The Ginger Sesame salad was a great lunch. I could not stop eating it! The service was excellent. Definitely going back to meet with old friends for lunch. The pastry selection is phenomenal.
Oh...my...God... So many yummy options! I had the strawberry shortcake! Friendly cashier! They also have spots to sit down and charge your phone/electronics while you enjoy a treat! They serve cafe style meals there too!
The cakes are amazing (Coconut Cake and Red Velvet) but the food otherwise is only good if the head chef is cooking. Otherwise it's a toss up.
Love this place!! Gorgeous decor, always happy with the food
Brunch was delicious and the staff is so delightful. The manager makes you feel right at home with his warm smile.
Food is good. But i love the bakery!
Yum! Delish Mediterranean Salad. My husband loved his Philly Steak sandwich...desserts are to die for!
If you are in Charleston and looking for quality baked goods like you wod find in a big city, go to Saffron.
During our time in Charleston this was a place we went to no less than twice a week. They had at that time a great happy hour, an amazing selection of brews, the prices were great, and the service unbelievable. As you might notice I speak in the past-tense, that is because we were there a few years ago and do not know what is up now. For months we made sure to visit them. We had a chance to meet the owners and most of the staff as we visited often. Really a great place. If ever you have a chance know that it would be worth your trip.
I had breakfast and comparing the pancakes to cracker barrel's mama pancake breakfast, it's a draw. I had the pecan pancakes and they were good. The eggs were better than cracker barrel's eggs. Seemed to have been a larger serving. Overall I like the atmosphere of cracker barrel and they are a little less expensive for the meal. However, I will definitely visit Saffron's again. Maybe next time, I'll try their omelette. اسلام عليكم
Food was very good. I had falafel and hummus, both were delicious. Service (our waiter) was a bit slow. Not very crowded, so we felt a bit neglected. 4:30 in the afternoon.
Lovely place to eat with excellent food. I will say if you are headed to an event make a reservation! Otherwise it is a perfect place to stop in off the street and eat.
Food and desserts were extremely good. Service was only fair. Sunday afternoon 5 p.m. very few customers waitress kept disappearing.
Absolutely delicious! I didn't realize they had so many vegan options and it's a short walk from work. This is their trio which is $12. Shirazi salad, hummus, and their eggplant mirza served with pita bread. The shirazi salad was diced cucumbers, roma tomatoes, red onions, herbs, lemon juice and EVOO. Eggplant mirza is roasted eggplant, garlic, tomatoes, onions, & fresh herbs. I'll definitely be ordering from them again. Fresh and delicious
I picked here for lunch because i loved their croissants. NOT ANYMORE. Server forgot to place our foods order, which is understandable, everybody makes mistake, right? BUT IT was NOT BUSY AT ALL. First of all, our mimosas came super late and my husband’s coconut mimosa was exploding everywhere on the table. Too gross to take picture so I don’t have picture of it. Mine was raspberry mimosa but it jwas not mixed just put 1 tea spoon of raspberry jam or whatever on top of glass wow. Since server forgot placing our foods order, we got our foods after an hour to be seated. And it was not even worth to wait. I don’t even know how old was my croissant it was so awful, horrible. Couldn’t even chew because it was too hard. How is that possible ? they baked all pastries own, someone didn’t show up to work in the kitchen? It was absolutely disappointing because I know their croissants was my favorite in Charleston!!! Apparently not anymore. My husband’s chicken gyro was extremely dried, no sauce in it and small. I don’t know how is that happened cause i told the server I don’t want dressing for my side salad not his gyro. I don’t know what happened i just can’t believe what I just experienced at here.
I give it two stars because my wife's falafel wrap was very good. But my dish (I think it was the saffron chicken?) tasted old, like it was made a week ago.
Awesome and tastes great, anything you order is great, go for the Napoleon Cake, it is worth it.
The food, service, and desserts we're all fantastic. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. You cannot go wrong.
