FIND A DIFFERENT BRANCH TO DO BUSINESS WITH.
We did a refi with 5/3rd through a different branch and had no problems. However, started using this one for day-to-day banking as it was close to home. They can handle doing basic deposits and withdrawals, but seem to struggle beyond that. I tried to open an HSA account at this branch, made and appointment ahead of time letting them know what I wanted to set up. I showed up on our scheduled day/time and they informed me they were unable to set up an HSA at the branch level - could’ve told me that over the phone to avoid a trip in. So I call the 5/3rd customer service line and they inform me I can’t set up an HSA over the phone I have to go into a local branch. Very frustrating.
I also tried to get a renovation/construction loan from them and they informed me (after a few days of reserach) there wasn’t a product that would work for us. Knowing they were wrong, I contacted another bank and they were able to find a product and approve us for exactly what we wanted within 3 days. Maybe Fifth Third doesn’t offer a product in this space, but they should be more aware and knowledgeable of the industry.
Save yourself the headache and use a different branch for banking needs.
