REVIEWS OF Tobies Restaurant & Bakery IN Minnesota

Levi Wait

Delicious as always! This place is a iconic stop when traveling through

Troy Petersen

Turkey club on a cranberry English muffin was fantastic. Everything is always great!

Joyce Bolduan

Great bakery, food and servers Go all the time when in the area Stickey buns out of the world

Carol Lockman

A favorite stop on the trip between Duluth and the Twin Cities Metro area. Washrooms are kept clean. The staff is friendly. Bakery choices are delicious, fresh and plentiful, although not inexpensive. When stopping for a meal in the restaurant or just a quick break at the convenience store, purchases can be made quickly. Caribou coffee is served. Gluten free food choices are available.

Jessica Boser

Food was okay, a bit overpriced for what you get. Service was great and fast just not real impressed with the food.

Nicole Gibas

My husband and I each ordered the walleye sandwich and they were served to us raw. Waiter was kind and helpful, and didn’t charge us for the meals (of course). We had eaten there in May 2013 and were served chicken that was raw in the middle. I don’t know why we went back. Stick to the bakery!

Phyllis Porter

This is a good halfway stop from the Twin cities to Duluth. Food is good and the pastries are delicious.

The

Great service. But the coffee is bland, food overpriced, bacon was obviously cooked in the morning and reheated for each order. Worst breakfast I've had in a while.

Kassy Cartie

The food was amazing and the wait staff was perfect. The bakery was delicious

jeffrey klar

Always have to eat here every visit.

Doug Junker

Awesome bakery! My carnal roll was still warm from out of the oven!

Ruth Johnson

Good food and great service - thanks Stella!

Duane Camitsch

Always a great stop on the trek up north. Of course the pastries are top shelf if you are just making a pit stop. But the restaurant is excellent for when you have more time! We've had breakfast, lunch and dinner and all are fresh, hot and well prepared. The atmosphere is relaxed and they make the time there pleasant. Great staff and very good food.

Cassandra Wrisley

I can only review the service as we never got our order. After a road trip we stopped in for a treat. A slice of pie to splt and a sundae for the kiddo. It's seat yourself and we waited 15 minutes to get noticed when there were only 4 other tables full. When we ordered, the waitress said she'd have to see if anybody knew how to make a turtle sundae despite it being pretty basic and the ingredients being listed on the menu. I finally convinced her if it just had chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and pecans we'd be happy. 30 minutes after we ordered one slice of pie and an easy ice cream dish, we got tired of waiting and left.

Bill Gawthrop

Fast service even when they are busy. Plus the food is always great. Best of all the servers are the friendliest and most proficient.

Dale Engebretson

Oh for yummies!!! Need to eat a meal here as I have not since I was a kid. But they have fantastic pastries!!! Tons of choices and very fresh!!! The gas station next to them also sells there bakery yummy goodness.

Az Guy

Can't remember the last time going up north without stopping by here! Went to Duluth for the airshow, and stopped by here to have ONE caramel rolls (sharing it with my son). On our way back, we bought a dozen ! to give it to our neighbors hahaha......LOVE IT! My mouth is watering thinking about the rolls !

Sarah

The food was good but our waitress was horrendously rude. She kept rushing our table to order. At the end when we went to order desert, there was a slight bit of confusion and she completely lost her cool. She needs a little more love in her life. Hopefully she was nicer to other customers.

J Hayes

Why am I giving this place 4 stars?? Well, the summer salad with the parmesan dill dressing was Awesome!! The bill was 50 bucks without any drinks. The atmosphere was quite but worth it. The waitress was nice. No. I didn't order a cinnamon roll..because of the size.

Gary Anderson

Been there every time we go north. Usually just for awesome pastries. Our wait staff was wonderful as we had service dog with

Dan Richie

Been going there since it was just a Greyhound rest stop. Awesome to see the complex that it has become. Part of my childhood.

