Their cupcakes are heavenly! Got two salted caramel cupcakes and they were just so amazingly delicious. Staff was also very friendly. Also had dark roast coffee. Almost went to the cafe beside this but transferred here instead since the other one was too noisy it wasn't relaxing at all. Husband picked me up and finished the cupcake very quick. Will come back again and we'll try other flavors this time. Excited!

My wife is vegan and would love to try this place. Good Cakes and Bakes has been recommended to us many times and this morning we finally got there for the first time. We were very surprised by how nice it looks inside. The place is small but has a nice menu with several great sounding options. The food and drinks are delicious, and my wife really enjoyed it! Baked goods have many wheat free, soy free, and nut free options on top of being 100% vegan. The eating area is small, but colorful and cute. Excellent flavor and good portion sizes. We brought home several terrific looking desserts but wanted to get this review done before I forgot.

We love going to this bakery. We have been going since they opened. When we see reviews from people not liking them, it’s crazy to us. They use all natural and organic products from scratch. That means that everything is made fresh and daily. They do offer “day old” products but that usually means that it’s half off or BOGO. We have never paid full price for a treat and it did not taste fresh, moist and very flavorful. We order our special occasion cakes from here too. They do not make those super beautiful and fancy cakes, but they do make the best tasting cake! When you go to them go for the flavor, taste and superb customer service and not for one of those super fancy cake that taste dry or flavorless. Make sure you take time to have some of the best coffee we ever had (Chazzano) in Detroit. It’s not made hours in advance, it’s made fresh per cup French Press. They also, have WiFi and tons of seating. Bring your kids too, they have a kids area that has great toys and books to keep them occupied while you get some work done.

I stumbled on this beauty just in the area trying to do a quick meet and greet. It's a nice little quaint when's the cool spot. Very nice young ladies that were very helpful and polite. And the host of treats that they had looked phenomenal. I tried the spicy potato kale soup which was very good with a homemade corn muffin. And I bought a white cupcake with buttercream frosting which was so delicious moist and flavorful. Just going into this place you want to sample everything it looks so delicious and they have vegan options. I can't wait to go back I wish I lived closer

I usually don’t give reviews but my husband and I were really excited to go to this bakery with all of the good reviews and of course to support our local businesses. We picked up 6 cupcakes which totaled almost 17.00. The young lady that waited on us was really nice so she gets the star. The cupcakes on the other hand were horrible! The chocolate icing was so hard that it fell off the cupcake and the cupcake was so dry, hard and tasted like cornbread. I’m so disappointed. I kept trying to make excuses for the old cupcakes but there is no excuse when I spend my hard earned money and the product definitely doesn’t taste worth it.

Local bakery serving up the best treats. I’m not a huge sweets person but when I do have a craving, I check out Good Cakes & Bakes. They have their staple items but also have new desserts come online from time to time. Everything I’ve eaten has been solid. I also ordered some cupcakes for my husband’s surprise party last month and everyone loved them—the regular and vegan ones. Definitely check this place out whenever you have a sweet tooth and want quality ingredients.

Customer service gets the star. However, management needs a refresher course on how to order supplies and maintain business while on vacation. Checking your stock BEFORE you go out of town so your employees can effectively run your business in your absence is a great start. Either that or lose more tentative customers due to lack of consistency in customer satisfaction. And an improvement on how to treat your employees would be a substantial improvement as well.

Patti LaBelle who!!? Hands down the best banana pudding I EVER HAD RIGHT HERE! I knew they were recently on the Today show where someone said they have the best cake they've ever tasted. True! The lemon cake is divine! & the vegan carrot cake!! My family didn't even know it was vegan! They loved it. The quality of ingredients is top-notch, organic, vegan options, the owners and staff- I love them! They are just so friendly and helpful. There is a little kids' area in the back. It's colorful, clean, and they have books and games! They have construction outside (until Sept 2019, they think) so unfortunately business has gone down for them because of it. So let's lift them up! Support this local gem. Everything is delicious! Stop in, you'll be glad you did! P.S. you can order a whole cake with a day or two's notice- you can order up that lemon cake without ever having tasted it, for whatever special event you have. Soo good!

