REVIEWS OF Screen Door IN Oregon

We showed up on a Saturday morning just before it opened... there was a line of at least 45 in front of us, so we knew it'd be great. It was great! Fast and friendly staff, great food and highly recommended!

I am from Georgia (the south) so I have high expectations for fried chicken. We ordered chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits. The fried chicken is solid. Juicy thin breasts with just the right amount of breading. They do over season their chicken though. Way too much pepper in the chicken breading. Besides that, solid fried chicken. Wasn’t a huge fan of the sweet potato waffle, I would’ve preferred a classic waffle. And the syrup was really watery and unimpressive. Overall not impressed with the chicken & waffles. The shrimp n grits here are fantastic though. Great seasoning and garlic heavy (just how I like it). Overall 4 stars because the food was a pretty good take on my hometown southern food. I also ordered Togo and they forgot to give me a waffle, so I had to drive all the way back and get it

Ellen Narita

The food here was the highlight of our trip. The fried chicken plate will be talked about for a long time. We also had fork tender brisket, amazing coleslaw, and gumbo. Our server was attentive and gave great recommendations. I understand why other reviews warned about the wait, but we arrived right when they opened for dinner and were seated immediately. Will definitely be back on our way home!

Gina Trovato

The interior was the cutest, hometown type diner. Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. It was juicy on the inside and crispy with a great flavor on the outside. Service was excellent, our coffee and water never got below halfway. The wait can be long and the waiting area is small so get there early! They also have a counter to sit at, which may or may not be first come first serve.

Ahad Subzwari

A must go in Portland. Top 3 brunches I have ever had. Shared dishes with friends and every single one was great. Chicken sandwich and mac & cheese were highlights.

Joey Zeigler

Good variety. Fresh, well prepared food. Thoughtful engaged service. We enjoyed their breakfast specials.

Paul Theis

Food was very good. Pretty small inside, so you'll probably have a wait. Our food did take a while to get out, but overall it was a good experience.

Daniel Du

If you thought you knew fried chicken and waffles, think again. The chicken was amazingly juicy and the sweet potato waffles really came through. The sweet potatoes offer a unique twist and are especially pleasing when contrasted to the savory flavor of the chicken. The chicken itself has a great balance of flavors without going too far in the spices department. If you have the time, definitely drop by. There will be a line to wait in, but it is well worth it. The portion sizes are also huge.

Lynette Blair

You'll wait an hour an a half on weekends which is tough ( I understand a lot of places are similar). The food can be a lil adventurous so dont go if you want the gen comfort food. Seating is nice only if you get patio, otherwise its quite crowded, very noisy, and warm. Service is great and quality of food worth it. 3 stars for the wait and seating, it was rough. 4 for food.

Kelly Nixon

Excellent! My family loved the food. I liked the pick 3 items for $16 part of the menu. It allowed me to pick the meal I wanted. The broccoli was so delicious. Very busy for a Tuesday night, a good sign that people love this place. The desserts were all home made, which is rare these days. The people beside us ordered the banana pie and it looked amazing. We were all too full for dessert. My son did not like the kids meal burger, and he knows his burgers, so I would avoid that. Other than that, highly recommended!

Archana Sridhar

Cozy brunch spot! This was recommended by a colleague for brunch and we ended up enjoying it. The food was great, with a lot of vegetarian options as well and service was prompt. I highly recommend the french toast and their coffee. It does get crowded on weekends and they do not take reservations, so expect to wait for atleast 10-15 minutes.

Yang Yang

The fried chicken is pretty awesome. I've tried lots of fried chicken styles, this is the one I like most. It is crispy and the chicken is really juicy!

Lorenzo Cecchi

I brought the family there last night. Delicious Southern food in the neighborhood. There is usually a wait. If you can, try to go as late as possible to shorten it. Place is nice but not too upscale, food and service are excellent. It has a great bar too. I have been going for many years. The menu changed a little and the dishes layout too. I honestly preferred the old classic menu. On a good note, fried okra is still done the same way, and still one of my favorites.

snydroponic

Highly recommend the Louisiana sausage hot link po-boy paired up with their habanero house hot sauce. Very good paired with the grits. A nice classic vintage interior, as well. Breakfast was available on the menu unitl 2, making it a very difficult decision.