Good food, portions are oversized. Definetly enough for two to share. Large assortment of desserts. And they are earth friendly being they don't waste plastic straws. Go green!
Disappointed with service, not server. She was overwhelmed with tables. We ordered 4 entrees and the food was bland. To make things worse the sweet tea was so sour it seemed like it sat out overnight. I spent 75$ with a 25$ tip and I expect more.
Tasty pizza and salad bar for lunch. Prices reasonable. Out of this world desserts.
How can Saffron be anything but 5 stars? Have you seen the desserts there?!!
My friend and I visited Saffron for lunch and was given the worst service ever!!! The waiter Jordan did not bring our drinks or food out in a timely manner served other caucasian customers that came in after us very timely while we waited,at the end of our service I simply handed my card to him to check out promptly due to having to leave for an appointment and he became rude..and snatched the check out of my hand.....when he brought the check back I extended my hand for the check and he sat it on the table and walked away without saying a word....is this how we treat minority customers!!!!!!
Saffron is my new old discovery... I used to eat there years ago when I lived in SC. A friend and I were recently looking for a lunch place with easy parking and that was easy to get to, I suggested saffron. Not only did she get a salad that was twice the size as a salad for the same price I had paid the week before at t bones but I got an amazing hot grilled chicken and vegetable plate for $15 great bread basket and wonderful service. I took my husband there last and dinner for 2 was $31.:-) . Amazing. Where else can you get dinner for less than 50 downtown ? Thanks. We will be back
This place has GREAT croissants. My favorite are the ham and cheese croissants. Shrimp and grits are good too.
Best Mediterranean food I have ever had. Chicken kabob was so mother watering and full of flavor. Didn’t leave anything on my plate. Years of quality and consistency.
Excellent food, good quality & quantity. Fabulous desserts.
Great tasting food, breads, and desserts. OMG, the desserts are amazing !!!!!!
Stopped in for an after dinner treat to take home earlier this year and ended up with the coconut cake and a peanut butter cake. About a year ago, a colleague brought me a box of treats from Saffron for my birthday and I was in heaven! Everything was so delicious...from the chocolate eclair to the fruit tart to the tiramisu and the red velvet cake!
Customer service leaves much to be desired...on top of that the food was not up to par with Charleston standards. She-crab soup should be re-named "She-Mad" soup because I was super angry I wasted money on it. Go to Gillies Seafood on James Island if you want authentic lowcountry food.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST...I had the shrimp curry and I tell you it did not disappoint
A Charleston Favorite! We really should take time to take pictures of their desserts, but they tend to get eaten too quickly! My favorite is the amaretto cookies or the berry tarts, creamy and rich!
The southern avocado toast was delicious! Coffee was very good too!
Great bakery brunch overpriced and not very good.
Medium rare steak came out a centimeter thick and hard as a rock. Mostly fat. Steak sauce busted everywhere by the time I got back to work.
Food is very good! I love their desserts especially. Big portions for a reasonable price. Place is baby-friendly, too!
Wonderful service and delicious pastries
Service was ok. Waitress not really friendly. Forgot parts of order and food was descent. Clean but on the expensive side for basic. Steak for the steak and eggs horrible.
The she crab soup was delightful, the service excellent and the bakalava scrumptious. Xoxo
Freshly made food. Good selection of deserts and the food is great. Very helpful staff. Parking is best behind the building than in front which is limited.
Food is always great. Waitress are always slow though.
Decadent pastries but I must say can be shared by two people because of their size. Fantastic staff beautiful layout come fill your sweet tooth desire these pastries are not your typical. From red velvet cookies 2 Kahlua cheesecake they are simply Delicious.
Always fresh delicious food and excellent desserts
Excellent variety of sweets and coffee as well as a modern and romantic aesthetic setting. We are visiting Charleston for the week and definitely will make a few more stops here!
Love love love! Cakes are fantastic! I have been to lunch there many times. Food is fresh and delicious. Sandwiches are made on freshly baked bread. They supply fresh baked goods for a lot of the local businesses including Harris Teeter. I go there for special occasion cakes every time!
