Not impressed with the food as it was very bland and didn't have any sauces in it. I asked for jalapenos and got 4 from a jar. I thought this was supposed to be "authentic". I had to also ask for hot sauce which was a squeeze bottle at the counter. I've eaten better Mexican food in Texas.

I feel like more than just a regular here, these people treat me like family! Best mole poblano and enchiladas suizas in manhattan! Everything from the salsas and the crema to the jugos and horchata is made from scratch daily! Downtown bakery is a gem to the neighbourhood!

It was okay, but I didn't feel like it lived up to the many 5-star reviews. It felt fairly authentic as far as Mexican food goes but the flavor of my burrito was pretty bland. It was also mostly rice with only a little bit of the other ingredients. I prefer more flavorful burritos. I won't likely go back.

Ordered cheese Nachos and Shrimp Tacos to go. The Nachos were just chips beans and cheese. Ingredients were missing and the shrimp tacos were bland and came without any sauces...

Popped in earlier this afternoon for a quesadilla and 2 tacos. Front guy was nice. Quesadilla was just chicken and cheese, no pico or onions and peppers, but not terrible. However, the 2 tacos were awful. They were literally 80% lettuce, 5% beans, and 15% COLD CHEESE BLOCKS - did I miss the memo on this? For $8, I expected 2 proper, warm tacos. Had to throw these out. Had I looked before hopping in my car, I would've returned the tacos. Disappointing.

One of the best original Mexican spots in NYC. Still great food and great prices. I consistently get the enchiladas suizas with camarones (shrimp) and it is delicious! Best salsa verde in town, but be warned, it IS spicy!

This restaurant has a plethora of options which accommodate many dietary restrictions. It's atmosphere is part of the charm yet the food is the main show here. Breakfast burritos are by far some of the best in the East village.

Huaraches are what they are known for but we have also tried their tostadas de tinga and tortas and they are as delicious as the huaraches. Aguas frecas are great to. Service is always very good.

This place is not going to win an award for its “most romantic atmosphere” but definitely for its food! The chairs and tables are a bit shabby but that doesn’t matter because the food is superb! Had a super delicious veggie burrito for $8 which is very reasonable.

If you want real good comfort food this is a good place to go, the food here is terrific. Very tight seating space but if you want take out or delivery you won't be sorry, the food is authentic mexican. Neighborhood folks love it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

There wasn't anything actually wrong with my carne enchilada torta. But when I took a bit, it didn't all fuse together into one awesome taste like some of my favorite places do. Maybe it was the bread. Call me traditional, but I like a round, not so crusty, definitely soft piece of bread. Not long like a hero, not with sesame seeds. The meat was simply okay, and cheese and beans didn't do their job at bringing it all together. It's very possible I'm being nitpickey here. The place was decent. But in a town like New York where there are more good Mexican options than people give it credit for, I'd recommend trying something else on the menu.

This place got a B on their health rating. And let me tell you, it earned that B. That’s a generous B. This place is pretty unkempt, but it makes damn good Mexican food. Haven’t gotten sick once. The guy at the counter gives the place epic personality. This is a NYC cheap food staple. Doesn’t charge you until the end if you eat in, that’s legend service for what you’d expect. Don’t change a thing Downtown Bakery, we love every grimey inch of you.

A great, very unassuming cash-only(!) Mexican spot that I don't go to often enough. My most recent visit, I got a chipotle chicken burrito, to go. To begin, the service was excellent - the place was actually closing up but the guy behind the counter waved me in and then patiently helped me decide what I wanted and with my customizations. I ran to the pharmacy next door to grab cash and came back to a huge, ready-to-go burrito. It's quick, but not suspiciously so. The taste was great! Ingredients are appropriately balanced - lots of chicken, not overstuffed with rice, and the chipotle sauce poured over top was hot and flavorful. Honestly, a really well done food operation.

Any place with a C rating from the health dpt that's been around this long MUST be awesome. And it is. Yeah the burritos are great per the rest of the reviews, but the enchiladas are also excellent. Enchiladas suizas is always the way to go. A regular stop for me, for very good reason.

The tamales are excellent. That’s a litmus test for me. They don’t serve them in the husk which is fine. A huge menu with a large variety. If there is something you want and it is not listed just ask them. Best for takeout and to get something quick. The food is authentic and it’s a great value for the neighborhood.
