Several years ago, my soon-to-be wife and I went to Sion's Bakery for a cake tasting, because we were having a kosher-meat wedding. The quality was atrocious, so spectacularly bad that my cake-loving, recently-converted wife (who cared very little about whether the cake had dairy in it), literally cried for the next hour as I drove her down to Kemp Mill (to The Kosher Pastry Oven - which makes very good parve pastries), because she was convinced that she would be giving her guests, 90% of whom do not keep kosher, sub-sub-sub-standard cake to satisfy a few outliers. The strawberry short cake was tolerable, and it was the best of the bunch by a wide margin, but also saccharine sweet and only decent by comparison.
