Fantastic bakery to pick up a delicious sweet treat on occasion, but they really stand out when it comes to their cakes. They did my wedding cake and it was by far the most delicious of all the places we went for tastings. Their prices are very fair and our cake was absolutely perfect! In addition if you order your wedding cake through them they offer you a small anniversary cake that they make as a replica of the top tier of your wedding cake, for free!! No freezer burned cake, but fresh and delicious!

I got married 8/4/18 I purchased my cake there over a thousand dollar ,I was told I didn't need to keep the top for my anniversary as they will give me one for free on my anniversary. So when the time came I called, they asked me to sent an email with picture of the cake and me cutting the cake which I did.but I never got my anniversary cake not even an email back. They will do anything to get your business but won't keep up with their promises. The customer service is so bad.

They were very unkind to my mom, who wouldn't hurt a fly. She had ordered a cake one week in advance. She asked if they needed a downpayment and they said no, just to pay when picking up. The day of the party she went to pick up the cake and nothing had been made. The owner was very rude to her and told her it was because she didn't pay a deposit. When she told him that she asked and the person said to pay in full the day of pick up he replied with, "That person is new so basically you're out of luck." My mom was so hurt and had to scramble to make her own cupcakes to have something for the party.

I began using Capital City a couple of years ago. Since the French Loaf in Grandview closed, I had been looking for a place that could do a really good red velvet cake with a pure cream cheese frosting. My son had seen Capial City and suggested I give them a try. I ordered a red velvet for my grandson's birthday and it was fantastic!! All cakes since have been equally great! Most recently I needed a special cake when my oldest grandson achieved his 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. I gave them some pictures and sketches of what I wanted, talked with one of the decorators, and the finished product was amazing! Their attention to detail was phenomenal! I love their shop, their staff, and their products are over the top!

They messed my daughter's first birthday cake up and was told I'd get a complete refund back and when I went in to get the refund I was told that I was already given a refund and as far as they were concerned, the transaction was done. It's a shame because all I was looking for was for them too make it right but was made to feel like it wasn't their problem and I was hoping too use them for my other two kids birthdays that are coming up within the next couple of months but it looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere

Would just like to say that i was extremely disappointed with this cake that i purchased for my husband's 40th birthday. First off, I wanted a BLACK cake, not red and blue, not white and black lettering, BLACK. This is not what I picked up. Second, when I called to tell them that the cake is not what I wanted the owner refused to admit any fault in the misunderstanding, saying that that was indeed what I had ordered and that there was nothing wrong done on their end. Finally, When you walk into their bakery you see these gorgeous, very high quality cakes on the walls. Well, this is EXTREMELY below par for what I though i was ordering. When I took the cake back to receive my payment back in full, the owner did not apologize or even agree that this was a very poorly decorated cake. I mean they spelled FORTY wrong! and this is supposed to be a professional, high quality cake place. But according to the owner, I "only payed $32 for it". ONLY. So, if you are thinking of ordering a cake from Capital City, just know that if you are expecting the quality of those that are on the walls... well you will be very disappointed.

Over the years, I've bought a lot of cakes from Capital City Cakes, and never once have I been disappointed in the flavor, decoration, or customer service. The price is on the high end, but after trying some of the other cheaper bakeries around town, I'm confident that they're worth the premium if you're celebrating a special occasion. The decorations are seriously top-notch. When you ask for flower decoration at some places, you get a handful of identical flowers in different colors, flat and 2 dimensional. When you ask for flowers at CapCity, your cake gets 2-3 inches taller, and the flowers look real. They really are works of art.

My daughter got married on 8/11/18 and had a beautiful wedding and reception with the exception of the cake. Capital City Cakes promised to deliver the cake between 2:30 & 3:00. Our guests were scheduled to arrive at 3:30. At 3:40 the owner showed up with a cake that was a mess. It had smeared icing on one side that looked like it had banged into something, there were broken roses, gashes on one side like a lid of a box had hit the side, and there were crumbs all over the top layer. He saw that some of the flowers looked loose and with his dirty bare hand he pushed the flower back on. The owner said he would run back to their bakery and bring back some supplies to fix it. About 20 minutes after he left the roses started falling off the cake as all the guests watched in horror. About 4:40 the owner and a lady returned to start the repairs. They started to make the repairs in the middle of the room filled with 200 guests. I walked over and said to take the cake to the kitchen out of the view of all the guests. They repaired the cake and brought it back out. It still had the cake crumbs on the top layer and flowers that weren't the same color. There were about 3 shades or salmon color and some ugly white flowers. It looked like they had gathered up what flowers they had available and just put them on the cake. Capital City Cakes turned out to be the most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with. It's sad to have a once in a life time event ruined by the actions of one company. Now I plan to wait and see what they plan to do to right this terrible situation.

I've had their cake in the past and really enjoyed it. So i really wanted to order a cake from them...and was willing to spend a lot of money. However, when it came time for me to order cake from them..I had been emailing them back and forth asking questions...to which they suggested setting up a consultation. So I tried setting up a consultation over email...no response. I called and left a message and asked them to please return my phone call...no response. I should not have to beg for their business. That is not how a company should be run.

