My husband and I found this little bakery on a weekend vacation in the upper west side. Lots of options! Both of our breakfasts were delicious. (I recommend the Cruffin!) Loved getting to sit outside and enjoy the start of our day.
Conveniently located on the UWS, Silver Moon Bakery is a local favorite with the quintessential atmosphere commonly found in your classic slightly cramped, rustic style and yet bustling baked goods establishment. I bought the chocolate chip brioche and chocolate babka. The brioche was amazing! I loved the darkness of the chocolate filling contrasted with the granular sweetness of the sugar sprinkled on top. The chocolate babka on the other hand left something to be desired. It was certainly dense with chocolate and had nice braids but I wish the chocolate flavor was less sweet and more akin to the deepness of the chocolate chip brioche. Overall a great bakery to check out if you're on the UWS and I will definitely stop in again to try out other things!
Excellent! Line out the door it's so good. Gluten-free options exist but are limited. More gf options would be good. Most pleased with discovery of their savory, less sugary options. Plum tart and savory cheddar chive scone are delicious (and don't give you the sugar crash)! More gf and savory/less sweet options, please!
I always pick up an almond croissant from Silver Moon whenever I visit the Supermud pottery studio. The almond croissants are as good as, or better than Bouchon in France. Flaky yet moist, loaded with almond paste inside, topped with tons of toasted almonds outside, and dusted with just the right amount of powder sugar. So lucky to have such a bakery in NYC!
This place is charming and a staple in my neighborhood, The UWS. I come here for coffee and the occasional pastry, which are delicious. I truly enjoy sitting at their outdoor cafe, where you can pleasurably take in the view. I gave it four stars due to service. Yesterday I stopped by for just iced coffee, and after waiting for around 3 other patrons to be served I politely gestured to be dispatched and the male cashier pointed at another person (who walked in after me) he would attend to next. After seeing this I asked if in order to be served I had to order from the bakery. The owner happened to walk by and genuinely apologized, and notified me that the line was 3 feet from where I was standing - I was right at the register (I didn't know this, but the 3 servers had opportunities to advise me and didn't). But, what made me cringe was that as I was walking out, and the only customer in the bakery at this point, a dark skin Hispanic female employee states to a male Hispanic cashier, "Y Ella?" (Translation: "What's with her"). Although the experience was upsetting, I will continue to visit Silver Moon, because the owner kind of made up for her employees rude behavior. Nevertheless, I feel it was disrespectful and should be addressed by management.
Very good
Great breads!
Love their Biscottis
I've been here several times and the food is cheap and great. Just 2.60 for a baguette! You can even see the bakers making the stuff in the back.
Reevaluating// 1. Great bakery! But the people working here are not so frendly :( Maybe because there are enough customers even though they don't try to be friendly. Reevaluation// 2. Their staffs got nicer and they still have really good bread and pastries. It's good to see the staffs working so hard all day! Certainly recommendable.
Delicious challah, and the best macarons I've ever had.
Great breakfast! Thanks for Nataly
I had a Palmier, Shamrock cupcake, and an apple tart. They were SO good. Probably one of the best bakeries I've ever been to so far
Not as good as it once was but still high quality
Cookies were very dry. Cupcakes lacked flavor
Really good neighborhood bakery, I'm european and I grew up on french bread and pastries and Silver Moon is the only place I go when I want decent bread or something sweet in the weekend. Haven't tried anything I did not like until now, from sourdough bread to brioche or cranberry scones, they are just great on everything and would really deserve to get into the top 10 of nyc bakeries...
Almond Croissant, raisin brun muffin, and a coffee make perfect mornings.
The best bakery around town..It hasthe best canolies and cupcakes which are very moist not dry. the bread is fresh and and the coffee is good. Service is great.
Please please buy their sourdough baguette and chocolate orange roll. They are just so flavorful and delicious.
It's fine.
Fresh™
I'm addicted to their chocolate brioche and cinnamon buns! Best treats in that area of NY.
A Nutella bombolini is what you want!
