We stopped by on Labor Day and it was so packed we decided to grab coffee & a pastry to go. So we got the carrot cake and it was wonderful. So moist and soft. Pretty sweet but not TOO sweet, if you know what I mean.

L Huddy

4 stars for the ambiance and friendly staff. 3 stars for the skimpy bowl meal. Ordered the Cowboy bowl sans bacon and expected more than a handful of spinach leaves. It tasted great but its $15 price tag seemed high.

Susan Girardin

Small diner with big portions, friendly staff, great coffee and food. Berry pancakes are a favorite. Be warned they are the size of a dinner plate with real strawberries and blueberries inside. Small and homey. Near Dartmouth college and several shops. Best breakfast spot. They also have pies and donuts that you can get to go. Highly recommended. You will not leave hungry. Of anything you will be full right up until dinner time. Get there early for a shorter wait time.

Christian Darabos

Good food, but long wait and pricey diner

Rich Giusti

Lou's is a solid joint. There is a good energy in the place with a positive vibe. It was busy which is always a good sign. We were seated within 10 mins and the server was very attentive with drinks and suggestions for food choices. Son had the egg sandwich with home fries. He appreciated the sandwich but didn't touch the home fries. They are large fried cubes which weren't very appealing. My poached eggs over has was very tasty as the eggs were perfectly poached and the hash was perfect from taste (not overly salty) to texture (finer cut). The side of wheat toast was excellent, suggest trying the house made strawberry jam. The side of fruit was bland and we had to ask if it was canned. The server said that it wasnt so have to assume that it was pre-made and the fruit bled out their flavor. She quickly replaced it with strawberries which although didn't look to be "just cut", they were tasty. Cost was probaby 10-15% more than the value but it is right next to Dartmouth so it's to be expected. They did have a selection of fresh baked goods that looked deliecious but we didn't partake on this trip.

My boyfriend and I just finished eating here. It was a wonderful experience. We are from out of town and I needed somewhere to plug my tablet in to charge, the gentleman up front took care of plugging it in and returning it when we were finished. Above and beyond customer service! We then began with a vegan cookie and a glazed donut. Both were terrific. I had the grilled Reuben which is one of the best I have ever had. And he had the burger with all the fixings and enjoyed his as well. Service was on point, even during a busy period. Highly recommend. The Google listing seems to show the catering options and bakery options. However, if you go to their website you can download the restaurant menu.

Matt Gustafson

Food was great. Service was even better.

Derek Williamson

Always amazing. Great coffee, quick service, local features, awesome menu.

Scott Dodson

A bit pricey, but great food and fantastic pies

Nileesh Gopu

The best apple pie and blueberry pancakes hands down

Promo Paul. Loud Event Photography.

The largest apple pie I have ever seen!!! I stopped in and bought a few pastries and all were very delicious. EXCEPT, for the special lemon cake which had enticed me I'm the first place. The cake was dry and the fondant did not have much lemon flavor. I want to give it another try and will definitely adjust my review up to 5 stars if that item or equivalent improves. "Did you see how big that pie was?!?!".

Bernhard von Stengel

Nice traditional diner.

Danielle Curley

Breakfast all day and it's delicious!

Jay Pooler

nice..wish I had time for pie..

Jay Rochberg

Great food for any meal, something on the menu for everyone! 10/10 would recommend

Mike Wu

Best breakfast/brunch place around Hanover. Plentiful classic American options like pancakes, waffles, muffins, etc. The burgers here are also pretty good. The staff are friendly and service is decently fast, even when it's pretty crowded. Would recommend this place if you're looking for a delicious, filling brunch!

Trevor Chenoweth

The best breakfasts I've ever had. Specials menu that changes often, but I usually go back to the Doc's Favorite - corned beef hash with two poached eggs and an English muffin. They've got preserves on the table for you and they are prompt with the coffee. The service is awesome. It's a small town and it has that small town feel. Servers like Becky have been there for decades and are happy to have a conversation with you. If you show up later than 8am on the weekend you'll probably have to wait in line, but it's well worth it. This place is a slice of history. Also their pies are legendary - get one to go.

