McClain's did an incredible job with the cakes for our daughter's first birthday! We don't live in KC but wanted to make sure we could celebrate her birthday with the whole family so we decided to celebrate on Thanksgiving. They didn't think twice when I asked for a Hawaiian theme cake and smash cake. Aside from the cakes looking exactly like what I asked for, they were incredibly delicious! Everything was perfect and McClain's will continue to be my cake "go to".... Oh and they have the best chicken salad sandwich EVER!

Truly love this place! For breakfast, for sweets, for custom cakes. The service is always awesome. Recently I bought a cake for my sister and was trying to pay over the phone. This is such a nice little bakery. The atmosphere was wonderful with a friendly up beat crowd. All the people in there we're comfortable and relaxed. They have baked goods as well as other food that you can order. I even heard one person ordering a custom cake to pick up later for what I think was a birthday party. We got some cookies and cupcakes to go.

They've given the whole atmosphere a face-lift from the appearance to their friendly and helpful staff to the changes in menu. Really wonderful space, courteous staff and delicious offerings. My ham and cheese croissant was crispy on the outside, warm and savory on the inside with just a hint of heat and my capuccino was pretty and perfectly made. The vanilla 6" layer cake was exactly what I wanted for my birthday.

I discovered this place a few years ago and I love it. Their danishes are delicious and I love getting them early on the weekends. Weekends are usually their busy time but after your first visit you’ll understand why; the staff is lovely and polite, the food is delicious, and I am a fan of their outside seating. It is a local KC spot, for sure, but a gem none the less.

Bought a $32 white cake from the bakery. Told them it was my dad's birthday and he loves wedding cake. First- the cake did not have enough almond flavoring in it. Barely could taste the cake part. The frosting tasted like lard. Seriously- the sugar mix was horrible. Very disappointed that my dad's 82nd birthday was a bust with the cake. He was excited too. Not what I ever expected, considering I have purchased cakes in the past from McLain's and was happy. Don't buy your wedding cake here!

They took down their famous chorizo burritos so I had to make them on my own. However, they did serve good coffee with Thou Mayest. Not sure if that changed. Most go for the baked goods and cakes. We had McClain's baked our gender revealing cake and they clearly did a poor job. You can barely see the color in the middle which was not super noticeable. Maybe, the next cake might improve? I had a bad cake experience.

I install kitchen equipment and I just installed a proofer at McLains and I have done this for ten years so I want to tell you, when the crew goes home and they clean the back of the house, THEY CLEAN THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. Came here on a friend's request. It was all amazing. They gave us a free burrito which was a very good mix of texture, spice and flavor in general. Cinnamon roll wasn't next level but it was delicious. This is the only place I have ever seen a pineapple danish and it was delicious. Staff was warm and friendly. I will definitely go back if I'm ever in the area.

This was the worst service I have every receive. DO NOT order from them thur doordash. I ended up paying 25.00 for this breakfast and did not receive my whole order. They told me in would have to pay a 1.50 for extra gravy. That ended up costing me 5 more dollars. Thanks doordash your rep riped me off. Also the biscuits were the size of the small biscuits you make at home. And then they were so hard (smothered n the extra gravy) That I could not even bit into them so I just ate the center.. I am now late for work still hungry and they did not give me the rest of my order. Thanks Mclains and dordash for starting my day off well! Feels good to waste 25 bucks n still be hungry!!

Wow! McLain's was amazing to work with in order to create the cake design we wanted for our wedding! My mom and I met with Megan at our tasting/design meeting and she was fabulous to work with. She helped us figure out what was best for the amount of people we were expecting at our wedding. She was confident in the design I wanted and made us feel at ease with her experience and kindness (we also planned for cookies and she helped us determine the best amount to get for those). Not only did we talk about the plans for the cake, but Megan took the time to chat with us and get to know us personally! The cake was absolutely beautiful, it tasted amazing, and we received MANY compliments on it. We're very glad we made the choice for McLain's to make our wedding cake and we're also looking forward to our one year anniversary cake! Thanks, Megan and McLain's Bakery!

I loved McLain's when it was on wornall. I would go for almost every holiday with my mother or grandmother to get some pastries for a dinner or breakfast. When they moved I was really worried but man, what a awesome decision. The old place was small and really just for picking up orders. This place is huge, modern, and actually serves food beyond pastries. I just ordered a pepper jack burrito. Looking forward to it. Oh and it's packed, but I got through the line really quickly. Both are good signs at 10:30 am on a beautiful Saturday morning.

One star, because they have REALLY really bad pastries and my honey lavender latte tasted rancid. Took a couple bites of cookie, almond “croissant”, and morning bun before throwing away. Low quality, cheap ingredients and lack of technique are to blame. The croissant was pathetic and had the texture of a bun; real butter is not used. Just yuck. Atmosphere is also unorganized; no place to wait for coffee; staff pushing you out of their way. ONE barista making the coffee for the whole place! Just has a bad feel. I’m new to the area, so I’m confused why some KCers would ever return to this place. Even staff looks embarrassed by what they put out.