Chris Aquino

This is definitely a tourist spot which is a bummer for locals since there was even a wait time on a Tuesday morning. The service was good and the food was great. I had the chicken and waffles and even though it was really good, there were leftovers since it came with so much! We also had the hushpuppies as a starter and those were delicious. If you have the time, I recommend stopping in, otherwise, there are plenty of other great breakfast/brunch options nearby to try that may not have the same wait time.

Amber Holten

Best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Whenever friends come to Oregon for a visit, we have to drag them up to Portland for Screen Door. Everything from the chicken to the mash and collard greens are to-die-for! Service is always warm and welcoming too.

Kamari M

Today was my first time coming to the screen door and I’ve always heard good things about this restaurant so I was super excited to see what the hype was about. It was one of the best breakfasts ever. I ordered the chicken and waffle and the chicken had the best crunch and season. The waffles were fluffy and delicious. I made sure to tip because the customer service was phenomenal. Most definitely will be visiting again.

Ivy Hover

There is a reason Screen Door is on every "must visit when in Portland" list. The menu is packed with rock-solid comfort food. It's always busy but the kitchen is on point. I ordered the lauded Chicken & Waffle (made even more delicious thanks to the addition of sweet potato BTW) and it was perfection. Piled high with crispy and juicy chicken, I just had to take a picture. Add a Blood Orange Mimosa and you are set for the day!

Charity Kurtyka

AMAZING FOOD & sweet tea! Only regret was that we couldn't eat outside. Sitting by the kitchen is never preferred, but happy to have a seat and a smile when leaving!

celine farrimond

Really great service here. Would recommend coming on a weekday to avoid crowds. A little loud inside but not bad even with a packed room. Good coffee as well. Pictured is the chicken and waffles with one piece. Waffles were delicious and everything was perfectly portioned. Can't wait to come back!

Finn Schade

Seriously, one of the top 10 must eat at restaurants in Portland. Moderately priced. Plan on a little wait to get in. But it's well worth it.

Michele Goldstein

Everything we had was delicious! The chicken and waffles was amazing and the bacon is worth a try but very sweet and sugary. Definitely come here with an empty stomach as it’s super filling! Not bad pricing either. Super long wait on weekend so I’d try to go during the week

Joshua Pedigo

UPDATE*- manager did resolve the issues. The food was delicious when we finally got it. However, we were still avoided by the service most of the evening. Communication would have been key to having a chance to cancel our order or make an informed decision to stay after waiting an hour for food. Still currently waiting for my food that is 90% precooked(brisket, pulled pork, mashed potatoes) ... 50 minutes later, server finally told us they are about to START on the food...

Alex Nguyen

My favorite chicken and waffles place! Everything is perfect. The chicken batter was delicious and never tasted any better waffles than here. The con is the small space and price but the price does reflect the quality. The take out does not give the full experience, tasted almost average when I did take it out one time. Very busy during weekends.

John McClelland

Nice relaxed place. We didnt have to wait - a Monday morning. Good coffee and food.

Victor de Leon

Still one of my favorite meals in Portland. The food is well worth standing in line and the crowded dining area. Absolutely top notch quality and flavors. The wait staff if positive and professional, that somehow manage to keep everything rolling in the small quarters. If you like comfort food this is some of the best in the country and definitely the best in Portland

Kevin Han

Amazing place for brunch! The food is very well executed, the service is excellent with efficient and friendly staff, and it has a lively buzzing atmosphere. I was recommended by several friends about this place so my expectation was quite high, but they managed to deliver such an excellent experience. I will definitely be coming back when I'm in Portland again!

Georgeanna

My favorite chicken and waffles. You just can't go wrong here. Expect a wait, but so worth it.

Megan Skogland

Server was very nice, but only came to our table at the beginning at the end of our order and we had to ask and then wait for more water and coffee. Food was good! Service was great when we actually got some!

Christina Phung

Visit Portland for the first time and my friend whom tried this place before recommend it. Ordered the fried chicken & waffles, juicy chicken fried to perfection, and the sweetness from the syrup, yum. Their praline bacon was super unique and tasty as well. Will definitely come back and try something else when I'm back in town! Love sweet and savory? Try their chicken & waffles!

