Staff was friendly and helpful :) The place is quiet, beautifully layed out. The food looks like out of a photoshoot, and tastes just as expected. Oh god. The savory scone could be one of the best things I've ever tried. The brioche donut was great, the filling was heavenly. The coffee was a bit too bitter for my taste, but not enough to take a single piece of star out.

I had high hopes for hot chocolate, which was supposed to be "real", but it was still the disappointing American style of chocolate sauce mixed with steamed milk, which tastes nothing like the real thing. They run out of their signature brioche donut by second half of the day, and the pastry I got instead was nothing to rave about.

Absolutely amazing pastries and friendly staffs. The shop has a nice space to sit around and enjoy your sip of coffee with a bite of delicious cookies or cakes. I tried their brioche donut and chocolate explosion cookie, and they were on point as they had delicate level of sweetness and richness of flavors. They also went really well with the tea I had (jardin tropical). Pastries were not overpriced (mostly around $5-$7), and I would visit here again to try their cakes and other pastries.

I tasted a sampling and everything is wonderful - the brioche donuts are to die for. I died of happiness with every bite. You don't need cronuts when you have Mah-Ze-Dahr.

This bakery has THE BEST chocolate cake. What makes it so delectable is that it's just simple chocolate cake made with high-quality ingredients. Once the sweet and smooth chocolate ganache hits your tongue, you know you've had a bite of heaven. The chocolate cake is moist and not too sweet, so you'll definitely want to take bite after bite of this one. Around the holidays, they appeared at the 2018 Bryant Park Winter Village. I got their popular brioche donut, which SURPRISE TO ME, had light and fluffy vanilla pastry cream in the center!

Want to start by stating that this review does not reflect the cooking staff— the baked goods are phenomenal. As a local, I’ve been to Mah-Ze-Dahr many times and staff interactions have always been courteous and professional. Unfortunately my experience with a specific staff member was abysmal. I was anticipating placing larger order for a group breakfast. As I began my order for 3 items on a tray of roughly 12, the staff member with red hair cut off my order, informed me that she could not include those 3 items if someone else in the line wanted them. Not only did she proceed to ask the three customers behind me whether they would like to purchase said items— she also took their orders. Even if there were 9 additional customers in line, I’d still find this style of service highly obnoxious. Hopefully (and most probably) this was just an anomaly due to the specific staff member rather than a lapse in how management believes customers should be treated.

Phenomenal pastry spot! Cheese cake is to literally die for--I had three strokes for one yummy bite of that cake. And yes, it was worth it! Solid coffee, cozy ambience. Be prepared to shell out a couple of massive $$. Again, totally worth it!

Every pastry I've had here is divine (and I eat a lot of pastries). While Dominique ansel is great, I always recommend this place instead for out of towners. Seats are hard to get but definitely get some cookies to go (especially the lemon ones!)

I stopped in here early on a Sunday morning as part of a 5 bakery tour. This beat out Breads, Baked, Dominique Ansel, and Magnolia as my favorite. The brioche donut here was incredible and memorable. The chocolate chip and chocolate explosion cookies were also spectacular. The brownie and banana bread deserve some credit as well. I get the feeling I could try everything else from this place and it would be quality. I will be back, especially to try the cheesecake.

This shop has a wide range of cakes, pastry, favorites, and soft-serve ice cream. The beautiful textured donut-like treats are quite good; the chocolate and carrot cakes are rich and at the same time astonishingly easy to devour. The coffee is quite good as well, with hot drinks and cold brew on tap both from Intelligentsia. The shop only has paper, unfortunately: no ceramic cups are available for coffee. The staff are helpful and helpful, and invest effort in keeping the shop and very clean inside and out. The cafe has a few tables in the front, facing the service counter, as well as a single communal table in the back room, separated by a narrow hallway. The shop has a single, clean bathroom in the back.

