REVIEWS OF WildFlour Bakery/Cafe IN New Jersey

I have heard very good things about this place, read the great reviews, and was so excited to bring my daughter here who was diagnosed with celiac 6 months ago. We went today and this was actually her first time out since being diagnosed. We were super excited to be out with her and got a table. Within the first minute of sitting down, the waiter brought us all out water with paper straws :(. I’ve been reading a lot about paper straws and the use of glue to hold them together containing gluten. I went to the front of the restaurant and asked to speak with a manager, but there was no one on duty and I was told they are between managers right now. I explained to the staff working in the front about the paper straws and they said that they didn’t realize that and I could tell they felt badly. Needless to say, we were all very disappointed and felt too nervous to eat here. This was a pretty big oversight and I became wary of any other products that might be used while cooking, prepping, etc... I’m very sorry to give this place a negative review, but felt like I should make others aware who suffer from celiac or may be sensitive to gluten exposure. We did not eat here and decided to head home for our meal. Very upsetting and disappointing :(.

Small place. Excellent gluten free bakery.

I had never been here before and came for a small company holiday party upstairs. I learned that they're also a cafe! It's hard to spot the place from Rt 206 since it's narrow, a house, and sits back off the road a touch. There's room for about 6 cars behind the building and then there's a very large gravel lot behind that. There's a sidewalk that connects the two along a hedgerow. Our meals were yummy and the cookie decorating was fun. Staff were much fun to spend a few hours with.

I am so grateful for this place! I've tasted many of their offerings and have not been disappointed. Specifically, the carrot cake and Brazilian cheese puffs are superb!

Omelan Stryzak

Bought a gluten free cake from WildFlour to accommodate my gluten sensitive guests - best choice ever! Also, whenever they (GF friends) visit, this is our primary choice for food. ^_^ I really like their baguettes.

We found a nice shady spot outside to sit. Wildflour salad was very tasty. The apple caramel crepe was fantastic. My friends pizza looked amazing. Good service if a little slow.

CL Hart

Excellent selections, especially gluten free food. Food taste really good and filling with great presentation.

Portions are ridiculously small for the prices. Ordered the bean burger and taste was good but the size of the burger was that of a slider. No condiments like mayo even available! The portion of chips accompanying the burger was also very very sparse and the accompanying "salad" was about 1/4 c of lettuce with no dressing and no other veggies such as tomatos/carrots etc so clearly not a salad. For $11 this was not worth it. My companion ordered an omelette with toast and that was decent size with 2 nice sized pieces of bread. The accompanying fruit cup was literally 1 strawberry and 2 grapes cut up - again embarrassingly sparse ! This was my second visit for a meal and I won't be back. Last time I ordered the quiche and the size of the slice of quiche was ridiculously small and the accompanying soup very tasteless. Again the "salad" was just some lettuce as described above. They could clearly do so much better! Sad to say they are taking advantage of consumers desperate for some gluten free choices with no chance of cross contamination.... The pastries and the cakes are delicious but size very small for the price. Purchased a loaf of chocolate almond loaf ($8.75) which was delicious and one of the best items I've tasted there. I will only return for special occasions when I need a gluten free cake or until someone else opens a totally gluten free restaurant with reasonably priced and sized menu items!

The food was good. The service, can't say the same. It all started off pretty good. Then, I found HAIR in my green juice beverage. When I brought it to the attention of the server, she said "I'm sorry, I'll bring you another one." At which point I said I didn't one another one. Seriously? Why would you bring me another drink from the same batch that has someone's hair swimming around in it! Upon overhearing what I assume was a discussion about the hairy drink between the management and waitstaff, I heard something to the effect of "what's the deal with that", to which the response was "oh it happens." That was strike 1-3 for me and my 1st and last visit to the establishment. I noticed that NONE of the kitchen staff was wearing hair nets and the owner's hair was out and about, not tied back. Too bad b/c the food I did eat, before I noticed the hair, was good, even the "side" salad that consisted of 4 pieces of lettuce.

Good food. We ended up getting our own coffee refills from the carafes in the main room. Service was friendly but not attentive. We had to ask for cutlery too. We will be back.

WildFlour Bakery is always a safe haven for my family. Gluten-Free, delicious food is always available and we never have any allergic reactions. My mom has additional dietary concerns (dairy, corn & soy) and the staff is always willing to take the extra time to answer her, often numerous, questions with a smile and understanding that we rarely find anywhere else. For as long as we are in NJ, we will keep coming back. Their gluten free bagel bombs are the best!

