Great food done quickly. The choice of fresh fruit for a side instead of fried food is always refreshing. I will have to go back and try some of the other food they have to offer as there is a lot of tasty sounding food there. I had a burger and fruit and enjoyed it.

I have yet to have a meal from here I haven’t liked. Yes, the prices are a little high, but with that being said you’re paying for quality. I’ve had pasta, salad, sandwiches and soup and all have been fresh and prepared well. My favorite is their tomato soup. I also really enjoy their Salmon Melt. Most every time I’ve been it’s been pretty busy. It can be tough to find seating and sometimes it feels a little rushed, but the staff has always been friendly. They have a nice outdoor seating area. Not much of a view with all the construction, but still nice! I would recommend this place any time.

This review is on their downtown location at 801 Grand, Des Moines, IA. I had high hopes for this location, but the customer service has been lacking even after being open for a while now. The food is delicious, though some of it is overly priced (e.g. their fresh squeezed OJ is significantly overpriced compared to Farmhouse (which is nearby) and isn't made onsite; it's brought in from their Ankeny, IA location. As it relates to their customer service: I've requested high chairs so that I can bring my family. I was assured that they would get them ordered. They originally did not intend to have kids at this location. But the manager noted I wasn't the first to ask. He even followed up the following week letting me know he had ordered them. Six weeks later and still waiting. In addition, there have been reward member sign up problems (means that some of my purchases are not attached to my rewards card), stale cookies that were sold (cashier even noted it was "really old" but still served it to me), and every time I've modified the food (e.g. no jalapenos, no sauce, etc.) I've had to return it back to the kitchen because they didn't make it right. I'm hoping they improve the service and not go by the wayside like the previous restaurant did in this location. I am looking forward to the online ordering option they are hoping to roll out.

Ordered a double chocolate protein drink. It didn't knock my socks off, but I believe they kept there recipe legitimately healthy! It was good! The atmosphere was amazing and staff was super friendly. I honestly can't wait to go back!

I will echo the hundreds of other glowing reviews and say this place is absolutely the best. It is such a nice addition to Ankeny. I am usually there once a week for their breakfast croissants or black bean burger salad. They are so accommodating and their cakes are to die for!

So far pretty good! We got in and recieved our food pretty quickly. They bring your food to you and bus the tables once you're done. Wide variety of things are available. Yes it may be a little more expensive than McD (read through some other reviews to address things). Still on par with some similar noodle shops I've gone to. The bread they included was better than average IMO. Just FYI, we went for dinner.

Stopped by for lunch and tried the shrimp pesto. It was a great value for the price and the fresh bread was spot on. The establishment was nice and their menu offered a wide variety of salads, sandwiches soup, pasta, and your regular coffee drinks. What I appreciate the most was the staff. They were all very quick with everything and attentive to detail. Overall, great place for lunch. It does get pretty busy so plan ahead.

similar style to Panera but WAY more food for the same price. They also have an enormous menu including sandwiches, wraps, melts, burgers, fish, salads, and soups. Each meal comes with a soup or a salad as well for no extra charge.

When I ordered smoked brisket and Mac and cheese it came mixed up in a big bowl...not much flavor..had a bowl of broccoli n cheese which was delicious. Service was excellent...its basically a deli. You order at the counter from a menu on the wall.

I love Mainstreet! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner and dessert is great, consistent, and the service is excellent. Great place for gluten free food and baked goods, they are good about cross contamination too. Highly recommend for any meal with the family, a business lunch or place to meet friends. They also have free WiFi.

Lovely place for lunch. Usually pretru quiet around 1-2pm and strives to make any dietary changes needed to accomodate restrictions or even taste preferences. Staff is lovely and efficient and care if the slightest thing is wrong - they always more than make up for any mistakes.

