REVIEWS OF 1886 Cafe & Bakery IN Texas

Emily Docherty

Great brunch spot! I loved the food, coffee, and atmosphere. I agree with some of the reviews that the staff doesn’t smile much, but I could be mistaking that for professionalism, which is a quality this cafe definitely has.

Jacilyn

Being a huge breakfast fan, I am so glad I found this restaurant. They serve the best potatoes and sausage. My boyfriend got the eggs Benedict and cheese soup which I stole a little bit from his plate (also very yummy!). The meal overall was high quality, it came quickly, all in a quaint little space. Can’t wait to visit Austin again! And more specifically cannot wait to visit here again :)

Paul Dejean

Expensive but worthwhile.

Huseyin Inan

Authentic place looks European. Quality food and good service.

Kazu Takiguchi

Classic breakfast place.

Denise Kulak

In Austin, have breakfast here!

Joe Kim

Lovely breakfast

Gordo's Twin

Ordered chocolate croissant, bowl of fruit, bacon, french fries, grapefruit juice, the juice was some sweetened concentrate nonsense. Was expecting better. Server was kind of a ditz. The type that didn't write our order down and wasn't aware of which items were available and which weren't, causing me to change my order. Had little social tact, and was easily flustered. Maybe she was just giving me mediocre service because I'm a rapper guy and wasnt dressed like the other brunch clientele. I still left an overly healthy tip, mostly out of pity for her.

John Little

Very nice. Solid in fact. Solid

Lilly M. Neal

You can get food at the counter and take it to go if the wait is too long. Covered outdoor seating in an interesting old building. Strawberry croissant had filling, and the cranberry scone was delicious.

Joel Calvin

Wonderful food, fresh fruit, friendly staff. Great for early morning breakfast, recommend making reservations.

Jeanne Wilson

Lovely smallish cafe in the Driscoll hotel, smack in the heart of downtown Austin. The service was good, and friendly, and the food was delicious. It's priced on the high side, and if you plan to use their valet, that will run you $14 + tip. But its worth it!

Edgardo Rodriguez

Delicious food with great service

Jason Gamble

Nice restaurant with great service and great food!

isy Maldonado

Amazing food, excellent service, great historic atmosphere! Worth the price! My kids actually cleaned their plates, which is rare and the quality of food was high.

rick cahan

Excellent food and service

june Wanlass

Delicious pastries and flavorful food!

Ryan Rosprim

Killer spot for brunch in an appropriately historic setting. The Croque Madam is worth it, but don't skip the Texas sized cinnamon rolls, they're a meal in themselves but great for sharing. You can dine in the cafe and see the baker's toiling away at yummy baked goods or even dine in the lobby under one of the many portraits of Austin scene of yore.

Christopher Hardwick

Single handedly the best chocolate cake i have had in ages. True austin spirit, no firm dress code. But a fancy place.

Stratton Graves

Delicious. Very gracious hosts. Excellent food. Croque Monsieur and Eggs Benedict were great. Excellent server. Very accommodating to my two younger children as well.

Vickie Gray

The best waffle I've ever had! The eggs were perfect. This historic totally Texas hotel was wonderful!

Shuronda Robinson

Eggs and really greasy link sausage with little flavor. I remembered really liking them but was a bit disappointed in the breakfast.

Grady Drew

Arrived today for an early business lunch and the host/waitstaff ignored us. We had to ask to be seated after waiting for a while. Our server paid very little attention to us, and didn't even fill our coffee. The food was decent, but not worth the hassle... perhaps my next trip (if I ever go back) will be a better one.

Matt Michaels

Quaint historic can, great pastries and breakfast fare!

Byron Attridge

Great food and cool atmosphere!

Dr. Tobias S. Witte

Great breakfast with fast service.

Adam Higbee

Big giant cinnamon bun. What's not to love

Tyler Baillie

Fancy hotel breakfast. Eggs taste the same if you pay $2 or $10 for them.