Camilla Macklin

First time there. Friendly staff. Had the roasted eggplant tomato feta crepe - very tasty! And just enough. Looking forward to trying other dishes & their pastry. Yum!

As others have noted, the food is out of this world. The potato omelette was spectacular, the chocolate ganache cake was a dream, and the double espresso was the best I've had on this side of the Atlantic. However, the service is a mess. I stood waiting to be seated and was finally handed a menu and some cutlery and told to find a table for myself in the front room. One girl took my coffee order, another girl took my food order and brought it, and then no one came back. From the time I finished with my omelette (granted, I didn't eat the entire thing, but I pushed it away and turned away from it and was on my phone. I was clearly done) to the time I finally got my check and left was over 45 minutes. That's how long before another waitress came to the table, to tell me I could pay at the front. At which point I let her know that I would like a box, and a slice of cake to take. Nevermind the glass of water I would have liked 30 minutes prior. And when I tried to mention this to the girl at the register I got a completely blank stare. No apology, not even an acknowledgment that I was speaking. I worked as a waitress for years. This is unacceptable. I realize I was only 1 person but my bill was almost $25. I think that warrants some decent service. Only because i worked as a waitress and I know how it is, and so I feel too much guilt to walk away did i leave a tip. I'll be back again, because as a vegetarian with celiac I can't say no to the amazing food. But I certainly hope the service improves.

I think it’s really wrong they advertise they close at 3pm on Sunday but their kitchen closes before that time. We drove a long way to find out their kitchen was closed.

Very cozy place with great Decour. Portions are small and prices are on the high side but the food tastes delicious. Vegetarian and vegan options also available.

A superb gluten free breakfast. They were very accommodating with additional dietary requests as well; my grandmother could not eat dairy, and so they gladly made french toast with almond milk for her. My own french toast was also quite good; fluffy and light, served with fruit and cinnamon butter. I can also recommend the coffee, which had a very smooth, mild taste; perfect black. I don't personally but into the gluten free craze, or have dietary restrictions which require such accommodation, but I'd gladly eat here anyway, just based on the taste.

Adriana Cardone

This place is great for people who can't eat gluten. Everything is gluten free and some are dairy free. Their menu go from breakfast to lunch/dinner as well as dessert

Very nice bakery cafe that apparently is also gluten free. My son and his gluten free fiance have had cakes from them - the carrot cake is awesome - and today we stopped in for a brunch and it was delicious.

The food gets 5 stars HOWEVER we arrived at 10:30 and didn't leave until 1:00. My husband got the omelette and I got French toast. Thank GOD my kids got muffins because the server brought those immediately. We waited 30 minutes for someone to wait on us. It took 20 min to get our beverages and 90 min to get our food. It was an unorganized madhouse. It is Mother's Day but it wasn't all that crowded. We got a seat right away, but it took 7 min for staff to figure out we were waiting to be seated. The server seemed confused as to how to handle the 3 parties in queue. Once seated, we waited. And waited. And waited. After our 90 min wait, our food arrived cold, but we knew if we said something, we would never eat. And besides, our server was never to be seen again anyway. No drink refills, nothing. After we ate, we sat another 20 minutes until we saw the server when we asked her for the check. She apologized for the confusion and said we could just pay inside, as our check was waiting for us at the counter. Customers were accosting us as we ate, asking us if we would be done soon because they would like our table please. Other customers were standing around at dirty tables waiting for them to be cleared, as if calling "dibs" on that table. There didn't seem to be a clear procedure for anything there. The 2 servers were winging it, making it up as they went along. No one knew what was going on. This is a crying shame because the food is amazing. Even COLD, it was the best GF French toast I've had. I have a wheat allergy and there are NO RESTAURANT around that do a GF breakfast, have delicious pastries and yummy desserts. We travelled 40 min from South Jersey on Mother's Day to eat there. 40 min. This would be a gem if the service wasn't such a disaster. I hope it was a one time deal, but when I asked the other customers who were "hawking" our table if this was par for the course, they described the staff as "laid back". What we experienced wasn't "laid back"...it was DOA....

julie mcmanamon

Very nice.

Britt K

Had the French toast and an apple crisp turnover. Both were delicious. I look forward to going back and trying more things in the menu! The servers were very nice, the dining area downstairs is a bit small and cramped, but it did not take away from my experience.

David J. Klein

When entering this establishment you're experiencing a higher dimension not perceptible to the commoner. The food is produced from heavenly ingredients made by magical elfs energetized by cosmic sustenance.

