The cupcakes are amazing! I have called at least 5 times within the last month, every time I call someone answers, & places me on hold. I am on hold for at least 20-25 minutes. I end up hanging up. I have called back for a women to tell me “we are extremely busy I can’t answer your question today call back at another time” I am getting married in November and am getting my cupcakes & individual cutter cake from here. If I didn’t have only 2 months left & had time to go somewhere else I would. Again- cupcakes are amazing- staff needs work.

As a traveling salesman I bring in a lot of treats. with that being said these cupcakes are by far the best you will find. Both in terms of quality and selection of fun flavors. Its also great that they have VEGAN and GLUTEN FREE cupcakes available which is great since I'm allergic to diary and eggs.

For anyone who is in a wheelchair or has a family member in a wheelchair, avoid this place. They aren't accessible for people in wheelchairs because the doorway is too narrow and the threshold isn't flat. I was disappointed with Pearl's after hearing good things from people in Richmond. The owner/manager was not too concerned when I mentioned the issue about my friend in a wheelchair not people able to come through the door. She said it was not an issue because few limited mobility patrons come in and they can wait outside. When I moved to Charlottesville, I did not go to their location because of my negative experience at Pearl's. Very upsetting and I hope they fix their door so that it complies with ADA.

It was my wife’s birthday and I looked Pearl’s up to see what time they closed and the google business page said 7:30pm. I went to the website to see what they had. I double checked the address. When I got to the Grove location posted on the website they had moved to Patterson. I went to the Patterson location at 7:13pm. The door was unlocked, but the ladt said they closed at 7:00pm. Please update your information on your google business page and your website. I guess it’s a Kroger Ice cream cake.

I always go here and never write a review so I'm doing so now! My mother introduced me to this cute little cupcake shop and I must say these are the best cupcakes around! The price is a little steep but WELL WORTH IT! I haven't had one cupcake from there that I didn't like! My son, mother and I love these cupcakes and I even converted a friend who was a die hard carytown cupcake fan to Pearls! Their service was nice and the girls are wonderful! I even got to meet the owners one time randomly and as busy as they were, they were friendly, kind and talkative! My favorite cupcakes are the carrot cake, plain Jane, black and white, Marilyn Monroe, Lucy in the sky, and THE PEARL! You won't be disappointed people, I PROMISE!

Today was my second trip to Pearl's, after some delicious red velvet and peanut butter chocolate cupcake on my anniversary I decided to try again. I am gluten free due to celiac and have a very difficult time finding baked goods I can eat. I stopped by today and got the GF wedding cake with the raspberry and a couple others. The frosting on the GF strawberry shortcake was literally the best frosting I have ever had with how light and fluffy and delicious it was, the cake of the royal wedding cake was delicious and almost savory while still being sweet and satisfying ! I'm so glad I discovered Pearl's, my GF requirement has become so much more tolerable! Thank you!!

TL/DR: There was an issue with the order (not a simple order, it was gf vegan due to food sensitivities), they quickly corrected the order, gave a full refund, and also delivered them well out of their way. This place not only has top notch baked goods, but also top notch customer service. Highly recommended! Full: Ordered a dozen chocolate gf, vegan cupcakes the other day from here. Due to unknown circumstances the order was misplaced and was not ready in time. The awesome staff at Pearl's was quick to remedy the situation. They offered to make the cupcakes right away, gave a full refund, and even delivered them well out of their local delivery routes. The staff there was kind, courteous, and understanding. They were more than willing to correct this mistake. I left there happy and satisfied that the problem was fixed. I highly recommend this place.

Just wish they'd keep their stock full because if you go in around 3:30/4pm to get a GF cupcake, they're typically out or low which didn't use to happen at their old location on Libbie/Grove.

Having lived right next to Carytown for several years when I first moved to Richmond, I was a big Carytown Cupcakes fan until I found Pearl's. Pearl's is far superior in terms of quality of ingredients, selection (they have something different every day) and importantly- customer service! They are always friendly and helpful, and the cupcakes are always fresh and moist. I'm in there almost weekly getting them for birthdays and have never been disappointed. I think I've converted many friends, too. Keep up the good work!

