I would give a&j bakery 10 stars if I could!! They take allergies very seriously and there's something for everyone! The prices are incredible even compared to a non-specialty bakery, I'm usually surprised when I get my total that it's not way higher. Other bakeries will upcharge because gf/vegan are trendy these days but a&j's is very reasonable. The staff is friendly and helpful - of course with allergies we ask a lot of questions and double check everything, but they're always patient and knowledgeable! I've tried other specialty/gluten free bakeries and products all around New England but a&j's has the broadest selection, best taste and quality, and best prices! I recommend the chocolate chip cheesecake and the new sunflower seed brittle.

When the bakery first opened ,Joe didnt do gluten free .I mentioned it to him and he must have heard about more people asking ..with in 6 months if opening was found gluten free items and now that has to be his winning items now..love Joe and his products !!

The items in this bakery are usually fresh, and good. However the products we received from the online store were overpriced (I get it, shipping costs etc) and almost every item was very close to the expiration date, and one item was bad upon receiving it. We are only one state over so its not like it was being shipped across the country.

I look forward to our visits to RI every year for the chance to visit A&J Bakery to stock up on biscotti. The flavors are great and they are reasonably priced, especially given that they are GF. We have also shared the 3-layer carrot cake with friends who enjoy it thoroughly and don't miss the gluten. It has a wee bit too much icing, but the cake is tender and the flavor is spot on. I wish I could get here more than once a year!

Love A&J! I have recommended this bakery to many friends. Love that you carry prepared food and gluten free ingredients for use at home. I take the 45 minute drive about once a month to restock and always grab a tasty lemon square! Can you make Portuguese sweet bread?? I really miss that since going gluten free. Keep up the great work!

Its super unprofessional to comment like that on the one star reviews. When you are a business owner, you deal with criticism whether or not you agree with it or think it's legit. That's a part of the job. It looks better on you to say "I'm sorry you feel that way, we care about our customers and strive to make their experiences better" than throwing a tantrum and accusing people left and right of being related to those you fired. It shows a lack of maturity, and that your pride is more important than your business image and customer experience. Take a step back and ask yourself what you want your customers to view you as. Take the opportunity given by negative reviews to show customers that you are willing to fix issues, because right now you look bad. While it may feel cathartic to make fun of people's spelling and tell them to get a job, it is childish even if you feel it is justified. Grow up, run your business like a business. Edit: it seems as though the reviews I was referencing have disappeared. Not sure what that's about. I'm leaving my one star review up and will add a few thoughts on my experience with this bakery. I haven't experienced any good service at all. Everyone I've interacted with there has been impatient and rude. The food was flavorless at best with an unpleasant texture. Ordinarily this would have warranted a 2-3 star review from me. However, due to the behavior of the owner that I addressed above, I will keep my review a 1 star.

I was initially very excited to find a gluten-free bakery. Lots of items,but no prices listed on them. I picked out brownies and when I arrived home,I noticed the women working there did not give me the brownie I asked for. Then I tasted one and it was a huge disappointment. No fudgie taste and top it off, my items were hard and stale. If I could give this bakery a minus rating I would. Sorry A&J Bakery,.thumbs down.

First time I was overwhelmed in a bakery. We went here and could literally eat most anything, which is a feat with our nut and wheat allergies. There are a few items with gelatin and for those avoiding animal products or pork specifically just read the labels more carefully. We had never tried pizza strips....delicious..now I see why people in RI like em. Pastry portio s are generous and everything was well made. Eclair was huge and may e had a bit too much frosting on top but amazing overall. Cannoli filling was great. Apple slice and fig slices are jam packed with fruit and flavor. The carrot cake tasted delicious but is a bit dense. Raspberry sour cream cake was moist and delicious and cinnamon rolls satisfied the hubbies craving. Will definitely be back.

IF YOU WANT FRESH, NATURAL GLUTEN FREE FOODS GO TO SANS GLUTEN ARTISAN BAKERY IN JOHNSTON, RI. The woman who owns Sans Gluten Artisan Bakery is a doctor who treated patients with Celiac Disease. Her two sons have Celiac Disease and they taste test all of the food; if her sons don't like it, the food doesn't make it to the shelves. You would never know the food was gluten free unless you were told - IT'S THAT GOOD. Her husband manages the store front. He gave both me and my partner free samples of baguettes and coffee cake, as well as free coffee. They take pride in their work and treat their customers and employees with respect. Posting this review for a number of reasons, but primarily due to the ownership's immature responses to their negative reviews. How do you know that the people posting reviews right now are doing it solely because someone was let go? You don't. Stop making those assumptions. You're making yourself look bad and attracting more negative attention. Instead of addressing the reviews from a place of concern and promising dissatisfied customers you'll do better, you're being downright rude. Do you talk to your customers this way? Not to mention your responses are riddled with typos and grammatical errors. It's hard to believe you can manage a business. Whether or not your customers are employed is irrelevant to the quality of your products and the way you treat your employees. But if you're going to tell your reviewers to get a job regardless, it may be worth reexamining whether or not you deserve to have one. My partner has celiac's and ordered a yule log cake around the holidays last year. The cake was oddly shaped and frosted white. It looked more like a yule tide bone. The tray of cookies she brought home were broken as if someone had dropped the tray and stepped on it while packaged yet somehow they made it to our home. Also, the frosted cookies taste like Crisco, which is clearly the frosting's main ingredient. If I could give A&J Bakery a 0 star rating, believe me I would.

My gluten free daughter gets discouraged because she doesn't get a lot of fun treats. When we received a care package from A and J Bakery, that disappointment changed in heart beat. Lots of yummy biscotti and cookies! Everything was obviously made with love and she loved every single bite!

Fantastic place with a great variety of delicious gluten free food. I love their muffins, pastry items, cookies and they also carry some brands you wouldn't find at your normal grocery store. Would highly recommend taking a trip down here any time.

It is so hard to find decent gluten free food not only does this place have many gluten free options they are tasty and high quality. They also have nut free options for people who have an allergy to nuts. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it

Amazing selections of everything you had as kids. Eclairs, cupcakes and many delicious pastries. Both fresh and frozen goods, some for now,some for later. Worth the trip, they make cakes.

The gluten free pastry here (chocolate mousse cake) is fabulous! I also purchased the cinnamon chip biscotti and tried it, I will definitely going back to try other things. To think that I'm just finding out about this place...mind boggling. It's been around for 10 years.

Good for nut free, gluten free, dairy free. They did mess up my order: I ordered chocolate cake with vanilla icing and they gave me chocolate for both. I was in a rush so I didn't say anything. It was good and glad there is a place people with allergies can go.

We have enjoyed A & J Bakery for many years. The owners are amazing. They very carefully screen all their ingredients so people managing a variety of dietary restrictions and allergies can safely enjoy sweets and other baked goods. And they are really food allergy pioneers; they created the first top 8 free gingerbread house kit in the U.S. as well as a number of allergy friendly versions of regional specialties. A&J Bakery is fantastic!

I've been gluten-free for years and thanked God when A&J Bakery opened up. I don't know what I would do without their spinach pies and oatmeal raisin cookies, soooo good! Oh, and not to mention their cannolis and chocolate eclairs, through the roof delicious! I am a frequent customer that buys not only for myself but my entire family as well, who are not GF and can't tell the difference. The staff are very friendly and the owners are great people!