Byron Kolz

We've been stopping at Tobies for many years. Tobies is an institution and a favorite stop for people heading up north from the Cities. The food is plain, hearty Midwest cuisine, nothing fancy but tasty and served in generous portions. Service has always been prompt even during busy times. They also feature an excellent bakery.

Jeannie Shubitz

The necessary stop on our way Up North! Maple fried roll and pecan rolls are a staple. Sandwiches are also a good grab and go option.

Kathy Adams

Excellent food and plenty of it! Clean, roomy and friendly. Great place!

Chris Pearson

Amazing baked goods, large menu to fit all tastes.

John Kennedy

Great cinnamon/caramel/pecan rolls. I stop there every time I go by. And sometimes make a special trip to go the 80 miles just to get them. They are fresh all day and they keep making them.

Janis Conrad

Always a great place to stop. And the best cinnamon rolls ever!

Daniel Matuska

Always pretty good food. Sausage links were done but not really hot off the grill.

Matrica Lieva

Our first time at Tobies, delicious Steak and Eggs and great service. Lovely Lovely Lady was our Server this morning!

patricia waldron

Local legend for baked goods (especially caramel and cinnamon rolls) and half-way point between Duluth & Minneapolis. It’s almost always busy, but they serve people quickly at the counter as well as in the dining area. Full menu of Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Big selection of baked goods, breads, pies etc to take home with you. Servers are great, friendly and efficient. Very reasonable prices especially given nearly everything is homemade.

Soumil Mukherjee

Amazing Turle Mocha at Caribou Coffee

Townley Jasen

The Walleye was good ,the prices were a little high but nice atmasphere nice people

Morganne Pearson

Bakery items are delicious! Caramel rolls and the cinnamon raisin bread.

Angi Lee

AMAZING food, great selections, and of course....some of THE BEST bakery treats I 've ever had!!!

Rebecca Ricks

Best cinnamon rolls ever. Been stopping by there for a long time.

Sabrina Stauffer

It’s difficult to give them the one star. I’ve stopped there for years, but my last visit was my last visit. The service was downright rude, and the clerk, she acted like it was such a bother to ring me up. The food was 2 star, but 5 star prices. I mentioned my experience to a manager and all she said was “she’s going through some stuff right now”. No apology. No offer to make amends. Ok, I know how I rate. There’s nothing Tobie’s offers that is worth that treatment.

MNtwinsfan4ever

Their caramel rolls are famous. But not as good as they used to be years ago. But still worth the stop. ** bonus.... Ice cream at the side of the building is really good!

Mary Frontz

Service and food were very good.

Ellen McNeary

cinnamon rolls very large and delicious. service was very good and pretty fast for a large order.

Anica Olson

We come here every year for mothers day brunch and it's always good! I give 5 stars for the brunch. I haven't been in the regular dining area for a few years so I can't comment on recent service.

Kelsey Becker

I've been stopping here my entire life, we always have to stop if we're on 35. Unfortunately, we are usually late, and they have already sold out of their famous caramel rolls for the day. But if you're able to snag one, they're amazing!!

Sandy Krohn

Always stop here to and from Duluth for breakfast. Great food

Jack Doyle

It's a family travel tradition!! Love the carmel pecan rolls! Yummy!

Carmen Werning

Fast service and great food, large menu.

tim seldal

We ended up walking out because the service was so slow! And the prices are so high! We never even talked to a waitress or got drinks... Don't understand what the big hype with this place is...

Roger Titus

Excellent Donuts excellent, rolls delicious stop there

Ryan Willette

Has some pretty good food. The rolls were really dry, the bacon was undercooked (for my liking) and the omlete had way too much ham. The ham was big square hunks. Other than that, I had no problem. Our waiter was very nice.

