I go there often. For the most part, their pastries and baked goods are really good. They make from scratch, so you can taste the butter in the lemon vanilla bundt cake slices.

Love Magnolia Bakery inside Block 37! It's hard not to stop in when visiting other shops inside of the mall. One of my favorite desserts is thr banana pudding which is to die for! My mini me loves their cupcakes which come in the small bite and regular sizes. Not to mention their variety of cheesecakes, cookies and cake slices. There's not enough I can say about Magnolia. Some bakeries have wonderful looking desserts but the taste is not great. Magnolia doesn't fail in presentation nor taste! Make sure you come with some $$$ because the typical price for a slice of cake or cheesecake is $7.00. Is it it worth it? Absolutely!

While the customer service is great, I cannot say the same for its famous banana pudding. I did not like it. It had too much whipped cream and not enough bananas and cookies. I am so saddened because I waited for years just to try some of their banana pudding.

Arrived 2 hours before close, and it seemed as if we weren't wanted there. Saw a tray of vanilla cupcakes and asked for one... They flat out told me no and I could only choose from the case (which has boring chocolate cupcakes). I used to go here a lot when I lived in New york; the cupcakes were bigger, the service friendlier. I recommend skipping this place and going somewhere with more variety and better service.

Definitely a 5 stars place for a dessert lover like me! Banana Pudding is incredible, I could finish a medium one myself. Please note that the Pudding is a little bit too sweet (comment by my companion.). If you love something sweet, it is recommended!

I have been to their location in Chicago and NY but because I frequent the Chicago location more, I am writing from here, though my experience holds true for the NY location too. Both the places are adorable! Pastel colors and cute signs; is the cute bakery we all have seen pictures of and loved. I have tried their many sweets - dark brownies, blonde brownies, red velvet cupcakes, cake slices but nothing compared to their banana pudding. I don't know what they do to it but man, it's fluffy and airy and so delicious! It's the perfect kind of sweet where you keep wanting more. The banana flavor comes through without it being overpowering and it's so light that you honestly can't keep track of how much you eat! I love it! I have taken some of my friends here to try and I have never met someone who doesn't like this pudding. Disclaimer: I am not a big banana in my food kinda gal, so this is saying a lot! If you have a Magnolia bakery near you, do go! They have all different sizes of pudding, so grab a small one for your first time but I promise you, you will want a bigger one on your next visit.

I visited in the afternoon so I guess it’s expected that the selection would be less than the morning. However there were only three types of cupcakes: chocolate frosting and chocolate cupcake, chocolate cupcake and vanilla frosting, or vanilla frosting and vanilla cupcake. The frosting also tasted dry as though they’d been sitting out. Again, maybe this was just my fault for having gone in the afternoon vs when they are made fresh.

I love going to magnolia bakery in general and this location is no exception. The staff was friendly and considerate. I usually go in for a carrot cake and if they don't have I get a blueberry jamboree or the blueberry cheesecake but they always check to see if they have any cheesecake in the back somewhere before I choose my back up options and I love that. Beware the place is usually crowded in the afternoons and late at night and the place is small so if you really want something you might have to stand outside and wait to go in.

The store is a Instagram dream with Tiffany colored walls and picturesque decor. The famous cupcakes are moist but the frosting too greasy. The banana pudding very disappointing, tasted like ordinary bananas with custard. Maybe try the icebox cakes and pies? Metered street parking, credit accepted, busy all day especially during holidays.

Pro Tip: Banana pudding is considered a liquid and will be confiscated by TSA at the airport. I had a brownie from there (which was fine) and found out they take away a lot of pudding, which is a tragedy!

This bakery was amazing!! Super cute and inviting. Cupcakes were pricey at $3.95 each and they seemed small with not much icing. I decided to pay $5 and get a piece of cake with more cake and more icing. It was sooooo good! Lots of flavours. Cupcakes, cakes, cheesecake, squares and more. Cake was $5 but you can get a 3 layer piece for just over $7. The cake was so good that next time I’m getting the $7 piece!! Cute little patio out front as well.

