REVIEWS OF The Village Bakery & Cafe IN South Carolina

Peter G.

Really good Sunday brunch. Great place for afternoon sandwiches for lunch. And the bakery is expensive but very good.

D Peterson

We always love our little treats here. The workers are always nice and sweet just like the goods they bake! The only downside to this great place is the fact that they close quite early, about 4pm I believe on weekdays. It's a nice treat though if you have a chance to go there. It's also located in a cute little town area with several antique shops and a nice place to have dinner in the center.

Leah Garrett

Sunday brunch is AMAZING--a little pricey but well worth the 14.95. It's a brunch buffet, so you can definitely get your fill for the cost. The service was great too! The shrimp and grits are excellent, but the Mediterranean dishes really did it for me.

Edith McLaughlin

Very Good Sunday buffet. Everything was yummy.

Annie Smith

Great experience! Pleasant atmosphere, friendly service, excellent products! We had a sample at the bakery but actually ate at the cafe. I had the veggie lunch sandwich, and my husband had the monte cristo. Both sandwiches were generous and wonderfully flavored...and the pasta salad I had was great, as well. Will come back for lunch and/or the huge eclairs!

Roxzanne Breland

Lots of choices of sandwiches and pastries.

Jamie Gross

Breakfast is the best in Pendleton. Food is huge.

Peri Bush

Gotta try the grits!!! If you've never been here, I'm so sorry for you. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, great food.

Excellent hidden gem. Try the fried green tomato club, it's as big as your face!

Christopher Wilson

Granted I went on one of first Tuesday they we're open and on week of Thanksgiving. They were understaffed, and didn't have a full menu prepared. It was a port experience overall.

unalii

Excellent!! My husband had a burger, and I had a chicken sandwich. The fresh made bread/buns were great, the fries were very unique and flavorful. If I were to give any negative, it would be that I left WAY TOO FULL! If that's even a negative.

toby johnston

Small and dainty..waitresses were awesome and friendly..only downside was potatoe salad was really tart to me...

Fatema Hamed

Very very good Place their food is very delicious

Bobby Congdon

The Sunday brunch buffet cannot be missed. The sandwich with fried green tomato (can't remember the name) reigns as one of the Top 10 Things I've Ever Put in My Mouth.

Hugh Still

The food is great and usually reasonably priced. Today being Easter, I took some family and friends. I was shocked when the bill for 6 people totaled 160+ dollars. The food was the same. Did not expect this huge increase over regular Sundays

Leah

The anchor food experience of Pendleton and a lovely local’s place. The owner makes exquisite baked goods, and their meals consistently meet expectations. Go for Sunday brunch (make reservations!!) and stay every day of the week to talk to everyone. Their baklava is also special: there’s rose in there, Syrian style. I’ve lived away from Clemson for three years, but I’ve been spending (and eating) my weight in their pastries since 2013.

Michael Valentino

Excellent food and great bakery goods!

Deidre Cade

The grilled chicken sandwich was flavorful and so was the soup. Sorry no pics of the food but I did take a picture of their upcoming Sunday brunch.

Amira Barakat

I love this place so much

Old Bull

Very friendly staff, good sweets selection as well.

rgw 2112

Sunday brunch is awesome! Nice variety of delicious food. Coffee was not hot on the Sunday we went. I suspect they made it too far in advance in anticipation of the crowds.

Karen Duncan

Brunch on Sundays is $15.95. Does not include drink. The Mediterranean dishes are wonderful. Shrimp and grits were salty. Some of the baked goods seemed dry.

Ashlynn Massey

My favorite spot to eat downtown! The food is always amazing. Me and my mom have made this our lunch stop when she’s in town. So many memories at this place! I get the chicken salad sandwich and potato salad! If you haven’t tried it you need to.

Tauqueer Alam

Great food, good people. Service was excellent. Scott at the bakery is very helpful.

Tiye King

The food here is delicious and the staff are fantastic. The prices are very reasonable and they even have a small area for small groups. The attached bakery has delicious pastries, cakes, and cookies! My kids were very happy!!

Amanda Briles

Cute place with great food! I had the club sandwich with fried green tomatoes on it and the potato salad, everything was delicious. I will definitely be back to try the other options that looked good too! Eden was our server, she was really friendly and super energetic.

Jordan Frith

This is maybe my favorite place in the area. They even have excellent bagels, and the lox and bagels are amazing. Everything we've gotten there is good

Stoshie

A good local spot with Sunday brunch buffets.