So these cupcakes are the best I've had in RVA so far, but their resource planning is ridiculous. It's first come first serve on specialty cupcakes and they're always gone by 11am as they make so few. That's not realistic for any working individual. And on Valentines day they said they didn't have the resources to take any orders over the phone to pay and put on hold any cupcakes. I called first thing in the morning to set some aside for my sweetheart so that I couls pick them up after work. I'd been banking on these gems since I started planning last WK. Originally from Houston, cupcakes we're NEVER a problem but this store could take some time to perform a self evaluation and determine how to meet the needs of it's customer base ESPECIALLY on holidays like this!

Can u say IGNORANT STAFF!!!!!,ok here goes I’m from the south stay in NY where great bakeries r a dime a dozen,I called to order a birthday cake for my daughter it usually bakeries have a 24 hour notice so I was right on time,when I called ,bcuz I couldn’t place the order online due to the fact that it wouldn’t take my whole phone number,the staff over the phone advised me that it was a 24 hours notice I said no problem I’ll pick it up 6 tomorrow night which wud have been 12-14-18,she explained to me that it couldn’t be done because the bakers leave after 3,sooooo u mean it technically takes 48 hours in advance not 24,she goes on to explain that they have cakes in their display case,so I asked multiple times r they fresh,no response,I was told that it’s totally up to me to purchase,once again I asked were they sitting there a week how often r they prepared once again,no explanation,so I said if I can’t get an answer then it’s the equivalent to walking into Walmart buying one of their cakes !,it’s disappointing when I deal with a business that has ignorant staff,yes ignorant,if u can’t give proper explanation of the procedures then y do u have a job,I guess social media was their education ,I’ve been looking forward to using this bakery due to the fact I visit often,but after this I doubt it,it makes me wonder how smart and phenomenal the bakers are,something to think about,maybe they can’t read,good luck everyone,maybe I was to CITY&INTELLIGENT for this shop,only the dumb needs to contact them

Wanted cupcakes and looked it up on Google Maps, Pearl's popped up as an option. This place is so cute, the decor makes me think the staff should dress in poodle skirts and polos. The cakes pops are HUGE and only cost $3.00, I bought 3. The lemon was tasty, I also bought 6 cupcakes. They had very cute names like Queen Bee and Sugah, the vanilla one was called Plain Jane (yes I bought it, gotta love a classic). The customer service was very good, 3 different people asked if we needed help.

I walked in there at least 10 employees there.. about 7 in the back..i was not greeted.. one of the employees was on the phone handling an order which i understand, but instead of saying ..ill be right with you.. she looked me dead in the eye and kept talking...i pondered the thought of leaving. .but i decided to grow some patience and look at more things... another customer walks in (caucasian). Was greeted instantly and another employee walked straight up to her and asked get if she needed anything.. completely ignoring the fact that i had been waiting there almost 10 minutes prior...i was completely offended.. the next BLACK OWNED bakery was 16 minutes out and you know what??.I took the drive.. and guess what I was warmly greeted and the customer service was on point and the prices were better..i actually liked Pearls Bakery.. .but after my experience there today I WILL NOT be going back word of advice? Treat all your customers the same..I was actually coming to purchase a big order.. I'm glad to know my hard earned money went elsewhere!

I was very nervous ordering a cake from a bakery I had never tried. The reviews online were good, so I decided to take a chance. My mother is a very selective, bake from scratch woman, so the bar was set high. The lady who took my order so was so helpful and patient with me. She offered some great suggestions and made it a very easy process. We chose the chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream icing and daisies all over. The cake was phenomenal! Wedding Cake - August 2018 Pearl’s (Richmond) saved the day, big time, for me and my husband! We had ordered and paid in full for our wedding cake at the Charlottesville Pearl’s Bake Shoppe. Three weeks before the wedding we found out through the grapevine that the Charlottesville branch closed without notifying us. I called the Pearl’s in Richmond and they were kind enough to honor the contract and even deliver to our venue in Charlottesville. On top of that, the cake itself was so beautiful (see pics), exactly what we had hoped for, and delicious on top of that! Thank you, Pearl's!