Sufganiyah (Jelly donuts) were weak - basically no jelly and they didnt even taste fried. Like bread with sugar on it. So disappointed!
small items are good but overpriced. their breads are not as nice and are mostly cheaper white flour and not always very fresh for the prices they are charging
Great Chocolate Orange rolls unfortunately only on weekends
Tiny bakery with a steady line. Small area in front to sit and eat outside. Lots of fresh bread, pastries, etc. Almond croissants are very flaky and coffee was really good.
Great bread, unusual varieties
This is a really great neighborhood gem of a bakery. It's a good place to buy bread, cakes, tarts, or smaller treats (pastries, cupcakes, cookies) My only suggestion would be to arrive as early as you can since they run out of the best items and long lines can form.
Apparently, quality control is spotty and fairness to customers is not a serious value. I bought an egg shaped cake for Easter dessert that was described to me as a strawberry short cake with real cream within the decorated icing. At $37 it was a bit pricey, but from what I heard of the Silver Moon the cake would be worth it. Needless to say, my guests were dismayed and I was embarrassed to find that beneath the icing there was only cake and a few stray bits of strawberry. When I asked for a partial store credit and complained to the manager that this was not the strawberry short cake described to me and in no way worth $37, he simply and firmly stated that it was store policy not to refund or give credit. Beware.
The items are available fresh everyday!!! "The early bird catches the worm"
(Translated by Google) It was very rich, the coffee, the mini apple pies, and other sweet treats that we tried, very good attention, there is place outside to sit and enjoy the delicious things that they prepare, we liked it very much! (Original) Estuvo muy rico, el café, las mini tartas de manzana, y otras delicias dulces que probamos, muy buena atención, hay lugar afuera para sentarse a disfrutar de las cosas ricas que preparan, nos gustó mucho!
Adorable bakery with a great selection and great coffee
Nice place to sit enjoy the bakery
Top notch upper west side bakery with wide selection of pastries, cakes, pies and bagels. Friendly and quick service, but note that there’s no seating inside, however there are a few tables outside. Personally got the blueberry ginger muffin and thought it was spectacular. Brightened my whole morning.
Lots of sweet pastries and quick service on a busy weekend. No places to sit inside but they have outdoor seating
Genuine french pastry. A real gem.
Way overrated. Tried their creme brulee, cinnamon rolls, tarts, cupcakes, cookies. All very meh. Bread is quite good though. Don't come here for a dessert bakery. Come here for the bread. Reminds me of visits to France.
Best bread and bakery in NYC!
High quality bakery
I've yet to try anything other than the chocolate croissants because they are too tasty to pass up. One day I'll take home one of the loaves of bread or the other tempting-looking desserts. It always smells incredible inside and the coffee is pretty good.
I enjoy sitting outside with a decaf coffee with some cocoa powder, a brioche and doing a crossword puzzle. So relaxing
Delicious fancy bakery. I love healthy bread. Pricy but it's worth it .
Excellent tarts. Go early.
Delicious breads
One of my favorite bakeries in this neighborhood or even in the city! Everything from a simple loaf, flavored baguette to pecan tarts and cakes was perfect. Very limited seating and lines are usually longer in the morning.
Little bit expensive Tasty coffee Nice bakery Excellent street seating
yummy treats like strawberry brioche. If you come in the late afternoon it isn't crowded and pastries are half price.
It's my favorite bread, cookies, cakes...........Thanks guy everything is so yummy!
Very Nacy
love their coffee
Great pastries and bagels. Lavazza coffee as well which is also very good.
Lemon tart is wonderful! Tasty, fresh lemon and very delicious! Thanks!
Great selection of breads. Pastries have just the right amount of sweetness in comparison to most bakeries that over-sweeten things. The eclairs and biscotti are a must-try. Friendly service to boot!
EL "Lugares que ..." Panadería
Great!
Love the pizzas in this place.Everyday is different. Amazing and delicious. If you come to Golden garden, you can pass by to get a pizzas or a piece of scone as a snack.
My absolute favorite bakery !!!
Cute little bakery, great croissants. Would avoid iced lattes though--have had it twice now and it's a cup of milk over ice with splash of espresso. Better off going to plowshares for coffee across the street.
Cute bakery near Columbia! I had their chocolate chip brioche and it was to die for. Come earlier in the day to get it before they sell out!
Nice rolls and delicious other things. Unfortunately you can not sit in the bakery for eating.