Celebrated my niece's and daughter's birthday here. They had good
The greatest cafe in Charleston. It has a family feel yet upscaled in decore. The cleanest cafe i have been to. Tysm
Lots of vegan options!
Excellent Bakery and great breakfast, lunch and dinner selection. I highly recommend this place!
The best bakery in Charleston
Substantial portions and a great selection of middle eastern food like curries, gyros, humans. Also southern standards and the bakery case will make you drool! Comfortable dining room.
Food was good. Service awful. Waited over an hour once seated
Mainstay of downtown Charleston, made my wedding cake twenty five years ago. Owners are on the scene almost always, makes a big difference! Service and food top notch.
She crab soup was delicious but cold when brought to the table. Sent back to be warmed. Reuben was mostly saurkraut vs. corned beef. Servers were disinterested.
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff
A fantastic selection! Only complaint is that I can't eat it all Everytime
A big choice for sweets at the bakery and amazing food. Recommend the Lamb and Eggplant. Family friendly place.
This place was a surprise we already knew the cheesecake was unbelievable but the rest of the food for lunch was great very unusual Buffet
My recommendation is simple. Get your pastries to go. The baked goods are incredible. The service when you sit down to eat is painfully slow. Judging by the reviews I've read I'm not the only one to have experienced this.
Third time I have been here prior to going to symphony. Very disappointed each time. Last night salad was old and wilted with little flavor. Saffrons was once one of my favorites. Disappointingly it no longer is.
Thoroughly disappointed! I got a vegan burger. The bun wasn't toasted or even warm. No butter or anything on it,. And the burger was bland! I live in Charleston and something was definitely wrong with that she crab soup. Too tangy. Wait staff had been busy that night and it showed. I had not been there in a while and it will be a long, long time before I risk it again,
Excellent desserts. The mousse cake and cheesecake with fruit is to die for.... Their bakery had most delicious pastries and desserts. most of their entrees and salads are excellent. They are known for their shrimp and grits, a lowcountry favorite. If still available, their Sunday brunch is always good.
Subpar food here. You can find better tasting food for much cheaper elsewhere.
It's a beautiful place to eat the food is awesome and the desserts are delicious. The customer service was great also.i will be going back.
Nice place to eat. Sweet's are beautiful.
If you want to be treated poorly, Saffron Bakery is the place to go. The manager is rude and obnoxious, so that explains the employees bad behavior.
Excellent food and even better service. The portions are pretty big, so we didn't leave wanting (and had tons of leftovers). Pictured is a combo plate which was plenty enough for 2 people (likely 3) and was just under $40. It came with a large appetizer as well. The dessert cabinet was the shining star. Endless options and great quality
Lovely selection and a great place to meet for a business lunch. Attentive and fast service.
The croissant had a thick crunchy outside and an odd sour taste inside. Hot chocolate is steamed milk with Hershey syrup. Very sweet and over priced.
The meal is really good BUT all the bakery OMG!!!!!! And the prices very cheap for Quality and location Down Town Charleston
Please try to Saffron Chicken or the chicken kabobs. They were delicious, the location was great and the patio is gorgeous.
Great food good service
Awesome food and service...
Food is Ok, the bakery is good expensive menu though!
Nice place to have breakfast and freshed baked pastries.
Stopped on a whim and so glad we did! The young lady behind the counter was so friendly and helpful, she explained all of the MANY desserts they had (they have a HUGE selection of tasty desserts) Super friendly staff. Wonderful pasties and a great patio to enjoy our selections.
Awsome food! Save room for desert
Tasty but limited selection
The server was really nice and we got seated quick! The food came out fast. Taste was good but on the pricey side! They only have six parking spaces two which are handicap. You will need to park in a nearby garage or find a parking meter. As we were leaving the company that owns the lot behind the restaurant was putting boots on cars that were not authorized to park in that lot.
