REVIEWS OF Firehook Bakeries IN Virginia

Happy Home

This is a little gem "hidden" on Flint Lee Rd, with no signs on the main road, and I only went there when nearby having work done on my car, and there was no waiting area and the owner suggested I visit the bakery. Firehook is actually a chain, and their model is reduced offerings apparently to keep costs down. When one walks in, it's clear from the open space and the bare concrete floor this was industrial space. The retail aspect has a feel of a reduced commercial enclave one might find in an airport, train station, and the like. There are three small presents with their goods: one tall open wire rack with loaves of bread, a narrow glass case with bread pastries and cookies, and a third narrow glass case with handfuls of tartes and similar, commercially packaged sandwiches, and limited cold drinks. What they have would not pass quality standards anywhere in Europe, for example. Given the desert of baked goods around here, Firehook is a little oasis, and should be marked on your favorites. By design, they have one perky person behind the counter, so what one can expect is somewhat limited by what one person can do. There is a limited selection, with sufficient variety that there is good likelihood something will appeal. They have a handful of coffees, and another handful of teas, packaged in the Firehook brand. There is seating for about a dozen or so, on simple, short metal stools and a bench along one wall. I don't know if anything is made at the location, though the items I tried were fresh enough. This is a local (Washington metro area) company, and they have online ordering. While there, I saw folks picking up what had obviously been ordered previously -- cardboard trays wrapped in plastic. This could be compared to Starbucks - less built. My wife and I much prefer Firehook as a place to sit and enjoy, with better food than Starbucks, and a degree less commercialism, despite being a chain.

Great selection of tasty pastries. Right next to a Ford dealer where I had some service done on my truck. Nice place to wait :)

I dropped my car off at a repair shop a mile away. Since I was spending several hours in the area, I looked on Google Maps and found this bakery. It is hidden from the main road. I love baked goods and was excited to stop here for breakfast. After nearly a mile walk, I was ready for some food. This bakery is located in a business/industrial like area with large garage doors, trucks, ... And not many business names on buildings. When I walked in, I immediately noticed how small and yet spacious this bakery is. It has a nice selection of baked goods from muffins (blueberry, banana nut, chocolate chips, etc...), breakfast croissants (ham and cheese, cheese and eggs, spinach and feta), beautifully decorated sugar cookies, single serving pies, variety of bread, etc... there was only few of each items. Not sure if the items were sold, or that the bakery only sell a limited quantity of each item. You can order cakes. They also sell coffee and small bottles of juices and drinks. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant warmed and a small coffee. There was a good amount of ham in the croissant, but a little too much for my taste. The croissant was the best part, was soft. The ladies working there are very nice. The bakery is very clean. The restroom is next door. You will need to exit the bakery, turn left, and enter the first/second door on your left. The doors were locked but a quiet lady inside let me in. Not sure if she spoke English. There were food and drinks in that room and there were a couple of other ladies and a young child. The room looked like a break room. I enter an area with coats before reaching the bathroom door, and the bathroom was clean. If I'm in the area, I will probably stop by again.

This bakery is ‘only’ good for coffee and snacks. If you are looking to getting birthday cake or any cake, I wouldn’t recommend it at all! And this bakery doesn’t seem to care about their customers. Recently I got a birthday cake for my husband from Firehook Bakery at Chantilly, and the cake was horrible! It was a passion fruit raspberry mousse cake, the cake was supper dry and very sour. My guests and family members were not able to eat the cake at all. The next day I called and talk to the same customer service representative that took my order, and I told him how the cake was really bad and I am planning to throw away half of the cake. Wanted to speak to a manger, of course the manager wasn't available. And a week went by no one emailed or called me about this horrible experience. I was hoping for a good product and service from this place, I was even thinking about recommending this place to friends and perhaps get cakes etc for my company’s functions. Clearly as it seems they don’t want my business, and guess what I am not spending my money and time here ever again. Thankfully we are in Northern VA with many more bakery options, and won’t have to think about Firehook bakery again.

Highly recommend this place. Little hard to find but definitely worth it. Tried many different bakeries all over the Virginia; this place belongs on top.

The bakery offers bread, sandwiches, savory pastries, and a variety of sweet baked goods. There are some packaged crackers and small sweets on the side of the shop. There's an assortment of beverages but the bakery offers simple coffee and a few types of hot tea. The baked goods were all fairly large, but looked super tasty. The chocolate chip muffin, ham & cheese croissant, and sausage/egg/cheese round croissant were all really good. The croissants were flaky on the outside and savory on the inside. The coffee is okay.

Used to grab coffee at the Firehook near my house in Old Town Alexandria. When I moved out of Old Town I was glad to discover this Firehook. So much faster than the Chantilly Crossing Starbucks and their baked goods are MUCH better!

I looove this place. They have the best double chocolate chip muffin, delicious scones and great almond croissant. I wish they had their breads as well displayed as their sweets and pastries, because they are in racks I feel like they are not for sale and don't even stop to look. Also they dont accept phone payment, but that's cool I love their stuff that much

I needed a new windshield and the place sent me across the street to this place. Chocolate Almond Croissant was awesome. Bread is priced a $2.50/loaf.

Amanda Herman

I live about 15 min away so I had never heard of this bakery. But I was getting my windshield replaced across the street and they sent me Firehook's way to wait. The almond croissant was absolutely amazing. Fresh, melt-in-your mouth gooey inside and perfectly flaky outside. The place is cute, if small, and it surprised me how many customers they had being tucked so far into the garage plaza. I will be back, even without needing a new windshield!

As always, was pleasure to be there and buy some breads, coffee and Danish.

just happened to be driving by this out-of-the-way, hard to see little bakery and stopped to discover a new Saturday errand must. This little gem is full of wonders (pastries, cookies, etc) and Saturday is the best day because the bread is discounted to sell so they will not have to throw it away (they are closed on Sundays). I was able to pick any size loaf, with at least 20 different choices, for one bargain price. I chose a huge wheat loaf with a lovely firm crust that is delightfully chewy and flavorful. We were offered a taste of any bread we liked and also given a free item since it was our first visit. The bakery associate was very kind and informative and I will definitely return. They have a coffee bar also ! Please give it a try, very easy to find, just off Rt 50 with one more left and you are there. M-F all day and 8-3 Saturday, see you !