From other reviews it sounds like you should stick to the bread. My pastry should have been sold as a day-old yesterday. Decent coffee.
Best baguettes West from France.
A great bakery, best on neighborhood
Artisan bread and cakes.
I've always had a wonderful experience going here. The pastries and sandwiches are really great and they offer outdoor table service in the warmer weather. On the weekends it can get a little crowded, but it's well worth the wait. I'd consider going here every day if it was a little closer to my apartment.
Was told by a friend that I HAD to try this bakery. Wish I'd gone before the end of my trip...raspberry tart is the best I've had outside of Paris, and the Gruyere puffs were yummy. I couldn't decide, I'm glad I don't live here, you'd have to roll me out of the bakery!
Fantastic neighborhood bakery. Fresh breads, baguettes, challahs, and breakfast pastries. The service was a little grumpy in the past but has been friendlier as of 6/2012.
I love their mixed berry tart, one the best bakeries on the UWS.
Good breads. Line moves quickly. Very small space
Good hot chocolate and tasty brioche !
My favorite bakery in the neighborhood. Bread is fresh made everyday. Love the crunch outside and soft inside of a baguette! Almond croissant is so good, so does chocolate mousse, raisin and walnut roll, yum.
I had the best sandwich ever here. Avocado with bean sprouts and fresh baked bread. Delicious!
Best bakery in the area. Hands down.
Bad service, rude staff. They routinely ignore and skip over people who have been waiting in line. I always end up just walking out.
I love that place! Fresh baguettes, nice quiche, really good macchiato and friendly service (but slow, it's always full!).
Go there frequently. The people are nice and food is good. Always changing menu for special times of year
Baguettes! The brioche were also excellent.
Everything's great, tried for the first time 3 years ago and the quality has been maintained. Try any of the rolls!
Great macroons and vanilla lattes
Nice small place. The smell of baking was very nice. I tried the iced coffee which is good. and i like the tart their. But the sandwiches are average.
Awesome place to have breakfast
Best baguettes in the neighborhood - they have the perfect crisp crust and super soft inside - and super friendly and efficient staff. New this summer, freshly made, all natural ice cream!
The brownie are the best
I love Silver Moon, but they're a little pricey. The best thing is a muffin you can only get if you're there early in the morning.
Croissants, Baguettes and delicacies better than any in the area and cheaper than going to Paris!
My favorite bakery in NYC. The whole loaf of olive rosemary bread is out of this world delicious and the pastries like the chocolate chip brioche are right there as well.
Il pane più buono che ho mangiato a New York.
This bakery makes the neighborhood a better place
(Translated by Google) Delicious snacks (Original) Bocaditos riquísimos
Love how environmentally conscious you are! Thank you!!
Their pastry and cakes are delicious!
Absolutely fantastic pastries and bread. If they made a chain.... I would be so happy!
Real village type bakery Delicious sandwiches. Fabulous baguette
Great bread, but SLOW service. I go every week to get bread and love their offerings, But the staff is SLOW and does not understand the need to pay attention to the customers on line and to fill their order in a timely manner. They are more interested in socializing among the other workers or taking a break. As a result there is ALWAYS a line out the door. Management should train the staff better. Don't go if you are in a hurry.
Delicious, fresh, reasonably priced, clean, nice staff., Excellent quality.
Our morning go-to spot for coffee and an almost-infinite assortment of in-house baked goodies. sidewalk seating to watch the world go by for a few minutes. A little slice of heaven.
I usually get tarts from here. They're always delicious.
One of the first places I ate at when I moved to New York. I really love the California Bun, which is essentially a giant cinnamon bun. Yum. Silver Moon is a great little neighborhood bakery. You can smell the bread and goodies baking from the street, and when the weather is warm, they put out tables to enjoy their fare in the sunlight. The food is great, and so is the service! If you're a soda drinker like me, they haven't had Diet Coke a few times that I've been there, but you can easily go down the street and grab a soda somewhere else.
Croissants that can please a French-trained palette, flaky, rich and yet light; plus a full line of fine pastries and bread. A small sidewalk cafe plays a supporting role; the staff are New-York-City efficient – don't waste their time and they won't waste yours – and handle long weekend-morning lines with zest.