Neerja Bakshi-Sharma

Best breakfast place in Hanover, hands down. Their thick milkshakes/frappes are the best. Be sure to go early and on an empty stomach though. They close at 3.

Donna Lee

Great food but the staff is spread thin because the place is always hopping. The menu is extensive, but a little pricy....but it's Hanover, so it is what it is. We had the Rueben and the corned beef was sliced thick off the brisket. Really, really good. Some seating is tight.

Gwen Kehr

Fantastic poached egg and salmon hash.

Sarah Millward

Great food to eat in or take out. Friendly staff and delicious bagels

Bryce Caster

This is the iconic Hanover restaurant. They serve breakfast fare, diner food, and baked goods. When you dine here, you can't help but notice the nostalgia.

Hannah Chambers

Best breakfast in the upper valley by far. You can't go wrong with anything you order here!

stacey wilson

Its always Amazing!

Jennifer Schelly

Great bakery and diner. Super friendly wait staff.

Shan Chen

Great service and tasty food, consistently. I ordered a roast beef club during the lunch rush hour. They accidentally made a turkey club, instead. They immediately apologized and offered to remake the order plus a cookie for my patience.

Winston Thomas

Went here with my brother one morning passing through the area. Glad it was recommended because it's a really nice little spot although can get kind of crowded from what I hear. It was pretty bustling when we were there and we were there early but we got seated right away food was great but I didn't order anything too Exotic good coffee

Conor Galligan

A staple of Hanover, and the best breakfast in town by far. A classic diner, with well-prepared food, and employees that remember you even if you haven't been back in years. Gets quite busy on the weekends, so be prepared to go early, snipe a few spots at the counter, or enjoy the weather while one of your party waits in line.

Benjamin Ferguson

Over 8 years, I've probably been here about 100 times. The food is incredible, and the service is excellent (the line out the door on busy weekends is a testament to that- but don't worry, it moves fast). Lou's is among the best of local New England diners.

Sevier Conditions

I loved their breakfast.

Joann Clarke-Stein

My absolute favorite place to have breakfast when I'm visiting in this area of Vermont/New Hampshire. If you're in the area and the wait is not too long, do NOT miss the opportunity to have a meal here--and get something from the amazing bakery counter to take with you. You will not be disappointed.

Jean Milano

Fantastic breakfast and great staff!

Alison Wong

The servers and staff are all really nice but SUPER slow. The pace here in New Hampshire is A LOT slower than in Boston. Food was decent but did not meet expectations with all the good reviews. It didn't blow me away and the portions were small considering the price. Omelette with veggies was thick and cooked very well. But was slightly small. Salmon Benedict with homefries was interesting - no hollandaise sauce. Eggs were super small and lacked flavor. Salmon was cooked into a hash which was interesting and it tasted interesting too...very salty and it wasn't bad but I probably wouldn't get it again. The blueberry muffins and cranberry orange muffins were standard and seemed like they were bought from the store vs. baked freshly at the restaurant. But they were warm to touch when presented. Definitely do the to-go option if you in a hurry. But the place is super cute.

Gurprit Singh

Awesome place for a good heavy breakfast.

Jason Hirschhorn

Depending on when you go, you may find yourself waiting in a 30-45 minute line for a table (though it's first-come, first-served seating at the counter). I still think it's definitely worth the wait! Every breakfast item I've tried has been delicious, and the Cruller French Toast is especially (sweet and) enjoyable!

J Mac

Great old school diner vibe. The service is great. There is an extensive and eclectic menu and everything is delicious. The portion sizes are a little big but will keep you full all day. It gets crowded so show up early!

Brian Brewington

Order something that gives you a reason to have their real maple syrup. Buy a little bottle to take with you too (they are under 3 oz so you can carry it on the plane...). If you're with a group, go early to avoid the wait, maybe even before 7 AM. Or go alone and sit at the counter. Note that street parking is free until 9AM.

