Best croissants you'll find in STL. A true European bakery right here in the Midwest. European style in the fact that there's counter space for eating there quickly or you can grab and go. Definitely worth going over and over again.

Uneven product. I have had wonderful items from the bakery an some pretty bad. I just bought a chocolate pound cake on Friday morning and served that night. Dry as a bone, Little Debbie cakes would have been much better. They need to tighten QC. I hope they do.

Nathaniel Reid's Chocolate Almond Croissant is the best-tasting pastry I have ever had the pleasure of sinking my pearly-whites into. My friend just returned from Paris and she said that this croissant was far better than anything she had enjoyed in France. That is saying something.

I had a chocolaty-caramel demi-globe thingy (just go there, then read the ingredients and point and say "that one").Tastes great! Exquisite, fun place, knowledgeable and genuine staff. If you don't know about this place, blink and you'll miss it in this tiny strip mall in Kirkwood, which is a really nice "inner belt" St. Louis town. This bakery wouldn't be out of place in Manhattan, Chicago, or Paris. It is that good. Better than Dominique Ansel Bakery in SoHo and I've been to both. For the record, Ansel's place is pretty awesome too.

This bakery makes eye candy with their pastries.They are a must try and just bursts flavor in your mouth. They have sandwiches too and a small eating area. However, nothing for a full sit down giving the European feel. The cost is on the very high end, but definitely okay for something for special occasions or once in a while. Great people working there they believe in what they do! I'd recommend a larger area however.

Nathaniel Reid's almond croissants defy logic and reason with their pitch perfect crunch/sweet/caramel/almond balance, and I now view my life in two periods; Pre-Croissant and Post-Croissant. Every sweet crusty bite is a rumination on what it means to have taste-buds. For the rest of my life, all croissants will be judged by the ineffable deliciousness of these freaking croissants. This place is phenomenal! It's easy to overlook, as it's hidden in a little Kirkwood plaza, but you'd be making a huge mistake if you passed it by. I've been to Paris, and the incredibly flaky croissants here are the closest to French perfection I've tasted since. Their pastries are like pieces of artwork. They almost look too good to eat, but once you stop taking pictures and finally dig in, you'll be hit with a wave of unexpected textures, flavor combinations, and decadence that you won't find in any regular dessert. I can't rave enough about how skilled the pastry chefs and bakers are here. My only regret is that I didn't give Nathaniel Reid's a try sooner!

My experience at the Nathaniel Reid Bakery met and exceeded all of the expectations I had. I tried the kouign amann, chocolate almond croissant, and several of the macarons. The macarons were delicious (I liked the pistachio the best), and the pastries were incredibly flaky and buttery. It will be hard to visit any bakery in the future, as they will all be compared to Nathaniel Reid. If I could give more stars, I would as my actual assessment is 10/5.

Our first visit to this well known establishment. I found the croissants to be just ok. I think he sweetens the dough and the batch we purchased did not have the rich butter flavor I would expect. They were also overdone by about 3 minutes. The Croc Monsieur was also overdone. The Pavlova pastry was very good, but I was under the impression a true pavlova had a meringue top and bottom. I’m not sure I’ll make another trip. Thanks.

This place is a conundrum. On one hand you have the talented and accomplished Mr. Reed. On the other hand, the location is set in a run down strip mall with no parking and a retail space that is not inviting without a place to sit and enjoy your obscenely priced purchase. This is a Panera neighborhood where patrons will scoff at the overly high prices at Nathaniel Reed Bakery. By the way, this is an upscale patisserie not a "bakery". You will not find bread here.

Finally came here after hearing the rave on Y98. It is truly a hidden gem. Beautiful desserts in the display case. The almond croissants are succulent and buttery. My favorite is the kouign amann. It came very close to the first one I tried in Montreal. I will be be coming back. Great bakery with friendly staff. Quick in and out too.

**Update: Second visit was excellent First visit, wrong order I stopped by on my way to work for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. Everything in the case looked amazing. I asked for the breakfast on sourdough to go (which was pre-made that morning) and waited 5 minutes for them to heat it up. Instead of my order I received a different sandwich on a croissant. The cashier offered to fix the order but at that point it was very busy and I couldn’t wait another 5 minutes so I took it and left. It was good, but it was also $7 and not what I ordered. If customers are going to spend 10 min in your store to get a coffee and a sandwich you have to get the order right. And if you don’t, offer to comp the sandwich or hand out a manager’s coupon or something. Make me want to come back and give it another shot. I’ve heard great things about this bakery but I just kind of left today disappointed because of a simple order screw up.

Food: AMAZING! I do not live or work in or near Kirkwood, but any time I have an excuse to make this bakery a part of my driving route, I do. I love trying new and different items. I have tried the chocolate, french macaroons, sandwiches, cookies, pastries, and tarts and cakes so beautiful you almost feel guilty cutting into them then you eat it and the taste is so good the guilt disappears. There is not one thing I wouldn't recommend. I have a weakness for french macaroons, so that is what I always get plus whatever else I am in the mood for. Service: I have only experienced welcoming, friendly, and helpful customer service each time I have entered. Sometimes Mr. Reid himself comes out and will greet you. I have seen him only twice and he recognized me the second time and he has always thanked me for stopping in!

Unbelievably good pastries and the friendliest staff! We got the almond croissant, the breakfast sandwich (which we were told "runs out fast"), a Kouign-Amann, 2 macarons and cappuccino. It was all so good, I don't know how I could choose what to order next time. I think I'll have to get it all again! We came to St.Louis for the Eclipse and stopped by this bakery. Absolutely the best pastries we've had. The workers were vey kind and the breakfast sandwiches were great. Definitely come back if we ever visit St.Louis again.

First rate bakery, with an award winning chef, tucked away in a non-descript suburban strip mall. Great place to get a hearty sandwich, a well designed pastry, an elegant dessert, or a confectionary gift.

Nice pastries and sandwiches. Pricey but totally worth it. Quiche are $4.50, sandwiches $7 to $8, pastries around $4.50 and big cookies for $3. Lots of hand made chocolate too.

Beautiful and delivery, traditional European pastries including a variety of croissants, macarons, tarts, quiche, cakes and cookies. Sandwiches and salads are also available. There is also nice array of coffee drinks.