Matt Dabney

The Village Baker is delicious. They have great breads and pastries (and breakfast/lunch) throughout the week and an amazing brunch on Sunday mornings/afternoons. The grits are incredible. You can check out the art co-op connected next door before or after eating, too.

Denise Beckmann

Great food in a small town. 8 of us went for lunch. Everyone enjoyed the fare, topped off with fresh bakery.

Nayereh Mosleh

Great bakery in area.

Katie Francis

Sunday brunch was absolutely delicious

Mary Beth King

Great seafood and meat section.

Carol Schrader

Great place to eat and love the bakery goodies.

Dorothy Dillon

Wow. My first time. Great food at low price. Blueberries in my pancakes were juicy. Sausage was from Century Farms, so you know no steroids in meat. Servers were new to the field. Could have filled glasses more after we got started and didn't break the bills in the change to allow for a tip. Old but clean building with character

Christophe Adeigbo

I visited for the Sunday Brunch and was overall pleased. The food was good and hearty and there was a wide selection on the buffet. My only point of complaint is that the buffet started clearing out around 30 minutes before the buffet was finished. Tip: try to gather a group of 6 or more people so that you can make a reservation. This is a popular place on Sundays and you might have to wait for a table.

Mj Racing

This is my favorite brunch cafe ever .. the selection changes so will have different experience every time... but save room for the fresh baked dessert. .. definitely must try...

James Blass

The Place Pendleton, South Carolina has one of the largest National Historic Districts in the country. Pendleton's "Main" Street: The Village Green is anchored by the Farmers' Society Hall and shops like The Village Bakery & Cafe. The bakery is quaint and nostalgic with excellent offerings and the cafe has adequate seating and many different sized tables. The Menu/Food We stopped by for lunch on a Friday. There were at least 15 sandwiches to choose from on the menu. I chose the Reuben - Corned beef and sauerkraut on hearty rye. The Reuben and fries were both very good and the portion size just right. Overall our eating experience was excellent. I plan on taking in Sunday brunch as it was highly recommended by all. The Service/Value The prices were fair for the value presented. Our server was brand new but did a good job. The only reason we new she was new... she told us. The manager and staff were all friendly. Nice small town place to eat. Highly recommend you try it!!

Dustin Thomson

Great food at a great price.

M Michael

We went there on a Sunday to the cafe attached to the bakery. They have an amazing brunch buffet. The food was excellent and they also had a great assortment of items from the bakery. Everything was delicious. I would definitely recommend the buffet, you will not be disappointed. The buffet is only on Sundays, they have a regular menu during the week for breakfast and lunch.

Zach Hughes

My wife and I stopped into this bakery after I ate lunch across the street at the 1826 restaurant, just looking for dessert. I was very impressed by the fragrance of the bakery when I walked in the door. From that, I already knew that whatever I bought would be perfect - and it was. I bought a half-dipped macaroon, a pecan crunch pastry (twice the size of my face), a chocolate square (also huge), and a chocolate ganache cake slice. The entire order was less than $11. The quality of each offering was first rate. This place would survive in a much bigger city with more demanding clientele, but it fits so well in the tiny Pendleton square. I would go well out of my way to buy dessert at this location again; it is truly spectacular.

Josh Johnson

I made an account Just to give this place a one star review

Joe Gunst

Great food, really nice staff and not too expensive. Just a great place!

Charles Van Franklin

The food was ok, not worth the money though.. Biggest thing is the waiters didn't have a clue in the world!

Food Review

I come here all of the time and love the sweets and other foods. Today I came and tried the tomato mozzarella melt because I have never tried it before. The first bite was good, until the tomatoes kicked in. The sandwich was sweet... It tasted like someone had dumped Splenda over the tomatoes. Not appetizing at all.

madeline kerr

If I could give this zero stars I would. The person seating was the slowest and disorganized I’ve ever seen. We stared at a 2 person table for 10 minutes before being sat at it. Sunday brunch is $17 a person and the food was worse than McDonald’s. Not even good enough to finish the first plate let alone get another. A ridiculous waste of money.

Angela Pless

Always amazing! Precious employees and owners..

Anna Lu

Great little gem in Pendleton! If you're in town on a Sunday you have to go and try their brunch buffet! You won't be disappointed but make sure you put in a reservation if you can! This place can get busy and sometimes you can't even get a seat!

Monnie F.

Great pastry and coffee, atmosphere is superb outdoor dining

Pat Speake

Try the cinnamon bun, it's unbelievable!

Donna Marie Koegler

Happened to stop there on our way through Georgia. Do not miss a chance to go in if you can. Excellent baked goods and friendly service. And they had "real" bagels!!! Do give it a try.

