Good haircut but know that the price also includes two hours of waiting to get in the chair. Nothing bad to say about the staff or establishment, but the wait is brutal sometimes. On the other hand, maybe that means they're doing something right.

The first time I went here was the best experience I've ever had getting a haircut. They are great guys, give quality cuts, and it is all around a fun place. My reason for the three star. The next two times I had gone, I waited for over an hour and a half and I still had 5 people in front of me. I work 7-6 every day, one night I was able to get off and be there by 6:20, 40 minutes before close. However they were already closed, so I looked in the door where they clearly saw me but did nothing about it. If you have the time to wait almost 2 hours for a haircut I recommend this place, but if you are hoping to get in within an hour, don't even try it.

I was in town for a few weeks and came here because it had good reviews and they accepted walk-ins. Only one person ahead of me when I arrived, not that I'd mind waiting in a place that has coffee and beer on tap. I think it was the best haircut I've ever gotten - without a doubt the best haircut and most attention to detail I think is possible to find for just $20. If I was forced to come up with a criticism, it's only that my hometown barber will feel a letdown after visiting Franklin's Barber Shop.

These guys do good work and have a very chill environment. I've gotten a few great haircuts here but I only go here if I have a couple hours to kill. This is a very busy place and each time I've been here it's been at least 2 hours before I walk out the door. To me it's just a haircut and it's not worth the wait but if you're really paticular or stylish with your hair or facial hair and quality is worth the wait than this is a good place to go.

I went to De Moines for a wedding and didn't have time to get a cut before I left Oregon. I like the fact that they only do walk ins! I've been living on the west coast for a few years and really appreciate the hustle! The barbers in Oregon could learn a lot by watching these guys work. I really miss the work ethic of the Midwest! The only negative was that the barber wouldn't give me a lineup. The front of my hair grows weird and my regular barbers started giving me lineups about 5 years ago. That being said, the barber was really cool. My wife's family was freaking out all week about the wedding and I really needed a good laugh. Both barbers were hilarious! Nothing better than being funny without trying. If I lived in De Monies, IA - I would become a regular.

Terrible experience. I waited TWO hours, then got skipped on line. I called the guy out, but didn't want to make a scene. Then one of the barbers announced that HE would be next after the smug dude who skipped me. That's right: the business's response to me being skipped was to also skip me. Might just be how things work there, but I'm certainly never going back.

Excellent barbershop in Des Moines that does traditional hair cuts and straight razor shaves! Very cool atmosphere with odd movies playing in the background. Usually a half-hour wait or more, but it's worth the wait. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for a quality old fashioned haircut!

Update: went in again due to the fact that I broke my hand. Because of this, I went durring the work day and had about a 30-45 min wait. Not bad. The barber was singing and dancing while he was cutting my hair, clearly not paying attention. He sheered skin off on the side of my head and played it like nothing happened. I asked to have my beard cleaned up since I have a broken hand and he cut most of it off, leaving a very uneven frame that I still ended up having to fix myself when I got home. I was still charged nearly 50 bucks for this terrible service. I've given this shop multiple chances but I cannot recommend. Lowered rating to one star. First time I went in, great service but very very long wait. I had to wait for almost two hours. Every time since I've been turned away because they are too busy. Great shop, but doesn't matter if I can't get in for a cut. The long wait and inability to get in for a cut is the reason for 3 stars, otherwise would be 5.

Great cuts, funky place. This is THE place to go for a classic barber cut. You can get a hip haircut, while still avoiding hipsters. They don't take reservations, but the the conversations and the wait are part of the experience. Now in a new larger location on Beaver Avenue, the decor reminds me of my grandma's basement if she had cheesy 80s movie posters on the walls.

it really seems as if the narcissistic owner tries to hard to be cool as well as some of the customers. really...make your own bobble head, you're not that important. i believe he almost cried when i tried to put a pillow on the floor to make room to sit. i feel kinda sorry for his employees that have to kiss up to retain their employment. i had to wait 3 HOURS and was also SKIPPED, but the dude that cut my hair did a good job

They close at 8 and I got there at 7:05 and they refused to cut my hair. I told them I just drove all the way from North Ankeny which is 25 minutes and they said yeah well we cut it off cuz we walk out at 8. Honestly change your hours if you are going to stop service early. If you want to walk out at 8 then put your hours at 7.

Got the worst haircut I could have possibly imagined. I spend about 40$ every time I get my haircut here. And the majority of the time I leave with a fresh clean professional fade. This time however I left looking like I ordered a backwards mullet and I'm furious! I will never go back here especially when the dude with the white hair does not give the customer what they want and thinks he knows what's best for the customer. Now i look like an idiot. The other guys give the customer what they want and pay attention for the most part .

Great shop and all the guys are top notch barbers. Communicate what you want clearly and there won't be any issues in the cut. They're a very reputable shop so they get busy. Wait times after work and Saturdays will be busy.

Haircuts are decent, staffs are friendly, and bad movies makes this place great. Usually wait time is about 30-40 mins during early evening hours. Sometimes it takes 2 hours wait time. However, I feel as if I have some peaceful “me time” if I have to wait couple of hours.

This is a great traditional barber shop. Both barbers are very talented and give a great old-school fade. They also offer hot shaves, beard trims, etc. They also have a BBQ thing on the last Sunday of every month. Food, beer, and a cut. Pretty sweet. Very cool guys and a great atmosphere. This place is great! Friendly barbers who know what they're doing. Make sure to check out the bathroom while you're there. Sounds weird, I know, but Tom Jones and a disco ball? Can't miss with that combo. Only downside is there aren't reservations available, so you might end up waiting, but there's plenty to look at while you wait.

All the guys here do an excellent job. Very friendly, and the conversation is great (often hilarious). They've got a selection of can beers, water and even beer on tap if you're thirsty while waiting (they don't charge, but c'mon, don't take a beer and not tip). My hair always looks great when I walk out of here. Pricing is fair. The only downside is that these guys have such a good reputation that the place is almost always packed, so be prepared for a wait, even at non peak times.
