A great diner! It is an established main stay for the area. Welcoming atmosphere. The bacon is great in addition to the pancakes and french toast. The restaurant is always almost full. Has an ease into the morning feel.
A wonderful place. A favorite among locals for a million years, and very easy to get to from Hwy 89. Excellent service and food, at good prices. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner - all great.
They always have great food.
Service was good but food was meh. Ordered a fruit cup for the kids and it was fruit cocktail. The peas/carrots came from a can. Even the chicken pot pie tasted like it had condensed chicken soup. Disappointed they didn't use more fresh ingredients.
We got walked to our table, & there was relish on it, it was far from clean. What a shame. I love that place at one time!!!!
For the first time in way over 20 yrs I can honestly say horrible ! Young guy waiter was terrible .All he talked about was having blood test today and all the illness he might have...we ordered he didnt bring our soup finally we asked again for it then we ordered the special rack of ribs fries and cottage cheese...30 mins later got the cold food no rolls and no cottage cheese..untill we asked again, which he brought cold sales, told him food was cold all he said was it's a rough night! The place wasn't even packed. My husband was anger so I wouldn't let him say more because he would of lost its Anyway $37.50 and we left .Very disappointed
Went in on Friday night and it was busy, but was waited on quickly, food came out quickly and was good. Dessert was awesome, the peanut butter ice cream pie with hot chocolate sauce was unreal!! Has prime rib dinner, lemonade and ice cream pie for under $20. You can't beat that!
While it has great hours the menu is tired. Everyone wants the old stand by, nobody wants the has been. The waits staff is warm and welcoming and efficient. Menu needs to have lighter fare.
First time here. Heard great things about this place and had to experience it myself. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. I would recommend this place to my family and friends. I will be returning to enjoy the home cooked meal.
Fast service and delicious food, there was a line out the door when we got there and we got seated within 5 minutes and service and food were perfect!
Visited for dinner. I ordered a boiled dinner and it was terrible. The meat was grey, the veggies were literally mush without any taste whatsoever. Another in the party ordered liver but seemingly, they only had shoe leather in the kitchen, so that was served instead. The mash potatoes were really bad too. If I was the chef in there, I would be very disappointed with my skills in serving people that. The complaint went totally over the guys head as well. I hear breakfast is great, unfortunately I will pass.
Good food great service
Wayside is a perfect classic diner. You want find many adventuresome dishes, espresso, or a strong commitment to local farms. But you will find pleasant coffee, breakfast all day, and reasonable prices. It's not my favorite breakfast location in the area, but they are very good at what they do. If you are looking for a traditional non-froofy diner meal, you will love the Wayside.
Great food and prices. Also the service and atmosphere is genuine. Highly recommend
Great down home cooking for a fair price. Service is great.
Best cod sandwich I've ever had. Their homemade rolls make the sandwich awesome!
This place isn't going to win a James Beard award, but it will win your heart down home cooking and kitschy retro decor.
The food is always amazing. The frosting on the cake is the friendly services. They make you feel at home.
Best diner in Vermont as far as I'm concerned! I love the weekly specials and everyone is so friendly.
Absolutely love the Wayside. Great food, great staff and great prices. Love that my grandparents loved this place and now I can bring my children :)
Awesome food & great service!
Was not impressed. Little tubs of pre-packaged syrup, and cold butter for pancakes. Food was OK, but they are more interested in profits than quality food.
The breakfast and coffee are out of this world. (Im hard pressed to think of a place where Ive had better coffee in VT) Service is always incredibly friendly and the price is on point, they could even charge a bit more in my opinion. All that said, the lunch/dinner food and service is awful. Servers that dont check in, foul tasting and cold dishes. Half the time you arent even given the entire order until you ask. If the breakfast experience wasnt so good, It'd be a 2-3 star spot. Just make sure to get there before noon!
Homey atmosphere and great down home cooking. Had our grandson's 16th birthday party there tonight and the staff was so accommodating. I brought in a homemade cake and they delivered it to our table and sang! A plus to our waitress. Thank you.