Jerel Samuel

One of my girlfriend's and my favourite restaurant in Portland, we always eat at least 2 or 3 meals there and was never disappointed. So much we've even taken our customers there, other than the noise (which would also mean they're very popular, always full), the customers always loved the food, drinks and service. I'd recommend this place every day, all day!

Burgess Phipps

I've heard so much about this place that I was ridiculously excited to finally try it; and it certainly lived up to any and all expectations. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was surprisingly packed. Do keep an eye out for the clock, as they do temporarily close after 2PM on Weekdays. Because it was so crowded we sat outside which although it was sheltered, does get a little cold.

Amir Chartab Shargh

Yeah, it's that good. Simple menu. Great execution. A very casual atmosphere. Southern style cooking and great desserts. It's not fancy. But it is great food and very relaxed style

Starsha Frederickson

So good. We are in Portland visiting from Montana and looking forward to experiencing the Portland brunch experience. We went Saturday at 11 and waited almost an hour for a table. This place did not disappoint. My hubby got the special (brisket, potato scramble) and I ordered the classic chicken and waffles. Hubby's plate was empty by the end of the meal. The fried chicken was so delicious! It is peppery but when added with the warm syrup it is just right. I was hesitant about the sweet potato waffle but it was a good compliment with the spicy and sweet of the chicken and syrup. Also our hostess and waiter were amazing! It was super busy and they were very kind and helpful.

James D

Worth the wait. Pro tip -- go for an early dinner, the food is the same and you don't have to wait in a trendy line

Marc Liberts

cool spot with great energy in Portland. Theme is southern food. Started with the house salad which was real good. I had the barbecue combo platter which had brisket and pulled pork. Both were excellent. Coleslaw was outstanding. comes with three dipping sauces which are all nice. Friend had a hamburger which was gigantic and delicious. Friend had pecan pie for dessert which was very good. I had the layer cake which was outstanding and the ice cream with the lemon curd was also very very good. Service was good decor is fun and nice. Overall excellent dining experience. Highly recommended.

Pat Edw

Great food, atmosphere, and service. We arrived at 7:15 and were seated within 3 minutes. We got to drinks that tasted great and definitely did not skimp on the alcohol content. We ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, and the fried pork shoulder meal. Both were excellent. My favorite was the Pork Shoulder dinner. There were many interesting flavors that went well together. Our waitress was also very friendly and prompt with beverage refills and any needed assistance.

Lacey Forster

Incredibly loud and crowded, BUT the food is OUTSTANDING! The Banana's Foster French Toast was out of this world. I 100% recommend the food, but I don't reccomend if you get headaches easily or don't like crowded places.

Shervin

Was expecting a long wait but it was less than a hour. Food and customer service were great. Meals are definitely filling.

Kate Skuzeski

I had the pulled pork. The establishment is clean and the staff are wonderful. If you go on a weekend be prepared to wait for quite a while. I went on a weekday for lunch and had no wait at all. However the food is with the wait.

Christopher Koop

Fantastic Creole style food with incredibly friendly staff who are more than happy to go out of their way to make your experience fantastic. High on my list for food any time of day in Portland Go for breakfast and try the Chicken and Waffles!

Carrie Vereen

Seriously disappointing. I placed an order to go, it took them a half hour to get it ready. Ordered the brisket platter, $19 very shocked it only came with three half pieces of brisket. Damn, I can buy a whole brisket for that price. The hush puppies were terrible and had corn in them for filler. Also ordered the gumbo which had very little flavor, it was more like rice soup with tiny bits of meat in it. If you are from Oregon, you might like the food here because like most food in Oregon, it is bland with little flavor. The food however, does not compare to southern food. Would not eat here again.

Brooke Ottman

Went here for a friends birthday brunch. Busy on a Saturday as expected. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it was good but I wasn't blown away. Also my friend ordered a mimosa and I wanted one too but the wait staff seemed too overloaded to take the time to take the whole tables orders. I prefer Pine State Biscuits for food, coffee, and staff attentiveness.

iiyshaa youngblood

This place is phenomenal. The wait was long but worth it. The smoked brisket is to die for!!!! The collard greens and macaroni cheese are some of the best I've had at a comfort food restaurant. I highly recommend this place if you are searching for an amazing eatery in Portland. Also pair your meal with a mango lemonade, you'll thank me!