Karen M

We stopped Sunday evening to eat at the restaurant. The salad was limp but edible until I saw the mold on the cauliflower. The server was nice about it and gave us a free slice of pie to go as an apology for the salad. I should've looked at the pie before I left because it was OLD too! We threw it out when we got home. This restaurant has been going downhill for years, and this was the final nail in its coffin for me. We won't be back. I hate to make the extra drive to the busy casino, but we will from now on.

Katherine Smith

Tobies is awesome. They were packed so we waited 20 minutes to order, but the waitress comped out drinks as compensation. Food was delicious.

Leo Pusateri

Great food, great portions, awesome bakery! A must-stop on your travels on Hwy 35 to Duluth.

Daily Inferno

I arrived there with 1 person ahead of me in line, the order was fast and over. I then step up to the counter and the cashier walks off, during 7 minutes of waiting I see several people look at me and pass by including the cashier. I was completely ignored and my guest time going there, is also my last. I never felt so disrespected at a restaurant before. It's not like I was crabby or anything, but apparently they just chose who to serve or not. All I wanted was to see a menu for the restaurant.

Tim Gorski

The BEST pastries in the state! Try the nutty fried roll, you're welcome.

Tom Knutson

Very good food and can't leave without getting some caramel rolls to go!

Sovalon Torres

Pretty happy overall. Minor good ups like warm water served in a kids cup, crutons put on a salad for someone eating gluten free and whatnot. Food was pretty good and our server was nice and helpful.

Merja Carrano

I asked milk for my coffee Betty told me no milk for my coffee, only half&half??? On Sunday I had better service from the young girl she went back and got me milk for coffee. Wonder what happened Minnesota niceness? On Sunday I had 5 star experience but today only 1 star.

Jennifer Karas

Busy place! We sat on the bar side(as opposed to the two restaurant seating areas). Got seated immediately, and ordered from the exact same menu as the restaurant seating, without the wait so that was nice. The food was fine. Nothing wrong with it, not great, not bad- just standard diner/cafe food. Prices are little high for what you get in my opinion. But I'd eat here again if I was passing through and not wanting to deal with the casino crowd. I'd imagine it's a place where a lot of the locals go.

Jeremy Egli

Friendly staff but crazy busy with poorly managed lines all to get something slightly better than the grocery store, just much bigger. I guess it's a good deal but you're definitely paying for quantity over quality.

Krystal Dailey

Excellent food. Good pancakes and waffles. Service is wonderful. Seems to be very busy anytime you go.

Martin LaVenture

Toby's and Hinkley are always a nice stop for our travels north. from Minneapolis. While traveling to Northern Wisconsin we headed up 35 North and stopped at Tobies midway. Gas, excellent pastries and we were on our way.

eric pone

I tried to buy a mug and man at the register this morning was rude and disrespectful. He ruined what had been an A+ experience.

Tyler Anderson

the bakery side is very good. been a while since I was to the restaurant due to it being very ok last few times I was there.

Sir Alexander

You know, Tobies is pretty good, they have a whole host of stuff including a Caribou Coffee, but the one and only complaint I have is the parking lot. For some weird reason, it is always hectic and the lot has a "one way" but no real signage outside of the lot to discern what direction that one way is. People are always coming up the one way while others are going down, meanwhile people are trying to back out and leave...its confusing and something as simple as clear signs could fix it.

Abby Kerr

I've come to this restaurant every time my family goes to Duluth because it's on the way. The breakfast is especially great, but the service can be slow when it's really busy. Otherwise, a good ol place to eat

jazeem jaleel

Good food. Great place to stop for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner/ snack when traveling to Duluth from Minneapolis

Joyce Pegors

The manager Betty let 5 of us(4 from Duluth and 1 from Mpls.) Have breakfast in the dinning room at 9:00 a.m. and then played scrabble. The food was great, waitress very attentive. We hope to do it again soon.

