The portions are small. I ordered the cheese fries and while they were good I didn't get a ton. I had to order a chicken sandwich too just to get enough to eat. All told 22 dollars. Their menu is small. What's really disappointing is they have this turkey Reuben. No. Just no. Reubens are supposed to have corned beef or pastrami. Probably won't be back. I can get a much better value at Chipotle.

McLain's did my bridal shower cake/cupcakes, and our wedding cake. They did a fantastic job on the decoration portion, and the taste of it all was phenomenal. I also surprised my husband with a steak grooms cake, and he loved it! We were extremely happy with how everything turned out, and would highly recommend!

My family visited McClain's over Thanksgiving break, so I'm sure we missed the rush of students, but we loved it. I was blown away as soon as we walked into McClain's by the trendy decor and presentation. Not only does this establishment look great but they really cater to the customers. You'll order your eats and drinks at the pastry counter and then find a fun nook to settle and enjoy! We had a huge order, one sandwich wasn't made right, and they delivered a huge tray of pastries as an apology. The breakfast sandwiches are excellent, the cinnamon rolls are awesome, mimosas were good and the coffee is some of the best I've had in town. Be sure to mention if it is your 1st time and you'll get a welcome cookie!

The atmosphere is really nice, the music isn't too loud, there are lots of large plants, the tables are huge on the second floor, and the furniture is comfortable. The food, on the other hand, is really underwhelming. They have very few allergy friendly options (hello, salads) and it's really expensive for what you're getting. I spent 9 dollars on a salad that was made of 90% spinach, 8% dried apricots, and 2% sliced almonds. I'd come back to have a mediocre coffee and study, but not to dine.

There are spiders all over the kitchen and the building. There wad a hair in my food and they showed no remorse. I feel sorry for anyone that works there because I can only imagine how they get treated. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Enter at your own risk.

Been here a few times. The baristas are rather slow, and my coffee order isn't always right. The environment and location are superb. The food is a little pricey for the amount.

They tow cars of customers parked in their designated spots at SAE’s lot. They claim the spots are for employees only when it NEVER explicitly states that on the signs. The signs say “Reserved. Mcclains Market” so customers obviously think they can park there. I know a ton of different people who have gotten towed and it’s ridiculous. They clearly don’t care about their customers.

I love McLains and go there a few times a week at least since I live closeby. The food is good, and it’s a great place to study and get work done. My only frustration is the unpredictable hours, and neither the website nor Google have accurate current hours listed. I understand that they are trying to figure out hours given the fluctuation in business when students are in and out of town. But their hours fluctuate wayyy too much, and if things are somewhat slow or the roads are a bit icy, they will decide to close Early and ask everyone to leave. Google says they should be open until 9 on Saturday, and their website says 10. Yet even with a restaurant full of people after the KU game tonight, they closed at 6. That may be what the door says (I’m not sure?), but I wish they’d update their website bc that’s what I checked before going there today. My advice is that if it is over a break for KU or the weather is even remotely bad, call ahead to make sure it’s open. Since I live close by, I see many people park and walk to the front door, only to make the sad walk back to their cars :(

Worst Teriyaki Chicken I’ve ever tasted (stopped right from there) in my entire life. Completely nightmare. Served with “mashed” rice with boiled sliced chicken with SYRUP on the top. A total waste of 8.25 dollars.

McLain’s food, coffee and treats are all excellent. The atmosphere created by the helpful staff is unprecedented of any other similar establishment in Lawrence. It is in a great location and the interior design is incredible. It looks nothing like the dusty, out dated bookstore that once took up the building.

The aesthetic of the market is so impressive given what it was before. The coffee is good and the select few items I've had from the menu were also tasty. A few important things to note about visiting McLain's: 1. If you aren't familiar with campus or this particular area be advised that there is not a lot of designated parking. There are handicap accessible spots, but mostly be prepared to park on a nearby street. 2. The interior set up can make be difficult if you order food AND drinks. Not because the lay out is bad, but because you pick food up at one counter and drinks at another and it's sometimes hard to hear your name being called on a busy day. 3. They make beautiful pastries including wedding cakes. Get in there and check them out sometime.

I moved to Lawrence a year ago, and this is my number one visited place in town. Located in the heart of KU’s campus, McLain’s offers a little bit of everything to satisfy your food/drink needs. They have excellent breakfast (The Farm sandwich is a MUST), and high quality lunch/dinner eats (chicken tenders or Grilled Cheese are my go-to’s). They also have a full coffee bar, bakery items, alcoholic beverages etc. Service here is always friendly, and prompt in any needs you have. This is a great place to hang with friends, get some work done, or just chill after a long day of work!

I was very disappointed with my service this morning. I come to McClains often as I work right down the street from them. I usually get the granola parfait, since they don't mix the granola in already and allows me to it since I am gluten free. I saw the sign up that they usually have and didn't see any. In the past when this has happened it has been offered for one to be made. When I asked this morning if one could made Alexa informed me that they don't sell the parfaits anymore. I doubled check the sign that was clipped by the shelf and went and removed stating "you might want to take this down if you are not selling them anymore" the person I was with pointed to the sign I put down and said since you are not selling them anymore. Her story then changed as to saying they were out. It has been offered in the past for one to be made which I am very happy to wait for and have done so in the past. I will recommend that if you are out of something and it is not on the shelf don't keep a sign up, or if you keep it up allow for the product to be made.

The atmosphere is pretty nice and the food isn’t bad by any means but, it’s a little pricey for what you get. The best thing here is the coffee and it’s right on campus so that’s a definite plus. You can also buy beer and other alcohol here so can’t complain there. Only real downside is the price and I’m a broke college student so maybe it’s not that bad.

It's a nice place, warm atmosphere, and the food is okay. It's conveniently near KU campus buildings so it's a great place to grab a quick lunch before you head off to class or something. This place accepts KU Beak 'em bucks.
