Wonderful cozy spot for lunch. Consistently excellent food and service. Leslie also makes the best pastashio cream cake (among other flavors) for special occasions.
My wife and I went here while on our honeymoon. I got the blue crab, corn, and bacon pot pie and she got the Mufoletta sandwich. Both of them were out of this world. She loved her sandwich and my pot pie was the best thing I’ve eaten in weeks!! Loaded with fresh sweet crab meat, it was absolutely out of this world! The setting/view was excellent. She got one of the chai teas and it was delicious as was my medium roast coffee. We would highly recommend and definitely hope to come back one day!
A fun place to visit and have a yummy lunch. Baked goods are amazing. It's a must if you visit Bluffton A.C..
Delicious breakfast. Dog friendly.
Excellent brunch! A must try The Southern Lady (fried green tomatoes with poached eggs) Yummy!!
Good but expensive...the atmosphere and service is very good, but $3.75 for a Pepsi and 15.95 for a burger fries and a small salad was a bit much
Service and food are second to none. Excellent value.
I've never had a bad bite of anything at this restaurant. A quaint cottage located in a true Low Country town. The past two times I have been, I ordered the Pimento Cheese Burger and the gumbo. I'd recommend both.
Good meal and desert choices
Great staff, tasty food but a bit pricey for lunch. Especially the desserts are pricey. Great down home cottage feeling.
A little pricy for brunch but portion was good. Loved the potatoes! I just wish the fruits were sweeter. The honeydew melon was tough to chew and was bland. I ordered the crab cake benedict. I liked the crab cake but not a big fan of the poached eggs. The place was cozy and the view was beautiful. It's a fairly good breakfast place.
I have been coming here with my family for over a decade and we always stop in at least twice while we're on vacation. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu
My wife and I are old town residents, generally have had nice experiences here. One of our favorite spots for Sunday brunch. Had some out of town guests in this past weekend, one of which is in restaurant management, thought it would be nice to take them there for breakfast on the patio. I approached the dark-haired, tattooed hostess and inquired about a table for 4 outside, and was abruptly (pretty rudely) told there was none available, even though a group had just stood up from a table of 4, and there was an empty table for 6. Upon asking specifically about the 4 table, was told it was reserved. We proceeded to be sat inside, unfortunately, on that beautiful morning. Being by the window, kept an eye on the table we requested. After eating for an hour, then leaving, table outside remained empty. What can you do I guess, maybe she was having a bad day. We’ll probably try again someday.
Very disappointed in quality, and service. When I first arrived I was presented with a Pie instead of a Black Forest Cake! Was 1st told it's what I ordered, then was told "oh I'm sorry I never saw one before so I didn't know". When my cake was finally located and shown to me I was very put off by the kid sprinkles and cheap plastic balloon just stuck in the middle. My cake only slightly resembles a black forest with the cherry topping but having been served a pie first the several staff members trying to assure me the cake was right brought no comfort at all! I wasn't excited about purchasing a cake that looked nothing like my expectations. My fear was that I would dive the hour home and cut into something totally wrong. Staff offered to scrape the top an re-do the decorations and that it would be quick, but their attitude and still attempts to talk confidently about all the mistakes up to this point are only more discouraging. The place was small and cramped even after the lunch rush. On our trip up I was thinking it would have been nice to stay for lunch but after everything I have seen and experienced I barely wanted to leave with what I came to purchase. Not sure all the awards on the wall we're earned, unless this cake tastes out of this world I will not be returning! Update: We paid $53.95 for the cake. They fixed the top only by scrapping off what wasn't covered in sprinkles and put merichino cherries in it's place. They made no effort to compensate for the gross presentation of the cake, or the legenth of time we waited on them to find our cake and then fix it. Once we got home yes the interior was chocolate but this cake was not a proper black forest cake. So we will not be returning to place again, too over priced for the results we were given and the treatment from the staff members.
Wonderful service, great prices, awesome food.
Quaint, cute little spot for tourists to talk about when they get home. Teapots, cups and local artwork surrounds the walls. Reasonable prices and great friendly staff trying to accommodate everyone.