JustSeth

Yes. If you're going here, I'd recommend their surf and turf. Cod and Steak. Workers here are extremely inviting and seem very genuine with their attitudes. Only problem I had when coming here is that the first steak I was given was completely red on the inside, they were quick to fix the issue, but it took a total 2 tries to bring me a steak that was medium rare, not including the steak being brought out to me in the first place. However, the Cod was seasoned and cooked to perfection, if I could have afforded it, I would have piled thousands of that stuff on my plate.

Tami Lund

Sweet place to rest at the halfway point to Duluth. The rolls are out. Of. This. World!!

Betty Waltrip

Hostess was awesome but waitress needs to be more aware of her customers. She interrupted me at least 3 times as I was visiting with my husband during our meal. Also, restaurant needs to have more bathrooms available

Sharon Koller

We stopped for dinner and bought krispies (elephant ears) to take home. Good food! Love their bakery too

Audrey Kludtke

Maple bacon donut is definitely best! Oh cinnamon rolls? Oh yes! Can’t pick one of those bakery! Worth to stop every time!

Stephanie Steinbron

An iconic spot, good donuts, cinnamon roll was huge. I prefer my donuts heated up slightly so eating a non-warmed pastry just isn't as good in my own little opinion. It was busy but the workers were efficient and friendly. Clean bathrooms as well. Always fun to say you stopped at a travelers favorite little place.

Dave Broscious

Great walleye sandwich. Great sweet rolls. Great cheesecake.

Dana Hall

The best place to swing by for yummieees, gasing up, restaurant and best of all there's ice cream parlor & rest oooooooo!!!

Mick Roush

Good food and the BEST carmel pecan rolls! Highly recommend.

Erik Daniels

Staff were nice. The drinks from Caribou were kinda pricey compared to the cities for some reason. But other than that it's a cool place. Good treats as well.

Barb Roberts

Very slow service, but good food

Tiffany Rupp

Typical American restaurant. Typical American fare with exceptions. The summer salad was quite good but would have been better without the cheese. Burgers are filling but taste is average. But the service is wonderful. Very very nice and the decor is quite unique.

Mr Peach Vlogs

Amazing place! You have to try the Carmel rolls! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a friendly place to stop and grab a bite to eat! We stop by almost every time we pass by! They easily earn an 11/10 highly recommend. Love it here and thanks to all the amazing staff

Alyson Armstrong

A "must" pit stop on the way north from the Twin Cities! I've dropped sugar from my diet so I'm going to need to be creative going forward :O

Joseph White

The restaurant food is good. The bakery items are legendary. I noticed on the way out that they do offer some gluten free bakery items but I didn't notice them before. I'll have to try them on my next visit.

Anders O

Food was solid, nothing special. Service was good. Overall, good place to stop if you're travelling on that stretch of 35.

David Murphy

Great bakery, wonderful rolls! Food was very tasty and well priced. Service was prompt, kind and attentive. Tried the Tobie's Egg Benidict. It was full of flavor and well portioned. If in the area, I would recommend stopping in.

Christopher Lehner

You walk in and right away you see and smell wonderful fresh pastries and breads. As busy as it is, they have a lot of friendly help in the store and restaurant.

Josh

Outrageously expensive and average food. I ordered the french toast for nearly $11.00. It doesn't come with ANY sides! No toast, no eggs, nothing. 4 slices of relatively small French toast for $11. Another group in my party ordered the cinnamon crunch french toast, same thing, no sides, but there also wasn't a single walnut in the french toast as described. I'll spend my money elsewhere that provides some decent value.

Angie Rieger

Always enjoy Tobies when I'm passing through the area. If you have a big appetite order a pastry and a meal, if not, I suggest sharing both! The omelets are huge and enough for 2 people for sure. The pecan roll is a great start to breakfast but easily shareable between 3 people! The bakery has great options to take home breads and other fabulous sweets.

Brian Ehlenbach

What more can you say about Tobies? Great place to stop on our way home from Duluth. The food was great, and we had to buy some pastries for the way home.

John Gerbec

Really cool inside dining area and the bakery items are yummy!