C Maco

Friendly staff and nice place, but they got my order wrong. Wasn't even that busy. Food was good at least. Make sure you check your takeout before you leave.

K. Farrah

Yummy Sunday buffet!! They have lots of great food here but the shrimp and grits are outstanding! Other items include: authentic Middle Eastern dishes, eggs, sausage, French toast, chicken, home fries, fruit salad, salad, and a great selection of desserts.

Thomas Gaeng

Excellent place for breakfast and pastries!

Deborah Hammond

This was the first time I have ever been there. Every thing was so yummy looking. Got the lemon bar and it was very delicious and look forward to going back.

Mike OSullivan

They have the best jalapeno cheddar bread in the Upstate!

Patrick Boszko

I have been to this place 3 days in a row and love the food, family owned and operated. The staff is amazing!

jim mcdonell

A cafe and bakery on the main square in Pendleton, SC. The food is good and the baked goods are great. Limited seating and always crowded. Service may be a little slow at peak times but the wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Limited menu of gluten free options.

Dead Head

Really great atmosphere and the food is great! All of their ingredients are fresh and the baked goods are to die for. Their coffee is really awesome, too! I particularly like Sunday brunch

Seth Jeffuns

I used to eat here all the time, but lately i've been seeing cockroaches everywhere and the service has been horrible.

jane trammell

Great food, great service!!

Fahad Vora

Didn’t get a chance to try something from the bakery, but I loved the brunch I had in the cafe. Nice and peaceful location, great crowd and staff. Service can take some time depending on the rush, but I didn’t mind waiting. Great place to pop into when you’re visiting or passing through Pendleton!

Erich Degler

Very good food at reasonable prices !!

Sandra Bryan

Very good baked goods!!

Kevin James

Slow Service. Food took forever and there was no one there.

Amy W

The cafe is split into two parts - the bakery side and the cafe / coffee shop side. The sandwiches from the cafe are wonderful and are served on freshly baked bread. I had the grilled veggie sandwich on a rosemary focaccia roll which was absolutely delicious! The apple coleslaw side was light and refreshing with a vinegar instead of mayonnaise base - wonderful! I also enjoyed a fresh almond bear claw from the bakery. The cappuccino was so-so - a bit bitter with poorly frothed milk, but no worse than Starbucks and frankly as good as any other options in the area. The cafe is a bit busy and noisy for staying and working but the bakery side also has tables and seems to have fewer customers who sit and stay.

Emily Hull

The Sunday brunch is awesome. The menu during the week is also very good. Plus picking up something from the bakery after the meal is finished.

Jason Bishop

Little pricey but good food and desert

Joshua Alper

Best Sunday brunch around!

Kitsy Stratton

They have several delicious GLUTEN FREE items!!!! If enough of us ask, they will soon offer non-dairy creamer for the coffee, too.

Ivo Nenin

Quaint and good food. Great for a quick bite with friends

Patrick Rourke

Best bacon around!

Artou Rousselle

The cafe is an exceptional place for breakfast. Do yourself a favor and come here even if it's a bit of a drive, it is worth it. The coffee is good, service very personal and great food selection. Then when your done with breakfast you can find some things to go at the bakery and you can have the deliciousness at home.

Teddi Fish

The best bakery in the Clemson/Pendleton area. Awesome Sunday Brunch. Great choice for lunch.

Natalie Odom Pough

The best brunch ever!!

Flavian Pegado

Absolute gem of a place. Everything about this place is excellent. Brunch on a Sunday is just perfect.

David Simmons

Enjoy a great breakfast at reasonable prices. The grits and bacon keep me coming back. They have a nice bakery attached also. Very friendly and attentive waitresses.

Rebecca Dixon

I ordered the Village Veggie Melt which is served on rosemary focaccia bread! Outstanding and may have set my expectations too high for my next one at another restaurant. I could smell the rosemary as I stuffed the sandwich in my mouth--heaven! My chosen side was apple coleslaw--wow! Very favorable to my taste buds! Topped off with good coffee...I enjoyed this meal!

Tom Fitzgerald

Delicious and reasonably priced. The Sunday buffet is amazing

Shane Isbell

Awesome Sunday brunch. The breads and cakes are awesome too! Highly recommend!

Annette Buchanan

Great food. Wonderful bakery.

David Molner

The man who runs this, Abdul, is a Syrian refugee who loves cooking as much as the loves this country. The passion shows up in the flavors. Worth a visit.

Kama Offenberger

Delicious breakfast and friendly service.

