We have the information of real people who consume the services of Discover Bank (Bank) in the state of Delaware.
Nowadays the business has a rating of 2.8 over 5 and this score was based on 81 reviews.
As you can see its rating is discreet, and it's founded on a very high number of reviews, so we may be pretty sure that the valuation is very faithful. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they are pleased with the business, it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to give opinions when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Bank belongs to the category of Bank.
They will put on hold your money for up to 10 business day.
I have had a Discover Card for over a decade and checking and savings accounts for about 5 years. There are no branches locally, so it is strictly internet banking and therefore has limitations, which I understood from the outset. I switched to them after having been screwed by three local banks, one of which I had been with for over 30 years. If these people handing out the critical reviews think there won't be issues with other banks, they are in for a rude awakening. I am very suspicious that there is a lot more to some of these sob stories then we are told. If you wait until the last minute to pay a bill or make a deposit, you are asking for trouble. If there's a glitch - and they do happen - you don't have time to correct it before a cascade of late fees, penalties, etc. Blocking access to accounts when fraud is suspected is a universal banking practice. Better safe than sorry. It will cause inconveniences, but would you rather find out your checking account has been emptied?
Read the fine print in their offer for an intro bonus. I guess I had an account with them years ago so it wasn't my first account. The worst part is when I called in they said I met all the criteria and it would be deposited in the next month. After another month I got a letter that said the exact opposite. I didn't meet all the criteria and no bonus. So I has to call again to even get a reason. Don't waste your time with Discover Bank!
Can't even make an online purchase without them blocking it. I was told that the merchant must not accept Discover, it was for Amazon, which definitely does accept Discover. Then later they returned a credit card payment which in turn made me miss my payment due date, so now my credit score has been lowered all thanks to them. I will be closing my account as well as my savings account.
Dealing with Discover Bank for checking & savings and the Discover Credit Card has been positive so far...
They are going to call me
I have checking/saving account with Discover. Last Saturday (05/18) I needed my money urgently. I called them and I asked them to send me a check asap. A Supervisor told me it takes at least two business day, you will get the check on Tuesday evening (05/21). Now, it's Wednesday, I called everyday twice to expedite this process... Now they are saying I will get my check on Thursday evening(05/23)..... WHAT A WONDERFUL SERVICE!!! DON'T PUT MOST OF YOUR MONEY IN THIS BANK OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT ACCESS YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU NEED IT.
First of all, I opened a checking and savings account with Discover because I have had a good experience with their credit card. I have had a card with them since 2011, and the banking accounts for the last year. However, it has been nothing but jumping through hoops and calls to customer service for the last two months as I recently got married and needed to change the accounts to a joint account. Who'd have thought that adding my husband to my account would result in them holding all of my checks for TWO WEEKS post deposit. A TWO WEEK hold on money we needed to close on our home following a cross country move. Not only were they unhelpful in this aspect, but then they wouldn't give me the federal tracking number on a wire transfer (that I was forced to do as a result of the check hold), basically lost the money for 36 hours, and then acted like it was all ok. When I was told the money would be received by the other bank within 2-3 hours and it took over a day to get there... that's a problem. In addition, now they won't even show my husband's information on the account and will not let me make sure his account information will show. It's a joint account. I am his wife. I am the one who had to authorize him yo be on the account, yet theres no way for them yo show the account as a joint ownership and a whole other slew of hoops to go through yo get him on the account and able to deposit his checks. Sorry Discover, you have lost my banking business. I will happily be taking my business elsewhere.
Insane check hold times. Deposited check via mobile app on November 3rd. It says funds will be available on November 15th. What a joke! Stick to a local bank and stay away from Discover Bank with their 12 day check holds.
Discover put me in an awful situation today. I was traveling over 2.5 hours away from my home when I realized my Discover Debit Card was not working. When I called Discover around 8 am, they informed me that my card was deactivated, although it did not expire until 2021, because they sent me a new debit card. Further review showed that the new card had been returned to Discover and I was never notified. Customer Service initially said that I had been notified of the pending new card but further review showed that I was NEVER notified of the new card or that my current card would be deactivated. I was left 2.5 hours away from home with $20 cash and no access to my account. The Supervisor offered to wire my money to my account at another bank in order to have access to my money the same day. She agreed to waive the $30 wire fee and assisted me with initiating the wire which I was ENSURED would be delivered to my other account by the end of the business day. I spoke with two other customer service members to verify the wire transaction and was told by both members that the wire was being initiated and would be delivered same day. I also opted to close my account with this transaction due to the lack of customer service and inconvinence of not having access to my own money! Around 4 pm, I received a phone call from the wire department who informed me that they did not complete the wire because I had a $1 pending charge from 5 days ago. They requested that I process a new request and they REFUSED to process the new wire same day because it was already after their deadline. I was expected to wait another 24 hours for access to my own money. I called customer service again to ensure there was no other option to access my account and was denied any alternative solution or even an apology. As a result of this situation, I had to spend my only $20 cash on gas to get home and spend the entire day waiting for money that wasn't even getting transferred to me instead of being able to travel home early in the day. The expenses and inconveniences for DISCOVER's multiple mistakes include: 320 miles of travel, lack of availability of funds to purchase food, and 5 hours worth of time lost traveling.