Gerbrand van de Beek

Nice breaks spot on the road to the North shore. This restaurant has been around for quite a while. Their cinnamon rolls are great so are their cookies. Food is good, nothing special, just what you would expect. Own a Tesla? This is where you want to use one of the many superchargers.

Mark Rogers

This is our halfway stop when heading up to Duluth! Time to stretch our legs, eat and hit the bathroom. Foods always good!

Alton Sogard

Had coffee and caramel rolls. Very good. Large. Their meals also good from previous visits

Chris Stover

It was delicious! I also enjoyed the outside look inside out of the weather.

Ian Heseltine

Great atmosphere. Easy to get in and out of. Features a caribou coffee as well.

Steven Kelly

We were seated, left menus, then ignored by multiple wait staff. After 20 minutes we got up and left. Pretty sad when I get better service from the gas station next door

Ellie W.

Always a favorite spot to stop for some delicious caramel rolls and some really good food. It's perfect to stop at from Minneapolis/Saint Paul on the way to Duluth/Two Harbours. Service is excellent too

Victoria Rock

At least once a year I get to visit and dine at this restaurant. I've always received excellent service. Also the rolls are amazing! They are requested by the rest of my family to bring home. The breakfast is usually what I order and it's been consistently delicious over the past few years.

Miranda Burris

Tobies Restaurant & Bakery is a great place to stop for whatever you need on that trip up to the lake! They have Caribou Coffee, amazing cinnamon rolls, and great food. They also have a bar, and a dining area downstairs for events. Definitely recommend, you have to stop for the cinnamon rolls!

Roberto Narciso

Waitress messed up our order by bringing the wrong food, didn't acknowledge her mistake when she knew we ordered chicken instead of beef, didn't apologize or offer the correct food. I ended up eating her meal and she ate mine , neither of us were happy about it. Prices too high and food not that great!!.

Devin jungbauer

Love the bakery best around always stop there and they always fresh

Megan Rogalla-Paul

The caramel peacan rolls were amazing. Was not impressed with portion size of steak bites dinner. The mushrooms were cold but peepers and onion mix was warm. Steak was room temp.

Erv Hardy

Service was good.Food was horrible and I won't be eating at the restaurant ever again. The bakery is great.

Erik Kessel

Best caramel amd cinnamon rolls around! Fantastic Fritters and a solid sit down menu ta-boot. A regular scheduled stop wjenever we pass by.

Tracey Parish

Food was a little greasy, but the housemade parmesan dill dressing was delicious and our server was so fast and kind. Loved the little gift shop and had to get caramel rolls to take with!

Sandy Fitch

Love this place Stopped every time going north on highway 35

Dan Babineau

tastey and expensive treats on your drive to/from Duluth

Nicholas C.

Went to the tavern side of the restaurant. Very classy feel with romantic lighting. Drinks were pretty good but the food was very sub par. Had a pasta dish and didn't think it was that good. Kind of bland and watery. Also a little expensive.

Becky Kritz

Fun place!! Great food and an amazing bakery and store. You need to go here....

Jayke Peters

Great food! Somewhat of a longer wait time but worthwhile. Great place to stop during a road trip. My dad said he used to go there all the time as a kid.

Ryan Hemenway

Tobies is iconic. Have a nice brunch on the way up north, or a dinner with a nice atmosphere. The bakery is always great too.

Joel Maunula

Even when full, they're good about getting you seated quickly. They cooked both my eggs and my steak perfectly. Friendly service, and alright prices. It's not a cheap joint, but it's a delicious one.

Deborah Everson

Stopped in on a Sunday for lunch around 1:30pm. This place was hopping. We were seated immediately, but then waited almost 15 minutes before anyone came to our table. It was frustrating to see others seated after us getting served. Finally the gal who seated us asked if we had been served yet. When we said no, she promptly got a server to our table. We almost walked out, but our server, Quinn, apologized and took our order. Our food came out shortly after ordering. The fries were hot and my chicken salad on croissant was delicious. My nieces burger was cooked to order and juicy. We were happy we didn't leave.