Delicious lunch!
The food was tasty. But the staff seemed a bit unorganized. And I watched a lady cleaning out the bakery shelves without removing items, so that as she wiped upper shelves it dropped what you cleaned up on to the bottom shelf of food. Walking through the kitchen area to get to the bathroom wasn't that appealing either.
Great service, ambiance, and food.
The Cottage ..excellent clean food and service.
Excellent service and a quaint ambiance. The fish tacos were amazing and very filling. What a selection of baked goods. The restaurant is atrached to a full service bakery. It worth the wait if there is a line.
Great food in a casual cottage setting. Be prepared to wait during busy lunchtimes 12-1pm.
Cute eatery, fabulous menu, great service, delicious food.
Longtime Bluffton residents who have never ventured over here. We loved the atmosphere and location... service wasn’t great. Took over 40 minutes to get our food, we both ordered hash and eggs... drinks were empty and our waitress never came back to see if we needed anything or even if our food was ok, and I would have ordered another. Too bad, really. I had high hopes when we got there. Portions are ok... food was pretty good, nothing special. We asked for our check literally 20 minutes after finishing, which took her 10 minutes to bring and 10 minutes to process. Absolutely not exaggerating. I get it with a busy restaurant or new, but a place this established? We won’t be back.
No teacups used, scones were large cut in half, assortment not fresh and felt rushed
Always wonderful.
What a treasure! Outstanding food and service. Save room for desert!
Yum. That’s all I gotta say. Try the chocolate pistachio cake.
The food here is so fantastic. I had the kimchi burger. They cooked it perfectly. I was even given an unexpected salad with it. The kind of salad that I would normally set to the side to make room for French fries (which they also provided). But this time, I tried it, and was once again blown away. I'll definitely come again.
We had the best brunch ever here today! We seemed to have two servers who were equally friendly and told us more about the restaurant’s history and decor. Absolutely DELICIOUS food and they had an amazing selection of tea. Something on the menu for everyone. Fresh, quick, and very lowcountry style. Would highly recommend. :)
Quaint little spot with teapots and sauces around the top shelf. Top shelf for breakfast and lunch. Outdoor seating with quick friendly service and nice menu selection. Usually very busy, but worth the wait.
Excellent food. Our waiter Shaun was great. Will go back soon
Such a cute and perfect breakfast|lunch|brunch place! Amazing food! Definitely a local charm and a local jewel!
Was nice but shrimp n grits not very special..had reservation but ended up outside on porch. Pricey.
Definitely my favorite Bluffton restaurant!
My daughter and I love going here every so often on our Date Days. It’s really sweet and charming. Definitely recommend!
Monica was our server. Can't ask for friendlier service. The food is always well done here.
i hardly ever write reviews especially a bad one. I had the fish tacos, and my wife had the cashew chicken wraps. The fish in the tacos was very mushy and not much flavor. the chicken wraps were drowned in teriyaki and the chicken didn't taste right. The bill with 2 iced teas was 45.00.Anyway the house salads were delicious.
Very nice place. Great band tonight. The food is a tad expensive but the portions are nice and the service is great. Their pastries are to die for.
The food was outstanding but the wait staff made it the best.
Amazing food and very kind staff. Love coming here.
Our experience was amazing our food was delicious our wait staff was amazing our food came out in minutes. We had no problem going through the kitchen to use the restroom as it is a historic Cottage on a historical landmark and cannot be changed we love the Ambiance of the little building and chose to eat there because it is not a chain restaurant. We will go back when we are in Bluffton
Can't go wrong, always interesting menu and great service
Cute
Probably the best brunch that my wife and I have experienced! This is a one of a kind experience.
Definitely a hidden gem in Bluffton. Have absolutely loved every dish I have ordered. I love the chef's style never disappointes!!
Great brunch spot! Shrimp and grits are amazing!
A wonderful place for breakfast. Food is outstanding and this is a great little gem in old town bluffton.
Varied menu with excellent choices. Outside seating in nice weather makes it feel open. Inside seating can be a little close.