Like magnolia, though it is not fabulous. It sturdy good cake. Cup cakes nit so terrific. Purchased them for Easter. They were not a hut. But if you just want a slice of cake for lunch, snack or dinner..it is the place to go. Service at Grand Central fabulous. Service on Bleeker good but always exhausted and really don't care. Penn Station us great to buy for gifts before boarding your train. Simpler the item..the better. Fancier looks good..but doesn't give a grand result.

The Magnolia Bakery bun with cold butter is amazing. Sounds weird, but it's famous in New York. Egg tarts are good. Cash only but good prices! I haven't tried their other things, but in general, I would not expect much from non traditional things with like garlic/meat and cheese in them (I think they are cash grab items or something).

Believe the below 3-star ratings. Today was my first visit and it wasn’t a pleasing experience. I browsed each station before choosing a caramel pecan cheesecake and banana pudding. I had to get the staff’s attention before getting noticed to place my order for the items that I wanted. Checking out was mediocre, however to earn a higher rating would take an exceptional experience. The entire visit would have been amazing had it been stellar from the moment I entered the store to leaving it. Providing a great customer service experience is an art and has to come from the top down.

Went in for a red velvet cupcake and it was horrible. The cupcake was extremely dry and had no flavor it literally tasted like it came from a box. Plus the bottom was border line burned. We ordered two three-layered cakes for a retirement ceremony. Unfortunately, at time of pick up they only had one cake ready. I would have given it three stars, but we did place the order only a day in advance and this is a small bakery with a high clientele. We chose to take another cake that was already baked and frosted; both cakes were equally delicious. The staff is vibrant, friendly and respectful. The bakery is small but spotless and the prices are fair considering the location.

The banana pudding is absolutely phenomenal. They sell it in small, medium, or large sizes. They also have larger party servings - essentially, buckets of the pudding - that you can purchase. The bakery has a huge assortment of cupcake flavors, and a nice selection of mini cheesecakes. The caramel pecan cheesecake is to die for. This location is small and gets busy quickly, but the workers are efficient and helpful.

As many people say it, the famous banana pudding is a hit or miss. I guess I tried it for the first time and it was more of a miss - nothing special. Now this spot very cool and calm. The German chocolate cheesecake is definitely a 9/10. I don't usually rate that high but this is by far the best in my opinion. As soon as you take the second bite you taste all the authenticity of the cheesecake. This is definitely made by scratch. The coconut flakes, the crust, the cheese and the chocolate all complements each other to be the best cheesecake you have ever tasted. I suggest the German chocolate cheesecake.

This is one of the best bakery shops in Chicago. This is an New York style place and the music is relaxing. From cupcakes, muffins, slices of cakes, coffee, brownies, and many more selections. Surroundings its by buses, trains, an Target across the street, Walgreens, and many other stores. My favourite are the brownies and my mom favourite is the carrot cake. The atmosphere is laid back and the workers are friendly. This is a nice hangout spot for friends, family, dates, classmates, and co-workers.

The banana pudding is the best I've ever had. I have some every time I go see a movie at the AMC upstairs. It's too bad absolutely everything else is completely sub par. I've had cookies, blondies, a few other things: they're all just bleh. Also the lemonade is the worst lemonade I've ever had. Completely too sour. It was six bucks and I had to throw it away. Don't order anything from this place except the banana pudding.

Banana pudding was good but not worth 4.50 for a small cup. The cupcakes however--the main attraction for anyone who knows Magnolia--were sub-par. Short, stout, dry, overly dense. Frosting (chocolate) tasted more of sugar than chocolate. Actually, the whole thing tasted of sugar more than vanilla or chocolate. A true disappointment.