Morachnus

Long wait, especially for big parties, but the staff was so nice and accommodating. Great food too!

Victoria Gallagher

Friggin delicious. The beef brisket was super tasty.

Gary Yao

I had the best chicken and waffles here. The chicken was so tender and properly seasoned that I thought I was eating at some fancy pants restaurant. Mad props for the super friendly staff even though the place is busier than a New York subway station during rush hour. It's totally worth the wait. You can just put down your name and go walk around the neighborhood to kill time. There are plenty to see along Burnside Ave.

David Goodman

If you've got a hankerin' for some southern eats, Screen Door is hard to beat. More southern comfort food than BBQ, Screen Door has some of the best friend chicken you'll find in Portland, along with many other southern classics. The atmosphere is as southern as the food, boasting a beautiful and relaxing outdoor patio juxtaposed with a sometimes cacophonous indoor seating area. The only real downside to Screen Door is it's popularity, where peak wait times can reach up to two hours, although it is more often somewhere between 45-90 minuets. Well worth the wait, Screen Door is a can't miss spot in SE Portland!

Shaun Bengtson

Busy place, but worth waiting to get in! If you go around 1pm it starts to wind down a little. For sure try the cup of gumbo - it makes sweet love to your tastebuds. The chicken and waffles looks like the most popular order - very crunchy, peppery chicken and the waffles were some of the best according to those that ordered at our table. If you order an oyster po-boy change out the shredded lettuce with the coleslaw that comes with it and add a little bit of heat from the unmarked bottle on the table - tastes great!

Mr. T

One of our regular places to go with family and friends or just alone with the wife. We haven't eaten anything from their menu that we did not love. Great atmosphere. Servers are great too! I could go on and on.......

Brielle Sellers

Such amazing service!! Fantastic food and an overall great atmosphere. Not a long wait for such a busy place, will definitely be coming back!

Sherry Craig-Miller

We arrived 45 minutes early and stood in the rain. There were probably 15 people ahead of us. When the door opened people just crowed in in front of the people that were there first. We left after waiting that long. You need to have some kind of sign up list and some kind of line up order if people are going to be don't use. I was so disappointed. Please figure something out.

Pample Moose

Food was excellent however, this place is crazy noisy. Constant chaos and movement around your table by everyone. I go to dinner to have a good meal and relax. Not going to happen here. I couldn't wait to get out of the three ring circus atmosphere. Decor did not match the $35.00 per person dinner check.

Erin Williams

Found this place while on vacation. Great restaurant with many different comfort food options. The chicken & waffles are great as well as the sweet potato fries. The staff was super friendly.

Eli Lynch

It's the Screen Door. I've been going here forever and we always bring visitors there because it's THAT GOOD. I've never had a bad meal there. I've had everything not fish and can say.. I actually look forward to the collard greens. Nowhere else in PDX gets them right. We also enjoyed wonderful in-house made dessert. You've heard the hype. Believe it.

Albert Rodriguez

The wait was fourty minutes, but worth the wait. A lot of food, the chicken was the best and the praline bacon was a new flavor. Overall we would give this five stars. There is a small coffee shop next door, with seating that was very quaint and relaxing.

Annalisa Nigro

BEST CHICKEN AND WAFFLES IN TOWN. Plus everything else on their menu is amazing too! This is a must for breakfast lunch or dinner if you're in the Portland area. So good!

Kayla Silvey

Everything there is absolutely amazing. One of the best restaurants for breakfast/brunch fare I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. A little heavy (oily and dense) and large portioned, but good pairings and interesting flavor profiles.

N. Doe

I have some mixed feelings about this place. Chicken and waffles was just ok, Lemon ricotta fritters were pretty good, service was stellar and the wait was pretty crazy (full blown line by 8:30 am). My companion loved his shrimp and grits but I didn’t try them. I feel like I might be back to try again.

Karen M

The fried chicken and mashed potatoes are no joke. So good. The vibe and ambiance of this place is fantastic. Excellent service as well.

Ed Khan

This place came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Chicken and waffles were amazing. Shrimp grits were also good. Don't come here if your counting calories.

Dannah Rossignol

First time coming here for our 30th anniversary. It was a perfect start to our day. Great breakfast! Just a heads up for your first time... They are generous portions.