Nathan Schaupp

Amazing food and wonderful service.

Nate Newsome

Great food! A wonderful place for breakfast. The bakery is easily the best in the area. Try the cookies!

Janice Bannister

The best breakfast I've had since relocating here 2 yrs ago!! If you love grits...you will love theirs ( I always ask for cheese on top...yum). Quaint and cozy this small town cafe won't disappoint you! Lunch is also a great choice here where they offer tasty sandwiches, soups, and a quiche of the day. They use homemade bread made on site at their in house bakery right next door. Make that your final stop and grab some pastries or cookies for later! I recommend the almond cookies (usually in a small bag on the counter). My faves!! You won't be disappointed with either meal option here, but don't be surprised if there's a small line for breakfast...its popular.

Lexie White

Honestly one of the best small bakeries I've been to. I had the reuben with a side of french fries and some ranch to go along with it. While everything was fantastic the french fries and ranch are by far the best I've ever eaten.

Colin Ryan

Great local place, gonna miss it when I'm gone. Service can be a bit slow at times, but the food in both the cafe and bakery are great.

P. Bell

Thank you Abdul for always providing the best pastries and cookies, and being a part of the community. Logan and I will always be loyal customers!

Jad Taylor

Steps to An Amazing Village Bakery experience: 1. If during the week, order the veggie sandwich. The tagline says, "So good you won't miss the meat." They're not lying. 2. If Sunday, go and bask in the glorious brunch. Their brunch is the greatest meal of the week in the area. Period.

Theodore Darid Mauro

I love this place because the people are friendly the food is good and the bakery has some great cakes I always pick up a box of assorted cookies and bring them with me to certain events and they are beloved!

Chase Kinsey

I'm so torn because the bakery is amazing but I didn't get a chance to try the cafe since our service was so slow. I've heard great things about the food and may stop by again in the future but the service left a bad taste in my mouth. Several people around us we're also frustrated with the wait times. Hopefully it was an off day but i was not impressed.

Aubrey M

Saying that it's a great local bakery doesn't do it justice. At a Clemson event, the host had the most delicious cookies on the table and told us that we had to check this place out. We visited several times for carry out cookies and treats for us, family, and friends. The almond macaroons are perfection-- not too sweet, very light, with a crunchy outside and tender interior. They're available drizzled in chocolate or plain-- both are excellent. They also have amazing muffins (truly the best muffin you've ever eaten; they have a slight crunch to the outside). It's a foodie's delight.

Greta Street

Great food, friendly service, beautiful location!

Scott Koegler

Fun shop on the square. Great breads and friendly staff.

Tammy Smith

I think I had a total of three waitresses none of which ever brought me what I requested. I ordered hot tea and water and never got the water. I ordered butter with my bagel but I never got it. The waitresses seem to talk to the customers that they know well instead of making sure that everyone has what they need. The food was good hence the reason for the three stars. I may try them again just to see if the service gets better.

Bill Thomas

Wonderful breakfast and baked goods!

Diesje Rivera

Fried green tomato and Turkey club! Oh my, yes, please! Delicious, and what a lovely family running the place. My son will eat well while here in college. Must try.

Amanda Hanff

I would love to give this place a great rating as we have frequented it over the last several years and really love their food. Unfortunately, the last 2-3 times we have been there on a Saturday morning the food service has been very slow, which is ok; we’ve never had a problem waiting since the food was good and the staff was friendly. But today we waited 40 minutes for our breakfast to finally be told that our order had been lost and was never entered into the computer. It was 10:40 so they had just switched to the lunch menu 10 minutes before and said they couldn’t put our breakfast order back in, despite the fact that they were still serving breakfast dishes to tables that ordered after us. I’ll give them credit that they did offer us lunch if we wanted (which we didn’t since it was so early) and gave us a free pastry from the bakery side. It was just extremely frustrating to wait that long and then not be able to get a simple French toast and breakfast sandwich order because of a 10 minute difference in breakfast and lunch menu times and a staff error. Unfortunately, this is a restaurant we have frequented but I’m not sure we will be returning at this point.

Brad K

I have been very lucky these past two weekends. I searched through Urban Spoon and found this place. Read a few reviews and decided to give it a try. This is the best Bakery/Restaurant combo ever, and a real bakery that rivals the big city bakeries. I was just looking for a good meal, but I was blown away. The flavors that were in the dishes had my tongue jumping and moving. Quite a wonderful place, and I WILL be back. I only hope they don't get too successful and move to Las Vegas to make a killing.... Although.... if I had the cash, I would invest in them to move locations to the big town. Last weekend I found a place in Columbia, SC called the Original Pancake House and it was wonderful too. Still I think the Village bakery is even better!