Love this bakery! I’m so glad this is in Chicago! I have found pudding that I have an addiction to - the banana pudding is super good. They have a huge selection of baked goods. It’s very warm from all the baking and the decor has a very homey feel. Their banana pudding is so popular that people order huge sizes. I have some pics of it a day before Thanksgiving. People were getting it catered. The flavors come in chocolate banana pudding and a seasonal pumpkin gingersnap banana pudding. I only tried a red velvet cheesecake because I’ve been coming just for the pudding. So the cheesecake was lovely! It tasted like how it sounds. It looked perfect outside too. I saw that they make their own chocolate. I grabbed the red velvet one too. It was sweet but it’s chocolate so that’s understandable.

My favorite bakery in Chicago. Originally from New York. The bakery is famous for their cupcakes. But my most favorite menu is all the mini cheesecake. Recommend to try the vanilla bean cheesecake. The seats are usually full so prepare yourself for takeaway.

And of course tea, coffee and other beverages. You have to stand up if you decide to stay. There's a small loveseat as you come in into bakery, but it's not worth sitting on-too low

I went here two weeks straight just to try everything once. So if you’re reading my review, know that I sacrificed my body for you. Atmosphere: it’s sweet, young, innocent. You can’t help but become a child when you enter this place. It’s get crowded fast so appreciate the space you have if you’re ever in there alone. You won’t be alone for long. No seating inside. You can sit at the park across the street. Service: the staff is friendly. They really make this place special because not only are they selling you the sweets but they’re also making the good, cleaning the space, and have to deal with their own life. So let’s keep that in mind before you waste their time. They helped guide me to which dessert is my liking and which I personally should avoid. They were right too. Food: variety for many. It’s classic American memories. No vegan goods. Everything has butter and eggs. Don’t ask for anything new age. If you like sweeter stuff go for: vanilla with buttercream, chocolate with buttercream, the brownies, the fruit bars. If you like less intense sweetness go for: carrot cake, hummingbird cake, blondie bar, German chocolate cake or the icebox cake. Their most popular cake: carrot cake. Their less dense cake: icebox cake Their most dense cake: German chocolate Their most popular item: banana cream If you’re keto ish: go for the icebox or banana cream. I mean I’m just trying to help. It’s all fat. :) If you love texture: go for hummingbird or carrot or coconut cake. The cupcakes never satisfy me. I always want more.

Lives up to the hype! We had the banana pudding and a vanilla cupcake with chocolate buttercream frosting, as well as an iced coffee. The banana pudding was probably the best I’ve ever had - exceptionally smooth and amazing flavor. The cupcake was also perfect. Iced coffee was strong and flavorful, and they gave a lot of it. I am a Detroit native who visits Chicago to see my girlfriend & thankfully I looked up this place when I visited this weekend. The line was pretty long but moved very quickly. The staff here are efficient, they greet you with a smile & get you exactly what you need so you can check out in a timely manner. I am always super skeptical about banana pudding because as we all know everyone has their own spin on it. I do not like the artificial jello tasting pudding. I also need the banana to wafer ratio to be just right for the pudding to meet my expectations. This place actually made the pudding just the way I like it! In fact, I had it twice within 24hrs & I don’t regret a bite

I love this location, their cakes, deserts of all sorts are absolutely delicious and addicting! I placed an order 24 hours in advanced for a dozen cupcakes with an edible image (I chose a Bitmoji image for my husbands birthday) Magnolia Bakery's customer service representative directly got in touch with me and the made the process seamless! They were ready on time and looked just as I hoped they would and couldn't taste more delicious!! My husband was so surprised and happy! It's been years since I've eaten the magnolia bakery in new York and decided to drop by the Chicago location this past winter. As it was chilly out, ordered some tea, but it was mainly a standard tea bag in hot water. Helped warm up the fingers, but nothing more past that. Banana bread pudding was as delicious as I remembered, but I think I was more blown away by the red velvet cake. This slice is huge and it does not taste overly sweet or heavy. The frosting wasn't a standard cream cheese frosting which helped, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to finish this sweet treat. Recommend dropping by for the famous pudding, but would be looking forward instead to the variety of cakes if I drop by next time.

