Everything I have eaten at Elephantine's Bakery has been the absolutely amazing! The chocolate croissants, the breads, the sandwiches! They are all absolutely delicious. On top of the amazing food, the service is phenomenal and the space is incredibly clean! Can't wait to go back and visit again!

I had the pleasure of visiting the Elephantine Bakery in Portsmouth, NH today, for the first time. Wonderful atmosphere with a tasteful decor. While this little gem is tucked away on a side street, you can find it quite easily - just follow your nose. The owner himself greeted us with a smile. I have tried a couple of items, and I'm hooked. the almond croissants are the best I have tasted on this side of the ocean. They just melt in your mouth leaving a delicious taste and smooth palate. The only other almond croissants that come close to being this good are the ones I tasted in Ibiza, Spain many moons ago. I have also tried their soft pretzels - another great choice with European undertones of sour dough. Just lovely. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys well made food, unpretentious atmosphere, and the flavors that are hard to find outside of Europe and the Mediterranean. I will definitely make it a point to visit any time I find myself in Portsmouth.

Amazing pastry, friendly and competent staff, and cute and cozy atmosphere. There are even little blankets or their outdoor cafe tables! Feels cute and authentically French.

Best Caprese sandwich, very fresh and mozzarella was creamy and delicious. Portsmouth must!

We stopped by here while wandering around, and were more than pleasantly surprised. I picked up the almond croissant, and it was BY FAR one of the best I've ever eaten. Perfectly flaky on the outside, but moist and flavorful on the outside. I also tried some of the cheese pastry that had a lemon taste- perfection. The owner, who told us he studied pastry making in France, was such a nice person to chat with. Him and his wife just recently opened the doors in December, and it is wonderfully decorated and feels cozy and warm. And uou can see the ovens through the glass behind the counter! We're absolutely making it a point to stop by whenever we're in Portsmouth.

Pastries were amazing. And the service was fantastic. The barista didn't make my coffee decaf (not a big deal!); they remade it immediately, apologized profusely and gave me a cookie to apologize. Fantastic service! Not something that would have happened in Boston. Would have recommended this place anyway just based on the food but now a *highly* recommended place.

A Welcomed Portsmouth Addition Recently arrived to downtown Portsmouth, this bakery is owned and operated by a passionate and very talented couple. Their baked goods are exceptional, with artesian breads, pastries and jambon-burre sandwiches, accompanied by consistently friendly service. It's a special place.

Somebody suggested me to try this bakery and their coffee. It did not disappoint. Really good baked items that are delicious. I just had a croissant and it was so delicious, just like the one I had in France, may be even better. Can't wait to go back again.

Everything we got was very good. Best pretzel I've ever had! Unfortunately it was later in the day and their stock was lacking. Probably just proves how great their breads are. Definitely should go if you like baked goods/ pastries. Just go early.

Uma Ramiah

Best, warmest, loveliest most delicious spot in town.

Christopher Matrumalo

Amazing bread and pastries. Best hot chocolate in Portsmouth. The most overwhelmingly warm and genuine owners. Everything is so meticulously cared for, from their baked goods to their customers. It's the kind of place you'll just want to visit every day. Easy five stars.

A wonderful new edition to Portsmouth. Great baked goods!

Great spot. The crowds amake that clear and they haven't been open that long. We really like the Egyptian bread pudding but have yet to find anything we don't like including the (La Colombe) espresso.

Jon Christiansen

Delicious french pastries. The staff is very friendly and inviting. Best baguette on the seacoast.

Great bakery however no gluten-free food items (last time I checked). Really good coffee. Friendly and personal service. Overall it has a sophisticated cosmopolitan feel. It's become my favorite little coffee shop for a quick cup and chat. It is NOT a place to hang out with a laptop.

Joel Colodner

I was visiting family in Portsmouth, and after lunch we happened to walk through town. My cousin commented that a new bakery had opened only a month earlier. We stopped in and I am pleased to say this is one of the best bread bakeries I have had the pleasure of visiting. I say bread bakeries as that was all I bought. A baguette and some fougasse, all of which were beautifully and perfectly baked. I have every expectation the other baked goods, pastries and cakes, are equally fine. The almond Croissants, my cousin tells me, are to die for - and I trust my cousin! She also rates their coffee highly. This a a charming place that is clearly run with love and care. The products, customer care, and quaintness of the establishment are all 5 stars.

I had the best croissant I've ever had in my life. It was a chocolate almond variety

You can not get “sold out” on coffee!!! This is not first time, they want to have free afternoon on the weekend and then they close the store with “excuses”!!! Consistency is important, because I wont go next time as it is like lottery always if they are open or closed. So pity, I really think they had potential to be good and different!!!

Emma Johansen

Delicious!

On our first visit to Portsmouth last week we were very lucky to find Elephantine. This the most delicious pastery we have ever tasted! The chocolate almond croissant was to die for. We went back the next day. A very nice young couple working to create a wonderful experience for their customers. 5 stars. Sue from western Massachusetts.

Fun, busy place.

Greg Pruitt

Great pastries and coffee. Sweet spot tucked in a shopping alley downtown.

Wow! Fantastic croissants! Wonderful atmosphere! Just delightful!

Dan Tran

My wife and I came here yesterday to try it out for the first time...what an exquisite delight! It was SO EXCELLENT that we immediate came back the next morning. The atmosphere is so welcoming and pleasant. The smiles on the entire staff is what separates them from the rest. And trust me, top-notch customer service is hard to come by. The espresso drinks they craft from their La Marzocco espresso machine are high-quality. The new gold standard in town. (See picture—which does no justice). Now THAT’S how you do latte foam! Their pastries are on a whole new level. I am lost for words and will NEED to come back to try other items. Best new game in town! Well done Sherif and team.

My husband ordered an amazing chocolate cake from Elephantine bakery for my birthday! It was by far my favorite cake yet. Thank you Sherif for accommodating on such short notice and for the fabulous baklava too! We will be back again for sure.

This is such a gem in the heart of Portsmouth. The pastries are out of this world, especially along side a nice cappuccino. Always such fabulous service in a warm inviting atmosphere. Enjoy!

OUTSTANDING in every way. Delicious croissants and baked goodies. Cappuccinos and Lattes are nothing short of perfection. Beautiful, simple fresh flowers at each table for two, fabulous funky wallpaper and chill music takes your mind to another world. Sherif and team are just amazing!! From remembering our names (we are brand new customers), to taking pride in their product- it will make you feel you are invited into their home, not bakery. I’m just so sad I’ve only now tried them.
