One of my favorite bakeries. A bit pricey but it’s worthy. I love their chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. Also, I love their Raspberry Vanilla Square Cake. I have ordered my graduation cake from there and it was amazing.

Amazing sweets! I came by after dinner for a treat. Not knowing what to choose since they have SO many options, I asked the girl working what a few cheesecake options were. I chose the chocolate topped mini cheesecake and an eclair. Both of these were absolutely delicious! I couldn’t finish either, just had a few bites of each. Neither of them were overly rich tasting either. I wish we had a Calandra’s in CA.

Calandra's is the best!!! They absolutely have the best bread that me or my family has ever had. It's baked fresh every hour so you know it's good! We're also big fans of their cannolis, particularly the chocolate covered ones. You won't find a better bakery in NJ!!

This is probably one of the best bakeries I've ever been to. When you walk in, the amount of freshly baked and perfectly decorated cookies, breads, pastries, etc. not only smell great -- they look great, too!! The bakery is also extremely clean, with friendly faced employees that greet you. My mom and I love coming here, especially when they're creating a customized cake for someone's special event. Truly a great, wholesome bakery with FRESH, great food.

Worst experience ever. I came for a quote of a(7 inch cake) but I wanted only half cake decorated the other I was going to take home plain and the manager told me was going to be more than 150 dollars so because of the price , I decided for a regular cake ( 25 dollars) I explain the manager how I wanted but they did what they wanted . They didn’t have the colors I requested and The manager didn’t want to help me . She wanted me to wait so some ingredients can be cold in order to ‘fix it’ I drove there 1 hour with a 6 month baby and they didn’t care . She was rude i won’t came back .

Ok, I rarely left negative reviews as I am a huge supporter of local business. But here it is. Pic to the left is a $51, 8” customized birthday cake. it was so funny looking that it made me laugh. 4 whole strawberries even with stems as decorations, seriously? I had to take the strawberries off, cut into slices and added some sprinkles to make it look like a bakery cake for my daughter’s party (pic to the right). Never coming back!

Very disappointing!! I ordered a birthday cake for my brothers 43rd birthday. Cake was a 8' square to be filled with custard and fresh fruit and of course with the typical "happy birthday" written on the cake. What I ordered was NOT what I got, first off when picking up the cake the lady opens the lid of the cake to show me the writing on it. The cake was written in the type of handwritten font as if for a 3 year old, not a 43 year old! It looked so childish and seemed like whoever wrote on the cake was writing in their own script. Now to the best part, as you can see from the picture, the cake was cut into slices and all it did was completely fall apart to where you couldn't give out a slice of cake. The vanilla cake sponge itself was DEFINITELY NOT FRESH!!!! The cake itself did not soak up any of the custard, was not moist but hard and dry!!! They OVERFILLED the cake with blueberries. The cake was a huge disappointment and for $60 this cake was absolutely not worth it and I will never go back. I was very disappointment that I was not able to present a delicious cake on my brothers birthday. Very embarrassing.

Best bakery in North Jersey (and quite possibly the world)! My sisters and I have lived in several different states and traveled to many other countries (including multiple trips to Italy and France) and have yet to find a better cannoli. Whenever we come home to visit our family we make at least one trip to Calandra's and it is always a highlight of the trip. We've probably eaten their bread and pastries several hundred times in our lives and have yet to be disappointed.

I love this bakery!! Calandra's is conveniently located right off of 46, so I love stopping here during my lunch break for something sweet. There is so much to choose from, and all of the desserts are fresh and authentic. Everyone that works here is SO friendly and helpful. Can't recommend them enough!!

The best dessert in jersey! The Cannoli was incredible! If you go early the line will be out the door but if you go at around 7 you will beat the crowd! Jersey gets a little rowdy at night so if traveling with family daylight is probably the better option.

Had not been back to the Newark location since my family moved to Morris County in 1975; was in the area so we stopped by; the area has changed, but not all that much & the bakery is larger now, but looks pretty much as I recall it. Same great selection, it was a Sunday & between Mass from St. Francis, the placed was very packed, but the staff moved the line & were friendly & helpful to those who were not sure what they wanted & had questions. Picked up rolls & a "large round sliced" (just like my mom & dad would get) , which IMHO are the best. The front area & cases were very clean & the place looks well maintained. The original family were neighbors of ours, but don't really recall too much about them. Very pleased we stopped by, still a great bakery & a added bonus was running into people I have not seen in many years.

I was just at Calandras for Fathers Day with my father. The bakery was a complete zoo, after about a 10 minute wait, a young lady asked if we were next, and we asked her for a dozen pastries. we had several questions for her, what's this one, what kind of filling is that, she gave an excellent answer every time. We picked out the 12 pastries painfully slowly. When we got back to the register, my father then asked her for 2 brownies in a box, after that I asked for pignoli cookies and cream puffs. Then we finally finished, and she rang us up. The young lady who helped up smiled the entire time, was very polite, knowledgeable, and even made us smile. I've worked in the food service industry for the last 10-12 years, and I know how difficult it can be dealing with the public at large. Especially on holidays. Thank you Chelsea for making our trip to the Calandra's as pleasant as possible. Your boss should know how lucky they are to have you. I read the other reviews on this page, there was one reviewer saying the employees are "ghetto like" and they "fit the stereotype", using thier big words to show us all how important they think they are, they even got a response from the owner. My advice to you would be, if you act like a jerk you will be treated like one. Go to a bakery in your own neighborhood. Because we don't want you in ours. Thank you again Chelsea.