Opened an account and deposited money. Money is not available until after I need it (Even though when I did the transfer it said money would be available on Jan 30th, but they are holding until Feb 2nd.) Called customer support and there is nothing they can do. Hopefully the company I owe the money will work with me cause these guys sure as heck didn't. I'll never be using this account again. UPDATE: Still haven't used this account since. Fortunately we were able to get help from a family member and then immediately paid them back. This was a terrible first experience with a bank and I would choose anyone else over them.
Helped my father in law open a savings account on line six years ago. When went to withdraw some, they flagged it as suspicious and locked the account down. Now demanding proof of identification. Six years later!!! That is suspicious. Maybe they don't have the money? Do not use this bank.
I've had this checking account for about 3 years- I use it every now and then because there is no service center locally. It takes about 7 days for your money to become available, even with transferring funds electronically. I don't like that delay. I'm going to close my account. I've had it with Discover Bank.
This bank will respond to concerns quickly using form factor responses.. If the bank makes a error, they will not take any responsibility and will attempt to distort facts. If you request a response in writing, the bank will refuse. I can not recommend the use of this bank.
Great bank. Could always call 24/7 and speak to someone in Utah. Great online interest rate and bonus.

Seems like a good deal.
I became a customer in 2010. I was one of those who swore by this bank until I saw their other side. The representative Amy, from their wire department is something else and lacks true customer service approach abilities..I don't understand why Discover bank would rather loose customers than maintain them. Anyways I have since moved on to a different bank where my business is greatly appreciated. My advice to current and future customers-flee as fast as your legs can carry you.
Horrible service! After reading my Consumer's Report list of worthy banks, I applied online and confirmed by phone to transfer monies from CD's into Interest Savings Account. Spoke to Amanda and Emerald (Phoenix) on 7/14/17. Discover forms promised by 7/19 never arrived! Today, 8/1/17, phoned again and spoke to Emily (Salt lake) kept on phone for over 20 minutes with no explanation of glitch ....finally CANCELLED....you'd think we were trying to borrow funds!

I tried to get a roll of quarters and they first asked if I was a Discover Bank customer and I was Not. They then asked if I own a Discover card, which I did not and they would not give me change!!! Horrible customer service from a horrible credit card no one carries or no vendor accepts
Frustrating
Customer for 10 year thus far. No complain. Have credit cards and bank account with them.
I have an online discover bank account. When I tried to take money out, they flagged it as "suspicious activity". They blocked my account - I couldn't even log on. I had to spend an hour on the phone with them getting transferred around. Now the money I was withdrawing is stuck in limbo - not in my account and not in the account I was transferring to. I have to wait for what they are telling me a week to get it back into my discover bank account, then re-initiate the withdrawal. Then another week for that to happen. Bottom line is it might take you a few weeks to get your money when you need it. Back to the brick and mortar banks for me.
I couldn't log onto my Discover account online in July 2017. Discover ignored me e-mails and wouldn't do anything. I filed a complaint with the Delaware Bank Commissioner, the Better Business Bureau, and CFPB. Discover then let me back into my account. I called Discover to follow-up on it. A few weeks later they wouldn't let me into my account again. I e-mailed Discover's CEO and executive customer service on 7/31/17 to overnight my bill to me since they won't let me pay it online. Instead of taking responsibility and fixing the situation, Discover ignored me. I sent a message to Discover through Twitter. First, the Discover employee on Twitter lied to me stating they don't lock customers out of their accounts. He kept saying I needed to call Discover even though I told him I did call them weeks ago about it. He was very rude and not helpful. He also said Discover only uses "appropriate" language in their communications. That's a lie...Discover does not respond. lol
Good website usability and good CD rates.
