The good & bad of my experience; Unable to reach by telephone and no other apparent means of booking therefore I Walked in on a Friday and was able to fill a no-show after sitting behind the confusing and seemingly cold partition where I discovered, - Walk-ins are double rate @ $60 and I was more treated as an inconvenience in an empty shop. Straight razor on the neck was proper, some attention to detail, however this was ultimately a most basic fade when I was after a professional haircut. I was charged and treated like a quick easy $30 make after the setup that the barber was doing me a solid as a walk in, who, filled a no show. I also had to ask for proper change after paying cash. Likely the best game in town, could have been a fantastic experience but the big fish, small pond complex lead it to fall very short of expectations.

Love this place. James is awesome. Call ahead for an appointment. They don't do walk-ins. Also, bring cash. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Currently located in a shared space with Prevail Union Coffee Shop but soon to move to the newly renovated Kress building.

I was referred to this shop and set up an appointment for a haircut and not only did the barber not show up but they didn’t even let me know. Apparently this barber did this to another guy that was waiting and had an appointment as well. That individual said that he left work early to get his haircut so I can understand how upset he was after being blown off with no prior notification. First impressions are everything and this shop failed miserably. The place also has the weirdest setup I’ve ever seen. You can’t even see the barber chairs because of this odd partition that separates the waiting area from the cutting area. I ended up just going around the corner to another barber. I will also be sure to inform everyone how horrible the service is here.

The atmosphere is extremely relaxed, and the cuts look good. Pricing is not immediately apparent and some of the decor might be off-putting, but the barber is professional and does a fantastic job

The man in the pink shirt who is standing next to his certification in the above picture completely DESTROYED my hair. I walked in on a regular weekday and had this man buzz my hair to nothing. I simply asked for a 1.5 on the sides and to not touch the top yet this guy buzzed my top for no reason and before I knew it - it was too late. DO NOT GO TO THIS GUY (look for guy wearing the pink shirt). The owner was gracious enough to refund my money but he ruined my hair. completely ruined it. And he showed no remorse or not even a "sorry".

James gives great haircuts and in an awesome historic location. If you get the chance, show up early and take a walk around the Historic Artisan Basin. Also, the hours are correct as listed, but these hours are by appt only, as mentioned in the other review, you need to download the Booksy App in order to set up an appt.

Just got my first haircut here today and it's the best one I've had. Used to go to salons, but James knows how to properly cut a man's hair. This is the only real barbershop in Montgomery, and I'll keep coming back.

Appointments only, but they don’t actually set appointments when you call them. Well, to be precise, they don’t even answer the phone when you call, and if you text, they stop texting when you try to set an appointment. No posted hours. Probably a front for drugs.

I've been going to James for cuts for I guess almost a year now. This is a newer location for him, and it's easy to make appointments with him through the booksy app. He is pretty much appointment-only, since it's a one-man show- so either call ahead or check through booksy (he's easy to find on there if you're in the area). Anyways, James is great at what he does, and you can tell he enjoys it. He knows how I like my hair cut, he's easy-going, my son likes him too.

I've been going to James for a while now. He's an absolute first class barber. The environment is great, the haircuts awesome, and he's the only guy in Montgomery I would trust to trim a full beard. He's great with adults and my son absolutely loves him ("I want to go to the guy with the mustache!") I'll never go anywhere else, James is definitely my barber as long as I live here.

James and Co. are great people and very talented. Old style barbershop that has been lacking in Montgomery. Got my first hot shave, and it was amazing. Can't wait to see the new shop in the Kress building. Note: this is not a salon, they do not have a receptionist, and they do not like to answer the phone when they are with a client if they can help it. If they do not answer they will always call back between clients, during lunch, or after they close up. You can also text the number and they will text back as well. So do not expect a same-day appointment, although I have gotten lucky many times, it is possible. Be patient, call in advance, it is worth it. Call well in advance if you want both a cut and shave, because that requires a large time block.

I will caveat this with it was my first haircut at this place, so future haircuts might improve. I did not receive the haircut that I asked for, despite giving specific instructions on what I wanted. I also received no questions clarifying what I wanted. The haircut I did receive was on the higher end of average. The barber was very nice, and gave me the haircut for free after I told him it wasn’t what I wanted. I’d give it a second shot if I was here long enough.