Food just like grandma cooked and they treat you like family too. Love going to this place
Very good foods delicious
Been loving it since age 14
I hadn't been to this place since I was a child. It brought back a lot of memories. The food was just as good as I remembered.
Hometown diner. Reasonable priced meals. Friendly staff. Just a great place to relax with the family and have breakfast.
Had breakfast.veggie omelet was hot cooked hot veggies coffee fresh.keep up the goodness here.the people with me was satisfied also
Great food, good prices. Home cooked meals
Two of the three of us hot very sick after eating there. We were fine before hand. My mother bought a pie home and it was not horrible but not good. Never again. .
Very nice service and good home food. Had dinner and breakfast there and loved it!
The food was good, but not special. The service was kinda quick but nothing to be excited about. Inexpensive, at 4PM 3 of us ate from the daily specials for about $35, including the tip.
We love the Wayside Restaurant! Its central Vermont location makes it a great place to dine with visiting family and friends. Did I mention their fabulous pies? Try them!
This restaurant was recommended by many, I thought my order was simple enough French toast eggs over medium sausage and bacon. I took a few bites of the bacon sausage and French toast it was delicious. But when I cut into the eggs and the white was runny I lost my appetite. The waitress offered to fix it, but I've learned as a fast service employee, you never send anything back. The cashier asked me how my food was I said not very good. Don't ask if you don't want to know. The only concern was did the waitress offer to fix it. I expected get one or two dollars off my bill, but no. This was my third visit the first time I didn't get a roll with my dinner, The waitresses more concerned about giving her kids dinner rolls then she was a paying customer. I will not go back.
This place is great for fast breakfast service! Lots of homemade desserts if you save room. The home fries are a must if you're having breakfast, but they do also serve lunch and dinner. The hot turkey sandwich is fantastic for a later meal. If you see a line at the door, don't worry! The line moves quick, there is lots of space (tables) inside and the service is fast.
Love going here for breakfast.
Good food friendly staff
Old timey diner feel
Comfort food at its best!
Reasonable prices, tasty food!
Great food and service
Always great food at a great price! Great family atmosphere as well.
Always love it for breakfast. Their lunch menu is decent.
At-home atmosphere with friendly staff and great food
Great for a home cooked meal. It's hard to beat comfort food at such an affordable price. Great atmosphere and staff. Weekly specials and a huge menu was also great.
The atmosphere was pleasant, the food was excellent, and the portions were really good. The waite staff were attentive and Friendly. I'd definitely eat there again and recommend it to anyone else dinning in the area.
Classic roadside diner with good food. My husband said the pot roast was better than his mother's. Every time we passed by, there parking lot was full, so we gave it a try. My only complaint is that the menu wasn't clear about which items come with sides.
Always excellent food and excellent prices. Homemade food yum
A true family restaurant, with great food..
I so appreciate everything about the Wayside. Unpretentious, generally yummy, cheap, kind service. Breakfast is great and the specials for dinner are usually good.
Great service, good food
Their home cooked meals are truly good Vermont cooking just like my grandma made.
Homey and comfort food Vermont style. Ordered the fish & chips, it was good. The service was fast considering it was a full restaurant.
This place is always amazing. It would be easy to give you 101 reasons to go to the Wayside, but you have to experience the Wayside Restaurant for yourself. How many other eateries can you name that have survived 101 years and have such a loyal following.Besides Wayside has Moxie!!!
So much to say, just top notch for a restaurant. Staff, Food atmosphere.
Quick, particularly since it was really busy with a line out the door, good food, and nice service staff.
Food service is fast, the food however has gone down hill and prices have gone up. But still good home cooking
I had the maple glazed pork chops and they were excellent. Husband had baked haddock and he said it had a good flavor and was very meaty. This restaurant is also a great value ( lots of food for a fair price)! I also can highly recommend the sugar free Blackberry pie. This restaurant was well worth the wait!!
