REVIEWS OF Bonaparte Breads - RUSTIQ Bakery & Cafe' IN Maryland

I used to love this place, but it's gone down hill. Pastries are overpriced and taste terrible- somehow both soggy and tough. The ham and cheese croissant is greasy and over cooked, almond one is soggy, they are all just terrible now. Very sad for something that used to be a favorite.

Cy Bachrach

Ordered an iced latte. There was clearly no foamed milk. I will say people seemed to be enjoying the baked goods.

Carrie Owens

I found them at the Falls Church Farmers market and fell in love with their food. So far my favorite is tomato basil quiche. Yum!

Monica Sattler

No ice for tea, tea was awful, desserts were not fresh...just watched them handle the pastry with their hands. Tried to get them to take care of the tea and they just looked at me.

James

Great service, super friendly staff, but the coffee list had completely wrong terminology and tasted absolutely horrid

Tom Brown

The woman behind the counter was rude to everyone, they didn't honor a Savage Mills coupon with their store listed, the bread was mediocre, and the meringues were so undercooked they were a tough chewy mess.

Daniel Porter

Excellent pastries pairs well with simple coffee.

Steven Toth

Great French breads and pastries. Make no mistake, this is a good bakery. Small lunch menu but enough variation to keep you moving. Every lunch is made fresh to order. I've eaten here a number of times and never been disappointed. Try the warm Nelson sandwich.

Not inconvenient but a bit out of the way in the Savage Mill (off Route 1 near Route 32), and not the most diverse menu for someone in search of a complicated meal, however, they offer a cozy ambience, sufficient variety and all is tasty: what they do offer is done well and tastefully. The selection of breads and their qualities alone make this worth the stop. The pastries are fresh, and are among the best to be found in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Their Mille-feuille (Napoleon) is among the better ones I've found in the US. Vive la différence!

Casey Walton

Delicious food. Cozy atmosphere with a French feel. Special: $17 for Coffee or Cold drink, Quiche or Sandwich, Salad or Chips, and choice of Pastry. Makes for a lovely morning.

Julianne Woo

It's a small bake shop but they have delicious goods. They offer both sweet and savory items as well as loaves of bread.

Michael Dickson

Nice place for bread and pastries.

Dolly

Pastries were really good, in a quaint little area too. Perfect place to relax for a bit and have a sip paired with pastry.

Carroll Ganier

Love the food. Friendly staff

This place is right down the street from my house and I have been excited to try it. So today I had a day off and decided to go get a coffee and pastry for breakfast. When I arrived at 9:00 am, thinking it must be open by then, I found a locked door with no hours listed. I looked them up and saw they don't open until 10am. What bakery doesn't open early??? Hellooooo!!! You sell coffee and pastries. Good luck staying in business like that.

Wonderful atmosphere and quiche. Poor hours. Not much variety in menu. Items often not available.

Service was friendly and helpful. I got the quiche Lorraine and was not too impressed. But I got a lemon tart for later, and it was delicious! My wife got the strawberry eclair, and the only place they put strawberries in it was at the open side so they were visible, but half the eclair didn't have any strawberries. Very disappointing.

TheMobileGamer

Not bad place but bonapart breads is so good with fresh baked bread and desserts

Cathy Korecki

I love this place! The pastry's are wonderful and we now get a loaf of bread once a week. Everyone is incredibly friendly. It's also in a nice location.

A nice French style cafe; good coffee and pastries; loaves of French bread. Inside and outside seating. Takes cards.

I was a loyal customer of Bonaparte but have been consistently disappointed since the new ownership. Since it has become “rustiq”, the quality of the product has gone significantly down. Most recently I got a sandwich there for lunch. Not only did the sandwich have almost nothing on it, but the cheese was clearly old and my bread was moldy. When I asked to speak to the owner and brought back the sandwich, she was unapologetic and only offered to get me a new sandwich. Call me crazy- but I have zero interest in a second mediocre mold ridden sandwich. She didn’t offer me my money back or even give me another option when I told her I didn’t want a replacement sandwich. An epic disappointment and a serious downgrade from the original Bonaparte. I will not be going back to support this business.

The bread and pastry tastes exactly as it would in France. Their hot chocolate used to taste that ways as well but either they changed their recipe or it changes depending on who is making it

My wife & I had lunch here, pastries were just so good that we packed dinner to go. We had to come back and cater from them as well for a some tasty treats for thanksgiving. We don't come by Savage that much, but now we have to just to try everything on their menu.

We ordered croissants and elephant ears. They were delicious. Tried the chocolate and almond croissants. They were so good we got 4 to go and 2 loaves of bread. Only bad part is we live in another state!! Staff is so friendly. We will be back next time we are in this neck of the woods.