The food here is very good! I was in the hospital downtown Charleston after a surgery and ordered some food from Saffron to have delivered at the hospital because one of my nurses said that they have the best she crab soup. So I ordered she crab soup and the shrimp salad croissant. The she crab soup was very creamy and flavorful. The shrimp salad croissant was light and refreshing. The croissant itself was buttery and flaky. The shrimp salad was full of shrimp, it was delicious! Thanks Saffron! The nurse was right!
Poor service. So-so food.
Food was good. Environment was OK. Service was good too.
Tasted like my food was microwaved. The place seemed dirty.
This place was excellent! The owner was there and greeted personally. They have $3 mimosas and the food was awesome! Excellent stop!
Food can be better ...put some Love in what you do !!! Shrimp n Grits need some Love
My friends and I come here specifically for the strawberry short cake. It’s the best any of us have ever had. I wasn’t going to mention it but might as well in case the owners read, so a couple of days ago we went there and it didn’t taste as “light” as usual, and we all agree the lightness of the cake is what makes it THE best strawberry shortcake. We said maybe it’s just not fresh like we’re used to it being. And if that’s the case, well that just sucks that enough people aren’t eating it. Ok...it was a tad disappointing walking out because I’ve never gotten so excited over how great a dessert is that I go somewhere just get that one specific thing. Hope it’s not a change in recipe thing. I’ll give it another chance later on in the year. Crossed fingers!
Love going to this bakery. I have been coming here for 10+ years. The bakery can be hit or miss at times when it comes to the was items are baked. They seem to have several bakers so if you like your croissants one way they may be different each time you come back. The staff is friendly!
We just by chance saw it on the way back to our friend's house and decided to turn around. Best decision ever! The chocolate cheesecake was divine and so were the other sweets that we got! Take the time to go by there and try it.
I liked this place. All of the items were displayed beautifully, and my mouth watered over everything. I got a cookie, which was great, but one of the friends I was with got a few things, and they were all top quality. Bottom line: big selection, good sweets.
The foods is always great.
Oh My Goodness-hs e to visit every vacation. Delightful
Nice, casual middle eastern restaurant. Good menu selections to meet just about any taste. I had the shish combo which was very good. You will not leave hungry. Desserts are amazing. Definitely on my list of restaurants I will return to.
It was okay. Like, I got nothing bad to say about the place, but I wasn't impressed either. It's pretty good food.
Hmm coffee not good, cookies are good. Service it’s ok. Good ambiance. Pet friendly
Great food. Moderate prices. Good service. Bakery has huge selection!
This may have been my favorite bakery I've ever been to. Tons of different pastries and cakes all available in individual portions! We just got dessert, but it looked like they had a great menu for full meals as well. Everything was delicious!
I love the fresh pastries and different items that they have overall. my top favorite is there eclairs there ham and cheese and just their overall appearance and presentation. The people that work there are very inviting and helpful and have a wonderful personality. I will go here as often as possible. The prices are pretty decent for downtown Charleston.
Friendly service. Great food. The background music playing was a little too hip for a guy my age, but still enjoyable.
Awesome! The food is delicious as well as great and pleasant atmosphère.
Stay Away! The first time we ate here the service was painfully slow, and it wasn’t really busy. We decided to give this restaurant another chance. What a mistake. On the second visit, It wasn’t busy, but service was glacially slow if nonexistent. Asked for a few extra napkins when the order was placed, and then again when the food was eventually served (30 minutes later). Still no napkins. No one came around to offer more coffee while we waited. When food was served, the eggs, corned beef hash, and toast were ice cold. The French toast was cold as well. We did ask for syrup when the French toast was served, but the server stopped by another table to take an order, then she bussed another table, and then went off somewhere else. More than 5 minutes later she came back with the syrup. Never did get a coffee refill. We politely pointed out that after a 30 minute wait, we would expect that the food would not be cold. Server said that she was busy and that she was sorry. I wanted to take the issue to the manager/owner, but decided that my Sunday morning was already ruined. Never again.