Very efficient rewarding bank
Horrible experience Exec called me back after a long time telling me they made a note if my complaint Janine Jenkins from their exec office just wasted my time Two other banks have my deposits now They never get a cent if business from me anymore Go back to customer service school
Would never bank with them, they let me open a savings account but would not let me open a checking account. simply offended with how i have been treated.
No issues yet! I was issued a Discover student credit card when I was 18, and have since gotten my credit score into the highest bracket that most institutions recognize. They provide a good grades cash back bonus, and also have a great first year cash back match program. As the credit card worked well, I opened a savings account. While no bank will give you a ton of interest, The discover 1.1% is still about 6 times better than the old bank I had used. There is a delay when moving money, but this is okay, as I plan to deposit, and not withdraw from my account. I'll be graduating soon, and loosing my "student status" from my other bank as well. Luckily, Discover checking accounts do not have fees such as minimum balances etc. While I have had some questions, everything has easily been resolved through phone or email support. I figure most reviewers simply complain, due to getting themselves into their own trouble.
Discover it’s been a great Bank to me. Good APR interest in the savings account (1.75) vs the 0.01 from chase
It's a great Bank. I am not sure why it has so many bad reviews. I have had a Discover Card since my late teens, and I opened a Discover Checking Account a few years ago. I really like their service. Except American Express, every other card I've had has been hacked some way or another. Not Discover. I can always rely on them. Their checking account was great before, but now starting December 2017, they're changing the terms, and now there's no benefit to me, which is why I am knocking a star off this review for them. But otherwise, I highly recommend them. It's the best customer service and experience in the market!
Discover Bank has great rates, but don't use them! I've been a loyal customer for many years and have had great service until recently. For the past three weeks I have not been able to access any of my accounts AND I HAVE MANY ACCOUNTS WITH THEM. I have appealed to them over and over to fix the problem, but all I get is that they have written a ticket on it. I've spent hours on the phone with them to no avail. Discover is not a brick and mortar bank, so online is a customer's only access. I have savings, checking, money market and CDs with them, NONE OF WHICH I CAN ACCESS...this has been the case for THREE WEEKS. If their techs can't fix the problem in that amount of time something is truly wrong. From now on I'm sticking with banks that I can see and visit. This is a nightmare! Shame on Discover! People need to know! Please share! As a follow up, it took another 4 weeks to be able to access my accounts, and that was only after I contacted the FDIC and the consumer finance protection of the federal government. They registered a complaint with Discover. It was only then that Discover took action.
Why don't they have a corporate rap sheet? They stole over a thousand dollars from me in false interest charges in Walker County GA Magistrate civil suit. Erroneous balance amount. My detailed audit disregarded and not reconciled.
Worst bank to deal with ever. Customer service is completely useless and won't take ownership of the wrong informtion provided. Long story is they will take your deposit. Hold it for as long as they want. Give you the wrong information and when you have items that need to be paid they will return them and charge you a fee even though they have over $3k sitting in a deposit hold that has already cleared the other bank. Then they want to tell me that that's not the case when I clearly can see the money is gone. So it's in limbo? Worst experience ever. This is coming from a former BOA employee who understand the banking industry RUN FROM THIS BANK!! Do not use them at all!!!
My husband suddenly passed away and I had four young children. Two weeks after he died We received his last check. I was employed but made very little money. I called my other credit cards, explained my situation and EVERYONE of them helped by lowering my monthly payments ( all of these cards were payed off within a year ) . I had a credit score of 780 ... it was very important to me to pay my debts. I called Discover and BEGGED them to lower my monthly payments . I was unable to pay any more, I had been a customer for over 15 years and had never been late on a payment before that . They refused to help.. finally one month it came down to feeding my four children or paying my discover payment.... I called more then ten times begging them to work with me. They ended up taking me to court. One month They emptied the only $400 I had left in my bank account leaving me without even a penny for food or gas that month . They have made it impossible to have a bank account or even own a car. I only owed over $3000, I WANTED to pay it . It's been six years and they are still making my life miserable. The heartlessness of these people is beyond my understanding. I hope should anything ever happen to thier families that they run into people with more empathy then they've showed me .
We missed our closing date because the delay caused by Discover's wiring services. What can I say? When called for explanation we were constantly interrupted and "educated" by the so called manager on the other side. Nothing else good to say about this bank other than the worse rating possible.
The reason for the 4-star rating is the interest rates are not quite the highest. However the customer service is impeccable. Always very happy when dealing with discover.
Home of Discover
I think is really good. Customer service readily answers questions. Electronic transfers from my other bank takes a bit but I usually transfer money with a picture check deposit and its way faster. Don’t use it more because I work for another bank which offers me a free accounts with all the bells and wisles.