Love this hidden gem! It has a mixture of a small town bakery with a touch of France. The bread here is amazing and very well priced. It's my go to for fresh well made breads and pastries. They also have good coffee and few savory items like sandwiches and quiche. Over all really amazing little place, that is tucked away in historic savage mill.

Andrew G

Pastries are always tasty, can't go wrong trying any of them. Highly recommended.

Kathleen Warnock

Pleasant, atmospheric cafe offering a variety of light fare and baked goods. Outdoor seating if the weather is good.

Pastries were good baked lemon and rosemary bread was great

For $20, I expect more than a dry eclair cut in half and filled with chocolate pudding and a disappointingly flavorless apple cake thing. The only gem in this assortment was a mediocre lemon tart my wife selected. The lackluster customer service suggests that even the hostess knew her wares were lacking.

The food is ok, but the service is very bad. Our buzzer rang for our order, but it was only half ready. 20 minutes later and we’re still waiting on the second half. We haven’t even got the pastries we ordered that are just in the display case. Now 30 minutes... Edit: I’m changing this from a 1 star to 3. They forgot to put my quiche in so it took a very long time, but they gave me a free raspberry tart.

Amanda Donaldson

I enjoy stopping in here when I have a day off. Cozy warm drinks and delicious pastries. My only issue is that if I go in shortly after the lunch rush, the staff seems a bit behind in cleaning up. They might be a bit understaffed.

ROSIE KAVRAS

Great breads and pastries.

Kyle Stein

Best french pastries in Howard County hands down.

Dona Oldfield

The food here is the best anywhere in the area! Their menu is limited, but everything is top quality. The quiches are the best this side of the Atlantic: so creamy and custardy. Definitely save room for dessert - terrific croissants and pastries. Great takeout pastries for dinner parties or celebrations. Terrific breads. Don't miss this hidden jewel!

This morning I asked if the bread is fresh, and baked today. The girl behind the counter asked another woman, apparently the manager, who answered: yes, it's today's baking. The bread was already in plastic bag, so I touched it and... it was soft like a cotton - definitely kept in that bag for at least another day. So I requested fresh loafs from the back storage and... yes, huge difference. After that, the manager acted like a business as usual, no apology of any kind. It happened before, but I've realized it after I left the place. It looks like LYING TO CUSTOMER is their selling method, rather than an isolated incident. Beware of their products, and expect to be lied how fresh they are. I can easily check the bread, but not sure how can you do it with cake. So I have no intention to go for desert at this place.

Quiche is good as are the croissants. Unfortunately part of the French vibe that they are going for includes a dirty restaurant. When was the last time that you took the table cloths off of the tables and actually washed them??? The stains have stains. If the part of the place that customers see is that dirty, what does the cooking area look like???

Susan

Fabulous French Bakery -- nice bread, which they sliced for us!

Amazing food and coffee. They don't just make bread, they make art!

This is as French as it gets. A small bakery and patisserie nestled in the basement of the old Savage Mill. The breads are made with same coarse flour as in Europe. The pastries are the best I’ve had on this side of the Atlantic. Try the quiche Loraine for lunch followed by a Napoleon and don’t forget the espresso. And that is enough for the day...

Debbie Bumnray

No surprise the bread and pastries are best earlier in the day. Not the absolute best, but probably the best in the Laurel area. Combine that with the atmosphere of Savage Mill, and it's an easy 5 stars.

Theresa Kim

The food is just OK, but their service is terrible. The guy at the counter doesn't know what he's doing much of the time. The sandwiches come with a choice of cheese, and when I asked him what my choices were, he said that they had only one cheese, so I asked what kind, and he said he didn't know. It takes forever even just for a sandwich so I wonder if they are killing the pig, turkey, and cow in the back or something.

The chocolate almond croissant was too bread-y and not light and flake-y. That was the only thing we bought, at the recommendation of a friend. The space was aiming for cozy that crossed into "stuffy" with similarly boring decor. The walls are yellowish brown with olive green moulding. The chairs are all heavy wood with leather. The lighting is warm and dark except for the unharmonious fluorescent lights coming from the drink holders. The kitchen is somewhat open, but not in a purposeful way. The cacophonous sounds of the bread-cutter prevents any purposeful conversation.

Don't get the Napoleon, it was stale, tasteless, and over priced. Someone else got the chocolate something cake and said it too was terrible tasting.

Fabulous French bakery! We stopped in for lunch and was treated like family! Siju took care of us and took care of all our needs. She has a wonderful personality and we look forward to seeing her again and enjoying great food soon!

A nice little French cafe in the Savage Mill shopping mall. Great place for a sandwich or a pastry with some coffee! It is on the end of the mall, not very near most of the shops, but that just makes it a quieter place which is nice.

John Korecki

Good local place for quick food and delicious pastries and bread. Nicely outdoor seating in a small cozy courtyard.