Andrew Hamilton

Amazing breakfast place! Just came in to have breakfast and celebrate my father in law’s 80th, and it was awesome. The homemade corned beef hash is unbelievable. The best breakfast we’ve ever had, EVER. Highly recommended. Portions, service, flavor, perfect.

Dale Heath

Best breakfast on the planet!! Bar none!

Ian C.

This place is great, specifically the pastries, but I feel the breakfast is a bit overrated.

Zhuoman Gardner

Lou's is well regarded by Dartmouth students, alumni and parents. It's a must go if you are affiliated with Dartmouth. As an Asian, I don't eat heavy breakfast, but I love to go to Lou's just because it's crowded and it reminds me of my past life in a very populated city in Asia.

Greg Knowles

The prices are a bit too high, but the quality is very good. You should try the place out of you are in the area.

James Milks

Great breakfast spot with long lines but a speedy turnover. The French toast and eggs Benedict were yummy and the service from Sarah was great. Well worth the trip.

Michael Song

Great food and service. Very unique!

Luis

My wife and I ordered an assortment of cupcakes for our vow renewal and they were the best cupcakes I have ever had. All our guests said the same think very delicious and the ordering was very easy and pickup was on time. We would definitely go back to Lou's.

Joseph Lemos

Definitely a locals place ...and seems to be a favorite for section / thru hikers ...easy going and friendly staff ...being an Ivy league college town, the prices reflect that. Breakfast food was good (waffle & strawberries, eggs & home fries, heavy butter tasting pancakes meals) ...but average considering cost. Having been to different breakfast places in MA and RI, have had better flavor and portions there than here.

Jonathan Frizzell

The food is surpassed only by the atmosphere. Oh whoops, the service, too. It could triple in size, and would still be packed!

Taylor Haynes

I used Lou's catering service and had an amazing experience. Brunch-themed spread with delicious foods and fresh fruits. They dropped off on time and picked up when the event was over. Everything went off without a hitch, incredibly thankful!

Campbell Oak

Fast service. Great food. Amazing diner

Debbie C

Awesome selection of breakfast and America comfort foods. Which explains why it was so busy. There is usually a wait that may be 10 minutes or less

Elizabeth Guynn

Lou's is a wonderful diner in Hanover. The waitstaff are attentive, caring and hard workers! The food is also delicious - best breakfast in town. Lots of GF options. The line, sometimes long, moves very quickly - worth the wait :)

Ryan McMaster

Crowded and for good reason! This place has awesome breakfast and bakery! We even ordered a coconut cake for my wife's birthday and it was grear!

Ridwan Hassen

A great spot for pastries and pies. They are open early too so if you are up late or awake early great place to grab breakfast

Tim Anderson

Great food and value.

Sneha Pandey

Loved everything, I have ever ordered here. When in Hanover, you have to go here. There is usually some waiting time but it is totally worth it..

Shivesh Shah

Great experience, food, and people!

Chuckles Birkmeyer

Fantastic breakfast and pastry food. perfect place for any family meal.

Daniel Naranjo

Great food and service!! A wonderful family-style environment.

Helena Riihiaho

Great food, great atmosphere, lots of history

Malinda Taylor

Gluten Free Awesome

bruno korbar

The best of American diners. It looks crappy, the food is greasy and delicious

Elizabeth LeBlanc

Great service, cute spot and the food was pretty good, too!

Wei Styer

Lou's is famous in Hanover for opening (and closing) early, but it is worth being there bright and early for their amazing breakfast! They have really hearty serving sizes, and everything on the menu is tasty. Their pastries are second to none, and if you don't come early for food, there will almost definitely be a wait. That said, their bakery is open until 5/6 and fall is a great time to stop in for their apple cider donuts. This is probably one of the go-to spots in town for birthday cakes, and they don't disappoint. There is table seating and bar seating if you just want a coffee and some breakfast to go.

Chris Saccardi

An old standby still has great food that's worth the wait. My wife loved her burger with cheddar inside smothered in jalapeños. My pesto omelette was delicious and the muffins are amazing....