Daniel Chen

This is my go to place for downtown breakfast. They got a great bakery and coffee setup if you are on the run. I recommend the cinnamon roll. It's the size of your face and good for sharing. If you want to sit down and eat their hot menu is great and so is the service. If you are there for lunch you have to try their burger. I don't think it gets enough exposure. It's not cheap. There's p Terry across the street for that. It's one of the top burgers in the city for me.

Joel Mounts

Fancy but affordable. Superb plating and fast service. Very professional crew.

Michele Schmidt

Awesome place and great desserts!!

Heather Hall Lane

Great food options. Neat atmosphere

Joneen Fuller

Very fancy, great food and funky room.

Karen Doerr Basalla

I had one job: find my tech challenged parents a brunch place in a new city within walking distance. “It would be nice if they had cinnamon rolls”. Not exactly a filter item. BUT I WON THE MORNING with 1886. Everything was perfect from the atmosphere, delicious food and amazing service despite the bustling scene. Reasonably priced for the experience. We loved it so much we came back again a few days later and have recommended it to fellow travelers. If you don’t have time to sit, many of tremendous pastry items are available to go. And THE COFFEE was the stuff of heaven.

Michelle Villarreal

Great last lunch in Austin. Coconut cauliflower soup was amazing!

Jason Akers

It was okay. Pretty decent brunch menu. Seating was a little close and you could hear other tables conversations and vice versa

Dave Swain

Cool day and but wanted to sit outside, asked the front and they said ask for a to go. Went to the back and he said no problem I'll deliver on a plate. Had the mac and cheese brisket with a Shiner beer. I was there on a Tuesday around noonish. Amazing service and food. Made it to the airport on time with a satisfying meal on 6th street. Thanks!

Ari Perelman

The food was great. 5 stars. However, all the staff was unhappy and the hostess was rude. No one smiled. When everyone is unhappy, it seems like that culture is coming from management. Could be 5 stars with friendlier people.

Mary Lantz

Hands down, the best cream cheese pastry I have ever eaten. Great food! The room gets a little loud and the tables are a little small but this place has charm and history that you don’t find anywhere these days.

Justin Muskopf

Heavily breakfast oriented, and not much variety in the lunch menu. The breakfast and coffee were both phenomenal, however!

Fabian Dohmes

Favorite breakfast place. Waiter didn't even flinch when I asked for Huevos Rancheros the way they used to make them, with the tortillas at the bottom. (I'm usually not this high maintenance but crunchy tortilla over Huevos? No thanks!). Outstanding customer service!

Jose Rivz

Amazing bakery and breakfast!

Terry M

In Austin on Business and stayed at The Driskill, a landmark Hotel. Inside the Hotel is the 1886 Cafe, decided to have lunch out of convenience. What a great find! I enjoyed the Smoked Salmon Sandwich; sliced salmon stacked on an open faced marble-rye bread and topped with avocado, alfalfa sprouts, tomato jam and a sunny-side up egg. Served with Sweet potato fries and a house made pickles.

Tony Smith

What a cool, comfy, eclectic little place! It was so nice to be in the hustle and bustle of downtown Austin but feel like the world slowed down for a bit in the cafe. The atmosphere is awesome. It's so cool to see their onsite bakery making lots of different things. And the lattes are awesome! Would definitely recommend and will be returning the next time I'm downtown.

Suzanne Garner

Delicious food and great service in a beautiful historic setting. There was a problem with the valet service or I would have given it 5 stars.

Perry Neuroth

Really cool place and a great selection of items. We loved it.

Amy Kugali McWilliams

Can I live here? I absolutely love this restaurant! My favorite is to come to Sunday brunch and sit outside (weather permitting). It's such a fun spot to people watch and the food and staff are both wonderful. You can also pop in and get a great cup of coffee to take out as well. Delicious eggs Benedict.

David Pierce

A little underwhelmed to be honest. The huevos racheros were too salty to enjoy. The cinnamon bun was OK but definitely on the dry side; I've had better at several other places.

steve harriss

If you come to Austin I'd recommend brunch at the Driskill

Miranda Vining

Great brunch spot! Get there early to avoid waiting

LIZ MASSEY-HENSON

OMG love this place!!! Stepped in histort & part of the old West!

