Thought this was a fine haircut, unfortunately when I got home and took a closer look I saw a decent chunk of hair missing above my right ear. Photos of both sides included (the cleanup around the ears isn’t great on the “properly done” side either). Hoped that this place would be a decent barbershop here in Oakland but looks like that’s not going to be it. On the plus side, there’s free beer, although with that quality the cut isn’t nearly worth $35 even with beer included (lining up both sides properly is 101-level stuff which you can get done right even at Supercuts). Edit: after taking a shower I saw that the hair on the top of my head is visibly longer on one side than on the other (left side is longer than right side). This is so amazingly bad that I just don't know what to say. Changing to a (very well deserved) 1 star. Don't go here unless you have another $40 to spend on fixing your hair afterwards.

Karen gave me a solid cut and beard trim and was absolutely delightful company. The waiting room is super comfy, there's free beer, and there was great free street parking out front. I've gotten a haircut here a few times, and it is a really great time; If you're used to going to a hair salon it's going to blow your mind. The barbers are always bantering with each other keeping things interesting, and everyone here knows how to cut a man's hair. The more experienced barbers have been cutting hair for 20 or 30 years, and it really shows. Coming here after getting your hair cut by a "stylist" and not a barber will change the way you think about your hair, and you will be really upset you haven't always used a barber. Just so you are aware, this isn't a discount hair salon, you aren't going to walk out of here spending $15, and your hair won't look like you spent $15 on it either. It will look good, and it will last you for months, you won't need to come back a week later because they butchered your head. It might be more expensive than you're used to for a haircut, but it's worth it.

It's about the experience of feeling like you are with your tribe and the qualities that comes from that: friendship, trust, support, and safe haven from the stresses of the world. I go to get trimmed and styled by Ethan Ibarra. Ethan is relatively new to the art form, but lacks nothing in desire to be the best at what he does. And he does it well. My fades, trims, clean ups or what have you, are just what I ask for. I often just give a bit of info and let Ethan take it from there since he has great intuition of not only of what i might be looking for but also of what is necessary for my look. This is a rare gift and adds great value when the two are combined. That’s the experience I had at Charles Blades. I was seen to by the man himself but it was clear that every other barber-artist in the establishment was worth their salt as well. To say that I was - no, am- impressed wouldn’t do justice to how if felt walking into and, maybe more importantly, walking out of this spot. If you’re in Oakland, check it out. I love these guys but two out of the last three times I had my haircut there, I had to have it recut. The first time Charles himself left a big patch uncut which he fixed the next day. Then I got a very good cut from the young man who cuts even though he was very fast. I went back to him and he moved so fast, that he messed my hair up so bad, that I had to go to another barber and spend another $40 to fix it, which means it was essentially an $80 haircut. I doubt I'll go back even though they're so nice and very convenient to where I live. One out of three just isn't good enough for me.

First I want to say that the owner and the people who work at this shop are wonderful people. I've had a chance to speak with most of them and they're cool / down to earth people that I"d enjoy meeting and chatting with at a social event. That said, I'm super disappointed with the customer service. Multiple times now I've scheduled a haircut, go in 5-10 minutes before the scheduled time, and inevitably wait 20+ (sometimes 30-40) minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment time to be seen. I get that you can be overbooked, or that you can have hold ups, but when all the stylists are chatting with each other during their haircuts and generally letting themselves be so distracted, it just adds insult to injury. It's no wonder I can never get in at my scheduled time. Most recently, I left because I had been sitting there unattended for 30 minutes, in total waiting 45 minutes from the time I arrived. Please, plase fix this issue. I love the shop but it's just not fair to customers to deal with this level of disrespect/unprofessionalism.

The atmosphere might be great but all the barbers are not. My husband visited this location with two of our boys for a cut on May 31 around 3:30pm. A woman cut the boys hair who continued to say she had appointments coming in. Apparently she had appointments or did not feel comfortable cutting a child's head. The edging was horrible and the cut was uneven. We were got...$50 for two children's cuts under the age of 12. She made a quick buck and that's it. There is no quality customer service in that. Very disappointed, if she didn't feel comfortable she should not have offered to do the cut for children. Keep in mind, these are not children who were crying or could not sit still. The female barber simply had no skills.

Decided to try the place out after striking out at other barber shops in the East Bay. "Did your wife cut your hair?" my sister would always ask me. Anyways, got a cut here, and I know nothing about hair so I looked in the mirror and decided "sure, looks good" as I always do. I get home and my wife was like "Wow, where did you get your hair cut? It looks amaze-balls." So there you go. Highly recommend it. It's a bit out of my usual price range but I got compliments for weeks after and have to admit it was well worth it. Plus they gave me a beer while I waited! You folks sure know how to leave an impression.