We went in on a Saturday. We paid $50.dollars in cup cakes. The lady behind the counter did not say thank you she did not even greet us. The service was bad and the cup cakes were even worse. I recently ordered a Winnie the Pooh cake for my baby shower from Pearl's- aka "the hunny pot cake" according to the staff. It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Everyone loved the cake and complimented it over and over again. My husband is not a big cake person but ate multiple pieces of this cake. It was meticulously decorated- The cake was EXACTLY what I ordered. The staff was very kind and accommodating. I appreciate all of the time, effort and care that went into making my cake. I rarely do reviews, but had to share my experience with Pearl's. Horrible service. They lost my simple cupcake order for this Saturday. I called 4 times, spoke to the manager twice and they still couldn't find it. Despite digital and handwritten tracking system they claim they use, they lost the order. I had ordered yesterday but the girl on the phone kept saying, for Friday. I repeated several times it was for Saturday. I had a bad feeling, and called to confirm this morning just to check. I thought I was going to be on the phone for just a minute, but no, I was on the phone for over half an hour for a simple confirmation. Glad I called or I would have showed up Saturday for nothing. Cancelled the order. Very disorganized business.

Extremely unprofessional! We order our wedding cake and everything was going as planned. A month before the wedding I called to find out final price and make sure everything is as planned. Mary said that because its a holiday weekend even though we had agreed to pay and EXTRA $150 dollars to have it baked and delivered Sunday they won't do it. My only option was to pick up the cake Saturday, take it to the hotel (we live 2 1/2 away from Richmond), keep it in my hotel room, and us bring it to the venue the following day. What kind of suggestion is that?! We don't want to do that, and risk braking the cake. We called back and ask for deposit refund of $180 dollars, they said NO. We suggested to $180 dollars worth of cupcakes and they also said NO. They said we can only get the entire cake worth of cupcakes or no money back. This was the first and last time we contact them. I will never recommend them to anyone, specially to rely on them to supply a cake or any type of sweets for such an important event.

I had ordered my gender reveal cake from here! I didn’t know the gender until the day before they were going to make the cake but they made it happen. Cupcakes are good. Although, our first and very SPECIAL birthday cake was soggy inside and cracked outside. Most noticeably was the uneven cake to icing ratio. I have to say most people even shied away from eating the cake

So I called Pearl's Cupcakes to have a gender reveal cake made for our gender reveal party. When I called I had the representative look up the picture of the design on the cake that I wanted. She looked it up and explained that they could do the design and she would check to see on if they could have it ready by the date I needed it. She came back on the phone and said they could have it done by then so I went ahead with the order. I also got them to dye the inside of the cake so once you cut into it you find out what the gender of the baby is. When asking how big the cake needed to be she explained what sizes would feed the number of people I had coming. We decided on a 9" cake that would feed between 20-25 people. The next day I missed a call and saw it was from them so I called them back. The designer called to tell me that the saying that goes on top of the cake would cover up most of the design and asked if it could be placed on the front of the cake. After hearing this I was very disappointed considering the picture I showed them was just fine with plenty of room to still see the design. That when the lady explained that they were doing a round cake! I had no clue of this and thought that it was going to be the same as in the picture I showed them. When I explained this to them the only answer I received was that she explained it very well that it was a round cake. Well if that was the case I would have said NO and had them change it to the right one I wanted. So now I have the wrong cake with the design and words not even done right. Then when I asked to have another cake made how I wanted she said they didn't have enough time to do another one! I paid 72 dollars to have it done! Then when I asked to speak with the manager she wouldn't come to the phone and the only thing the cashier would do is say she could get her manager to call me back! What a joke! Havent heard from the manager or anyone else! Terrible customer service.

Great customer service experience!!!!! The owner apologized for any inconveniences. The fact that the owner personally came up to me and apologized was shocking and on top of that offered free stuff!!!!! Job well done!!!!! I am, ADDICTED to, Pearl’s Cupcakes!!! My favorites are, the, Dazed & Confused, Double Trouble, and the AMAZINGGGGG, Rocky Road. The flavors are scrumptious!!!! I HAVE to have a cupcake at LEAST every week. Yes, I know, I know, it’s terrible, right? Well, once you’ve tried it once, you’ll be back, AGAIN and AGAIN, and AGAIN!!!! It’s TRULY intoxicating, well, at least I think so. All smiles over here!!! Pearl’s Cupcake is THE BEST go to for your sweet tooth. Waaaayyyy better than Carytown Cupcakes, which I think is overrated. Happy cupcake hunting! Peace and Love!!!