Matthew Rosidivito

Waited for a table despite a reservation, then waited over 40 minutes for small portions of overpriced and mediocre food. Asked for a coffee refill from the person who gave us our food to have her reply "That's something to tell your server, I just carry the food." Coffee came eventually, but we never saw the server again. Walked up to ask for dessert and once again to ask for the check. Smooth cup of coffee, and one of the three servers was very nice, so two stars I guess.

The food at Wildflour Cafe was very good. It was wonderful to be able to order anything off the menu as it is a totally gluten free menu and the very reason we'd chosen the restaurant. That said, our experience was less than acceptable. Our reservation, made well in advance of our visit, was lost and when we arrived with a large group, including a toddler, we received no apology whatsoever for the mistake. Luckily we were able to be seated, albeit not in the private room we'd requested. It was exactly one hour from the time we sat down to the time we received any food at all. The meals trickled in - three in the first batch, followed by three more about 20 minutes later, two followed that by about 15 minutes. By the time our last meal arrived - and I mean one meal was not served - it was one hour forty minutes from the time we'd sat down. We had no apologies along the way. We did receive a visit from our server (while still one meal short) that a 20% gratuity fee would be added to our bill. No mention or apology whatsoever about the missing meal! At the very end of our meal we were told there was only one cook. Again, no apology with this information, just information. The lack of food became a part of our experience so I cannot separate the review ratings. It's too bad because the food was good - but I was so hungry by the time I was served I'm not certain a dishrag wouldn't have tasted fabulous.

Krista Ramirez

Amazing ice cream. Seriously, just so good. Purple cow ice cream (black rasberry) is the best, but so many flavors and made so well. Great small town feel, stop on by and treat yourself

William Randall

My wife and I got a cake here for her Mother and it was fabulous. The cake was reasonably priced for what we got. A lot of gluten free places grossly over charge because the diet has become a fad and people will pay. It is nice that people who actually need gluten free for health reasons have a place to go that will not gouge on price.

Elyse A

Wide variety of gluten free items. Mostly a small bakery not really a cafe. Was disappointed when they stopped selling whole unsliced loaves. The quality and appeal of their baked pastry is a high quality, they know what they're doing.

Allan Hann

For a Gluten free breakfast or lunch this is the place. A relaxing meal for a celiac patient, no worries!! Dessert is the Best!! Could not reccomend more

Kyle Peskosky

Everything was ready for pickup at the time expected. Caramel latte was made fresh right when I got it. Everything we ordered tasted great. My wife loved the Red Velvet Cupcakes, they were for her birthday. Everything that I have ordered from here before has always tasted great. It's our to go Bakery.

While we love some of the food here, you will see other reviews discuss the hit-or-miss service. It was what happened about a month ago that made us decide to stop going. We ate here nearly every week for over a year and then probably once a month or so up until about a year ago. At first it was great, out little gluten free family could eat and have dessert. The food was good, though for my husband the portion sizes were small. The minute we sit down we order pancakes as we know the wait time for food can be very long and we have a small child to feed. We still know that we will be sitting there a minimum of 25-45 minutes. Once or twice it was an hour and over and no one checked in to give us any updates. We dealt with the long wait times because quite frankly, our little girl loves their food. The last straw was most recently we stopped in as a surprise to her. We hadn't gone in a while because of the service issue. It's hard to keep telling a hungry 5 year old her food is coming. So this last time we checked their FB page and it said open. We hopped in the car and drove the 30 min, walked up to the door to see an "on vacation" sign. Checked FB page again and it clearly said "open". Now we have a crying upset HUNGRY 5 year old in the car, we are 30 minutes from our home and guess what? Like most patrons of Wildflour, she has dietary requirements that eliminate 99.9% of restaurants. We calmed her down the best we could and went home because gluten free isn't a fad diet for many people...it is a medical necessity. The last last straw ...I messaged Wildflour kindly and gently on Facebook explaining what happened now and asking them to update their FB page when it is closed please. It's been a month or so and while they read it, they never bothered to reply. This speaks volumes about how they feel about their customers. Overall...very disappointed after years of patronage.

Nice gluten free offerings. Friendly staff.

I love this place because it's a small business with a really quaint feeling to it. I'm not gluten-free but I actually really like the food here a lot. I ordered a cake for a family event and I didn't tell anyone it was gluten-free, they had no idea they loved it!

The food was amazing! Everything if gluten free and pescatarian. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic because none of the servers has assigned jobs so they were just bustling around doing the best they could. The service was very inattentive. Unfortunately this cafe was not careful with a lunch order and my child got extremely sick. Would not recommend because they are not careful with allergies.