Such a fun place for Tea! The food is delicious and there are many choices for the type of the tea you want. The Cottage carries on the fine English tradition of afternoon tea.
Came for Saturday breakfast. French toast was awesome. Wife has puffy omelette which she really enjoyed. Service was quick attentive and pleasant. Will return when possible
Always great food and service selection and specials delicious not to mention the fantastic desserts
The best breakfast in Bluffton! My wife and I had some friends visiting and decided to try The Cottage for breakfast. All I can say is WOW!!! The hostess and waitstaff were very friendly and seated us quickly. We each tried something different (Corned Beef Hash, Cilantro Love, Green Goodness, and Kimchi and Eggs). Our food arrived quickly and was as visually appealing as it was delicious! Such a unique combination of fresh ingredients that all came together beautifully. The corned beef hash over toast and topped with two poached eggs was hands-down the best I've ever tasted and probably one of my top-five breakfasts ever. If you can only have one breakfast here in Bluffton, then The Cottage is your destination. You will not be disappointed!
Wish I could give more than one star, but the best part about my meal was the house salad. The entree, “Cashew Chicken Lettuce wrap” was inedible. Weird chicken. Too much unexpected teriyaki. But great and cute waiter, his first day on the job. Our stomachs are still reeling. The pastries looked amazing. Too bad we didn’t feel like eating after we had the chicken. Also, another awkward feature is that guests have to pass through the kitchen to get to the bathroom.
Omg so delicious! Service was good and food was good!
The tuna salad was incredible!! Friendly people and don't forget to try the coffee!
Excellent food. Nice atmosphere.
Great service, nice comfortable setting, large selection on menu and food was awesome
Great variety of yummy foods and breakfast in a cozy and cute cottage
If you want overpriced, mediocre food and slow service with an attitude, this is the place for you. We were looking for a coffee and light breakfast and went out of our way to support a local business. We arrived at 11:15 am could not get breakfast, since they were on their lunch menu. We decided split an overpriced sandwich and had to pay $4.50 extra to share! The sandwich took longer than expected to arrive, and came with chips from a bag (a mixture of BBQ & sour cream and onion). I could rant about a few other things, but let’s leave it at that. I will not return.
Nice atmosphere with Four Star food. Old house turned into restaurant. Things are tight but everyone is gracious about it. Eat on covered porch. We always take out of town guests. Then visit shops and galleries.
We enjoyed sitting on the veranda. Shrimp and crawfish etouffee was spicy and filling. A freshly brewed pot of tea complimented the meal. No need for dessert but they made my mouth water just looking at them!
The food is good and the service is wonderful. Portions are big and they'll feed my dogs!
Loved this spot...so charming. The setting is an old house and they offer yummy food with great service. The BUT here is the place is chaotic...servers running in and out, doors opening and closing constantly and you have to walk THROUGH the kitchen to use the only single restroom. Hmmm...this space needs a rethink since the place is always crowded. Charming but definitely not peaceful.
The back area where kitchen and bathroom are located needs a thorough cleaning. Very disappointed in the "Chicago Steak Sandwich." It was served on a piece of white bread not the hogie as advertised and the steak was not at all tasty. I brought out of town guests and I was totally embarrassed. Server was polite but I would think twice about trying this establishment again.
Great little cozy restaurant. Pet friendly. Great menu full of something for everyone. I had the crab Benedict, one of the poached eggs was over cooked but didn't ruin the dish. Overall, 6 people enjoyed the dishes, atmosphere and people.
I went to the cottage cafe with my five bridesmaids at the end of my bachelorette weekend and it was wonderful! We didn't have a reservation but were seated immediately (9:30 on a Sunday). Our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and the food was AMAZING!! I had the crab cakes which I would absolutely recommend. The portions were huge and we totally could have shared. Others had omelets, the French toast with challah bread, and scrambles. Everything was great and I hope to go back! Only downside is a weird bathroom situation - just a single stall that is also a storage closet that can only be accessed through the very busy kitchen.
Save room for the desserts!