Ray Huskey

Great food and super nice staff. And the bakery is AWESOME!!

Gregory McKinney

Wonderful buffet brunch with friends.

Michael Chavez

The moment I walked in I could smell the pastries and the fresh baguettes on display. The desserts are superb and fresh. The bread tastes homemade. Food 10/10 Atmosphere 9/10 Service 10/10

Cindy Davis

First time going today. Danny and I had breafast. It was wonderful. Will definitely be going back. I have got to go for brunch

William Vickery

Great fresh food and smiling friendly faces everytime I visit. A variety of baked good and coffees as well as quiches. It's a great place to eat.

Doug Albert

I had the chili and also a Reuben sandwich and both were very good. I would recommend that place for sure.

Donald Rodgers

They have the best dessert table on the Sunday brunch of any restaurant within a hundred miles of here. This alone is worth going to the Sunday brunch for.

Nushrat Humaira

Mediterranean food. chef is really nice. I went here for friend’s graduation party. Shop is really cute, like old small town movie shooting spot. Interior of the cafe section has wall mural painted on, depicts the neighborhood of downtown Pendleton. Their rice dish, salad,Beetroot dip are really good. They make a cauliflower dish which is super awesome. Sweets are really good too.

Brandon Blake

Top notch restaurant and bakery. You get a ton of food for the price and it is all fresh and made in house daily. The bakery is heavenly with it's aroma and sights. Delicious pastries and bread await you at cheap prices.

Becky Shugart

Great soup and quiche for lunch then to bakery for dessert! I would recommend to everyone.

John Marano

Wonderful service. Food is hot, fresh, and delicious. Cool atmosphere

Robin Mead

Excellent service and food

Mitzie Simmons

The best. Try fried green tomatoe club and cheesecake or actually any bakery item. Live 600 miles away and i will be back.

Ulonda Best

I ordered a Cheese Danish and a Plain bagel with cream cheese! My bagel was so fresh, crispy where it needed to be and soft in the middle. Service was fast and friendly! My husband and I will be back for more!

Ernie Wagner

Everything we have ever has has been excellent!

Richard Haas

Was told by Andy B. This place had a pretty good breakfast, I had the bacon, egg and cheese in a biscuit. The biscuit was big enough to sit on and what wonderful flavors. Great cup of coffee too. Had to stop in the bakery too, great stuff there too .

Jim Phillips

Sunday brunch!

Melissa Moody

Absolutely everything is amazing. Highly recommend their French toast and their grits.

William McCuen

A taste of the Middle East, right here in our corner of SC! What pairs better with toast than jam? Delicious, home -made hummous! The Sunday brunch fare at The Village Bakery and Cafe is an eclectic mix of Middle Eastern Staples and Southern Standbys, and it's sure to please almost any palette. My wife and I took 3 picky eaters (children) there and they didn't leave hungry. The desert table is almost sinful in its variety, but each offering is presented in just-the-right size so that you don't feel terrible about having another halwa after that 2nd round of pancakes. The price is steep at $17 per person. And if you're not waiting at the door when they open, you'll be waiting on the sidewalk for a table to open- this place is popular. It's worth the price, it's worth the drive. Enjoy your brunch!

vazzhand

The Fried Green Tomato sandwich is now MY FAVORITE sandwich, bye bye burger! Every friend I have introduced to this sandwich to equals my sentiments. The only negative is it's size, and because each bite is so delicious you CAN'T stop yourself from eating the whole thing, you just feel full for several hours. Its stacked with turkey, 2 large slices of perfectly cooked crisp bacon topped with 2 tasty fried green tomatoes, the mayonnaise mix (pesto?) gives it that extra tanginess that makes it a near perfect sandwich.

Mary Ann Hall

I had the chicken salad plate. It was delicious. My partner had a Rueben that he description as the best one he had in a long time. Nice and friendly atmosphere.

Chris Greene

Great food and great service!

Pamela Leonard

Love this bakery! We come here everytime we are in town!

Josephine B.

Cute neighborhood eatery with great food and service!

Ken K

You can't find a better lunch in the Clemson area and a bakery to top things off!! Eat well, but plan for an afternoon nap. It's worth the trip if you're in the area.

Aram Vardanian

Great good and loved it. Too much food lol

Josh Morgan

Great food, though not any vegan options. Service can be slow depending on the time of day. The bakery has absolutely delicious treats and breads.

wesley Lewis