Jonathon Lopez

Some of the best Southern\Creole food in Portland! I love their gumbo, chicken, and Mac and cheese. Definitely with the wait you will inevitably will have to endure. Be aware that they do not take reservations and the entire party must be present before being seated

Vivian Dang

It is a bit of a long wait but definitely worth it. Hands down this is the best fried chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. I tried some of my friend’s praline bacon too, and that was delicious as well. I will definitely come back here the next time I visit Portland.

Ellie Voelker

All I can say is WOW! Friends had told us to come here for breakfast, so we did and now we know why! The service was excellent, with very friendly staff. We were seated right away in a cozy booth and served tea and coffee. Highly recommend the waffle if you are looking to indulge in a treat. Such great flavors all around, we will definitely be back.

Smith Glady

Definitely worth the wait. Decided to go a Monday morning thinking it wouldn't be packed, wrong! Waited about 30-40 minutes to be seated. Food and service was excellent. Tried the praline bacon and it was as good as advertised. I had the shrimp & grits along with a cup of gumbo. Good dish, the tomato sauce was a little runny but had good flavor and the shrimp is large and tasty. Gumbo was good but a lot of rice. My wife had the chicken and waffles. Chicken was fresh and crispy, she wasn't a fan of the waffle as it had too much cinnamon in it to her liking but I thought it was good. We will definitely return.

Ramona Gonzalez

I avoided screen door because there were always so many people in line for brunch and people would just rave about it nonstop. Went today with my sisters for brunch at their insistence and I'm happy to report that this place has the most delicious chicken and waffles ever! I had a taste from my sister. The eggs Benedict with the creamed spinach were unique and delicious. Drinks were strong. Will definitely be going the again

Shannon Wilkins

Worth the wait! I had the cathead sandwich. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection. The biscuit was HUGE and the gravy was delicious. It was crowded (an hour wait) but service was great. Never felt rushed to leave. The chicken and waffles looked like a meal for 3. I will try the pancakes next time!.

michael christensen

The best chicken sandwich on Earth I dare you to find one better ....please let me know because this one will put you into a state of euphoria LOL the waffles were excellent to stay away from the gumbo I didn't like it stay away from the hush puppies dipped in molasses didn't like it the craft root beer was pretty good

S Elizarde

This is the second time that I have eaten at the Screen Door and it does not fail to deliver. This time we ate from the breakfast menu and it was scrumptious as always. I live in Lacey, Washington and I do not mind the drive to eat here.

Mackenzie

Oh my gosh, I finally made it here, and the 45 minute wait was worth it. Me and my friend went and decided to take other reviewers’ advice on what to order, and so, thank you all! She had the Chicken & Waffles, and I had the Praline Bacon! Both of them were to absolutely die for. Not to mention, the cute bartender there whipped me up a delicious Bloody Mary to complement it all. We ended up staying there hours longer than we had expected, but our waitress was so amazing! She laughed and joked around as we gushed about what we were talking about, and it really made an impression on us both. I would seriously go back here just to chat with our waitress again because she was hilarious hahaha. But in all honesty, if you’ve seen all the good reviews and are thinking of going, you need to! It’s by far one of the best little brunch spots that Portland has to offer!

nova mclaren

This was my second time at Screen Door, and this time was for dinner. Get the buttermilk fried chicken! The crust is golden deliciousness and the chicken was most and tender. The mashed potatoes were swimming in sour cream! The pulled pork was also very good, and paired perfectly with their slaw.

Sandra Radford

All,I can say is you will have to visit this place when you come to portland, the fried oysters are cooked to perfection, the chicken and waffles are golden brown, best yet! The candied bacon literally melts in your mouth!!yummy!

Melanie Transparenti

Food was amazing and cocktails well made. Worth the wait as it is always busy. Chicken and waffles are a must and the banana foster french toast was soooo good!

Solomon Smith

Yeah, it's that good. Simple menu. Great execution. A very casual atmosphere. Southern style cooking and great desserts. It's not fancy. But it is great food and very relaxed style.