Eda Gümüşdereli

This is our fav place to have a breakfast in Austin. It has a historical atmosphere and delicious options.

Paul H

Good good and good service in a nice seeing

Kaley Burch

The breakfast menu is top notch. So many great options to choose from. Everyone in our party was happy with the food. The cafe is in a beautiful hotel, so the atmosphere is good as well. The waiter was super friendly. 10/10 experience!

Ursala Waqar

Love this place !! The desserts are so good !!!

Ron Jongbloed

Great breakfest luxery atmosfhere

brad fox

fantastic place, great bakery, you can watch them make the deserts, went there for brunch and everything was awesome.

Jasveen Kaur

Not good service at all. Came with a group of ten girls and did not have anyone help us out. Waiters have attitudes.... A manager came over to say we were loud but clearly there are people around us who are louder. Overall i felt uncomfortable, the manager was rolling his eyes at us. As someone who works in HR, you need to train your employees and the manager on shift. Learn about customer service and how to make your customers comfortable not uncomfortable. Honestly we should receive an apology for this behavior. Way to set the tone.

saturday schroder

This place is surprisingly very dog friendly. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the lobby seating area of the Driskill. We came for breakfast, and the food was amazing. Everything was super fresh and made to perfection. The space is pretty small, so it fills up quickly during peak times.

Nicole Wescoe

The service and food were both excellent, as were the hot coffee and cold brew. While things were a bit pricey, it is definitely worth it for a good brunch.

Heajoon Yim

Food is very delicious. Worthy to wait. Interior is luxurious and historical. Best brunch cafe in Town.

Maggie Maxwell

Horrible service. Rude wait staff, especially for a high end restaurant. We sat for 35 minutes without being served and was met with rude snarky remarks after asking to order. Ending up leaving. Heard from other people the food was very sub par.

Emily Brown

LOVED it here. The cafe is attached to the lovely Driskill Hotel. Amongst me and my friends, we ordered the quiche Lorraine, turkey BLT, The hangover omelet, a mocha latte, and an almond milk latte. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and have raved about it still days later. I'm so happy we walked past this cafe the night before and, after being intrigued by the atmosphere through the windows, decided to come here for breakfast the following day :) oh also-- we hear their cinnamon rolls are amazing! Our Uber driver recommended them haha (wasn't in the mood to order something that sweet, though:))

Mary Ellen DeLong

Always love their brunch and the Christmas tree in the Driskill. It is a real treat going there!

Matthew C

Best French Toast I’ve ever had.

Stacie Graves

Beautiful atmosphere, lovely food! They served and seated us quickly and were very courteous. We ordered Croque Monseuir and Eggs Benedict and couldn't decide which was better. So good!!

Mike Anderson

Great breakfast and Coffee in a historic and beautiful building.

Anthony Matthews

Came here for a Saturday brunch and got the 1886 croissant to start. Honestly one of the best croissants I've had. Very fresh and the sweet buttery taste was amazing. For my meal I got the Texas Pecan Waffle and it was good. It's nothing special, just your typical waffle with fruit. The jam ruins the flavor a bit, so I would recommend taking that off. The syrup was watered down. Would be a 5/5 if it weren't for the syrup and the jam! The service here was decent. Overall, I was satisfied. I'd probably come back again.

Jade Daugherty

Food was simple and phenomenal. Great flavors. Great service. Would definitely go here again.

Bryan Espinoza

I really love this place. The food is great, the service is good and the prices are affordable.

Claudia Fazzio

Love it, food great beautiful place

Queen T

Beautiful! Service and food were impeccable! Will certainly be back!

Gregory I.

Great croissants. Really good. Lackluster eggs, standard bacon, standard potatoes. Really good ricotta pancakes with real maple syrup. Service at 7am seemed a bit unprepared and it wasn't busy the entire time we were seated. Beautiful surroundings, but missing opportunities on the simple foods that my tween daughter could cook as good. Potential for better.