I absolutely LOVE this place. They are so nice and helpful. Their prices are fantastic and they do AMAZING work. I got my wedding cake from them almost 3 years ago and it was awesome. My husband had a cake made for my birthday this year and it was fantastic. My most recent experience was right on par with the last two. I ordered a full sheet cake for a work party. All I said was "I want 1/2 vanilla, 1/2 chocolate, put this picture on it, and write Farewell 640 on it." They asked what color I wanted and I said I didn't care. They suggested fall colors which I agreed to. What I got was a BEAUTIFUL cake with fall decorations, the picture, and the words I requested. It was ready on time and was delicious. Everyone loved it! Another A++++++ job from them. I will only go here for all of my special occasions.

I have ordered 2 different custom items. One being a cake and the other being cookies. Both times the attention to detail has not been good. On our cake the bow was the wrong color and the fondant icing was inedible. The cookies were not the right colors either. For the prices they charge everything should be 110% perfect to how you order it. Might give them one more chance to see if they redeem themselves but I'm not holding my breath.

My sister ordered a cake in person with the owner over a month ago and sent an email follow-up with instructions. We when to pick up the cake and was told the cake had a white baby instead of a black baby. We ask them to fix it and they took almost 2 hrs to get it somewhat right. They deviated for the cake request we gave them and the finished product was disappointing. No credits or compensation was given and all we were told was that’s the best they could do when the correction was made. Helpful hint- hire a diverse staff or don’t take a job you cannot deliver on.

I recently went in Capital City Cakes to help get ideas for my father's surprise Hawaiian theme birthday cake. Sue the owner sat down with me for a long time and went through a variety of options of what we can do. Her patients with me were amazing because I asked 8 million questions. However, while I was talking to her I had my 2 year old with me and she noticed they were getting restless. Out of the kindness of her heart she gave my child a cookie which made them happy. Which made me so thrilled that I knew from that moment I wanted to do business with her. Even though I didn't buy a cake on that day, I did return to purchase the cake we spoke about. They did our wedding cakes....we had 4 of them. One was in the shape of a my wedding dress, one was a tuxedo, one was a bible and then we had a traditional one. They were AWESOME! They even made us a free cake for our first year anniversary (from the cake we saved for tradition). I have been back for cakes for Valentine's day, and birthday's. I've had mixed experiences with Capital City Cakes. The first cake I ordered from here turned out fantastic. The girl that was working was nice and helpful. We ordered a character from Jeff Dunham's puppets for a party and we had zero complaints. However, we recently went to order another cake for a birthday party. We wanted a beach/ocean theme that had a shark, mermaid and a Jeep on the beach. We were open with the shape of the cake. We worked with a really nice girl at the counter who was going between my husband and I and the bakers. Long story short, we were asked to bring in pictures because they couldn't picture what we were asking for and because of that they couldn't guarantee that it would look good. On top of that, we kept receiving dirty looks from the bakers during our visit. My second experience here will be my last.

Okay...where to start exactly...the cake flavor was very good. But it was not the flavor that I chose. I chose a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting, and the cake tasted exactly like a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. I chose a picture from their website: it was a rustic looking 2-tier cake with the icing thinned in some places. We had to provide the fake flowers for decoration because that is apparently what the bride did for the picture that I had chosen from their site. So all the bakery had to do was provide us a 2 tier cake, in the flavor I specified along w/a dozen cupcakes. That came to a whopping $330. The cake and cupcakes were MUCH smaller than I thought they'd be. I told the bakery that the flavor was nothing like pumpkin, spice or cream cheese; they apologized and said they'd pass that on to the owner, but I've heard nothing from them since. This bakery does a nice little favor of providing the couple with a one year anniversary cake free of charge, but I'd have to post pictures of myself and my husband on their Facebook, happily eating their cake. But that would be a lie. I was very disappointed with our cake. I feel like if a cake is going to cost over $300, it should be incredible. But all our cake ended up being was a lightly frosted, plain cake, the wrong flavor, in which they inserted some fake flowers that we bought (another $60...).

My husband and I used them for our wedding cake. We had 200 guests and wanted a 4-tier round 14inch cake. I gave them a picture of what we wanted and they replicated it to a "T". It was PERFECT. Ordered a cake for a baby shower, was disappointed once my husband showed up with it. I was promised the bottom layer would be the White Birch look and it was tan. Did not match what I asked for. Also, requested the top layer be white cake and bottom be chocolate. They were the opposite. Will not use them again, especially after paying over $180 to feed 35 people.

Went for a cake consultation after having it scheduled for over one and a half months and after confirming at a soirée and over-the-phone the day of to be told that all of a sudden they do not do consultations on Saturdays normally. Then told, “it’s okay, but you’ll have to pay $25 fee,” then we tried to leave, “oh, we’ll waive the fee.” Never was told of a fee prior. Terrible client service and experience. Avoid at all costs.

Today was my sons 6th birthday and when I called to ask when it would be ready I was told they didn’t have record of my cake order . They did not charge me to taste my sponge before hand . The lady was very kind to my son . They did have my cake done as promised .I feel like the cake looked a little rushed. It was very yummy . My son loved it . It was the talk of the birthday table . I’m happy to support small businesses . The family who owned this place is very kind . I will be back because the didn’t charge me my very first visit to taste anything and left a good first impression . For that I can give the benefit if the doubt . They bust their bums day in and out so we have the pleasure of enjoying their wonderful creations .