Gabrielle Monaco

I ordered the one piece chicken and waffles and a side of cheese grits. Everything was fantastic! It was just the right amount and I even had enough to take home some left overs. The chicken was phenomenal. The batter had lots of pepper in it and was crispy! The waffles were more dense but not too sweet and went perfectly with the chicken. The grits were good, too!

Adam Fry

This place is truly a staple for Portland. The service the attitude and the vibe is spot on! The food is great here with great flavor and nice balance of each one. The waffle was not a stiff waffle on the chicken and waffles, but more on the soft side. I am not a fan of the soft waffle with that. Also got the French toast that was excellent! I would try that again! A nice sweet flavor with a bit of savory toward the end. The biscuits and gravy was good but not mind blowing. I felt it lacked pepper. The meat was the and the sauce consistency was on point. I just needed something to round it out. I felt the vegetable scramble was a bit odd. The potatoes were over cooked and crunchy and burnt. The dish didn’t make sense with the red sauce. I would return.

Diana Vitela

There is always a waiting list and it’s totally worth the wait. The restaurant is always packed, they have seating outside also. The chicken is always juicy and has just the right amount of kick to it! Sweet potato waffles are to die for! The drinks were great, especially their blood orange mimosa, recommend it! The over all experience was great, the waiters and hostess are always friendly and very helpful.

Mark Wilson

Love the bacon and chicken and waffles. All of their food is delicious. Try to visit during the non peak hours or be prepared for a substantial wait.

David Castle

Delicious! Food was amazing and service was great, and I found a new favorite cider. Didn't love the Vegetarian country gravy but I really think this has more to do with my tastes than the dish itself. We will he back when in Portland.

Zak Purvis

Wow the food.. very very yummy. You cannot beat the breakfast food. You should see the creations. The food is excellent. It is however quite busy. I would recommend this to anyone. The building is on the small side so plan ahead for potential waits.

Brianna Sumpter

I'm from Houston, I was born in Louisiana, Screen Door, thank you for not straying away from the original recipe of Love, laughter, Life of Louisiana! Great people to talk with! Everyone great place to visit when in Portland, Oregon

Vacay Lvr

Got there around 1:45 p.m. which was just before they close at 2:30 p.m. and only had to wait about 10 minutes. The blueberry lemon curd pancakes were delicious and the pecan crusted bacon was awesome. The shrimp and grits was very flavorful, grits nice and creamy, just wish there would have been more shrimp. But the lemonade was the BEST I've had in years. I would go back just for that. Gonna have to go back to try the dinner menu.

pilgerweise

Prefer the Pine State Biscuits on Alberta St over Screen Door's fried chicken. They still have a decent fried chicken waffle dish though.

Danelle Hungerford

Despite being busy, we were able to sit right away. Service was friendly and quick. Bloody Mary had some heat but was very good. I had chicken and waffles, which I highly recommend! I got the one piece and it was still more than I could eat. Very fair pricing as well.

Melody Tang

This review is based on our experience with dinner, not their famed breakfast/brunch. Even at dinner time, if you want to avoid the long lines, either arrive 30 mins prior to opening time (5:30pm) and wait outside on the benches, or show up around 8pm once the rush has died down. Be aware the restaurant gets very crowded and noisy, so if you're claustrophobic you may want to think twice. We came as a group of 4 adults and 3 children, including one infant. They were very accommodating and provided kids' menus with coloring books. We ordered family style so everyone could try more items and it worked out great: the buttermilk fried chicken was out-of-this-world juicy, with a perfectly crispy, herb-seasoned crust. Mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. The barbecue plate was stacked with smoky flavorful meat. Cole slaw was fine, not particularly memorable. The cheddar chive drop biscuits, however, were incredible. I wish I had ordered a dozen of these flaky, buttery guys to take home. We also ordered gumbo which came with a scoop of rice to spoon up all the deliciousness. Although we were pretty much stuffed by the end of the meal, we still splurged on a couple slices of pie. These were just as generously portioned and tasty as the rest of the meal.

Matthew Gilbert

Stop reading this and go. Opens at 5:30 but get in line before 5:15 if you want to get in on first seating. Buttermilk fried chicken is the best.

Claire Campbell

I got the special, which may have been my own mistake. The pork shoulder scramble was just ok. For an hour wait, definitely should have been better. I would go back for the chicken and waffles though, something that everyone else in the restaurant seemed to order, because it looked really good.