Mixed feelings about this one. The big cakes used to be really good, but the last couple of years the quality has been declining. So now we do not buy large cakes as they seem to be nearing stale or not rotated or we just have bad luck. Went recently for cannolis, creme brulee, and cream puffs. Happy to report all were delicious! I'd stick with the bread and small pastries instead!

My kids and I come here 3 times a week, before karate, and they love the cookies. Great place for breakfast, coffee and rolls are delicious and they serve Lavazza coffee. The staff are great, the owner is obviously a parent herself and treats the kids with samples of cookies. Nice family business. Bread line can get long at times, it's that popular, so plan accordingly. Highly recommend.

Fairfield location is the worst service of any bakery I've ever been to. Stood in multiple lines, making eye contact with numerous employees and no one would make eye contact, talk with me, anything. I've never seen such awful customer service. Don't waste your time with this bakery. They won't serve you.

Great bakery! Their raspberry cake is my favorite. They always have the freshest raspberry’s on top of the cake and the filling is always creamy and delicate. It’s never dry and i always buy it if I’m ever hosting a gathering. Plus their bread is always super fresh and always crunchy on the outside yet soft on the inside. They bakery itself as also very clean.

I will not deny that Calandra's have some of the best deserts, but I believe the workers are racist! I've been to the Fairfield location 3 times and was overlooked for them to serve the white customers first. Today I was waiting to be served and the worker proceeded to help a white customer who was telling her that I was next, the worker was insisting on taking the lady before me while the lady was telling her that I was there before her. The other time my step daughter ( who's mixed) waited 30min before she was served and that's only because my husband (who's Italian) spoke up to the worker about how she was being overlooked because he sat aside and watched as they served the white customers first. Never will i spend a penny in this place again!!

Very poor customer service! Go to Palazzone in Willowbrook which is better than Calandra's. Try it! It is more affordable and better quality pastries and coffee. Oh Customer Service is simply the best.

Overwhelming doesn't even begin to describe the feeling of walking in here as a dessert lover. I didn't count it but there were probably 100+ things that you can choose from so it's hard to know where to start. I think I walked from one end of the counter to the other about 5 times. I finally decided on the chocolate cheesecake and I was pleasantly happy that it cost less than $3. A lot of bakeries that make these gourmet desserts would mark that thing up to $6+. The cheesecake itself was amazing and so rich that I wasn't able to finish it. The chocolate was marbled on the inside and there were also portion of just pure cheesecake bliss. They also have cupcakes, cannolis, cookies, cakes, etc. There were some samples of custom cakes that they made that look absolutely beautiful. The fridge contained some items that you can get to go such a pre-made stuffed breads, gelato, pasta, and some other dishes. Seems easy enough to just pop those into the oven or microwave and serve. There is also coffee! The only thing that I found a little disappointing was there wasn't much seating. I guess people really get things to-go here but there was only one table with three chairs (and I'm still not sure if it was a decorative piece or if it's actually meant to be used).

Finally made it to the popular Calandras Bakery in Fairfield, excited to get some great dessert items, but was left with a poor customer service experience. If you work at a Bakery you should at least know a Boston Cream donut. This was a 5 minute process of trying to purchase a Boston Cream donut. Literally had to go through each donut to get what I wanted and even that was suspect, $1.25 for a mini Donut?? Really. It was just one bite and it was average. Very disappointing. The Language barrier became more aggravating as we tried to purchase more items. I went from very happy to be at Calandras to being super aggrivated just by trying to place a simple order. The server was even mad that I didnt have exact change for the purchase. This Bakery has a solid reputation, maybe I went to the wrong location? Prices were jacked... service was bad.. and the product was average.. I will try another time, maybe it was as off day. But I went with some friends and they expressed the same feelings about the experience.

Been clients for years and never had a problem until the past 6 months. Cakes have always been spot on until the past two special events. Each time we ordered the cakes days in advance only to find when we served the cakes they were stale and fillings we asked for were missing. Took the last cake back as proof and still they wouldn't accept the truth. Did get my money back though....it was appreciated.

I really like them , one of the best bakery around but i was disappointed yesterday when I went to pickup my my daughter birthday cake which its 12" round cake and they make me wait 5 min to find a box to put it in . And guess what !!! They bring cardboard box which is one of the boxes for plastic cups and they told me they don't have any other boxes to fit the cake I told the lady how I'm going to bring the cack in this box ? She said this the only box can fit it !!!!!

Purchased 4 large cannoli and 10 small cannoli. All of them were a little soggy and I asked the girl if they made them in the morning and she said yes. I bought them at 11AM. Also the center was empty of filling on all of them. The total cost was $34+. If you are going to sell a large pastry for $3.50 it better well be full. The smaller ones were 2.25 each and the same thing. Shame on you Callandras. If you can't give your customers a quality product at the exorbitant price you charge you shouldn't be in business.