This bakery came highly recommended after asking around for a bakery to do a personalized cake. I came to April with a very specific design for my friend’s birthday. I only wanted a small cake To feed about 4 people. I was told, since my design was so intricate and specific, I had to go up one size in cakes. That was fine because I wanted the design. We drafted and agreed upon a design and color. I was charged a design fee and of course had to spend More money since I had to have a larger cake. The day I went to pick up the cake, the cake was nothing that we agreed upon. I believe firmly that it’s all about the recovery. April was very defensive and argumentative, as if I personally offended her about her work. I was not offered a remake, a refund for my design fee or the difference in the amount of the cake siZes. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will avoid this place at all costs and encourage those I know to do the same.

This was a time sensitive request and the owner did not have any decency to return my messages to let me know she could not fulfill the order. From the first time I tried the baked goods in this bakery, I was hooked. That was over a year ago. You can just tell the baker, April, loves what she does. On top of that, she uses organic products. So amazing and this was so needed in Detroit. The atmosphere in the establishment makes you just want to come back, over and over again. Bravo!!! Update: Since I can't leave more than one review... I have to mention that the carrot cake cupcakes are SO SO SO SO SO GOOD!!! My favorites are Red Velvet and Carrot Cake, hands down! My other favorite is the Sweet Potato Cake. The caramel apple cheesecake is THE BIZ!!! I just LOVE this place!

My bank did reach out to you as did I after the birthday party, I never heard from you and I no longer cared to deal with the unprofessionalism; I would've never accepted anything you had to offer but my money back because I believe you to be a spiteful business owner. Regardless! You should've left the response as is. You didn't bake the cake? That's really funny. What a liar, it's a shame and you are so unprofessional it's disgusting. You did in fact bake the cake, along with a red velvet cake, and a smash cake. The cake didn't have any tier foundations, the smash cake was not the flavor we discussed and what was listed on the order form, you took the smaller cakes out of the fridge and that cake was fresh out of the oven (you told me the night before you weren't going to be working on it until the morning of the party remember? (I have the e-mail) It's not my job to delegate how you perform your baker duties), people shouldn't decorate cakes warm but they do and that's exactly what YOU did! The box wasn't even big enough for the cake as shown in the picture so why give people advice on how to transport it when it isn't even secured appropriately to leave your bakery? Please don't respond with your nonsensical comments again because if it will please you and your unprofessional staff I will post pictures of the receipt, the other cakes, and the e-mails that you took forever to respond to or didn't respond to at all (sounds right up your alley). You took advantage of a mother (that was willing to be a long term customer) trying to make her child's birthday amazing for your own selfish gain. We ordered a cake for our baby's birthday & upon pickup the cake was still warm & fell apart on the way to the party (picked up by a friend, I would've never left the bakery with it). It also did not look the way we discussed nor were the tiers the flavors we discussed. The owner is unprofessional & I should've decided to go with another bakery but I was in a pinch by the time she responded with misspelled words & false customer appreciation. Her workers quoted me a different price than she did & I think she was upset that she'd be losing money preparing the cake I ordered but that's not the customers fault. I've NEVER had such a bad experience with a business before. I tell everyone that I come in contact with about her customer service & lack of respect. They were cakes for a baby & sure weren't free! She didn't care! It's okay to get a quick snack although I will never do that but I'd suggest going somewhere else for a big purchase. I almost forgot to say that the frosting melts even when the cake is cool and some of the flavors are dry.

Wow! I just went for the first time after I found out about this place from a Google search. I was looking for a place to get a vegan cake because I am sick of having cupcakes at my events instead of a taditional cake. When I went in, first of all, what a cute and funky atmosphere. It's got a lot of seating and a lot of character. The woman working at the counter was so friendly and showed me all of the vegan options for the day - cookies, brownies and cupcakes. I was really impressed that there was more than 1 choice for vegan stuff because that's not typical of other bakeries I go to. Of course, I had to try everything. The oatmeal raisin cookie was delicious and nice and soft. I am typically not a huge fan of brownies, but I really enjoyed the one I got. Finally, the red velvet cupcake was super yummy. The cake portion was just a little drier around the upper outer edge, but I've found this is somewhat to be expected I believe with the vegan cupcake because I don't think they sell as fast and maybe sit there longer (this is just my guess as I've had this problem with other bakeries too). The rest of the cake part was wonderfully moist and dense. The frosting, however, was just incredible. If they could figure out a way to keep the whole cake a little moister I think it would be the perfect cupcake. I will definitely be back and have already recommended them to some fellow cake lovers.