Cody

Good service, fast food, robust menu options

Grace McLaughry

Lou's has an old-school diner atmosphere with a new-age menu. They still have the classics like eggs, bacon, home fries, donuts, and milkshakes (coffee has my vote). They also have wonderful new options and specials each day. My favorite right now is the Poached Eggs on Sweet Potato and Black Bean Hash with a side of fruit.

James Napier

Great place. Favorite is the corned beef hash with poached eggs - yum! Always great service from the awesome staff.

akshay bagi

Best pancakes in the town. Friendly service.

Isaac F

Great food. Fun little diner spot

Jean-Luc LEGRAS

Typical restaurant : I got a nice American breakfast

Swan

Ok. Don't know if the owners want to know this but the waitress who was super friendly to us kind a kept some money for herself. We ordered dessert at the end and she didn't write it on the ticket. Just brought them out and gave us the change right out of her little apron pocket thingy. Breakfast otherwise was just ok. A little overpriced but the place is just so adorable.

Noe Garcia

Great bacon maple syrup..

Mike C

What a disappointment. Touted as a NH tradition with an awesome breakfast we found that to not be entirely true. When we first walked in it was chaotic. 3 lines and no employee to direct traffic. 1 line was for takeout, 1 was just people standing around and the last one was for the dining room. Not knowing this we actually lost 3 places as those who did just walked past us to get in the right line. Once we figured it out we had a 15to20 minute wait for a table. Our server was courteous but brisk as she was slammed. Finally our breakfast came and here it failed. The French Toast cruller and my wife's waffle (tasteless was the word she used) were so cold the butter wouldn't melt. The eggs were lukewarm and the potatoes tasted like dirt. The fried chicken and the sausage were very good. The high point was the banana nut muffin. Big, light but dense and very tasty. In all fairness it was a Saturday morning but not worth the $30 we were charged.

MaryElizabeth Royce

Always the perfect brunch spot to catch up with your friends (grab a muffin and thank me later).

Jesse Kuhn

The best! Awesome donut and pastry selection. Breakfast sandwiches and french toast made with donuts!! Great menu selection. Super High quality diner food.

David DeNaples

Best breakfast in town. Old school deliciousness.

Irunnoft

This is THE place to eat in Hanover. Period. The service is as good as the food! Lou’s breakfasts are award winning - literally! Their lunch offerings are also amazing! Lou’s also has an ever changing list of weekly breakfast and lunch specials. I never make a trip to Hanover without stopping at Lou’s at least twice! They also have an amazing bakery to tempt you, as well. Their donuts, cakes, pastries and pies (try the Mile High Apple!) are beyond ridiculously good! If I lived locally, I’d be a regular at this place. Yeah....it’s really THAT good!

Laura K

Love this place.

Ian Nielsen

Pastries were dry. My kids wouldn't even eat them

Colleen Stock

Good.Food. Stopped in to meet a friend for lunch on our way to Maine. The food was excellent as promised. The atmosphere is fun, the food is good and well priced, and the staff is attentive and accommodating. I had the Dude Burger (a special this week), my husband had the Rueben (he loved it), and our friend had the Corned Beef Had w/ Egg (also loved). Stop on in if you're in Hanover for some good food in a good environment.

Dave Meketansky

Food is amazing, service is very friendly and helpful and despite long lines, they work very fast while still not feeling like they rush you. Pro tip: Breakfast all day > Order the french toast cruller > Get a slice of pie for later

Rebecca Smedy

Very busy here.

Gene Wehrenberg

Nice assortment of breakfast choices. Muffins are awesome.

Taylor Davis

So good! Staff was wonderful.

patrick p

The donuts are the best in NH and the best I've ever had great frendly staff and a very clean bakery

Daniel Johnson

Great food and good service

Nishant Sinha

Loved the big breakfast that they serve.

Zachary Doyle

Great breakfast place with good portions and great pancakes, but the line is brutal at times and pretty unpredictable.

Robin Maynard

The food was good as breakfasts go but be sure you check out the menu prices carefully. I didn't want a full breakfast so I ordered 1 pancake and a side of 2 scrambled eggs. The eggs were $5.95 and ONE pancake was $7.45! Yes, you heard me correctly, 1 single pancake by itself was $7.45. Seriously!?!?!