Brikia Cephus

As we approached the place, straight off the plane, we could see the line of people before the actual building. Luckily it was a holiday, so street parking was free however, the wait was 45 minutes to an hour! We split the cat face chicken biscuit sandwich, candied pecan bacon, shrimp and grits and pulled pork scramble. The shrimp and grits weren’t the best I’d ever had, but were good. The pulled pork in the scrambled lacked flavor and needed some sauce. The fried chicken was seasoned to perfection and had a golden crispy crunch to it, and the biscuit was moist and soft, making the cat face sandwich the best of the menu items we selected. Apparently, there are different menu items for non-holidays that we will have to come back and try. Overall, good food, great coffee and service at Screen Door!

Heidi Duran

Consistently delicious whenever I'm in town. We did go during the week on the early side so did not have to wait. I got a breakfast brisket hash and loved it.

Norma Lilia

Disappointed. The reason for giving this restaurant two stars is due to my past two experiences. The first time the waiter put in the wrong entree which by the time the food came out I was too hungry to wait even longer for the right food to come out so decided to eat it. The entree was waffles and a long strip of bacon which was covered with some kind of maple syrup batter (did not like it). The second time around the service failed yet again, the waiter took a long time to bring out the khalua to go with my “warm” coffee. By the time the khalua came out my coffee had gotten cold. For the quality of the coffee, most certainly not worth $7. I ordered the chicken and waffles as soon as the waiter greeted me, waited over 25 minutes before I asked the waiter where my food was and he said it will take “a while longer” which I replied how much longer, he proceed to say that some times the food can take up to 40 minutes, I was appalled as I watched the couple sitting far next to me get their food although they ordered after I did (it was the meal I ordered). No restaurant that sells chicken and waffles should take 25 minutes to get the food out let alone 40 minutes. To be fair, the chicken and waffles were delicious but the service was unacceptable.

Arthur Garcia

Delicious. Got here Monday morning maybe 15 minutes to open and we were in the first seating. The heated outdoor patio is the spot to be. As for the food, amazing. Get the biscuits and gravy with the sausage gravy. I got the chicken and waffles with 2 pieces of chicken. I probably should have stuck with 1. The chicken was crispy and tender and tasted yummy against the waffles. My wife had the shrimp and grits, which she also said was good, but I know she was jealous of my food.

Clark

Came here specifically for the chicken -n- waffles. It did not disappoint! Got the one piece option. Beware: the chicken is HUMONGOUS! Not a bad thing at all, it’s basically the size of the plate. I can’t imagine ordering any of the larger orders, as I had trouble just getting through mine. The chicken is perfect. Breading has black pepper, and is tasty. The waffle is great too. Enjoy!

Victoria Dixon

Super busy and small establishment... line wraps around the corner before they even open. Food is great, and you have to try the praline bacon.

Devi Archana Das

Fell in love with their blueberry lemon curd pancakes. They're to die for! Absolute care has been made in making the pancakes. They've blueberry stuffed in them through each layer so well that you just keep digging. The waffle and chicken was way more heavy than expected and ended up eating in half way through! A must visit place if you can survive through the wait time :)

Always delicious food. Breakfast is killer (Dinner is good, but if you only get one choice I'd vote breakfast every day of the week). Great service but definitely expect a wait (especially weekend brunch). Chicken and waffles is mouth watering scrumptious!

We had an incredible dinner at Screen Door. After viewing the reviews and not wanting to wait for brunch we opted for an early dinner instead. Walked in at 545 with no issues and had a great mint julep to start. We shared a beet salad that had a wonderful horseradish sauce, and I had the seafood of the day while my husband had the bbq platter and my daughter the chicken fingers. Everything was delicious and we could not have been more satisfied with our meal. Service was helpful and attentive. We will be back!

5 stars don't even come close to the ranking that this place deserves... The food reminded me of growing up in Kentucky... So much so the Ban-offee brought a year to my eyes... The food and the service and the atmosphere are second to NONE!!! You will be doing yourself a HUGE DISSERVICE if you skip on eating at this place... And the sweet tea was on point as well...

I'm from Memphis TN and I can tell you first hand that this fried chicken is heavenly. You will not regret it! It was crispy, had excellent flavor, and super juicy. The mashed potatoes were the perfect match for this delicious chicken. I didnt have the gravy on the mash potatoes. They were super fresh and creamy as is.