World class French bakery on the UWS. Great baguettes and croissants. Chocolate chip cookies and chocolate brioche are fantastically rich.
I ordered a galette for Three Kings Day, and it was such a big hit at the party. It tasted as good as any I have eaten in France. I also brought a Decadent Chocolate Cake to a dinner party Monday night. It was not the first time I have bought this cake. It was a big hit Monday night, and it has always been a big hit whenever I bring one. I usually bring biscotti wherever I go, as the biscotti are also a big hit. Last Monday night, I only bought the Decadent Chocolate Cake, but everyone was disappointed that I did not also bring biscotti. These are only a few of my favorite things from Silver Moon. I have been buying their items since they opened, and am so happy they are here.
Very bad customer service.

Ordered a chocolate cupcake and the frosting tasted like it was a little moldy, the macarons were pretty taste-less as well, skip this place.
Wonderful neighborhood bakery, with a wide variety of breads.
During the weekend I see the long lines extend out and people sitting outside. Live up the block and first time visiting the bakery. Decided to stop by and check out what the big deal was. Turns out the Lemon Tart is my favorite and the Biscotti. The Lemon Tart was perfectly well made. Creamy, tasty, the crust is well made, and you can taste the subtle taste of the lemon. I will try to go back and navigate my taste with some of their other products. Bit pricey, but I guess it is worth it.
Very nice bakery with the best staff and great food to take out or eat in the couple tables they have on Broadway.
Good place, but small and rather expensive. Waited 20 mins in line outside on a Saturday morning as they were understaffed.
Neighborhood bakery with enormous selection of baked goods. Friendly service. I bought a chocolate chip brioche with a coffee, and sat outside in the early spring sun, enjoying it while seeing the neighborhood walk and talk by.
As if you needed another reason to love Silver Moon, they switched to paper straws!!
They don't know how to make cappuccino
If you love great bread, pastries and coffee, stop by the Silver Moon Bakery.
Used to come here all the time,,, one of the best bakeries in New York. Especially their baguettes are more than exceptional. Are usually go for the Fig & pepper baguette. On the weekends, you got to have the chocolate and orange baguette. Good coffee too!!
I live one block away and get bread here every weekend along with an espresso for the sidewalk. Absolutely love this bakery and feel so lucky to have it in my neighborhood!!
Rugelach was incredible. Perfectly moist and delicious. No complaints here!
They always have something you want in their charming little store. The food is very good, I highly recommend getting their Cinnamon Roll or their Bavarian Pretzel. Their baguette is always fresh, and always good. The people that work behind the counter are really nice and friendly. They have a wide variety of things to eat, including Pastries, Smoothies, Bread, and even Dog Bones! The only thing that Silver Moon lacks is seating and space. When there is a long line in the shop, you do not have any space to move. There should be more seating because outside it might be raining, or there might not be any seats, and you might really want a seat.
Liked the chocolate almond croissant, coffee was so-so. Good neighbourhood bakery!
Is amazing and delicious bakery
Wonderful local bakery with best baguettes in the area (prob all uptown nyc) and a lot of sweet baked goods too.. Too bad they don't have a way to seat people in the winter, because they only have outdoor tables
Freshly baked bread Got a berry tart and a smoothie, they were all good
I hate it
Delicious pastries!
Best challah in NY. State.
Best location for specialty cookies and breads, in this part of the city!
The best bakery on the UWS. The brioche buns are heaven, but so is everything else I've bought here.
A great neighborhood bakery with excellent baguette and other breads. Desserts are quite good too. The service can be harried, but I think only because they are so popular and busy.
My order was just OK, nothing memorable
I usually avoid ordering macaron, but this bakery has just changed my mind. The same with cupcakes. Although I am not into chocolate chip brioche, there are still many choices offered. Silver moon bakery is really special. Friendly people working here. Love the atmosphere.
The bread is tasty
Ok
Quite pricey. I go in for the bread and they are not worth the money. The rye, whole grain and pullman breads are somewhat tasteless, albeit with good texture. The service could be gloomy and lackadaisical depending on the cashier. Overall, this bakery is not worth the high price, especially when it comes to bread.
Great service, fresh food, tables right in Broadway. We had Mozzarella sandwiches and fresh squeezed lemonade.