We went to this place multiple times already, first had a hazelnut nutella brioche, it was very-very good, the taste was absolutely on point, not too sweet, and the toasted hazelnut on top is insane! The devil's chocolate cake is good too but could be less sweet, and the seasonal pumpkin cake was just ok. What I absolutely recommend is the cheesecake, it has a slightly lemony taste, it’s so fantastic. The staff could be more friendly, though.

This bakery has many positive Yelp reviews. I went for their famous original sugar coated donut and wow. One of the best textured donuts I've ever had. The space itself is large with plenty of seats, outlets, and bathrooms in the back!

I’ve never been to a cafe that refused to take my money before. I went in to buy a hot chocolate, and they wouldn’t take my $5 bill! There is something fundamentally wrong with a business — especially ones that sell small items like coffee or muffins — to not take cash. Mah-Ze-Dahr bakery is a bakery for the elite. In order to buy a muffin from this bakery, you have to have a bank account or a credit card. A muffin! Anyone with 5 dollars should be allowed to buy a muffin. Don’t you think so? Please don’t go to this bakery. Don’t support a business that rules out poor people and children (the people most likely to have cash) from their customer base. Everyone should be welcome to buy a muffin or some hot cocoa if they have the money. Mah-ze-Dahr doesn’t think so.

Few pastries are tasty but that's it. My boyfriend and I immediately spotted the place to spend some quality time on our Saturday mornings. Unfortunately, as always traveling and exploring different spots, the service at Mah-Ze-Dahr is unprofessional which is a shame considering the owner is a lovely lady with extraordinary baking skills. Coming every weekend girls at the counter need to be reminded that we stil did not get our coffee. One of them pushed my cake to the plate with her fingers without gloves while the other one cleaned table next to us with the same napkin she cleaned the floor. NASTY!!!!

Mah-Ze-Dahr is a pastry shop that is hit or miss. The young lady with curly hair and glasses that works there on Sunday afternoons is very rude, she's always there Sundays and she needs to be retrained or fired. For a third time visiting on a Sunday, she's got low emotional IQ and poor customer service. The upscale baked goods shop sell slices of cakes, scones, cookies and nut-filled, square bars called Mah-Ze-Bars. Expect to pay top dollar, I paid $45 for a small box of goods.

"Best Cheesecake in New York" not in my opinion! Look, it's good cheesecake, the chocolate based crust is a nice twist, and consistency of the cake was great, but it had too much lemon. The lemon overpowered that rich smooth Cheesecake flavor. It was quite good, but not the best Cheesecake in NYC. Also I tried the Brioche Donut and it sounds better than it tastes, much like the Cronut.

everything i've tried here was SO good. the atmosphere is elegant but laidback, there are so many lovely, different kinds of pastries. their brioche donut is really tasty and the custard is so delicious, you can see the flecks from the vanilla bean. their choux also has the same custard and it is unreal good. can't wait until they have soft serve!

It's a beautiful space and the pastries are pretty good. Personal favorites are the gingersnap cookies, the banana bread and whatever brioche pastry they have. They really put a lot of thought into their space, it's all calm and muted greys and blues, all their bags are on brand, and they even special ordered their colors for the m&ms they use on their soft serve. The only con of this place is the soft serve. I had the vanilla, which was a little gritty/icy, as if it didn't have enough fat content. The vanilla flavor just wasn't there. My boyfriend had the chocolate soft serve, which was very sour and also icy. It was odd and off putting. Maybe it was just a bad batch but it was hard to eat and not worth the price. I'll still be back, just not for the soft serve.

Cute shop with ample space in the back. Walked in at 7:45pm, service was excellent but apparently it’s a no go on getting cake this late. Raspberry ganache cake slice was extremely stale, so threw most of it away before leaving. I might return to try some of their other products, but beware for goods left over at night !

I love the simple design of this space. It's a nice spot to relax and have a cup of tea and delicious pastry. It wasn't too crowded and they have a nice communal table in the back if the front is too busy. We tried the very dense chocolate brownie and the brioche donut period of the two, we like the brioche donut best, but the brownie was good too. I do need to go back and eat many more of the pastries. They have a good selection of Teas which I appreciated as a tea drinker.