If you're looking for a good sweet-bread treat and cup of coffee, or you need to cater baked goods or a cake for a special occasion, McLain's is the spot. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is relaxing: a great place to get some work done or spend time with friends over cookies. There's a real dedication to being a local business, as evidenced by the KC Royals sugar cookies they made for the World Series. I'm partial to the danishes (raspberry especially) and their chocolate croissants are incredible. They also have a wide variety of coffee cakes, cookies, and breads. They serve Thou Mayest coffee and espresso, so on top of having great baked goods they offer the best coffee in Kansas City! One of (if not the) best bakeries in Kansas City!

McLain's has pretty good food; at least the pastries are good. I haven't actually ordered from their lunch menu, but it looks good. I gave them 3 stars because they don't use sustainable practices. Everything comes on paper. Another problem is that their Internet is SLOW. I don't want to end on a sour note, so let me just restate the fact that they serve good food. Also, the atmosphere is nice - trendy and kind of hipster.

This is definitely a hidden gem of Waldo and a must see/eat. I strongly recommend getting there before 10am if you plan to go on a Sunday and eat in the restaurant! It crowds very quickly, and it’s easy to see why! The portions and quality of the food is amazing for the price you pay. The restaurant part is first come first serve for seating and is very quaint. I’m quite pleased with everything I had (cheese danish and biscuits & gravy dish). I’ll certainly be going back.

We had the greatest experience here this weekend. We walked in with a group of 16 people and the staff welcomed and accommodated us without hesitation. McLain's Bakery has some of the best pastries in the area, in my opinion. They also offer fantastic breakfast and coffee options. The atmosphere is cozy, but there is still room for groups and families with young children without it feeling cramped. People often bring their dogs and enjoy the outdoor seating. I've occasionally purchased their boxes of day-old pastries at a discount to bring to work and share with my co-workers, who thoroughly enjoy the treats.

I hate that I can't give a 5 star review but the service I received this was unacceptable. I left there almost regretting driving 30 miles to get my favorite cup cookies for my birthday. I stood there for a long time while a gentleman was serving a very indecisive customer. Once he was done with her, he walked off instead of acknowledging me. Then another woman behind the counter was finishing up ringing up another customer and was about to help someone else that hadn't been there as long. I had to but in and insist she help me. she did but she had an attitude. not happy

The new owners have not only done justice to the Kansas city classic bakery but I have to say improved tremendously on the old tradition. The expanded seating and menu makes Mclain's my favorite place for breakfast in town. The fresh baked goods are perfect for almost any occasion. The staff is consistently fast friendly and helpful. Limited parking can be challenging at peak times. Reasonable prices. When you get tired of all the chain coffee shops stop by and enjoy a true Kansas city orginal.

It was my first experience with McLain's Bakery. The place was packed, but service was prompt, cheerful, and fast! I can't wait to go back again next weekend. I had the market bowl with sausage. It was the perfect breakfast. If I had one complaint, it would be that they didn't seem to offer an option for non red meat... Such as chicken or fish. A lovely local spot that I would have given six stars, had I had an option.

Their customer service is beyond disappointing. Ordered a cake and began the process via email, in one occasion, it took them 3 days before they got back to me. Once the order is official, I'm instructed to call the bakery and make my payment. I called and a rude lady told me that they were not taking any orders right now. I had to explain to her that I had already talked with them and I was going to pay. Only after she realized what I was saying, she was happy to take my money. The day I arrive to the bakery to pick up my cake, this rude girl behind the counter tells me I need to stand at the end of the line and tell the cashier....SERIOUSLY? I spent 10 days going back and forth via email, I paid for this cake in advance, and they send me to the end of the line? I was not impressed with their customer service. For the money I paid ($$$) I expected much better treatment. I'm never ordering from here again.

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff was AWESOME, Jessica took care of us like we were royalty!! The pastries were unbelievable but my favorite were the almond danishes. They are so good I wanted to cry. As a matter of fact I can't stop thinking about ! You need to open a store in omaha!!! I would be your best customer!!!

Excellent staff, amazing baked goods, ample seating in an open ceiling environment. Convenient corner location just south of Brookside on Gregory. You can watch the baking happening right before your eyes with the open kitchen. Varieties of cookies, pastries, coffees and cakes on hand. You can order specialty cookies and cakes ahead of time online. In a hurry? Pick up a premade cake and they will write a message on it for you. Lots of cute non-edible gifts to browse. And did I mention the coffee?!? YUM Don't miss out on the day old pastries and breads for huge discounts, especially if you like to make croutons or bruschetta. Best bakery in town for a reason!

Stellar service!! I came into do a wedding cake tasting an hour late (complete brain malfunction on my part) and the staff was incredibly gracious and even went out of their way to make sure I was able to do part of a tasting while I was there. 100% recommended!

Everything was delicious. Had a mocha latte, so creamy. They make their own syrups, which is neat. Hubby raved over his veggie burrito. My farm breakfast sandwich was huge, had to save some for later.