Sue Erstad

Awesome carmel and cinnamon rolls !

Nicholas Saint-Claire

The big gogo between Duluth and the Twin Cities. It’s a diner, but a super fun one. Staff has always been super courteous

Fay K

Food was terrible. Bakery items are great but restaurant food was cold and disgusting

Ryan Miller

It's a huge rest stop on hinkley mn I stop here to meet my business partner before we head up to our property in sandstone. You can .get everything gas...car wash ...there is An Inn ...ice cream shop and antique mall. There is a coffee shop there also. There is also a Tesla charging station. There are a few other restaurants down the street and it's not far from the casino.

John Williams

Tobies is one of those must stop places on your trip from the Twin Cities to Duluth, or anywhere near Hinkley. Yes it is just a restaurant but they have the best Cinnamon, Caramel, and Caramel nut rolls. They are always fresh, and I have yet to find anything like them in Minnesota. They are busy every time we have gone but have enough staff to move it along fairly quickly.

Britney Johnson

Our waitress Alice was very rude. She ignored our table, and when she finally came over she was very hostile. I ordered a morning cocktail, and she gave me the dirtiest look and rolled her eyes. When we asked for the check she said "I know your done". When we had been done for 15 minutes and she kept walking past us just looking at us. She also would cut us off when we tried to order things. It was a busy morning for them but the rest of the staff we interacted with were kind and friendly.

Destinee Working

Sunday AMs are busy so I understand but the staff looked so overworked and unfriendly...the breakfast was mediocre at best... The only thing that saved it was the cinnamon roll we ordered as an upgrade for one of our meals. Would not stop back.

Denese M.

Tobie's is a great place for a meal, but what they are famous for is their caramel rolls. It's nearly halfway between the Twin Cities and Duluth and is a perfect rest stop. The rolls are huge and delicious! You gotta try one on your next trip. They also have caramel pecan and cinnamon rolls that are also great along with donuts and many other fresh-baked treats and bread.

Lyn Lilienkamp

Stopped here for breakfast today had great service from the restaurant staff. Went into the gift shop cause we saw something we wanted to buy and the gal who worked in there was very rude!! Think twice about stopping in the gift shop if you go here.

Jireh Jaramillo

Tobies is a great stop on your way to Duluth. The town of Hinckley is honored in their menu where they have many old photographs from the town and history of the Great Hinckley fire that wiped out 459 people in September 1, 1894. They have many "Tobie favorites" in their menu that are really good! The food is fresh and it tastes fresh! Their customer service is great! I've gone to Tobie twice and both times, my waiters were really great!

Jonathan Posthuma

Classic diner, quintessentially Minnesotan and popular stop for heading up to the North Shore. Bakery is delicious or get breakfast all day.

Sandi Martig

My husband & I got breakfast sandwiches, they were good & not expensive! The atmosphere was very pleasant & relaxing, had good service too! We stop at this place every so often going to Duluth!

chadd gaither

Good but busy. Get the Carmel rolls to go and skip the lines.

Jason

Great bakery and a good place to stop between Duluth and the Twin cities

Josie Gausman

Stopping at Tobies for breakfast on the way up north has been a family tradition for years. Delicious food, fair prices, friendly service. We love their cardamom bread!

Chris Medeck

We stopped in for lunch, and despite being pretty busy we were seated quickly and were able to order without much delay. The food was good, not great, about what you'd expect from a roadside diner. Menu was basics and down home foods, no complaints here.

Sarah Anderson

LOVE Tobies, but a bit overpriced. Great to catch the travelling crowd. Good place to stop for a bite to eat on a trip between MSP and the North Shore. Fair warning if you come later in the evening, you likely won't have any of their famous cinnamon or caramel rolls left to choose from... just some candies, a few cookies, and a lackluster plain cake donut. But the caramel rolls are divine and the cinnamon rolls are almost sinful they are so rich. Service is great and always friendly. Also - try the Cardamom bread --- a surprise new favorite! Great flavor, a little different, but sweet and very tasty. Add a little butter and there is breakfast!