Nick Kessler

It's Lou's! Recommend their bakery catering. Picked up a carrot cake for a birthday and it was fresh, moist and delicious. I only wish that there were more customization options for the frosting but I think had I bothered to call Lou's certainly would have made it happen.

Nick Martelli

One of the best meals I had in America made even better by Ginny's amazing service, my coffee was never empty under her careful supervision. My sandwich was cooked to perfection and the mixed berry pie tasted like it was made using a well-guarded family recipie from generations ago. If you're ever in Hanover you must eat here.

Peter Stover

Delicious local food, great place.

A Box of Hornets

Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Can get busy at times but always worth it.

Rachel Peranzi

Great gluten free options including fresh baked goodies!

Jennifer Jurczynski

Best breakfast in the Hanover + Dartmouth area... but it's very small so do plan on waiting in line for roughly 15-20 minutes. The Cruller French Toast was sweet and delicious!

Paul Reilly

Lou's is to love: the food, the people watching, the character, and did I mention the food? The strawberry jam is out of this world good. The omelets are fantastic. It goes on and on. And I didn't even mention the mile-high pies. My wife and I look forward to every trip to the Hanover region if only for Lou's.

Michael Sofis

Best breakfast place I've ever been too!

Rosalie Mckenzie

Best breakfast in hanover

John Rogers

Excellent people and breakfast. Highly suggested.

Komal Gupta

Certainly is the best breakfast place in town.

Lidia Lopez

Best breakfast in town!!! Love the vegan breakfast cookie!!!

John Rosenthal

3x in 3 days. Get the drift?

Jim Ryan

Classic "Diner/Restaurant" in Hanover. Very good food, service and people.

Kelly Goetzfried

Awesome place! The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was delicious! We were staying about 30mins away this past week, and we ended up going to Lou's twice for breakfast. My mother-in-law has celiac disease and they have many gluten free options, including freshly baked muffins and cupcakes.

Craig Herrick

Okay, it might not be five star in the sense of fine dining, but I sure wish I lived up the street and could drop in for breakfast a few times a week. Lou’s is a throwback to the days when food was good and simple and priced for the everyday diner. The ambiance is out of the 40’s while being fresh and bright.

Kristine Gorman

Good food for dine in or take out. Excellent bakery. Gluten free options. Sweet place to meet up with a friend for a meal.

Douglas Mullins

Stop in and enjoy the baked goods. Food is also great!

Marcos Gallego Llorente

Amazing place to have breakfast! Fabulous omelettes. I’ll repeat next time I’m in the area!

Peter de Boursac

Amazing - this is the classic oldschool dartmouth diner. Tonnes of history and the food is delicious. Waitresses are so friendly, though expect to wait for a while in line if you're not sitting at the bar.

김은성

We love it. Yummy!

Meagan Royer

Delicious, filling portions. Enough to share! Great service by Jenny!

Jacob McGinnis

Get them good crullers

nancy pane

Great breakfast...fast service

randall norcross

What can I say.... awesome... biscuit and gravy breakfast was so delicious and to top off with a pie. Last place I enjoyed before heading out of Dartmouth.

habi tawfiq

French toast could be better

Kate McNaughton

Went here 3 times during our week-long stay. Very friendly service, huge albeit delicious serves of food. Got one of the famous pies to take home for dessert- so so good. Do it. Had a long wait (45 mins or so) for food week after graduation but our server was so sweet and apologetic, we didn't really mind. She said the cooks weren't used to such big crowds. A must-do when in Hanover!

Colleen O'Connor

This diner is very cute with lots of breakfast & lunch options. I picked the half and half lunch option with a greek salad and chicken salad sandwich. Both were delicious and I was very happy with my choice. I also got a piece of blueberry peach pie to go (their pies look made from scratch & delicious). They have tons of yummy sweet treats available & offer many gluten free options including gluten free quiche. I definitely would recommend this place!