Snobbish customer service. Unable to comment on the food since the woman acting as receptionist coldly informed our party of 6 that we would have a 30 minute wait to be seated, even though more than half of the tables were available. We ended up walking over to Farm Bluffton a half block away and had a lovely lunch. Glad that The Cottage does so much business that they ate able to rudely turn guests away. We'll never return.
Pre-ordered fresh breads to take to a dinner party. Order was ready when I arrived. Owner gave me great instructions on warming the bread. They were really busy but I still received fast and courteous service.
Excellent food and plenty of it.
Must try! Don't let the layback exterior fool you. The food is exceptional and unusual.
Had their Chicken Avocado Schnitzel very good and very flavorful , and then came the Desert Bar , awesome desserts - sadly by the time I reached there was no pie left so they are amazing , had a chance to try there chocolate lava cake , German Chocolate cake and Espresso Cheesecake - wow !!!
Very nice little place to eat. When we come into town we always stop and eat here a few times during our trip
Delicious food, great staff and atmosphere. Always get the fried green tomatoes!
Great place, great food!
Nice little restaurant in a historic house. Food is different, I guess the proper phrase would be modern. It's the type of place that puts a fancy creative spin on everything they cook. I'm not really a big fan of that only because I have noticed that places that do this, leave out choices for everyday people (aka picky eaters) but luckily I found something I like. I got the cheese steak and it is very good. Don't get me wrong, we'll go back next time we're in town, but it would be nice if they had some regular too to meet the needs of other customers.
Even on an off-season weekday for lunch, they were crowded. Very popular, with a distinctive historical setting. Very pleasant and prompt service. Extensive and interesting menu. My liver was a little tough, however.
I have been coming here for lunch every year when I visit Hilton Head. It saddens me that it is not as good as I remember. The food is adequate, the service is fine, but nothing special. It is busy all the time, they are very popular, but it is not someplace that I am going to actively seek. Out next year.
Food was delicious and the wait staff were very nice. Lots of stuff to look at - honey, jams and jellies, baked goods, ground coffees. Tables on the porch were quaint too. Right on Calhoun Street in the middle of all the antique shops. Loved it!
Food was great and we ordered and like 5 minutes later we were served!
Even though I made a reservation specifically for afternoon tea, the hostess very rudely informed me they were no longer serving tea at the time. Not only is the website misleading, but the staff was incredibly condescending—excepting an apologetic waitress, the reason for the extra star. Unfortunately did not get the chance to try the food, but I doubt I’ll be back.
The food is great but it's very overpriced and slow.
Unique place to eat. Best crab cake Benedict I have ever had. Wishing I had bought some of the bourbon pecan pie.
We simply love this place! Hilton Head is a halfway stop for us when we travel to NC from FL and we make it a point to eat here. The staff is incredible and dogs are welcome to dine on the quaint front porch. Also, the food is amazing! The last stop I ordered the lobster tacos and they were so good I took a photo, which is something I never do.
Great food and service!
You want the best deserts in Bluffton this is your place. Oh by the way they also have some really good food as well.
Come here every year. Large selection of menu items plus several daily specials. Very fresh and high quality ingredients for for foodies and for regular Joes like me. Great wait staff! Pictures are of my loaded loaded shrimp Cobb and wife's fried green tomatoes.
Always good, healthy, fresh food. Portion sizes are big, so you may want to share. Ask the price of specials, especially any seafood, before you order, to save any shocks later.
Loved everything about this place. Food was excellent and the restaurant itself is casual but interestingly decorated. Service was a bit slow but the food was worth the wait.
This is hands down the most fantastic food, atmosphere, people, The Cottage has It all. I've dined at many, many fine dining establishments, served at some and few compare to this quaint slice of heaven.
The food is amazing and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Put The Cottage on your list of must go's! PS...the Salt Carmel Pecan Pie is to die for...
I had shrimp etouffee with cornbread and my wife fried green tomatoes. both were good, southern recipes. We like the Bluffton area and sitting outside on the porch lets you enjoy it. The bakery items look great but we were all full from the lunch.
Lovely spot with amazing desserts! A must visit!