Honorable Meh! Ya know, the people here are beyond nice, the cakes are ultra-rich and decadent and the location was cozy enough. But, I mean, in this ready to disrupt environment there are already a million little pastry shops like this everywhere. Honestly, it's gonna take some more pizzazz to make me a regular. To be more specific, we need organically created excitement and surprise from brands to keep us interested; especially from the not so hard to find artesian bake start-up. The thing is, that surprise is so necessary for a company to remain today. My friend and walked in and were greeted warmly by the team and the lux display case. It was a bit later in the day so the display wasn't as full. That's a good thing and out of their control. However, I will admit a full case may have eased my 3-star mindset. We couldn't make up our minds on which delectable pastry to finish off, lol. After asking two bakers for help; they tried but just were not energetic or helpful. Sorry guys, it's a freaking bake shop, smile please. Anyhoo, my friend and I both decided on the pecan pie. It was a bit underwhelming but not terrible, kinda like Magnolia. There were loads of pecans but I think it was their best batch, aw. It tasted and looked like it may have been sitting out a bit long. The vibe was very off too. Like it could be a quaint little New York style coffee and sweets shop but for who? Babies crying in front, frustrated students trying to study throughout and we went to the back of the place and saw some star-crossed high school lovers doing their thing. This would be a great community college cafeteria lol jk I value community colleges. Still, this place, described as a serene NY boutique bake shop was all but relaxing and satisfying. It's so unfortunate this place was so lackluster. Everyone was friendly here. I just couldn't endure the atmosphere and mediocre choices. This would've been a two star but I will admit the workers are great. I could tell they had a lot to do, yet they still did what they could to inform me of the place. I'll probably be back in the morning. Hopefully, the vibe is brighter and more ebullient. We'll see. Have you been here before? Let me know if I'm wrong. Update soon.

This place is a classic example of the term overrated. The icing tastes the exact same as what you'd get out of the carton from any grocery store and the cake, while moist, is incredibly sweet. So sweet that it ruins the overall taste. Anymore than 2 bites and you have yourself a nasty stomach ache. I ordered a birthday cake, cupcakes, cookies, icebox bars, brownies and banana bread pudding for a birthday celebration and everything was bad except the salted caramel cookie, brownies and pudding! The icebox bar is not made traditional style... it is extremely thick and heavy. The only thing I will say they do well is the banana bread pudding. This is what earned them the two stars from me! Very delicious.

wow,, amazing place. This place has lines because the actual store is very small. Worth the line. Our part of 6 only waited 2 minutes to get in. And thank you to Alex who wrote a review and recommended the blueberry jubilee bar, when I went in the store I remembered him, and although it didn't look apetizing, I trusted him and got it, and he was right , the blueberry jubilee was sooo amazing, so heavenly. I would also recommend the banana pudding, but the hazelnut flavor. I always thought banana pudding would be watery, but theirs was nice and thick, and looked and tasted like ice cream , with bits of banana and other delicious things. Cupcakes are good too, they are similar to the Georgetown cupcakes. Blueberry Jubilee bar is recommended and the hazelnut banana pudding. I haven't tried anything else but would like to try all their options one day. Awesome place.

The food was quite nice, delicious chai tea. But the service was the worst I’ve ever seen, when we asked for a Diet Coke, we were given a warm bottle with the metal bottle top still on. We later had to ask for a bottle opener and cup with ice. The iced drinks where cups full of ice giving us less than half of the actual drink we ordered, and at the extortionate prices this is quite frustrating. They also just handed the drinks onto a table, no acknowledgement of whose they were or what they were leaving grand confusion. They also lacked enough seating inside.