I stopped in to have lunch with a few friends, and was immediately impressed by their array of cakes and baked goods. The cakes were GORGEOUS and looked super tasty, but alas I did not try any on this visit. Next time! I ordered a cold brew in their smallest size (which is a whopping 16 oz), with toasted marshmallow syrup and coconut milk. It was a solid drink, and I was buzzing for the rest of the day. I do wish they had a smaller size available for coffee-babies like me, but that's the only complaint I had about it. I would 100% order coffee from them again. For food, I ordered the Chicken Focaccia sandwich with broccoli cheddar soup as my side. Chicken Focaccia - This sandwich was good! It had plenty of sliced chicken, the cheese was nice and melty, and I actually liked the onions on this sandwich. I usually take onions off of my salads and sandwiches, but these were really thin and added a nice flavor to the sandwich. I would order this again! **The bread for this sandwich was also the perfect vessel for sopping up the remnants of my soup** Broccoli Cheddar Soup - Creamy, warm, and hit the spot. I am a staunch believer in crackers being offered or served with soup, and I definitely missed them with this soup. But it was perfect for a fall day. Every staff member we interacted with was kind and seemed to enjoy working here. I will be back again for some tasty drinks and grub, AND I will leave room for cake!

My mother, daughter, and I ate at Main Street Cafe. Each of us enjoyed our dish. The only draw back is that the desserts are very pricey. We took desert home. The bourbon peach cheesecake is delicious. The almond cake was much too sweet for my grandfather. We had to return an item that was cooked wrong. We received a refund.

We had stopped here before for dessert items and sweet treats, but finally tried them for dinner. I had the angry burger and the thai chicken and rice soup.. It was very good. My Special Ladyfriend had the frisco burger with broccoli cheese soup and she said that she really liked it. We also split some white cheddar mac and cheese and we both really enjoyed it. We will be back again!

Great menu selection and tasting food. Girl running cash register this morning could have been more friendly. Also my son ordered a waffle so about 15 minutes later they bring him 1/2 a waffle and tell me it was the other half to another order they messed up. Uh no,bring me a my whole waffle at once that is fresh and not in sections just so you could save a few bucks.

We went there for lunch for the first time. The place is nice bright and airy. The menu is very good however they stopped serving breakfast item with sauces at 10:30am. That’s so weird. For example I want to order the hollandaise dish from menu item but they can’t serve it. Also they put up menu items in chalk board that is not yet available. Which I do not understand either. Also portion is super small for the price. The worst is the server. We did not get the folk and knives when our food was served so we asked for utensil and I uploaded a photo of how they were given to us. No joke! I’ll not be coming back to this place again.

First time here but I'll return it was the Best chicken tortilla soup that ive ever had,the salads,desserts yummy.look forward to trying breakfast in future. First thought it was kinda pricey for soup salad combos around $9-$10 but portions was big (soup bowl not cup) and lots of toppings on salad,alot of pecans and berries,loved it.so price was reasonable after I saw portions and ingredients and taste,well worth it. Dessert portions r big enough for two. Only thing bad I can say is the person who helped us didn't know much about menu and ingredients in items ,I had to read menu to find out ingredients , she might have been new?? ( but so was I) but she needed more training and needed to smile and speak up,very soft spoken girl who acted tired and felt she was annoyed at even helping us,I told her it was our first time coming and I was sorry I had questions,but she just looked at me, then kept looking to coworker for answers who was with other customers.in fact when we first arrived there was a line ,when I was next she just stood at register looking down never greated us or asked to help or said hello, only thing she asked was what kind of bagette each of us wanted, we both said white,but we never got them,so think it didn't come with combo meal? She asked what side my son wanted with wrap but when I asked the sides were? She said them fast and couldn't hear her,I asked again,and again she rattled them off so fast,i then asked if he could get soup? Not sure if that was an option or up charge? But it was worth it. She didn't tell us where drinks or Silverwear was, she left cups and dessert on counter for us but didn't even see her do this after we paid and sat down, someone else brought the stuff on counter to us with our food ( food came out fast) So if customer service is better I'd give 5 stars because food and atmosphere is 5 stars.