Classic breakfast place, when the food wasnt quite hot enough it was cheerfully and quickly remedied. Nice place
Great, Good food, fast service with a smile, reasonably priced
We enjoyed out breakfast for supper.... Service was great, food was hot, made to order, and delicious....
Awesome food and service. Great prices and variety on menu.
Great food, cheap prices although slightly smaller portions than normal but let's be honest, that's probably a good thing. Bakery goods are great! Highly recommend any menu items with bread... Freshly made! Service was nice. Super old-timey feel, but they are celebrating their 100 year anniversary in 2018. Clean bathrooms.
Always have the pot roast. Today the pot roast veggies ate small and the servings of meat is much smaller. Great job at getting us seated together. Waitress brought out a meal where the meat was way to done asking if we wanted it sent back when she should have sent it back and never brought it out to begin with. Rolls were good.
The fame of this restaurant is absolutely well deserved. It is a classic place and a "must" if you are visiting this region. The famous apple pie is simply delicious. I loved the atmosphere of the place and the families gathering to enjoy a good lunch or dinner. Nice location, good service and reasonable prices.
Super delicious old timey food and portions were great. Prices were shockingly low for so much! Friendly and helpful staff.
Love their home cooked meals & great prices
Great service and products!!
As much as we come here, we know at least 3 servers that are very nice. Happy, & smiles when greeted. Employees should never complain in present of customers. Should serve 2 maple syrups. Not one and charge for a second. If you don't like your job, find one that suites you.
Excellent food kind courteous staff
I )love this place great food and service
Good food, good prices, good times!
How can you go to Vermont and not mention the Wayside. Absolutely classic Vermont establishment. The food is simple but delicious, home cooking at its best. The price cannot be beat... I often bring people from out of state to the Wayside and everyone leaves happy.
Great diner food. If you're gluten free there are a few items on the menu including French toast with real VT maple syrup. Check out the daily specials for the best deals. Quick service.
Great food and good prices
Decent and reliable. There's always a line, but it's still quick to get in and out.
Lots of choices on the menu, great daily specials and wonderful owners!
Nice place and the wait staff are very friendly.
Great food, even better milkshakes!
The food is fresh and delicious. The price is right. The atmosphere a diner from a simpler time. No need to tell locals. The Wayside is busy all day.
Good food
Nice place with lots of locals enjoying their dinner too. The maple pie is delicious and well worth the trip.
Awesome place! Very cozy with a diner feel to it. Their breakfast sandwich was amazing. All of their breads are homemade at their restaurant and are incredible. You can also call ahead to order pies, cakes, and other baked goods. Their rolls were so good we got some to take home. They just celebrated their 100 year anniversary! The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Good. Nice. People
Love this restaurant (opened in 1918) good local foods...just wish they made their own hash
We come here often - LOVE it! Great family food, real waitresses, large portions, great prices, folks really care.
This place hasn't been open for 100 years for nothing. It's an excellent place to eat, visit or just have coffee at the counter. If you're willing to sit at the counter chances are you won't have to wait but to eat an excellent homecooked meal (with all the homemade rolls your heart desires) you may have to wait a few minutes.. But it is so worth the wait. YUMMY! IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT...
I like to come here with my sons for the old authentic diner atmosphere. Typical American diner fare. Nice staff, organised dining. room. Fast service.
Amazing, service fast and a fun time all aroun
Best breakfast place around. Very popular restaurant so be mindful of when you would like to go eat there. Food is excellent
Has been the best restaurant in the Barre Montpelier area for many years. A must stop when I am back visiting the area.
Always a great meal. Some older staff can be standoff-ish but its a great down to earth place that reminds us of the old restaurant in movies
Classic diner experience! This place is always a good time. A hot spot with a large dining area that is regularly packed, lots of comfortable booths and a wait staff that treats you like family. Usually only one beer on tap, but what they do have is fresh and suits the food perfectly. And they have Moxie! Wonderfully child friendly.
Delicious food! Blueberry pancakes for brunch today! Great atmosphere and great service!