Don't miss this restaurant. Don't let the lay back appearance fool you, the food is exceptional. You would expect food like this in an upscale location.
Love it.
The Cottage was a terrific spot for breakfast. The food was great and the staff was very nice. I'd go back again on my next trip to HHI. Loved it.
Great place
Excellent service and good
This is an absolute must stop when in Bluffton. Delicious food, friendly staff. You will not be disappointed.
Only had dessert but it was Awesome, Tiramisu!
Very friendly and the food beyond good.
When in historic Bluffton, SC don't miss the Cottage Cafe, Bakery & Tea Room! We enjoyed a nice lunch, starting with Mimosas! If you have the option, choose a seat on the porch! Our server was very accommodating, especially with my 5 year old godson. I hope to return soon!
My wife and I had an excellent brunch at the Cottage Cafe. I was hoping for a wider pastry selection, but what we did have was absolutely beautiful and perfect. Thank you, Cottage!
Good Food but way overpriced. Service was below average & rude over a problem.
Outstanding. Service and food were fabulous.
Great food and service! We always love coming here for breakfast when we are in town. Love eating on the front porch.
Great atmosphere, all homemade bakery items. So, if your having lunch save room for dessert or better just take it with you. One of my favorite places!
Scrumptious food excellent service, everything fresh and well prepared.
I will give stars to creations, quality and quantity of the food. For the customer service, I think they need to work on it. We were suggested to seat in the corner of the patio since we had two young children (they were very behavioral children who never got up from their chair during our stay). It was really hot and humid that day. Just sitting there the humidity was taking our energy away. We asked to change the setting of a ceiling fun but it wasn't mechanically impossible. Nothing they could done...... We all couldn't finish our meal because this hotness yet a server asked us for dessert order.........
I loved eating outside on an early spring Saturday afternoon. There was a bit of a wait when we got there so the hostess took our phone number and we went shopping in the quaint little neighborhood of homes that have been converted to shops. The Monte Christo Panini was fabulous and gigantic.
Great food and menu. Beautiful historic cottage.
Food is great. I had the best liver, bacon, and onions I ever had.
Love this place Excellent food and service Now I won't be able to get in.. Everything is excellent including desert
Best Corn Beef Hash and Juevos Rancheros on the planet.
Only place where I have tried the shrimp and grits and didn't like them. Tasted vinegary
Loved the atmosphere plus service and food outstanding.
Sadly, this is the first time I've written a poor review since moving here. The Cottage Cafe in Old Town Bluffton is very high priced! Breakfast was $20+ dollars including the coffee @ $3.75! Both the food and coffee were not hot and the coffee was bland/weak. The breakfast came with 3 eggs, two, very thin ham slices, some grits and a slice of (fresh bread) toast. I was very disappointed considering the many employees and the few customers at 9:30 a.m. and would have thought the food and coffee would have been served just a little more quickly and hotter. I must say, the eggs were cooked perfectly, to my liking.
Everything about this place was phenomenal! And it was so cute on top of it. Wish I lived closer!
Hostess service - F Cost for what you get - D Taste - B+ Waitress service - A Creativity - A I am a full time resident of Bluffton and dine in old town 2-3 times per week. This assessment represents an average of several visits. The bad service by the hostess and the relatively high cost for what you get unfortunately outweighs the creativity of the dishes and the friendly waitresses.
We had delicious breakfasts this morning. We have been to the Cottage Cafe on several occasions for breakfast and never had a bad meal. Service was great too.
Perhaps more stars from seafood lovers? If you are not, as we aren’t, the choices are few. The chicken cashew stir fry is not a good choice. It came in a bowl, topped with cashews, and looked like a bowl of dog food. The taste was not good. We choked it down, as we were guests being paid for. Otherwise, I would have just paid and moved on.
Very busy place and I understand why. Great food, great staff, and a great location. I'll be back.
Amazing breakfast, best dark roast coffee
The Cottage never disappoints. Very busy for brunch as usual but Veronica out server was awesome. Love this place!
