Hot dogs are a must try item. You need to get there early or call ahead a reserve a dozen. Yes you need a dozen. You will be amazed at the awesome aroma and the sweet, buttery goodness in every bite. Cookies and cupcakes are good also.

So Saturday I take my family for the first time and it is really disappointing. The lower end pastry cabinet had a HUGE fly trapped in with the cookies! Yup, he is in there flying around while people shop. Sooooo we went to the other end and crossed our fingers that no flies had gotten in there at some point (at least we didn't see any). We took home four varieties of pastries with mixed results. Two we thought were good, a snowball and chocolate cherry item. However, the chocolate cake was disappointing as was a petit four. When you add to the equation the staff who I feel is pushy, rude and impatient (they ambush you as soon as you walk in demanding to know your order) I will not likely come back. Sigh.

What can I say about a small privately owned bakery with generation s of recipes that are made with love and more than 50 years of service? Pure perfection. It is THE place to go for any type cake you want.... especially wedding.... if you need a quick stop for desserts for a party or gathering this is where you go. You will savor every bite and never have remorse on eating that 2nd cookie or brownie because you can taste every home cooked element in every bite. Hope they stay open forever!!

I love to go to Spring Hill Pastry!! I get pastries to take to the staff at Valley Nursing Home where my mother is. I go there to buy pastries when I have company from out of town. This place has made a West Virginia dessert staple. The "Hot Dog". If you have never experienced a dessert hot dog, then you simply must treat yourself. But make sure you go early. Hot Dog. Hot Dog, Hot Dog Hot Dog, Hot Dog. Hot Dog. I think I made my point. Oh, and get there early...by early, I mean within the first hour...maybe ninety minutes (if you want to get a Hot Dog - and you want to get a Hot Dog). For those that don't know, first I pity you, but second, a Hot Dog is a long John type donut, split down the middle, cream filled, powder sugar dusted, with or without a drizzle of chocolate. I've probably explained this poorly, but you get the idea. It's the "thing"! It doesn't matter how many they make, they sell out early. They're what everyone at your workplace craves when they see a Spring Hill box. On this trip, I also bought a Boston Creme donut...and wow, fantastic. And multiple times I've had a Spring Hill cake, and that is the premier cake to get! You definitely need to go...tomorrow morning (early)!

Spring Hill Pastry is without a doubt the best bakery known. I am 70 and have been going there since i was a kid. For many years I have not lived in WV but make sure I can go when I am back. Their vacation for two weeks over the 4th of July often makes it difficult. I have lived just outside NYC, NC, VT, DE and WA state and only Olympia, WA had a bakery that came close to how good this place is. We all have had our favorites. I have always like their white cookies. They fancied up the name and now they call them wedding cookies. My daughter loved the star cookies and I always make sure I bring back several dozen for her. We all think their white wedding cake is the best made. There cream horns, chocolate eclairs, cream puffs and on and on are just the best. If people want to complain because an exhausted staff closes before they get there to bad. None of us are that special. They close when they close. I am sure people call every single day asking them to stay open just a little bit for them. Be considerate of them and don't ask this staff that has been on their feet for hours to stay late.

Personally love their homemade donuts and pecan rolls. Also purchased my wedding cake from here and couldn't have turned out more perfect. On Valentine's Day we purchased some West Virginia hot dog pastries and they were delicious. For special occasions as this it is best to call ahead of time a few days and make your order because they were all gone by the time we got there. They have a large selection of pastries, parking is on the street and poor. If you park across the street from the pastry shop you will be blocking traffic and possibly get your mirror hit.

Spring Hill Pasty has the best pastries I've tasted in a while. Stopped in one day after a Dr appointment they were very friendly and helpful. Although they were out of alot they told me that you have to there kinda early to get the good stuff, lol because they stay very busy because of all the Dr offices and they have a lot of regulars who will call in orders. But even what I got was sooo yummy I was still very satisfied. Definitely worth visiting.
