Marcel has a great atmosphere and the cashier was also very nice. It’s a great spot to get some work done, and enjoy some good food as well. I had the falafel sandwich and it was cooked to perfection. The banana nut bread paired perfectly with some hot brewed coffee. You can sit by the window and enjoy a street view, or at one of their tables to catch up with friends. Perfect for anyone who works from home or remotely. Reviewer: Mina Ibrahim

Had breakfast there and the eggs were very light and fluffy, the pancakes were also very light and tasty .Everything looks fresh the only thing the place could be cleaner , the silverware were very dirty, the floor had crumbs all over and the light fixtures had a layer of dust on them.Overall a nice place to eat just needs attention to the cleanliness of the restaurant.

I didn't know what to expect. I saw the pictures online and felt that they would be a good bet for a healthy breakfast. Wow, I was not disappointed. The food was amazing. My dark roast coffee was perfect. They have honey along with all the usual sweeteners. My Yemenite Vine Breakfast was out of this world. It had wonderful hot salsa to put on top of it which was spectacular. The ambiance was charming.

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. The cashier, Khristina, has the worst attitude. I am never coming back because of her. While I was in line, she was yelling at the customers who were not coming to the counter at her command. I also saw her getting snippy with another customer, who was an elderly woman who had been waiting a long time for her food. She is the reason I will not be returning. The food was good, but not good enough to outweigh her horrible attitude.

It is so hard to be impressed by anything these days, but finally Montclair has a breakfast, drool worthy bakery and lunch spot to rave about. This is a new location as of September 2017 and it definitely sets itself apart from the surrounding mediocre bakeries and overly inflated eateries. The aroma from their kitchen is heavenly and the decor is beautiful and inviting. You will appreciate the courteous and friendly service. This is our new go to spot for pastries which are so flavorful and well-made. This is what pastries are supposed to look like and taste like. Their pastries are soooo good, I just wish they had more to buy!!! We fell in love with the almond tea cake which was so moist and tender with a strong and wonderful almond taste. Their danish has a beautiful dark golden color with a tender interior filled with glorious pockets of delicious dark chocolate. We also purchased their lemon scented blueberry scone and chocolate chip cookie. YUM!!Everything was crazy delicious and not overly sweetened. We could not stop eating these buttery delights! This is the spot for fantastic morning pastries to complement your coffee or to be had on their own. We cannot wait to go back for breakfast and lunch. This is a must go to spot!

Chef Meny does it again! I came during their soft launch and went completely overboard and ordered one of all their pastries and each was better than one before it. The rughelah was balanced between the flakey pastry and chocolate, the Danish was not overly sweet with a custard filling, and on and on. Like Mish Mish, Marcel does not disappoint!

I’ve been to Marcel twice now. Sometimes a good bakery is hard to find, but it’s nice to know you can stop in for a coffee and a pastry. I find the service quick and friendly and the food very tasty. A really cool find are the halva croissants, give one a try! It really seems like they built their menu from quality ingredients and I love it. Edit: I’m also a huge fan of the decor and listening to Stevie Nicks while I eat. This is a great place to spend a lunch. One more thing Marcel has going for it are ample hours. You can stop by for brunch, lunch, and even an after dinner snack.

Marcel Bakery and Kitchen has the most delicious gluten-free desserts and baked goods, hands down -- so good, it's almost hard to believe they're gluten free. The selection of Mediterranean inspired comfort food along with delicious pizzas and soups is so, so good. I make it a point to stop by whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

GREAT addition to the Upper Montclair dining choices. Excellent, interesting sandwiches, wraps and soups. My favorite is Mediteranean Boy -- a baguette with roasted tomato, pesto and tasty melted halloumi cheese. My husband prefers Mama's Chicken Stew in Pita -- tender chicken and an interesting savory sauce. Quiche is consistently good (but small). The Halva and chocolate croissant is to die for! Very hard to get a table so have takeout as a backup plan.

Everything was so fresh and delicious. We took home a loaf of bread and were impressed with the quality. The Jersey, Jersey, Jersey sandwich is my favorite. The bourekas are so good. Don't miss the Heathy Mess salad or any of their baked goods. Oh, and I dream about this za'atar potatoes.

My experience was not good. I ordered a separate side salad and asked to put the sausage, cabbage and Dijon9 on top of the salad I purchased. The sausage was burnt no Dijon and no cabbage. Also a gentleman was preparing I don't know what and he did not have gloves on his hand and he was touching all the food.

I love this local bakery. Everything I've tried has been outstanding. If you are looking for the perfect blueberry scone, come here! It's flaky and buttery and has a perfect blueberry:scone ratio too. They also make great coffee and espresso drinks. I also like that they are eco conscious and use compostable products. The straws are also compostable but aren't the terrible melting paper ones like the other coffee shops. After trying all different places around town for my AM fix, I am now set on Marcel being my go to.

Great new place for breakfast or lunch. It can be tricky to get a table here during busy hours. They have a water pitcher and hummus and a type of crab salad for you to sample while waiting for your order to be prepared. There are a few long tables indoors with communal seating, and some other regular tables as well, but very limited outdoor seating. Everything we ordered was so fresh and delicious!!! It was even nice to chat with another customer about what they had ordered and other dishes they recommend. I can't wait to come back to try more of their fresh tasty menu items!!!

The decor and environment is very hip. The Mediterranean chicken soup was very good and they didn't spare on the chicken. The grain bread with raisins was very delicious. The cashier warmed up the bread for me, which I thought was great. You don't usually get that at most places.

Big fan of Mani’s other restaurant Mish Mish but this was a disappointment. First and foremost the ventilation is horrible. We sat inside for a few minutes and left stinky from head to toe. As a cafe it made it unpleasant to sit inside. The coffee (Cortado) was bitter and citrusy to the point that I could have been convinced someone squeezed lemon into it. Baked goods were nice and a good selection. Overall, better places for breakfast and lunch around town and most certainly for coffee.

Sadly this was a disappointing experience. I could deal with the flavorless, overpriced "strawberry-banana" smoothies (which tasted like sadness and took 15 mins to prepare) and the not-so-fresh pastries, but it is too difficult to overlook the cashier's attitude. This young lady was just beyond rude and unfriendly. She did not make eye contact nor smile while processing my order. She has the audacity to get upset when I requested a receipt. A few words of advice, young lady: If you don't like people, remove yourself from customer service. You are actively driving people away from this business!

Marcel’s service has changed in my opinion since it’s opening date, and as much as I have tried to overlook the quality of service that I have received during my most recent visits. It will be hard for me to frequent Marcel’s after my experience this morning. I witnessed the person preparing my food in the kitchen using a damp cloth to wipe the side of my sandwich (after he used the same cloth to wipe down the kitchen counter with) as well as eating the salmon from my sandwich before wrapping it to give to me, and gloves we’re not used consistently while preparing my food. That was the last straw for me. Although I received a refund and did not take the sandwich, it is hard for me to order food from a place where I have to question the sanitary practices of the kitchen. This is disappointing to me because I have been to Marcel’s numerous times and really did enjoy the food and service received since Marcel’s first opened.