I love this restaurant. The atmosphere is great, the service is excellent, and the food is amazing, but above all, the coffee is really good!!
Unfortunately no pretty tea pots or tea cups and no clotted cream for the scones. Over all the food was good.
My wife and I recently moved here. The food and service at The Cottage have been excellent.
This is a really fun/quaint place to eat ! Cosy, intimate, good food selection and thoroughly enjoyable.
best Shrimp and Grits I have ever eaten anywhere in the South!
Been here a couple years back. It only gets beter.
This place was sooooo disappointing. It gets great reviews and is one of the top rated restaurants in town so I figured we’d give it a try. We had the shrimp n grits, and a sandwich. The shrimp n grits was amazing, but nothing else was. The sandwich was average. For desert we got a slice of cake and a cannoli. Both were terrible, everything was overpriced, and the quality just wasn’t there. We paid about $55 for lunch and our only drink was a glass of coke. I wanted to like this place but just couldn’t. I can recommend so many other places in Bluffton that are better than here.
We’ve been coming here for years and always love the food. We Stopped in tonight and enjoyed ourselves, but felt rushed. Our salad arrived and maybe three minutes later, our meals arrived. There appeared to only be one server and a food runner, maybe that’s all you need for a fast kitchen. They have a great assortment of wines and the food is always great, Just wish they got the other parts under control.
Took my two daughters here one has severe allergy Manager cane over to our table greeted both my kids and asked how could she make our day great. We then explain the allergy she told the chef and they made a fantastic brunch for my girls respectively. My girls said they felt like princesses. My meal was equally delicious.
Great portions, fantastic food quality-- salads and cakes are delicious!! What more do you need in life?
The lace is amazing. We had seafood pasta and red fish and both dishes were amazing.I recommend anybody that is in the bluffton area try this place. They have a friendly staff that is always welcoming .
Wonderful Brunch, try the bacon o bacon Benedict
Split a BLT and water and it was $26.95 with the $4.95 split plate charge. Mediocre sandwich and WAY overpriced...
Way too expensive for less than great food.
Rustic charm. Small and quaint. We were there for breakfast which was good; full plate platters, but a tad on the expensive side for breakfast.
Food was AMAZING! Atmosphere was a little crowded and loud, servers seemed like they were in a rush. Very nice though 7
Food was fantastic. Service is fast, efficient, and very kind. Also has a lovely bakery with amazing cakes, pies, pastrys, and more. Great place for breakfast, lunch, or just a quick snack.
I took my visiting sister for lunch. The food and service was wonderful as always.
Great Southern Brunch offerings, very cozy ambience and extremely helpful and cheerful staff. Cannot wait to eat there again!
Enjoyed it. Need reservations on the weekends.
It was ok. Some people seem to love it there because of the decor but I wasn’t amazed at the food. Also was not a fan of being crammed into a front patio stuffed with tables where I couldn’t move. Food wasnt bad, just not great. I had some type of egg dish with cilantro and avocado. Maybe their other dishes are better? We went once, prob not going back.
Great service and great breakfast, especially waffles.. Also complimentary cornbread !
Excellent food, service and front porch atmosphere, along with indoor for large parties.
This plz e gets 5 stars because of muffin the cat! I would love to see her adopted though. Good was good here, but dieters beware, since this location offers mostly savory dishes
Really really loved it, staff was friendly and food was amazing, 10/10 would recommend anyone, it's a bit on the expensive but well worth it
Best food in downtown Bluffton! And their cakes are amazing too!
Went here on a Saturday the waitress was very ride and took along time to take our order the food was medoaker and expensive. The bathroom is thought the kitchen and hard to find.
Truly a feeling of "Old South Carolina", but with new and wonderful combinations of Southern food. You just feel good here.
If you can eat outside do that. Unique food
Prejudice. Won't accept walk in?!!
The best brunch bar none. Don't miss the muffins and butter. Entrees are fabulous. Good coffee.
Great place for Sunday brunch. Very creative dishes.
Food is delicious, service is attentive and friendly. Portions are large enough for take-home consideration. A very enjoyable experience...