Great customer. Everyone is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
I'll be closing ALL my accounts. HORRIBLE service
I've been a longtime customer and never had any of the issues described by other reviewers. I did have one problem with an typo on a transfer (and it was my fault) which resulted in an overdraft and it could have been disastrous to my credit, but they were helpful in resolving it. I've done a couple balance transfers and all were quickly and smoothly accomplished. I'd recommend this bank.
I have been unable to access my account for long periods of time. Takes Discover Bank eight days to process a simple transfer. This bank is a scam..
worst. dont even think about it
I’ve had two missing transactions from this branch in the last two months. One from the ATM and one from a cash deposit inside the branch! Says funds will be available immediately and they go missing. Had to call and file a missing transaction for them to find the funds and make sure they’re applied to my account.. this bank is rediculous.
I’ve had a Discover Card for several years. Rarely used it. Recently opened a checking account only to discover that the ATM card is absolutely worthless in Asia. Also, the Discover Card is of very limited use in Asia. A plus is their excellent customer service. I hope they “Discover” a lot of the peoples of the world do travel.
I recently opened an account with Discover Bank. I have had to call customer support a couple of times. All of their representatives have been extremely polite and responsive. I appreciate that signficantly. Thank you!
I have used the drive in window and always received good service. I actually went in the bank recently to make a deposit and also worked with a personal banker. Beth was very professional and great to work with. It's so nice to go into a bank and be waited on by a person and not be directed to a auto teller. Kudos to Discover Bank for offering real customer service.
Debit card service only
abolutely the stupidest web site I have ever been on, no more business with Discover Bank, they need to fire thier IT man and join the rest of the world. 1.15% interest, WHO CARES.
Until My experience changes, Ive had nothing but positive things to say about discover bank? I do hear so many people saying bad things, but so far my only complaint is getting cash into my account.
I've worked in a bank myself, so I understand how deposit agreements and schedules of service charges and fees work. Banking is a personal thing, so no one bank fits everyone. You don't have the in person convenience of most banks with Discover. If that's your thing, don't bank with Discover. However, if you like NO service charges besides wires or federal violations, and free checks, and great interest rates, and dont like walking into banks, then give this bank a try! Their mobile app links with the discover credit card in a sleek interface. ATM is the only tricky part about this bank. You have to use the app to locate service charge free ATMs, bit they're around. (Its a partnership with third party ATM vendors!) ATMs might not give you the option of choosing your bill denominations, the one I've used so far gave me 20 dollar bills only. But if you're cashless already, why choose a service charge bank like BoA, PNC or Wells Fargo? Customer service is all through a call center, and from my experience so far, they stock their center with knowledgeable and friendly people. I give Discover bank a five star rating because of its clever and streamlined approach to banking, not because it beats mainstream banks at their own game.
I signed up for the cash-back checking because who doesn't want cash back? Also, I had had only positive experiences with Discover credit this far. I switched my direct deposit to this Bank, but of course it takes a few pay periods to kick in. The first of the month rolls around and I stupidly decide to write my rent check from my Discover account thinking that I could just easily deposit my paycheck. I go to deposit my check and getting message that most of the funds will be held for a week and a half. No thanks. So I deposited my check into my other checking account figuring that I could just easily transfer the money over to cover the checks. Well, I had no luck with that either! I couldn't register the account with PayPal. Couldn't register the card with Google pay. I called discover about this, and was told that the companies were trying to make withdrawals which were rejected by the bank because there was no money in the account. I guess PayPal was trying to authorize a dollar as some companies do to verify the account, which they also refund. I also tried Zelle , but they weren't registered with zelle either. I tried cash app also, thinking that I could just wire the money to a friend and have them cash app it back to me. Guess what? Couldn't register the card with cash app either! I called them to see what they would suggest, unfortunately they weren't able to offer me any suggestions. At the end of the day, I wound up depositing a personal check and I was excited to see that the check with post in a few days. However, I was told that the check will be held a week and a half. My rent check wound up being returned. Get this, I received a letter a week later stating that a prolonged hold will be placed on the check because of "doubts of collectability." Well, the account will be closed because I doubt this is an account that can meet my banking needs. What an absolute headache! Needless to say, I got no cash back rewards from using this account, only late fees from not paying my rent on time.