Great food. Great atmosphere. Waiter was awesome. Can't remember his name (Gio?), but he had awesome Nintendo tattoos! The chicken is to die for!

The food was ok. It was recommended by a local. Not recommended for a vegetarian or vegan. Their most popular dish appeared to be options that included fried chicken. The wait time for a table was short (week day during lunch time) but the wait time for a server was much longer.

This was my second visit to Screen Door and I enjoyed it much more for breakfast than for dinner. The fried chicken sandwich was great - especially the gravy, but the cheesy grits were a little bland to me. The portions were giant and fairly priced, and everyone at the table enjoyed their meal. The service was great - although they was a delay with one meal at out table for six, but all in all, the food came out quickly and the server was attentive. While we didn't wait to be seated at 9:45 am (on a Thursday) , the place was packed during our entire meal and there was a line by the time we left an hour later.

Love this place! The staff are awesome. Great food!

Always a long wait for Sunday brunch. Always worth it. Everything here is top shelf in quality and the portions are large as well. Last trip I had the low country shrimp and grits with a side of praline bacon. Just amazing.

This place is a must when exploring the Portland food scene. The fried chicken is exceptional. If you can manage to save room for dessert, try the Banoffee pie!

Super busy on the weekends and could probably use more staff, but other than being overworked, our waitstaff did a great job. Food was spectacular. The tables are jammed in there pretty tight and they could use to loose a couple simply to help maneuver a bit better in the room.

Service was excellent. The wait wasn't bad at all. The food was as good as advertised and it was a perfect day to be seated on the patio. Couldn't have been better except if I had two stomachs.

I mean I don't know to start everything we had was delicious our server and I believe he said his name was Newton he was amazing, always checking on the table making sure we are okay things were alright. He was just amazing the food was amazing I love the atmosphere reminds you of like that southern down home kick back kind of restaurant. I was told to wait would be long but it really was like 20 minutes so not long at all. I also had some smoke chicken wings that was an explosion on my test buds.. I ordered the screen door plate I had to smoke chicken wings the macaroni and cheese and the greens. My daughter had the cheesy grits and shrimp and my other daughter had the cheeseburger.

Absolutely amazing Chicken Waffles and Cider. If I weren't so obsessed with that item on the menu, I would definitely try everything else out!

WORTH THE WAIT!!! Portions are very generous, the wait staff was busy but very friendly. Kitchen was pushing out picture perfect plates. Nothing was sloppy and my was wonderful. If you are a bacon fan, you cant skip on the praline covered bacon strips, also the server recommended their Cathead sandwich or chicken and waffles for a reason, but still the choice is yours! This is definitely my go to breakfast/brunch spot next time im in Portland.

We used Screen Door for my mother’s celebration of life, Katie couldn’t have been more helpful in helping me plan food for a very important event. My mother loved her ribs. She helped in picking the appropriate food for an Open House and her assistant Allison set it up and picked up the dishes and equipment. They even supplied take home boxes so our guests could take home food. The food was delicious & held up well, would highly recommend their catering service for any event.

The Fried Chicken and Waffle is amazing, with perfectly cooked chicken - moist and flavorful. Also, the Praline Bacon is ridiculously good - completely worth the indulgence. Excellent, attentive service.

This place was amazingly authentic! Loved the food and atmosphere. We WILL be back!

Excellent service Ordered Chicken & waffles Blueberry & Lemon Curd Buttermilk Pancakes Praline bacon The fried chicken was amazing. Seasoning and flaky batter was so good. I'd pass on the waffles but I'd go with the waffle from "Roscoes Chicken & Waffle" to go with my fried chicken. Next time I will get their Fried chicken & biscuits.

Hot damn. Worth the wait. 10/10 would go back and wait in line. Chicken x waffles is the best I've had. Everything was delicious actually.

The BEST mac and cheese, cornbread, and fried chicken EVER. My husband is a chef and has traveled the world. He shed a tear when we ordered from here. Hands down, best food and best prices. It's our FAVE spot now!

Tom Kirkland

So e of the best food I've had in awhile. Service, food, drinks, and atmosphere is on point.