I’ve been enjoying Magnolia Bakery desserts since Sex and the City made the Bleecker Street location famous. This location, however, is truly hit or miss in every aspect. The vanilla cake is dry (the icing actually separates from the cake), but the chocolate cake is fantastic. If you’re a Southerner, skip the banana pudding...it’s probably fine for everyone else since it’s not a traditional Southern recipe. The majority of the staff is lovely, but there are some folks here who should not work with the public. The shop is nearly always clean and the location is ideal, but for the prices, there should me more consistency throughout.

Went twice and very small selection. The second trip picked up a caramel pecan cheesecake (rich and creamy), Christmas cupcake (no flavor and dry), banana pudding which was stuffed in a container which made for a soggy crust and sloppy pudding. I've been to Magnolia in Grand Central and gave a 5 star rating (see my history). They have great cakes, cupcakes, and service and move a huge volume at that location. The Chicago version doesn't seem connected at all. At 1PM on the 26th they served old leftover cake that was dry and crumbly. The staff was disinterested probably because they knew they were serving garbage to chumps like my wife and me that thought they baked goods daily.

Good not great, though they were out of the banana pudding by the time I arrived, which was the reason for my visit. Got the last slice of cake and it was a bit dry by then. Also the ordering situation they have going on is very confusing. You have to order at all the stations first before paying but it feels like you are cutting the line.

Ordered a custom cake for my mom's 80th birthday celebration at Magnolia Bakery Bleecker Street a few weeks in advance. I even called them a few days prior to check in to confirm they had my order and to update the inscription. When we arrived the day of to pick up the cake, they couldn't locate it. They told me they would make another cake and would deliver to our venue. Unfortunately during transit the cake moved in the box and the icing and decorations were destroyed on the sides. The cake was still quite good but overall not a good experience with service.

The banana pudding is a hit or miss. Sometimes it’s fresh and flavorful, other times the bananas are old and that definitely affects the flavor. I’ve had the German Chocolate cake and that’s good as well,sometimes dry. The jubilees have a lot of nuts. I fell in love with the apple pie, but that started to lose its flavor. It started to have undercooked crust bland apples etc. when it’s good it’s mouthwatering when it’s bad it’s just disappointing

we came here for banana pudding at about 11am after St. Paddy's day. they had been cleaned out the day before, so we had a cupcake, muffin, and toffee cheesecake + a coffee and hot chocolate instead. the hot chocolate, cupcake, and muffin were nothing special, but the cheesecake was delicious. it's fun to be able to watch the dessert artisans work, as they have an open concept kitchen visible when you're sitting and enjoying your sweets. very cute decor as well. lots of natural light.

Great space and anxiously top notch products. Backed goods looked pristine and the espresso was delightful. Online that wasn't great was shortcuts were taken in drink prep. The hot coco with whip on the menu didn't have whip on it into we asked. While that specific barista seemed to find out too much to make the drinks as described, the rest of the staff was great! I'd definitely go back there.

I have never been at the NYC Magnolia location, but I am pretty sure this one in Chicago is here to stay. It is fresh, baked daily, very tasty. I won't list my favorite deserts here. Take a look yourself and decide which one is your top 10.

We had the peanut butter cheesecake. It was light, fluffy, and especially delicious coming from Europe where peanut butter anything hardly exists. The only downside was there's nowhere to sit here so we just took it back to our hotel.

NY's West Village bakery darling has a Downtown Chicago location that does not disappoint. Their famous Icebox cakes and puddings are here and best for sharing. One slice of their cakes can easily serve two people. I enjoyed (and did not share!) the Hummingbird cake, made with bananas, pineapple and pecans in a moist yellow cake. Cool and all but I don't think it's as dope as the one's in NYC. Just my one cent. But I did enjoy the chocolate banana pudding. Definitely worth trying to grab that while you still can.

As a foodie, gotta love how classic and unique this spot is. Love their special order cakes too. They even have locations in korea, the middle east, and parts of the world I didnt even realize they were in!