Okay I've banked with every major bank and discover is the best opening an account is simple, customer service is available 24/7, and there are no fees but be warned if you do more than 6 withdrawals a month you get a 15.00 fee but that is far better than 35.00 so I'm not complaining oh and to everyone complaining about funds availability you should know that if you deposit a check the bank needs to verify that the check is valid and that the funds are there and all banks do this but discover stands out comared to them
I opened a savings account with a promotional code for $200 bonus on Oct 27. The account was funded for more than $20,000 by Nov 15. However, the $200 bonus was not deposited to my account by the promised date, Nov 30. When I inquired about this issue, I was told thar was a system error on my account and a dispute was filed to the marketing department for not receiving the bonus. I was also told that the process would take at least another 3 weeks for marketing department to conclude if bonus would be honored as promised. I'm disappointed with the Discover Bank's inability to resolve issue in a reasonable time frame when the fault is caused by Discover Bank system issue. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that they would honor the original sign-up bonus agreement. ... deceptive practices
Awful bank. They closed my account because they said my information didn't look right. Excuse me? I know my SSN, DOB, where I live etc. Then they did it without warning . I asked the supervisor do y'all tell customers beforehand when you are closing their account.? The joker paused and gave me no answer. I had $2,400 coming to me bc I was in a accident and needed the money for physical therapy, procedures etc. THEY ARE THE WORST BANK TO BANK WITH. Customer service is awful bc they were all giving me attiftudes including the supervisor. They have another law suit against them it seems . Bank else where . Pathetic. They better send me the rest of my money in a check or I'm raising hell on them.
I love Discover Bank. They provide not only free checking/savings accounts, but also great customer services. For immigration purposes, I needed a letter listing current balance, average balance for the past six months, and date of opening for each account that I had with the bank. I asked various banks and Discover was the only one which did it for free. Out of stupidity, I paid my credit card bill directly from the savings account and incurred an "excess withdrawal fee". I sent Discover a message explaining that I had not known the existence of such fees and asked for a first-time offender waiver. Discover granted my request within three hours. I would highly recommend Discover to anyone who's tired of exorbitant fees with other banks.
great customer support! have loved Discover Bank for 5+ years.
I sent five on-line bill payments to one BOA credit card account. All didn't go into it. Four of them returned in time as credit back to my checking. The first one of $50 on 02/17 got lost. Since then I called near ten times, talked to more than ten staffs/super/manager, got different answers but not solve my problem. Several staffs seem short of basic knowledge to review my statement. I got really tired to repeat the story on every calling.Today one manager Jessica insisted on me to check with BOA side. I know she is wrong, but I still called BOA, Kathy/Delaware office told me BOA couldn't check/trace it as it paid by Discover on-line bill pay. Discover bank has all means to solve the problem for you. This is my terrible experience with their customer service. Where can I get help with? Any contact numbers? Thanks!!
I'm with pnc bank and never with discover bank or had a credit card by them. So I called my bank bc I was missing $ 800 dollars from my account and my banker guy told me that there was garnishment from discover bank which I never had this bank. So idk I'm very unhappy when I called this discover bank they gave me the run around .
They will place a 50-60$ charge on your withdrawal when their system messes up and withdraws too much from the discover account. Also when you make a withdrawal you do not get the money right away but after 7 days to make matters worse, I still haven't gotten the money I requested. Bottom line: these guys are shady people and will steal your money. You have been warned
Be aware that when making any form of deposit to your Discover checking account, your funds are not available for a period of time. The app states that "deposits made by 6:30pm ET are reflected on your account the next bisiness day". This is very misleading because the fact is, $200 is available the next day but the remainder is not. This has caused me to bounce two checks now! I will be closing this account as soon as my funds are available!
Discover froze our account due to suspicious activity and did not even tell us. The only reason we found out was because it locked me out of the app saying there was some technical difficulties. The proceeded to close our debit cards on a Sunday and we had to explain to them we don't have any way to get to our money without cards and they said it would be five to ten days for new ones. Called six days later to find that they were not making it our address and they did not know why so they sent more and we waited. Still no access to any way of paying for anything unless it was online. Tonight I go to transfer the money we put in savings to cover our bills and come to find they are locking us out of our accounts for three days to do maintenance so now I can't transfer money and when you call they will tell you sorry for the inconvenience. Sadly that will not pay the overage charges and it will not pay the fees from my bill collectors. The customer service rep did say its a holiday so maybe it won't come out of your account and I explained it will come out because the rest of the world doesn't stop for labor day like they do. They also told me they have been advertising it on the app and website for three weeks. I have seen it once yesterday and by then it was to late. I just love how a bank can lock me out of my accounts and tell me sorry for the inconvenience and the three hundred dollars in fees.