I enjoy visiting Good Cakes and Bakes for lunch or a cup of tea with sweets. The atmosphere is pleasing for both young and old group parties. My family hosted my mother’s 80th birthday party and we had a ball. The staff are always helpful in selecting party treats. I have used their catering services also for a community event and everyone enjoyed the special cupcakes. My favorite treat at the shop is the Sweet Potatoe cake, I recommend you try it, but please leave me a slice!

This is the cake that R S is referring to before we tried to fix it for her baby's first birthday party. The cake was warm however we we're in a time crunch, if it were not for that, I would not have the bakery with the cake. I believe it was the owner that brought the cake to the car and suggested that it be put in the trunk.

I wanted to like this place. I really did... On Friday, 10/26 I bought 4 cupcakes. 2 banana, for my husband and a double chocolate and chocolate peanut butter for myself. My husband really enjoyed the banana cupcakes, so I thoroughly expected to enjoy the others as well. I didn't. The double chocolate was dry and flavorless, like a dehydrated brown sponge. Even the frosting was bland. I had my husband try it, too because I was confused as to where the flavor went. He said it was bland, too. I was shocked. I didn't even know it was possible to make flavorless chocolate! The second cupcake was equally dry. However, the peanut butter frosting was pretty darned good, and I generally don't enjoy frosting. Ultimately, I got to satisfy about 1/4 of my sweet tooth. So, definately not worth the $11.00 I spent. I probably won't be back since flavorless chocolate is kinda scary.

The cakes and bakes are delicious, especially the lemon blueberry loaf. The shop atmosphere is warm and friendly. I've attended meetings there and am sure will be there again. I'd love to see the size of the cupcakes a little larger to fill the cupcake holders, though. :)

Really cute place!! Cupcakes are a bit small for $2.75, I really wish they were a bit bigger. I have to give 5 stars because it's a black owned business and a business ran by a women. I really wanted to order more cupcakes, but they didnt have any flavors I really wanted. No cookies and cream!! I asked why??? And she said it's too much work and that flavor was retired for the season and replaced with a cinnamon cupcake. I really wanted to try the zuppa toscana soup, but they only had black eye pea soup with greens. I thought okay that should be good, but I tried a sample and wasnt that pleased with the flavor. I think it's a really cute place, the 2 cupcakes I order were good (just small). I will try this place again with my neices and nephews.

Poor customer service. On Friday September 29, I placed a delivery order to be sent to my parents house on Saturday for my mother's birthday because I live out-of-state. The delivery time comes and goes on Saturday and so I contact the bakery. A woman (presumably the owner) apologized and said the order was cancelled through PayPal at 3 am that day and I should have gotten an email with that notification (I did not). She continues and says she will remake the order deliver it herself on Sunday and provide a refund. Nothing arrives on Sunday. After calling again, she verified it was delivered but, this time, it was to the wrong address, despite verifying beforehand that they had the correct address to my parents house. She again promised another delivery and another refund, both of which were unfulfilled. Today, I finally received a refund. but only after calling and complaining to Paypal and contacting my bank. The repeated unfulfilled promises, poor response time and poor customer service have killed my appetite for any of this establishment's baked good.

I went here in July for my birthday because there's not a lot of places that sell vegan treats. I remember the carrot cake being so amazing. But when I went there today I picked up two carrot cakes and when I got home from a 30min drive the cakes were hard and had no moisture. I think it was a little bit of an over cooked batch. I'm super disappointed and afraid to go back and drive out of my way not knowing how the batch will be made because it tasted almost polar opposite to the first time I tried they're products. I also tried the brownie and it was okay but a little gritty

This place is amazing, and I mean that wholeheartedly. You can find surfsce parking on Livernois free after six, and it's a great area and location. I drove to Detroit from East Lansing to pick up a vegan coffee cake for me and my girlfriend, and WOW is all I've gotta say about that. The people working the counter were extremely respectful and patient, and my order was ready right when I intended to pick it up (still hot too :) ). I'm happy and inspired to have had the opportunity to go to a fantastic black-owned and operated bakery, a busy centerpiece of the local community. If you're vegan or non-vegan, definitely check it out! Also read up about the owners and history... what a great story.

This is my go to chill and sweet spot. It's family and community friendly and the baked goods are of the highest quality. April's baked goods make you feel like a warm hug from grandma.