Patricia Heller

Tobies's is a legendary stop on the way to Duluth and the north shore. When they say they have the best cinnamon rolls, they do! It is a restaurant and bakery. It is a must stop. Great restaurant with good food. Hint: Tobie's gas station is next door and you can get the same great bakery goods as in the restaurant and you will avoid the lines.

Cassondra OBrien

Great food, great service and home town friendly.

k a y l e e

So good! I keep stuffing my face in delicious food

Stephanie Doudrick

This place has the best cinnamon rolls. Been coming here for like... 30 years.

Will Downing

Heard that this place was awesome, from my Mom; who had been there numerous times over the years. Driving back home from the north shore and took an out of the way path just to stop for my Mom. Mom asked for a booth; waitress seemed annoyed and sternly said she needed to clean a table off. We said "No problem, take your time." Was seated at said table and the table was only half wiped off. Chased another waitress down to see if we could get a quick wipe down. A different waitress came to the table and took our order. In the mean time the table next to us was seated and placed thier order. They received their food and we're half finished by the time we received ours. All fries were luke warm. I pointed this out before the waitress stepped away. She took my mom's plate and mine. Came back a few minutes later with "fresh fries" they were soggy and could still see the water from being frozen. Brought my plate up to the front counter where the manager was. Brought this up. It had now been 1hr since we sat down. Had to barter with the manager just to get a discount. Will NEVER stop there again. Suggest you don't either.

Mary Roberts

The service was terrible. We waited well over an hour for a salad and 3 sandwiches. The steak sandwich was ordered for well done and came out medium. Then we had to wait another 15 minutes and by the time it came out my granddaughter was no longer hungry. Will not be going back...EVER as this is not the first time we have had bad service there.

Anne Louise

Hadn't been past Tobie's for 16 years. They've grown a lot and added areas and products but are still good old tried &true Tobie's.

Colin Geistfeld

Cinnamon rolls are worth the trip. The rest of the breakfast food is good too and a reasonable price.

Collin Pearson

Between the fresh cast packed to the hills with delicious and amazing looking baked goods and pastries, and the excellent food and wait staff at our table there is nothing to complain about at Tobies. We walked in after a tiring day in Duluth and up to Gooseberry, and the wait staff were on point making sure we had all we needed and more. Excellent experience will definitely dine again when we are back up there.

Joe Bottensek

Decent bakery but the food us just meh

Dolly Lilly

Good food, but slow service

Lisa Campbell

We stopped by Tobies on our way to Duluth. It is a very busy place. The donuts and caramel rolls are amazing, worth stopping in for. We also ate breakfast here. The breakfast was good, the staff although busy works quickly to get the order and the food out. Happy we stopped in!

Kristy Brecht

We love the rolls but is can get so busy here. Today we slower so that was nice. We always stop on our way back down the shore home. You can get the rolls are the gas station as well and that can be a bit faster.

Jeff Haagenstad

Oh God. The cinnamon rolls... I've been stopping here and getting them for over 40 years and they are still awesome

KAREN Clarin

My husband and I were celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary and I heard Tobies was the place to stop for food while in Hinkley. I had pulled pork sandwich and chicken wild rice soup. The sandwich was nothing to rave about and the soup was tasteless and served with a very obvious dirty soup spoon. My husband ordered the Iowa pork chop dinner. He didn't get his bread, butter or applesauce as indicated on the menu, the potatoes were obviously instant and tasted like it, the pork chop was so tough it could not be eaten and tasteless. When the waitress came by I told her that my husband could not eat the pork chop and showed her the dirty spoon and told her I could speak to the manager. She comped my husband's food which was the right thing to do but was short and just walked away without apologizing or acknowledging anything. Not so Minnesota nice. We will not be going back there again.