Michael Raia

Wonderful place. Great food and service, albeit sometimes just a little slow if busy. The atmosphere is so charming.

Cori Silvester

Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how great this place is! Great atmosphere, great service and the food is just amazing. If you like cheese soup you must order the soup with the story! Definitely worth it!!

digplants .

The coffee was decent, I had a croissant but it was a little under cooked in the center(just made it really sweet). Otherwise it was great. I saw some oatmeal that looked awesome.

Lacy Rae

Great breakfast place downtown

Jennifer Mallett

Fantastic brunch menu. The food all around was amazing. I had the Hippy Hash and my girlfriend had the quiche . The Bloody Mary was on point. Service was quick and friendly. Next time we are in Austin we will be back.

Rebecca Samples

Went in for a quick dinner before an event we were attending. Although the restaurant only had 1 other table when we arrived (a few more tables came in while we were there) the service was not on par with what I expected it to be. The food was good and brought out in a timely manner but when we were ready to pay and leave the server brought us 2 other checks that were not ours and then accidentally overcharged our credit card by $10. This took around 15 minutes to correct-a manager eventually arrived to take care of the situation and she did apologize to us be we felt that things definitely needed to be "tightened up". I work downtown and it is highly unlikely I will return or recommend this restaurant.

David Pezzano

The food was fantastic and my server Patrick was extremely attentive and friendly, especially for early in the morning. They had to make a last minute menu substitution and even that was delicious.

Edgar Covarrubias

The best breakfast in downtown Austin. Fancy place and also historic. First level service, friendly and awesome staff. The food is delicious, the portions are big and the price is competitive. Highly recommended!

Spring Rouch

This place is beautiful and our server Patrick was great the food delicious we had breakfast and the brisket skillet was amazing!!

Shawn Lein

Came for Sunday brunch. The Hangover burger is quite possibly the best burger I've had in Austin. The chili-rubbed bacon is incredible and they actually char grilled the meat to a perfect medium- rare (something I'd yet to find when ordering burgers in the area). The service was wonderful, attentive and pleasant as well.

Ashley Keefer

Beautiful, timeless bakery with wondeful chocolate cake and hot teas. Love the glass where you can see the creations being made.

Kathleen

In the Driskill Hotel in Austin. Very nice with good menu selections and prices. Would go back.

Adam Hemminger

Brunch was incredible! The Texas waffle with fresh fruit was my favorite

Kylie Forsyth

My boyfriend and I went here for breakfast on a three day trip to Austin, we ate at many great places but this was hands down the absolute best. The food was impeccably prepared and the flavor was exciting and unique. If you haven't tried this place yet I highly recommend putting it at the top of your list!

James Hicks

Great food but a little pricey.

Brent Barnard

The interior and history are unmatched. Simply scintillating with an antique stained-glass interior. My Fredericksburg French Toast was pretty good too. It was slightly uncooked - the batter oozed into my mouth with each bite - but the ambience made up for it. And great customer service.

Haskell Moore

Fantastic food in a gorgeous restaurant. Really a killer burger!

Jon Pennington

Good service and amazing food. The breakfast fried chicken was incredible!

Christina Mai

Located in the Driskill hotel. Wonderful food and a very friendly staff.

Natali Arco

Incredible food! Incredible options for vegetarians and in the heart of Austin, inside one of the most historic buildings in American history.

Jeb Syler

Excellent breakfast, better service. My server was very attentive and surprisingly, Texan. Hard to find us in ATX these days.

Chelsea Heaivilin

Exceptional service and the food is very delicious! Great place to eat! Make sure to try the side of toast!

Kevin Holland

Great food and good service. Clean plated! Highly recommend the Croque Madamé. Beautiful building.

Lutz Koch

I enjoyed a meal called Croquet Madame. It was unbelievable delicious. My table neighbors wanted to change their order when they saw my plate. They knew right away, that they wanted to have it too. If you stay in Austin, this is a must see an eat. Enjoy.

Patrick Johnson

The Texas waffle was visually appealing and tasty.