J A

So Lou's is fun and they have good breakfast. Their pastries are way too rich, but I honestly like the novelty of just having them at the location that they're at. I won't go back because I got the donut French toast, whatever it's called. It was raw. I showed the manager and he was not only indifferent, he acted as if I shouldn't complain because it's just something that happens when you cook large batches of pastries. Not the kind of kitchen standards and management I want to take a chance with.

Peter MacGillivray

Back there this noon for lunch. Place was packed. Standing room only. 10 minute weight but it was worth it.

Nicholas Patrick

top notch, their pancakes are so crispy crunch and fluffy all at the same time, I have no idea how they do it, its so amazing.

Dave Marmaros

PRO: food was tasty and reasonable prices CON: was NOT worth the 1h wait-in-line...

Guinevere Downey

ive been going to lous for years and years, and the service has always been absolutely top-notch for the entire time ive been going here. my only complaint is that you have to pay extra for real maple syrup. otherwise, the food is great, the wait isnt too bad, the atmosphere is wonderful.

Ashley Potwin

I got rocks in my beans, waitress and manager brushed it off as it was a normal occurrence. They offered me free dessert, to go with my breakfast..

Raz

As long time standing popular breakfast and lunch spot in Hanover, it serves tasty comfort food with a dinner service and atmosphere. The place is pretty popular so expect some wait for either takeout or getting a seat.

Steve Knight

First time here. Nice peoples and good food for lunch.

Alexandra Brandt

Fun, cute place to go for some awesome all-day breakfast food. Big portions, and it's usually busy so expect a wait time. I've waited for 30 minutes here once to get a table, but it's always been worth it. Good bakery selection too, you can order cakes for birthdays and stuff.

Dave Kelly

Food is great and the staff is so friendly that they made me feel like a regular.

Sean Michael Powers

Great service, great food. Be there before 9 on the weekends because it gets packed. The little green is an awesome fair.

Sam Clark

I love Lou's! Over the years prices have gone up and quality has maintained consistency. This is never the first stop when I come back to town but it is one worth making. The line moves quick, the portions are heavy, parking is convenient and service prompt.

Alex McConnell

Always a good meal

David Doherty

One of the best hole in the wall places out there. Great food friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Decent breakfast all day. Nothing particularly special. The cruller French toast is noteworthy.

Stephen Conti

Amazingly delicious food with a fast friendly waitress as sweet as the cruller french toast

James Stinson

It was a great breakfast

Carlos Garcia

Great all around breakfast place with a short wait times during peak times. Our favorite was the cruller french toast which is something close to challah bread...but a little different :) Would definitely come again

Thomas Boutilier

This place is truly a localvore's paradise. It has a great breakfast menu, fast service from friendly people and good coffee.

Marcia Keller

We have been on a quest to find The Perfect Ginger Molasses Cookie all over New England and New York. Stopped at many, many small local bakeries searching for the best GM cookie. Well, we found it right here at Lou’s. Great texture- chewy in the middle (no unbaked cooky dough taste), A little crisp on the edges. Not cakey. Deep molasses flavor with a bite of ginger. And not too sweet. And none of this nonsense sugar crystals on top. A perfect ginger molasses cookie. Thank you, Lou’s.

Chad St. Onge

Good food. Some healthy items. I got the brisket special and it was much better than expected. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food

efrain barrales

Good service and delicioso food

Cristy Andrea Altamirano

My brother loved the breakfast we shared here, and it was great to have the special eggs benedict, as always.

Jerry D PION

Love the food and atmosphere!

Logan Humphreys

Best place in Hanover, hands down! Any meal is great but especially my favorite time to go is for a big, warm breakfast on a brisk Upper Valley morning. A true institution in Hanover and the region. Great bakery too, for grab and go items.

Jean Bissell

Small restaurant, had to wait for the good food. Had gluten free items on menu. If you don't mind waiting, great place to go.

Matthew George

OMG. Best Breakfast out there. Try the Cruller Donut French Toast. Mouth watering just thinking about it.

Nic Longo

What a great place! Friendly, happy staff delicious food and great atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back!!!

Anya L

Food was decent but we had to wait over 30 min to get our meal.
