One of your best bets for an authentic Italian bakery in the area. The selection is plentiful and varied. The bread is really good, but not the best around (there is a bakery near Bloomfield Ave in Montclair offering the best bread you can get without going into Newark). Most of the baked goods are truly tasty and beautifully crafted; I'm rather fond of their brownies. My mom ordered custom cakes here for just about every occasion for many, many years and we were never disappointed. Definitely well worth your time & money.

Ordered a cake for my fiancé and it was amazing inexpensive perfect size and he was loving it l. I came back to order for my sons birthday and was completely surprised for a cake just frosting cause I told them I’ll make my own fondant decorations and just need a cake sized in a number 1 covered in buttercream when I showed the girl the photo she went and spoke to the owner I was quoted 300 for the complete cake with decorations and I’m sorry I’m not paying that much for a cake for a child’s 1st Birthday which was going to be a small party when I asked how much for just the cake she said 250 again how stupid luckily a friend of mine who’s a excutive pastry chef with her own business charged me half of what this place was offering and she made the cake with decorations exactly how I wanted it she did an amazing job when I told her about this place she said they were definitely robbing me never again will I order I’ll just stick to my friend

My girlfriend and I live about a half mile from here. We walk up here at least once a month. This is a lovely bakery with incredibly reasonable prices. They offer cakes, cookies, fresh bread, bagels, muffins, etc... This is one of my favorite places in Bloomfield.

As a European I've had a really difficult time finding some good bread in the US. Thank goodness we have Gencarelli in our neighborhood! Not only do they serve a small selection of really good bread, they are also well known for their beautiful and delicious cakes. Some of the other pastries like cinnamon rolls and croissants are all a bit to similar to my taste, but they're still pretty good! Very popular place, so sometimes there's a wait. But usually there will be several servers to help you out, so it does go pretty quick!

I've been going to Gencarellis for many years and have nothing but love. This past week, I special ordered a cake for the first time. I paid $50 and was very disappointed with the result. Half the cake was missing. It was leveled off using whipped cream. Barely any filling. Oh and I paid five extra dollars for edible glitter and they barely put any on. Overall, worst cake ever. Especially for that price. Disappointed is an understatement.

I am visiting and was very excited to visit a true Italian Bakery. I purchased rolls, black and white, and a mixed bag of Italian cookies. There is a small parking lot and street parking. The Bakery is inviting and fresh looking. There was definitely a line and the staff was moving people along. Now the problem is I found the bread and cookies to be dry and kinda stale tasting. I've had a bad cold so maybe it was me but the rolls crumbled when opening so I was more than a little disappointed. Since there are so many Italian Bakeries I think I will try another.

Great neighborhood Italian bakery. Large selection of delicious pastries (which I am slowly making a go at trying them all), cakes and cookies. If you do not see something you would like on display, ask, as they have more items in back. They do custom cakes as well. They are usually busy (which is a good sign), but the staff are helpful and will fill your order quick.

I overheard one of the girls talk to an older gentle man and she got an attitude because he couldn’t hear her that well. Definitely not the way people should be treated. Gencarelli’s has been a family favorite for years and a hometown treasure!! There single portion treats (chocolate mousse, single cakes, etc) are AMAZING!! We typically get a Strawberry Short Cake for small family gatherings or their homemade donuts! I also love a sliced loaf of Panella bread or sesame seed French Loaf of Bread with some pasta! Tip: if it is a holiday, go really early as this place will pack up quickly or sell out of some items.

This one of the best Italian backers around,. They use real butter in their bakery l, you can taste the butter. Lots of get things to try. Just wish the mannerisms of the staff could possibly improve. I gotten several feelings, where they would serve another customer that came after me, while all along I have been waiting there. I felt totally invisible, I am hoping it’s not because of my skin color. And one of the worker was not able to get my order right I spent a good $28 there with no appreciation as a customer.

Shocked that they didn't know what a Bialy is. I love this place because everyone from all walks of life come here for everything they offer because their selection is huge. From lobster tails to rainbow cookies and bagels to cheesecake.. this place will leave your mouth watering with their fresh beautifully hand made delicate pastries, cakes, cookies and bagels. But wait there's more, they have an assortment of Biscotti, pies, pretzels and cookies and everything comes in beautiful Gencarelli packaging along with string tying the box for extra security and uniqueness. Take a long look around before you order to make sure you see everything and have any and all questions answered by the polite and patient staff. Also the canoli is always made to order and Lord have mercy it is quite delicious. I don't think there is something here that isn't divine and scrumptious. As a non New Jersey resident I find myself stopping in when I arrive and when I leave for home. Hope you love it as much as my entire family does.

Gencarelli's is an Italian Bakery in name and at heart but it is also a full service bread and cake bakery. The bakers are as adept at making rye bread and strudel as they are at making cannoli and Sfogliatella. The shelves are always well stocked and the counter is always adequately manned. What places Gencarelli's in a class of its own though, is the prices. During a recent visit, I purchased two cakes, four cupcakes and over and pound of cookies. The total was under $35. Bang for your buck, the best bakery in Essex County, NJ.

Gencarelli's is good. Their strawberry shortcake and cookies...yum. Pick up their cookies if you go. They are melt in your mouth buttery deliciousness. Brownies, on the other hand, not that good. I had the walnut topped brownie and it was dried and crumbly. Not fudgy and was more like a dry chocolate cake. Service is pretty quick even when it's packed with people. They do try to rush you a bit though so look around before being served. They kind of expect you to know what each dessert is.

Gencarelli's is best place in Essex and Passaic counties for Italian baked goods and pastries. I entered store day before Thanksgiving. Number 25 was being served. I had number 52. The wait was about 20 minutes which was not long considering. The staff should be proud of how effective and efficient they were. They all deserve raises!!!

Red velvet cupcakes, Valentines Day cookies, chocolate covered strawberries and a peanut butter brownie...yes, and all of it delicious! Bakeries have been disappearing. Someone brought us some delicious goodies from Gencarelli's and now I have a favorite to go too. They are 45 minutes from my home but worth the trip. We love a good Black and White cookie and have searched NY and NJ to find a good one. This bakery nailed it. Perfect soft cookie bottom. Delicious chocolate and vanilla icing. Fresh and good. I ordered a cake to be picked up on July 7th.When placing the order The person who answered the phone apparently was not understanding or listening.When my daughter went to get the cake it was not what I told them to do on the cake.My daughter said to them this is not what we ordered the person was so rude to her and laughed in her face.We needed the cake so my daughter asked if they could try and fix the problemThey were very rude and blamed it all on me.Well let me say this it was all there fault the order taker didnt even get my phone number right so they would not even have been able to reach me no matter what. My daughter called today to speak with the owner who was just as rude to her as is workers and had the nerve to say to her it was not there fault and hope he doesnt have to deal with your Mom calling.I have ordered many times from here but will not be giving them any more of my money and will also being telling all my friends how rude they are towards people.Its not like their cakes are cheap.

I wish I could give 2.5 stars. Read on and you will find out: Very delicious cakes! I recently purchased a cake for a family party here and everybody loved it! I was surprised to discover however that the customer service at this very highly rated bakery by Google is not the best around. During my time of cake pickup in June of this year, I was helped by an attractive young, blond, female employee, who operated the cashier, and found her to be very rude, no eye contact, just wants to take your payment and escort you out of the shop as fast as possible. Not very nice!
