut here today, and it was the worst experience I've ever had at a barbershop. I don't remember the guy's name, but he was short, stout, and had a long pony tail. At first I thought the guy was just tired, but then he started acting really strange and unprofessional. I'm not sure if he was drunk and/or on drugs, but he could barely stand up. He was more attentive to whatever he was sipping out of his soda cup than he was to my haircut, and he kept picking at his teeth (chewing tobacco?). He was leaning against me and the chair all the time, almost like he was using me as a crutch to maneuver himself. It was very uncomfortable, and when he would press against my ear, it hurt. Judging by the way he was moving, grabbing onto my shoulders, and swinging my chair around, I really thought was was going to fall over any second and pass out. I should have called him out for his behavior, but I didn't want to question him since his coworker wasn't saying anything. Unfortunately, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him continue. I really should not have. The only reason why I gave him a chance was because my last visit to this place was impressive and excellent, and I didn't want to judge too early. I was wrong and I should have gotten up and left. The way he was cutting my hair was unconventional and imprecise. I felt like the shop just let a drunk guy in to cut my hair. He was going diagonal and every which way, and I could tell that it was all lopsided just by feeling the path that the clippers were going. He didn't ask a lot of questions about what I wanted and just did such a sloppy job. I don't think this guy knows how to fade and taper, or if he's even a licenced barber. The results looked uneven and embarrassing. He asked me if it looked good, and I said yes just so I could get up and get out of there before he butchered it any further. I didn't feel like being confrontational, and so I paid and left. His coworker should have at least chimed in and said something, but the whole time he did not. I was very disappointed and angry. I went straight to another barbershop right afterwards, and they cleaned me up right. Such a night and day experience. Because of this, I will never go back to Southland Barber Shop again, nor would I recommend anybody else go there. If you do, just make sure you get somebody other than the guy that I got. OLD REVIEW: The cut was quick, efficient, clean, and precise. It came out very close to what I had in mind. I was thrilled to see that the barber understood what I wanted and was able to execute. I know I'll come back here again.