David Hallenberger

I love stopping here on any trip to Duluth I like to get a couple donuts they are known for their caramel rolls

Mike Ames

I remember when to this place was great. Best baked goods ever. I don't know what happened. Prices skyrocketed too. I don't stop anymore.

FredH Sorensen

I have stopped at Tobies for sixty years, and my father before me. The food was good (great when they had the buffet) and the prices WERE fair. They have found their own version of inflation. Food is still good.

Tracy Meschke

We have (like most) been stopping at Tobies for breakfast on our way to the family cabin for years. The last couple of years we started noticing a change. The prices have increased and they seem to be always under staffed. The waitstaff bus tables, seat guest and wait on tables. (They have always been very pleasant when they can actually get to our table.) That’s fine for slower days but it seems to us that the manager needs to be more aware of their restaurants busy times and normal flow of customers. We may have to find a new breakfast tradition.

Larry Leske

Food good, service ok, nice bakery. With Cassidy's closed, they are busy .

Robbyn Engen

Was looking for a great place for ice cream. Bought a old fashioned malted. It was like milk. Very running and foamy. Also bought a fancy turtle sundae, using maple nut ice cream as a base. This was drowning in sauce. Might be good for some, but for us it was hard to get all the flavors. Wish I would have thought to take pictures!

Jacob Arp vlogs

We went there for my dad's birthday, mine was pretty good, but I still had onions on it when I ask for mom and my dad's burger was not what he asked for, but otherwise it was delicious.

I didn't eat at the restaurant so cannot speak to anything on that, this review is just about their baked goods. I had one of their fried cinnamon rolls and a pumpkin spice muffin. Both were absolutely delicious! The muffin was the perfect amount of fluffiness and moist, could've added some more spices, but honestly was quite delicious. And the cinnamon roll, way better than an original, just that extra crisp and flavor you get from frying it, I will be back anytime I head to Superior!

We just left there 10 minutes ago. The restaurant food was awesome, the waitress very polite and spot on. For this I would have scored a 5 stars. But then we stopped at the bakery side on the way out. The clerk at the counter was trying to “put an earring in,” yes she was! I asked for a caramel roll 3 times and she appeared not to hear and stared past me as she fumbled with the earring. I asked her if she had heard me?? At that she whisked out the cinnamon roll tray so I corrected her that I asked for a caramel roll. I apologized that I was bothering her today. She then tried to backtrack and be nice. I also know she never washed her hands after the earring scenario. I have been going there for years and years and am very turned off and very sad that it’s come to this.

Thanks for having good gluten free bakery items!!! The cinnamon roll rocks! I bought another one on our trip home! Donuts were yummy too.

Fast, friendly service. The Carmel Rolls are AMAZING. Carmel pecan rolls were delicious, but a little drier than the non-nut variety. The apple fritter was incredible, but lacked apples.

Excellent food. Very impressed with entire place. We ate in the diner part, but there is a nice restaurant in the building too. I ordered the California chicken sandwich and my chicken was juicy. The creamy wild rice soup was Excellent. We got some truffle desserts and they were great.

The cinnamon rolls are worth the stop. Make the stop and stuff your face with them. Delicious!

Nice place to stop while traveling. Very clean. Tasty food. Very nice looking tavern area. They also have an outdoor icecream parlor around the side.

Great, great, bakery best Carmel pecan rolls ever, plus so many other great choices, I will never pass by hinkley mn without stopping by there, worth the wait and time it also has fun things to shop around for, got to see to realize how much they have.

Poor quality food paired with poor quality service. Asked for just cheese kids pizza, came out with pepperoni. Coconut shimp where unpalatable to a Floridian. Pasta dishes came with unecessary extra bread. This is a great candidate for Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares I think, only their location and quality of baked goods seems to sustain them.
