I love this place! I was a little disappointed this morning when there were no donut sandwiches available and the guy working the counter made me one fresh! The donuts are delicious! I purchased a cupcake today and I have no doubts that it will be amazing as well. I WILL be back and I tell everyone about them!

I loved the flourless chocolate cupcake! It was absolutely decadent! My husband had the sticky bun. I thought it was to dry on the outside for my taste. However, as would be expected, it was most on the inside. I liked that there were vegan options, but I disliked that they were all soy based. I would suggest a almond milk and or coconut milk base option as well for those who don't eat soy products. The staff was quite friendly. The environment was a little cold. Nothing of warmth to soak up the cold outside. Concrete flooring and brick walls. Perfect for summer months. I would recommend this place. There is room for growth, but the bite that I had was delicious.

I love Buttermilk! They have a lot of tasty treats to choose from (donuts, cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls, and much, much more) The people who work here are super friendly and patient while you pick something and change your mind and do that fifty gazillion times over. The treats (Especially the donuts and the cinnamon rolls) are amazing and you can tell they put a lot of care into their food. My only complaint is that I wish they had more options, so, that I can have an even harder time deciding on what I want. The little shop is decorated real cute. It's definitely not a sit down with laptop and enjoy a donut type of bakery as they only have, what? Two tables, I think. And the inside is pretty small, so, everyone will know what you're working on. So, you come here, you take twenty minutes to pick out a donut, and then you leave. Overall, the owners have done an AMAZING job with Buttermilk.

Great local bakery, donuts are to die for. Had a Boston cream which the filling is added at time of order so is not soggy. The plain glazed might be best I ever had. So glad I went here, way better than large chain, premade stuff.

Everything that I have ordered from Buttermilk has been delicious. My favorite doughnut is probably the lemon blueberry. I was impressed when they piped in the creme filling for the Boston Creme doughnuts as they were ordered. My only complaint is you have to be there early before items are sold out.

I went to this shop because I was curious on how their cupcakes tasted. It's literally around the corner of this awesome BBQ place on the main road. When I grab a few cupcakes to bring home, especially their cheesecake one since my husband loves cheesecake, ALL of the cupcakes were gone by tomorrow morning. When I went and got more they were gone mid day with tears in my husband's eyes while he was eating the last cheesecake cupcake. They even make cakes to order as long as they get good enough notice. With this notice it is to make sure it is done right. The love they have for baking shows in their sweets. Definitely recommend this place for dessert after the BBQ place or just in general ♡

I absolutely love this amazing local dessert shop. Their donuts are my absolute favorite in town. It's no wonder why Buttermilk was my first thought when thinking of who would do my wedding desserts. The process was easy and no stress. Laura is awesome to work with and a sweet person all around. I went with a small 2 tiered cutting cake (AMAZING - all our guests ate our cake before we could grab a second piece, haha) and 130 donuts. The place was easy to find and very cute on the inside. The selection of donuts was a little small but it works. The only part I didn't like was the actual donuts. It felt like I was eating a marshmellow. Every donut that we bought was really chewy. My husband thought the same thing. He also got the cheesecake with cherries on top and said it was good but the oreo on the bottom was soggy. I had the flower less chocolate cupcake and that was too much for me. I'm going to have to eat that in portions.

Called and placed an order for 2 cakes a few weeks apart. The first I started off by saying I know this is short notice but... and the girl did not say they were booked up and couldn’t do that one. Hidden gem tucked back in Old Town Petersburg. Always fresh, always delicious, and they even have homemade dog treats for your four legged friends! Come early though, once the fresh is gone for the day, it is gone for the day!

This place has a cute, sweet, and rustic appeal. The items they sell are delicious. The chocolate chip scone was flaky/soft on the inside, and slightly crisp on the outside. The Hummingbird Cake was an experience in itself. This 3-layer cake is moist with smooth cream cheese frosting. There's crunchy nuts and shredded coconut with hints of other flavors that fully complement each other in the mouth. Great experience!

I'm a fan of local businesses and this is one of my favorites. (Thankfully there are many great local businesses in old town.) I remember when they opened. My wife and I tried it and really liked it. We've been there numerous times since they've opened. We've picked up sweets to go, ate in, ordered cakes for special occasions, etc. The staff is always friendly. The price is on comparable to a chain bakery (like Small Cakes). They're very flexible and open to ideas. Is a great place to try. If you try it you'll like than likely keep going back.

Cute and cozy place to get a dessert and enjoy a simple cup of coffee. Prices look high ($3 for a specialty donut), but are extremely good when you consider the quality of what you're getting. Enjoy coming with the family so the little one can pick his own treat for the day. Would encourage them to develop their coffee menu a bit, but for a bake shop they have hit the pinnacle of their craft!!!