The selection of ready made cakes was limited but it didnt matter...the cake was so delicious! Chocolate cake with raspberry icing. Definitely will be coming back for more!

Went to the new location today. Greeted when I came in. Looked around and two employees offered to help or answer questions. I ordered two little eclairs and then asked if they make the pastry cream in house and she answered yes so I got two more. Wow glad I did. Got 2 peanut butter cookies, 2 chocolate chip and 2 oatmeal. Huge and soft and delicious. Got a small apple pie and a couple of cupcakes but haven’t tried yet. Hope they are as delicious as what we have tasted. Love the new location. Place is larger and parking easier.

I really wanted to find a good cupcake shop in Richmond and per reviews this was best. I'm from NOVA/DC so I'm used to Georgetown Cupcakes, etc. I must say that their cupcakes were exceptional. I am a baker myself so I LOVE cupcake and pastries and their "Top Hat" cupcake was so delicious...perfect! The red velvet was good also. Although the cake was obviously made from the box...the icing was from scratch :-)...but hey it was delicious so no complaints.

Best gluten free wedding cake, cupcakes etc. The cake was fabulous and everything was great. The only issue was the flowers for the cake were not placed but that was no big deal to me, we just arranged them and the cake looked beautiful. Tasted great, my guests didn't know it was gluten free. Thank you Pearls!! Can't wait for our anniversary to have our free cake.

Maybe it was just an off day...but we were disappointed with the cupcakes. We tried a bunch of flavors. While they were very pretty to look at...they were all very dry and unremarkable. I feel bad giving a bad review, but I would never send anyone here. We have a lot of cupcake places in the area. I'd look elsewhere.

My daughter found Pearl's Cupcakes online. When you order from another state, you leave it to chance that it will be what you wanted. My daughter sent a photo of the cake she wanted for my surprise birthday party. It was absolutely perfect in design but the best of all was the taste. The top portion of the cake was Red Velvet and the bottom part was yellow cake. Everyone simply loved the buttery taste and it made me proud to have it with my birthday celebration. Thank you for a wonderful product.

The cupcakes are beautiful and delicious. It wasn't clearly communicated, but even if ordered ahead of time, there is a minimum of 1dozen to guarantee that you will receive a specific variety. For example, I ordered 2 dozen and thought I was getting at least 1 gluten free carrot for the birthday girl but was told on arrival about the one dozen minimum. Had I known I would have ordered a dozen because even gluten free is delicious from Pearl's.

Pearl's customer service was terrible. If you buy cupcakes here and have any problems, good luck trying to get them to care. There are too many companies that make cupcakes to risk the poor customer service that Pearl's provides. I will never use them again.

The cakes do not taste as incredible as hyped to be. I actually found the cupcakes to be a bit hard and dry on the tops. The designs are their saving grace and very intricate. Customer service could use to be improved. Every time I call I get put on hold for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I have gotten tired of holding, called back, and got someone to answer and help me right away. All in all if you are looking for a pretty cake or special design definitely go here... a tasty cake maybe check around

I do not recommend patronizing this business, I am a past employee from the Charlottesville location. I did not work for Laurie, the owner, for very long, and at first had a great impression of her and her business; myself along with other full time employees were told the last day the Charlottesville shop was open we were losing our jobs with no notice, in addition, she delayed to pay us on time with again, no communication between herself and staff of the delay in payment for a staff working overtime hours daily. There are many other nice bakeries in Richmond I would recommend before Pearls.

Pearls just did my wedding 02/24/18. The cupcakes were absolutely delicious! My guest continue to ask me where they were made. I also had a small for cake for me and my husband to cut, with a tribal design since he's Samoan. And my mom surprised us with a bigger cake with his island flag on it. All 3 items were amazing!
