Sadly I have to say that I was extremely disappointed with the quality that I got from Martine's. Always heard great things and saw good reviews but just look at my photo that I uploaded and you tell me if this cake is worth $160? The front of the cake looks okay and was how we were expecting our "Swirls" to look on the entire cake. Just like the bottom left of the photo. However on the sides and back of the cake it looks like they were lazy. I mean it looks like some IUDs on our Wedding Cake! All of our guests agreed that they are surprised at how bad it was. Not sure what happened with the frosting either, when we did our cake testing it was delicious, however me and my spouse both thought it tasted like we were eating a stick of butter. Only give 2 stars because the cake was at least flavorful on the inside and got it done in time, but considering it was the day before the wedding, we couldn't fix any issues.

I cannot say enough about how special this place is to me personally. I came to know about this place through a former student of mine who had a cake from Martine's several years ago. I always remembered the cake(because it was so special!) and finally I had my very own special occasion for a very special friend who turned 70 to throw a surprise birthday party for her. I went to Martine's with such a short notice. I knew I couldn't have a cake completely customized, but the owner lady sat down with me and agreed to make a special cake(with what was readily available) for my dear friend. It was 2 tier cake decorated with sugar roses and baby breath and many more flowers. My friends couldn't believe that they were fake! The cake was tasty and texture was exactly what I would have liked to have. We also had brunch while picking up the cake and the chef generously offered a complimentary small cup of tomato soup for my sweet husband who ordered their kale grilled cheese sandwich. I ordered a waffle BLT which tasted delicious and not heavy at all. We loved their new place(apparently they moved to this location recently) and atmosphere. We would love to return.

Martine’s is in a beautifully restored building downtown. The lunch is incredible, especially the pesto grilled cheese with tomato soup. There are tons of pastry options and it is hard to choose just one. If you haven’t tried the pistachio cake, it is a must!

We had our wedding cake made by Martine's Pastries. It was a simple cake just for us to cut, but it turned out so well and the cake was delicious (we ended up going with pistachio because it was so good). Not only did they make us a great cake, but they were also so accommodating in having a gluten free dessert option available to give to my Mom. They were great to work with, and we love their new location too!

Excellent pastries. Savory food a bit too rich, but with a little tweaking could be very good. Had the grilled cheese pesto and the bread was overly buttered. The cheddar, brie, and pesto are all also rich and heavy. Lighter on the butter and adding perhaps some tomato would be an improvement. All in all, would definitely return especially for the sweets and would try a salad for lunch next time. Glad to see this establishment in this part of town.

Martine made our cake years ago and we felt so blessed to have her create such a large memory from our wedding. Martine is professional, punctual and an incredible artist. My bride changed our entire cake order during the planning and Martine happily obligued, making a replica of my mother and father in laws wedding cake. Martine nailed it and my bride said it was MORE beautiful than she even hoped/imagined. That sums up our experience with Martine. Above and beyond our best expectation. Thank you Martine. We are going on 13 years and 7 kids and still love showing them the pictures from that day and my 8yo daughter loves the cake! Thank you!

I was told that Martines bakery was able to do cake with fondant, but later they said they couldn't do it. They didn't deliver what they promised they would. I was little disappointed.

Gotta have the rectangular donut! I recently moved to Lexington and had been searching for a donut like the one made by Martine's: light, crispy outside with soft airy, flavorful but not too sweet inside. My mouth came alive when I ate this donut. I regret only getting one, but I plan to go back for more. I also got a croissant, lemon cake and a cookie, which were all good, but the donut alone is worthy of 5 stars.

Beautiful place..great location..loved the atmosphere. I didn't have any food on this trip, but I have had Martine's goodies many times. Her creations are wonderfully yummy..you must try! I did have coffee, which was excellent! Martine and Jim are great hosts, with an awesome, friendly and attentive team of folks to make you feel at home. Looking forward to my next visit!

My brother got his wedding cake here. The owners were really helpful in coming up with design ideas that worked with their non-traditional nature themed wedding. It was ready on time and looked so good!!! They did a birch tree bark that looked like it was just taken off a tree. Staff was all very friendly and they took extra time to make sure the cake was secure for an hour drive to the location on my lap. They messed up the base of the cake which is why four stars. It was supposed to be on a wooden board but the order got confused. Martine said a new person took down the order. They were willing to go far to help us as much as possible from an hour away. They were extremely apologetic when we returned the incorrect base and gave us a full refund for the rental fee. Overall, a great experience. Would definitely recommend for specialty cakes

Martine and Jim are such exceptional people, I'm so proud to be a friend of theirs! Their shop is amazing, and the cakes, pastries are amazing! They also have a unique space upstairs, for small gatherings. I believe they said rehearsal dinners, birthday parties etc. I joined Erika House there for a yoga class. Monday morning at 8:45am, she is also a gem - yoga teacher, French teacher and a beautiful soul! So go on, head over to Martine's, grab some lunch. Check it out, you can't go wrong.

The wedding cake was both delicious and beautiful! It looked fabulous sitting on the silver cake stand when we walked into the reception pavilion at the Marriott! Looked just like the bride had dreamed! Coloring - soft-ish orange and yellow - was just right! So pretty! Now to the taste. IT WAS DELICIOUS! Both the chocolate layer and the pistachio layer were great! And the frosting was divine! Cake itself had just the right amount of moisture. Together, they were melt in your mouth! We got many, many compliments of, "Best wedding cake I've ever had!" NO leftovers! :-( As for the service, Martine is the most special French woman with Southern hospitality you will ever meet. Beautiful friendly smile! She herself is so personable and easy to work with. Her talented staff have been well chosen and trained - they are so, so nice too! Thanks Martine's Pastries for being such a big part Chase and Katie's (and our) wonderful day!

Got the tiramisu and all you could taste was the outrageously thick layer of cocoa powder on the top. Also got a creme brulee which is one of my favorite desserts, boy was we disappointed with that hot mess. I think they forgot the sugar. It was bland and tart which in all my years of getting this dessert this was just horrible. Love when a business goes into a poor area of town and revitalize it which they have with a nice clean business but doubt they will stay long unless they learn to cook.

I buy Martines desserts at Good Foods Market. We usually buy dessert on Saturday evenings as a treat. We love the chocolate cream pie, tiramisu, peanut butter brownie pie, strawberry shortcake, peach crumble pie, and apple cake. They are incredibly good!

Martine's baking already has a well-established reputation for excellence and her "new" cafe experience does not disappoint. We visited for a Saturday brunch, sampled the Croque Monsieur and a savory breakfast plate with mimosas and and stayed long enough to get coffee and tiramisu. Everything was outstanding, from the service to the quality of the food.