This place is always talked about. My husband's company is always catering it in for out-of-town business guests. It's a very relaxed atmosphere: order up front and find a seat. Don't go with a large group during busy hours, it will be hard to find a seat.

Interesting cafe. Soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, assorted specialty fruit type drinks. And then there is the bakery with cakes, cookies, bars and brownies. In other words, if it includes lots of sugar, it must be under glass somewhere in the cafe. It is exactly the kind of place my wife should not go. Order at the counter and served at the table. Service was fast and friendly. Food tasted good -- not great- but good and the portions we're rather small for the price. Thus only four stars. Would I go back? Sure. Too much on the menu I haven't tried not to go back.

Clean and cute. Went around 10-11 on a Sunday. It was a steady stream but the line and food were fast. There was staff to quickly bus plates from tables and wipe them down. I had the chicken fajita scramble and my hubs had the biscuits and gravy - both tasted great and weren't huge portions but very filling.

Food is so yummy! I keep going back for their wicked tai soup. Watch out for the bakery, it will trap you with it's incredible cakes, cinnamon rolls and all sorts of goodness. The prices are medium to high. Service is usually pretty good. I'm not a health nut but I do wish they would have calorie counts on their menu. Even the to go menu would be nice.

Food is good, wouldn't say outstanding. Location is definitely pretty contemporary inside, creative layout and seating. Prices tend to be on the high end for most menu items especially single slices of cake, but as far as those bakery items are concerned they are absolutely delicious. Overall for a meal it's an average location, but for the bakery it's outstanding.

Amazing food and friendly employees. Come hungry or expect to eat the other half of your meal the next day. I would highly recommend calling ahead to avoid waiting (they make the food fresh after it's ordered but well worth waiting). Late lunch hour on a Saturday still had the place packed. I can only review the cakes, as those are what I purchased. I got two of their large, layered cakes for a dinner party. I believe the flavor was pink Moscato, for both. Aesthetically, the cakes were pleasing. Taste wise, they were unimpressive, and one note. The frosting was extremely sweet, which I didn't mind, but the cake itself was dry and crumbly and lacked flavor. The price to me, didn't match up. I don't mind buying an expensive cake if it's worth it, sadly in this case, it wasn't.

Every time I go, I’m left stuffed and still wanting more (because it’s THAT good). The gluten-free selection is fantastic. I have no idea how the g-free cakes and donuts are so delicious and fluffy. Most g-free treats are dense and dry, but these are like “normal” versions...and they taste good (a rare combo with g-free treats). The staff is consistently friendly and helpful!

Had a great breakfast there today. It was really busy with a bridal party starting there day here but service and food was still fresh and fast. We found the price to be excellent as well as the food. Our two children were also very happy with the food and portion size for the price. Main Street Cafe and Bakery now has a permeate home on our breakfast locations. Can't wait to go back and try lunch as well.

Huge variety of food and dessert. Their mac and cheese and their pastas are VERY good. Their cheesecake is outstanding. Expect to spend around $10 for a meal and $5 for a dessert.

Food and service were excellent. We were there during the busy lunch period and the cashier and another staff member were friendly and took their time explaining the menu and where everything was since we hadn't been there before. The service was above and beyond what you normally see. Food was awesome too.

Very good food for very good prices. Love the interior and atmosphere. I recommend the tropical smoothie and anything that's breakfast. Remind yourself of those great summer days at the lake while enjoying the greatest meal of the day.

Great place to eat. Friendly service. Fantastic ambience with the fireplace and comfy chairs. In my opinion, the French Onion Soup is to die for. For $25, we got to meals and a soda. Very affordable.

I wanted something light and with fresh veggies- I had the garden scramble-extremely well seasoned with each bite having all the veggies-YOU must try this! I also wanted some bacon-enough said- you must also have this! Eggnog latte was my desert- this is something else you must have- The service was personable-happy- not overbearing. Go and try/see for yourselves.