Erinn Marcinko

We went in for Mother's Day as a small family. As you enter, there is a sign on the wall that says 'wait to be seated' with an arrow that vaguely points to the wall or upstairs, or who knows where. There was no one there to direct us where to go and what to do. We left after standing there and contemplating if we have to wait in the line for the take out counter just to ask what the hell to do next to eat here. Potential customers should not have to guess on how to conduct business with you. So sad. Will never be going back.

Marty Bloomenthal

The place to go for gluten-free breads and pastry.

Alaina Joyce

Enjoyed the food but more importantly their efforts to make my legally blind friend feel welcomed and accomodated.

Wildflour is a godsend! They have everything you can practically imagine gluten free and most of it is utterly delicious. They have been expanding their vegan options as well! They are a bakery and also have a breakfast and lunch menu for dining in. I have been coming here for the past 5 years and every year it is better and more popular. They did my entire wedding dessert buffet and wedding cake as well as a very special anniversary cake for my parents. On both occasions guests could not believe the pastries were gluten free. Marilyn the owner is always there working behind the scenes and immediately recognizes me when I come in. I love that about Wildflour. It's good food and it feels like part of the community when the owner is there and recognizes you and makes sure you're well taken care of. I recommend it to anyone who will listen!

Linda Murdoch

We stopped here on a chilly day for lunch ... we ordered the soup and half sandwich.. both were excellent!! The fireplace was a very nice touch. We highly recommend this place.. yum

Sheena Larsen

Being vegetarian, I appreciate and try to support restaurants that offer vegetarian and vegan options. But I will not be returning to this little cafe. I have eaten here a few times and always ordered a green juice with no seltzer or ice. There were never any issues until one day they brought me out a less-than-half-full cup of green juice. They explained they weren't allowed to fill the cup all the way full with green juice. Because I didn't want seltzer and ice, it reduced the amount of juice in the cup to less than half full. I explained that I had ordered the modified version of the juice several times before and there were never any issues. I always got the full cup of green juice I paid for. They basically refused, saying that if I wanted a full cup of green juice without seltzer and ice that I would have to pay extra. So I ended up paying full price for 3 oz. of juice when it should have been more like 12 or 16 oz of juice. Very very disappointed in the inconsistency of the restaurant and their inflexibility to accommodate their paying customers. I felt ripped off. Will not be going back.

I ordered a sweet potato kale crepe and it was good...aside from the LONG DARK HAIR that was wrapped inside my crepe. I understand that accidents happen but maybe kitchen staff could wear hairnets? After reading through the reviews this isn't an isolated incident. The blueberry muffin was not edible.

I love this place!! The food is awesome and it's so wonderful to be in a Gluten Free facility. Cute eating area. Nice friendly service. The only reason it's 4 and not 5 starts is because sometimes you can wait awhile if sinning in. Otherwise, I would absolutely 100% say GO HERE!!

I Love this place, my favorite to eat is lemon curd ricotta dessert crepe! The bakery, I have liked everything i have tried so far!

It was a "No place like home" feeling with great tasting sweets - bonus vegan and gluten-free options available too!

Amy

As others have mentioned, the food here is delicious and amazing. It's wonderful to be able to eat gluten free like that and really enjoy what you're eating. However the service on the day that my friend and I came in was quite poor. There was some miscommunication between the staff so it was ages before someone came to take our order even though people who came in after us were being served. Had to get up for our own new set of cutlery and drink refill, and the check was never brought to us. Please fix your service issues. We would have had a totally enjoyable time otherwise. And again, the food is great. Fresh and delicious. The bread and crackers are fantastic. We couldn't stop raving about how great the french toast was. Also my tartine was delightful, with its scallion cream cheese and super crispy base. The only thing I took issue with is the notation on the menu of "side salad" with my dish, as I decided not to order a separate salad based on that. Two lettuce leaves and two slices of tomato are not a side salad -- that's garnish.

Food is always amazing ... hats off to the chef(s)...

This place is disorganized and the staff absolutely ignores you. First time there and no one told us to give a name to be seated and other people walked in 15 min later and were seated before us. Meanwhile the girls there knew we had been standing there a while. I placed my order it was wrong, waited for someone to come back to ask if everything was ok. Finally told my waitress and she looked at me and walked away and did NOTHING. The meal was also to come with a side salad, it came with 4 pieces of lettuce. Also my husband ordered the black bean burger wrap which he dug in actually looking for the burger. 27 dollars later and we just left. Our waitress checked us out and still didn’t acknowledge that the meal was wrong. Can I give zero stars? Absolutely terrible.