Delicious! We went for breakfast and got a box of pastries to take home. I had the croissant breakfast sandwich and it was HUGE! The picture is the half I took home!
Great food grest service
I didn't know the restaurant was that good. I had the seafood platter "fried", it was DELICIOUS!
Good one near by
I really enjoyed tasting different desserts. Lot of options. Clean, and quality service. Friendly staff.
Best Sunday brunch buffet! You can eat breakfast items or lunch/dinner items.
My home away from home. I love this place been going since I was a little girl with my grandma :)
Too many desserts to choose from....lol Will have to keep coming back to sample them all
Food was awesome, service not so much. The waiter forgot we were his table after taking our order so we sat for a while before someone else came and took care of us. They gave us free dessert tho.
The place is very nice and looking fancy but it has poor management the bathrooms smells bad and dirty the foods not good. The dessert looks good tho but we are scared to try it!
Food is good. You get generous servings and you can go look and choose your desserts. Bakery take home is wonderful. Prices are moderate. Parking is in rear off Calhoun street
We loved this place so much, we came back for dinner that same day and breakfast the next day. The waitress was thoughtful, efficient, and super nice. They have European cuisine which my friend from Sudan thoroughly enjoyed. The biscuits were flaky and crispy, and everything the four of us had at each meal was just wonderful. We had to take our dessert to go, but our friends had theirs there and they were impressed. Whatever you order, you can't go wrong. It's also a store, so buy a loaf of bread or pastry to take home. And maybe some teas, jam or other European delights.
Not great. Avocado toast was just four slices of avocado placed on a dry piece of bread and another piece of bread with three plain slices of tomato. Fried egg was overcooked drastically when I ordered over easy. Overall not impressive at all.
Amazing pastries. Very clean. The condensation on the glass could be fixed but over all, amazing expirience
Very good food I highly recommend
Great place for bakery and desserts
One of the best Mediterranean restaurants in Charleston.
Nice casual place with ample dine in and take out options. The hummus is great, as are the other dips. Seating is plentiful and the waitresses are friendly.
I was told about this place from a lady who worked at the parking garage for the Gailliard Center. My daughter and I were looking for a nice dessert spot. She coulld not have been more spot on. From what I understand, this place has been in business for over 40 years. It is one of the oldest bakeries here in Charleston. Not only are the desserts to die for, but the people who work there are also very nice and kind as well. We will definitely be back. And, it was not very pricey which is also a plus!
I love Saffron. The staff is amazing. I absolutely love their food. Honestly anything on their menu is worth getting multiple times. The desserts and pastries are completely delicious! When you visit Charleston you should visit here.
Wonderful food and customer service!!!
Needs more restrooms, but altogether a great experience.
Great options. Close to the ferry and the aquarium! They have there own parking lot.
Table service is good. Food tasty. Prices too high for portions. Atmosphere was diner-like ecoes. Some of the pricing is a rip-off.
The server was very nice. I told her I wanted something healthy and a dry wine. She figured out the rest. Next week when I go there I will get her name. Diane Agapour, was also very nice; great finally getting to meet her.
Falafel was amazing but other food was not fresh at all. Very hit or miss.
Awesome breakfast...and good price
Very impressed on the service, atmosphere, variety of baked goods, layout of the bakery.
Good food. Lunch specials. High downtown charleston prices.
Awesome little local place for lunch with great desserts.
Had some delicious cheese cake after 1001 Nights from Spoleto at the Gaillard. Great service and tasty food
This cafe serves awesome food! The prices are excellent and the quality of the baked goods is exceptional.
Great breakfast, lunch, and desserts. Awesome place!!!
One of the best bakeries in Charleston if not the best!
Good place to eat.
Went for dinner, and had an excellent meal Shrimp and Grits, and a Ginger Sesame Chicken Salad. Very good.
No better place than Saffrons! It's a great local place that's been around for years, and in hope it stays around for many more!
The food was great! Wait time was longer than I cared for but, again the food was worth it. Short on staff. Many delicious items to choose from. Will definitely go back.