Got a pumpkin pie here Christmas Eve. Served it to my family Christmas Day. It was undoubtably the worst pumpkin pie I have ever put in my mouth. On top of that I paid 15 bucks for it. Save your money and go to the Walmart deli. Better price and better Quality.

Cute place, donuts were donuts. I would have given more stars if the staff was more friendly. Nobody said hi when we walked in or when we got to the counter. The guy finally said, "what can I get for you" after about a minute of us standing in front of him at the counter. The lady who checked us out wasn't anymore friendly. When she came out she also didn't say hi & just went right into, "have you been helped? What can I get you?" A smile and a hello to start would be great! Their donuts are stacked up way high so you can't really see what they offer. You have to be able to read or know what the ingredients are - definitely not something my 4 year old can do. Even with a chair she was only able to see the bottom 2 rows of 4 of the donuts. They did offer lots of baked goods including some vegan options. Unfortunately all of the vegan options have soy in them :( Aquafaba!!! Or other egg replacements is so much better and non carcinogenic! Anyways, we spent waaay more than anticipated $26 for a dozen donuts + a cinnamon roll & 2 specialty donuts that don't taste much different than the cheap Asian donut shop that you can spend about $10 less for the same thing. If they were more friendly we would consider making it a special treat from time to time even with the cost, but you really just can't get past feeling like a number to people with no customer service skills.

1st and last time. I brought 4 cupcakes. two lemon, vanilla and a strawberry. The icing was extremely good except for the vanilla icing. it lacked the vanilla taste. Moving on the cupcake itself. Dry and tasteless. It taste and felt like i was eating a week old cupcake. Since i brought a lemon cupcake i expected the cupcake to be lemon. Meaning lemon cake and lemon icing. but no it was a plane dry cupcake with no flavor in the cake batter same for all the other ones too. I even got my mother opinion on them and she said the same thing. i really had high hopes for this place.

Took one bite of the peanut butter mousse parfait and needed a moment to praise God for his plenteous wonders and undeserved mercy in my life. And I’ve been back and forth with my religious beliefs for a while now, but it’s amazing how one dessert can put things into perspective for you. Anyways, I digress... To break this down as best as possible (I’m no expert): This bad boy comes in a (pint sized?) plastic container with a lid on and is served chilled. 4 layers... 1 of moist chocolate cake, then 1 of soft and succulent peanut butter mousse, then more cake, then more mousse, then crunchy li’l chocolate balls of goodness sprinkled on top. They were playing Radiohead when I walked in, too. Bonus points. I would have loved some milk to go with it, but wasn’t about to pay $2 for it. That’s prob not an issue for most people. I’m just cheap. Overall, I’m not sure a better place for desserts exists on Planet Earth. I’d need to return several times to be completely sure of that... and I just might even though I live an hour and a half away. But there are so many things to choose from here, and they all look fantastic. I had to ponder my decision for several minutes while others went before me. I def chose wisely. No doubt you will too.

Think of this place as sort of a gourmet donut type of shoppe. The prices of the items may shock a first time customer. For example, normal sized cupcake is about $2.50 a piece, at the time that I wrote this. I haven't tried them, but I have tried several different types of their donuts, and they are great!! Why did I rate them 4 stars then? The various donuts are a 5, but the prices are a little steep, so I feel that rates a 2. I probably would frequent them more often if it wasn't for the prices. I probably purchase from there once every 3 months, but if the prices were a little lower, I might go there once every couple of weeks, or once a month. I really feel that everyone should try their plain donuts at least once.

Buttermilk Bake Shop is a wonderful place to go to enjoy yummy donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Recently they took care of my daughter and son-in-law's wedding. We had blueberry, lemon and glazed donuts; we also had gluten free cupcakes and a small 6" wedding cake. They did an outstanding job. Everything was delivered on time, the food was fantastic and very yummy. The donuts were so light and tasty where it almost melted in my mouth. As you can see in the picture of cutting the cake, several donuts had already disappeared. Thank you to Laura and the team for doing a great job!

A great place for baked goods. They always have something unique to offer. And they have vegan cupcakes, cookies, and donuts! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Happy to have this place in the area.

Good pastries but they should have a call in for large donut orders. When you just want one or two donuts but you're waiting behind someone who wants 3 dozen and they take almost every donut they have, that's rediculous. That leaves none for the rest of us. A better system would be nice.

I had my wedding last month and picked Buttermilk Bake Shop the month beforehand due to my other baker going MIA. I was so cautious after that, but they more than exceeded my expectations. From the first tasting, they were wonderful. They worked with us to stay within my budget and moved things around to work. We decided on donuts and a lemon cake and it was AMAZING. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was. 10/10 recommend! We plan to come back every year on our anniversary to get a cake.
