Lacking the knowledge and confidence to do haircuts that other barbers do. Not using a guard, a straight razor for cleaning up edges, or aftershave on your neck results in a strange mix of old habits but lacking touches of what other traditional shops would do. Saying something like "real barbers" don't do x or y is a strange gatekeeping of the craft. I'd urge this barber to step out of his comfort zone and learn how traditional haircuts have been updated over the last 10 or so years.

Solid barber, provides a diagnostic approach to cutting hair based on your hair qualities which is welcome when you're exploring new styles. May have to trust the process over a few haircuts for it to grow to his liking if you're coming in with shorter hair. Sal is a one-man shop so you consistently have him cutting your hair but are also at the mercy of one man's schedule for your cuts which forces you to book far in advance. Great choice if you're looking for an old-school cut and a barber with a strong personality, wouldn't advise if you want something shorter and edgier.