Great dessert selection. Their tortes are amazing!
Deeeeelicous food. I HIGHLY recommend this downtown Charleston restaurant to anyone who is new to the area or just visiting. The prices are reasonable. I have NEVER seen a dessert display like theirs ANYWHERE (and I travel a lot, to include six different countries so far)...
Saffron Restaurant and Bakery continues to be a local favorite. Everything on the menu is delicious and you would be crazy not to try a selection from the bakery!
Delicious pastries and friendly service! I highly recommend. Taylor is a great server! I had the baklava.
Went there for the first time for breakfast with some friends. The restaurant style was chic spacious yet very cute. The food was excellent and presentation was very appealing. They have an array of desserts pastries and ingredients to cook to choose from, will be a regular.
I know everyone is always about Kaminsky's for dessert, but this is really where you should go for dessert. So much to choose from, and a large, open place to sit and talk.
I had driven down to Charleston to have dinner, after visiting an art gallery and book launch at a bookstore. I was tired and the friend that accompanied me was tired and needed to drive back to their home. I barely touched my food but only asked for the entree to be placed in a carry out container. I knew I would be hungry by the time I reached home an hour and a half later. When I paid our bill, which was about sixty dollars, I found they had thrown out my remaining dinner and there was nothing left of that entreé. PERIOD. I was tired and after asking to see the management I got some of the entree I ordered. The manager just stared at me from across the nearly empty restaurant and I left. I have been dropping into this restaurant for years and had spoken to the owner from old Spoleto days. Sadly, it is far from what it was a year ago! The staff is either fired frequently, creating a high turnover of people who are new to work, not being a waiter or waitress. I could go on I simply miss the days when restaurants had to prove themselves worthy of our patronage! That day has sadly passed for many once reliable restaurants in Charleston!
My mini apple pie was to die for. Crust nice and flakey and the fresh apple pie filling was great not to sweet not to bland. There pasty case puts happy pounds on you just looking over it! Cant help but to try somthing or take home for later. Also found out they serve food as well. Will go to try the food section out soon.
Amazing desserts. Just wow.
Excellent bread! My favorite "shrimp curry" is a perfect blend between spicy and savory.
Yummy food and desserts, great service, loved the happy hour deals from 3-6pm!
If you want Mediterranean type food, this is the place to go in Charleston. Try the Kebob Koubideh as it is divine. They even have Aryan or Doughe, which is that Yogurt based drink, for those not familiar, which are very popular, well must have, in Turkish Persian Greek restaurants in the old countries.
Oh my gosh, love love love. Had a Mediterranean salad, delish and fresh! And the desert!!!! Got Greek cake, Napoleon, and amaretto cake. So good, and the waitress was very nice and quick.
The desserts are amazing. I went several times just for a slice (chocolate mousse cake, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, lemon tart). Then I HAD to HAVE a whole cake for my birthday. Ummmm, Ummmm good!
One of the extremely few places in the low country that makes REAL pastry! Please don't change the recipes! Yum!
Great food, great service, reasonable price...
we enjoyed a sunny day outside on the back porch. the lunch was tasty, plentiful, and the wait staff was excellent. parking is limited, otherwise 5 stars. prices for a downtown restaurant were reasonable. before you depart, visit the bakery items. WOW !
Love this place!! It is quiet enough to have a conversation...great for a business meeting or a quaint dinner. They have a gorgeous selection of baked goods. The owner is wonderful and the service was prompt. I had the house special ...Curry Shrimp....fantastic. They have typical American foods for less adventurous foodies. Buy some fresh bread and macaroons to take home....
Mixed Berry Shortcake was great. Service was awesome. You can pick out desert's and drinks and then be seated, but you don't have to dine in to sit down, but a dine in menu is available with Persian style dishes.
Nice for girls night out , business lunch and dinners, nice alone hide away spot with patio in rear, take your in laws to a nice reasonably priced Resturante. Didn't give it a 5 because the chairs are uncomfortable.