There is no way to go wrong at the Wayside. Fresh homemade rolls are the highlight of every meal. And the prices on the menu cannot be beat. There is something for everyone, from breakfast to dinner. The seating is comfortable and ample. The owners strive to make sure everyone leaves with a smile on their face. You can even take homemade goodies home with you. There's a reason they've been around so long. treat yourself!
Went for kind of a late breakfast. Very good.
Wayside is a very nice place to dine...whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Most staff are friendly, smile, understanding when asked questions, and attentive. The food is good and prices are very appropriate for what you get. I try to frequent there as much as possible ... Rick
Friendly service, large menu, seasonal specials, homeade cooking & great pricing.
Thank you so much, you made my day! What an excellent meal!
Busy but food and waitress was excellent. 101 years in operation, love the place
The food was very good and the service was great. Really enjoyed the time I spent there.
Good old diner, good selection and fair prices.
Great food and service.
An AWESOME breakfast of 2 PERFECTLY Poached eggs atop a generous bed of corned beef hash, 2 slices of whole wheat toast, fresh HOT grilled potatoes, and a bottomless cup of fresh coffee... $10.08 TAX INCLUDED!
It's a diner for sure. Food is fair but not the best I have ever had. Prices are pretty good. I wish the food was a little less processed and more fresh and homemade.
Great for breakfast. Also, they have their own root beer, which is worth the stop for lunch alone. Also, they carry Moxie!
The service was great and the food even better:-)
I love Wayside for breakfast food - their eggs and home fries are always delicious! I'm not a coffee drinker, but my family loves the taste of their coffee. I love the dessert specials as well; I'm looking forward to eating my slice of cheesecake pie!
Great rolls great service and delicious milkshakes
Good, solid food served In super cozy atmosphere by incredibly friendly people. Highly recommended - well worth a little jaunt off the freeway.
Loved it! Great waitress, paid attention to us and was very friendly! Great breakfast!
As close to mom's cookbook as you can find on the road
Its ok i wish they had less hair in there food
Went to Vermont for a visit and just had to go to the Wayside. Great food and service. Awesome specials and reasonable prices.
The service was good. The food was ok.
This was a cute little diner with good prices. I just stopped through for a quick dinner on my drive to my campground for the weekend. They had me in and out if there in no time but didn't rush me at all. I did try the apple pie with Cheddar since I know this a Vermont specialty, I definitely didn't understand it. I also tried their centennial champagne and I do think it was awesome I got to have champagne at a diner and even cooler it was for their anniversary. Over all maybe next time when I'm back in Vermont I'll try it again.
Great reasonably priced breakfasts. Real VT treasure.
Awesome old school dinner!
Yummy food, great prices and our waitress was excellent. So nice and that means a lot. Sometimes even more than the quality of the food
We love the Wayside! It's down home cooking with some old fashioned Vermont items as well as GF and vegetarian choices. Breakfast is wonderful.
Miss living over in vt. So drove over just to have dinner again.
Awesome diner - restaurant, especially if you like breakfast for lunch or dinner !
great food great service year after year.
A great Vermont diner with hearty, unpretentious food. Daily specials & they do a lot of their tree own baking. Moderately priced.
Generic diner food, always the same quality. The wait staff has gone downhill though, service is pretty poor.
Always amazing service, plus delicious meals. Pie is always delicious as well!
Old fashioned restaurant. Comfort food and daily specials. Turkey dinner and fish chowder was great.
Great and reasonable food. Friendly wait staff
Ok food good service good for the
Always great food and service
Staff is friendly and the service is quick
Great place to eat with delicious food. Atmosphere was welcoming.
Yummy tunna fish flavored icecream. Cant find anywhere else!!
Solid diner experience. The service is excellent and the owner is really proud of his place and stands behind it. The food is good, but not exceptional. Also some quirky Vermont food options like cheddar and pie. Great value.
A throw back to local eateries of old. Pot Roast dinner. $8.50. W/soup, taters and veggie sides. Great wait staff. Find it.....love it.
Our lunch was delicious , we will be back soon !!!