Greg Mangiaracina

This place has limited hours. You cannot checkin your hotel room until 3 or 4pm, and they close at 2:30 which dont make sense. The best thing on the menu is the duck fried chicken with honey but it's not available on the weekend. Ridiculous! Won't be going back anytime soon until they change these ridiculous policies. Too bad

Michael Clark

Very good breakfast. It's served all day.

Anthony Dickson

For the most part, chicken was fried to perfection. Very crispy. Potatoes and asparagus was great. Only blemish was the thigh was not cooked all the way through. However, we were compensated for that with free cake.

Jacob Borgeson

Great food and relaxing atmosphere in the fine Driskill hotel

Sebastian Estenssoro

Awesome brunch. The avocado toast and salmon bagel are amazing

Namrata Chakrabarti

Awesome brunch spot!

Great food and good service Cafe. What else do you need?

We breakfasted here Sunday morning June 30, 2019. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. We had menus and coffee right away. Our orders were prepared exactly as requested and were delicious. The restaurant was immaculately clean and the decor tasteful. It was a relaxing beginning to our day and we would definitely eat here again. Highly recommend.

Elisabeth Thompson

Always come when I'm in town! Great coffee, pastries, and breakfast is wonderful. I highly recommend the Benedict! Decor is lovely, open and clean, and walking into the hotel provides you with a sincere sense of history. I recommend making a reservation on weekends, as it is certainly a popular spot.

Donald McClane

I had a good time here. The food was great!

Carla Pendergraft

Exquisite baked goods and quiche. Attentive professional service.

Sean Baldwin

Good croissants and excellent service and atmosphere.

Camryn Jean

The food was good and the hotel is gorgeous with a lot of history. (Also possible haunted?) But I felt like the menu was a bit limited. They serve breakfast all day, but if you're looking for something small there were not many options besides soup or granola. Still, not bad. And good service.

Joe Todd

For all those people that complained about the service, find out when Kasie is working. She is delightful! The food, of course, was amazing. We had the Brazos Huevos Rancheros and the Texas Migas. Absolutely delicious! The coffee was great too.

ann busker

Wonderful service in historic hotel. Fabulous hamburger just as I had heard. Shared the 1886 chocolate cake with my friend. Absolutely heavenly!

Roger Peterson

Breakfast: Awesome rancheros!

The food was delicious but the wait took a long time. Try to make reservations or head there before the crowd to avoid the wait.

Bryan Kyllonen

This place was beautiful. We came here for breakfast, and the Eggs Benedict was great. The atmosphere was very pretty as well.

Mayte Lara

I've been here twice-once for lunch and once for breakfast. Breakfast: I had the Lady Bird Omelet which is made from only egg whites, spinach, peppers, tomato, and onion and it was DELICIOUS! The order also came with country potatoes which I loved because it incorporated all type of potatoes from white potatoes to sweet potatoes to purple potatoes. The plate also came with a side of toast. The toast was okay, I just wish I had asked for it to not be buttered. For $13, this was a great deal of healthy yet delicious food. Lunch: When I came here for lunch I got the Vegan Black Bean Burger which was roasted vegetable & barley black bean patty, baby spinach, tomatoes, avocado & white bean spread on an artisinal onion roll with a choice of side-I opted for fresh fruit. The burger was really good and not your typical "fake burger" that tastes too much like Soy. Both meals were very good. The service was very good both times as well, and the location is beautiful. Will definitely return,

Christopher Smith

Best breakfast I had in Austin. Had the Paris Texas eggs Benedict. Banana split was awesome. A must try.

Ellie Joy P.

Good place for breakfast, lunch or a lite late bite. Fresh bread and pastries. Yummy, yummy dessert! Delicious dessert drinks too! Loved the building architecture: its what made us go inside to discover a beautiful interior design of the place too! Elegant, intimate with a friendly stuff client oriented! We went in for a late dessert and drink and were super happy with our quick stop! Would definitely recommend it and yes, I would go back there.

J LA

Overpriced and the food isn’t good
