Got 2 of their chocolate flavors. Their butter cream was a tad bit on the sweeter side. Very average tasting, nothing to special about it. The butter cream was a little grainy and the cake was good and moist but not a place I would visit again. Just a very average place with nothing really special atleast for chocolate desserts.

Almond croissants are delicious! It was expensive but good! savory croissant and chocolate croissants are ok. the wait can be really long though so give yourself 15-30 minutes if you have somewhere to be! :)

If your intent is to grab a coffee and get some work done, this is your place. Alliance has a separate workspace 1 door down with a quiet, inviting atmosphere, tons of work space, couches, etc., and loads of power outlets (by design) and decent internet. Thank you Alliance for providing this work area. It's a neighborhood gem, in my opinion and my favorite place to tuck into your work.

I used to live right behind Alliance, and it was one of my favorite things about living off Division St. My favorite thing to order is the Almond Croissant. SO GOOD! They have Intelligista coffee, which is also amazing. I have also used them for a custom cake order and was very pleased with the quality and service. Their attached lounge is perfect for a lazy Saturday or study session.

Alliance Bakery made our day!! We ordered a two-tier cake for our baby shower recently and they churned out the most beautiful cake that looked like an art form. I sent them a pic to use as a reference and they made the cake to match the pic to the dot. I called all the custom cake shops in Chicago and they had the best rate. I saved a portion of the cake decoration as a remembrance. HIGHEST QUALITY, BEAUTIFUL DESIGN AT THE BEST RATE!!

This coffee shop was one of the original reasons i moved to Chicago from the suburbs. Relax with a cup and go nuts on your laptop. They've spruced up the interior several times (liked the original thrift-store look best) but it's still a fantastic place, winter or summer. Pastries I find a little dry sometimes but overall good quality stuff.

We bought two cupcakes, they put them in the box wrong so when we opened them up the frosting was all messed up and half of it was on the box. The cupcakes also must have been sitting out. They were not fresh because we ate them a day after we got them and kept them in their box so they wouldn't get stale and they were completely stale. Never going back.

I had the most delicious and exquisite vanilla and chocolate, strawberry cake made for my 7 year old son. I provided them photos of his favorite Egyptian Pharaoh Thutmosis and they brought it to life! Very professional, visually beautiful results and delicious at the same time. Give them adequate notice and they'll put a smile on your face!

What amazing array of yummy goods! Plus excellent space and staff. Never ever want this place to ever go away. Do they sell vegan and or gluten free? Might have missed it but saw none. The spaces for sampling, to sit inside and out and great. Amidst bro bars and noise, they bring class and integrity to the declining phase of Division as it descends into late gentrification.

So I was walking along the street when I happened to see macaroons out of the corner of my eye. I had to stop and try them as the assorted colors drew you in. It was a great desert and my favorite was the sea salt caramel along with the rose. I did a little mental math later that angered me a little bit. I paid $19.25 for a box of ten macaroons and they were being sold for $1.75 each. This place would have gotten an easy 5 stars for me if I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off a bit to buy a box. I didn't think about it until after we left though. All things considered. Everything I tried was good. Just remember to buy individually instead of the box.

That was my bad, so my cousin didn't get her Tiffany Box Cake but I got my money refunded today (10% was charged.) Had a specialty birthday cake made for my boyfriend's 30th. I brought them my idea and they delivered way beyond my expectations (which were high to begin with -- have you SEEN the cakes in their window?). Not only did the design come out great, the cake tasted good too. The staff was very friendly easy to work with. I also snagged a chocolate praline cronut while I was waiting for them to package up the cake -- delicious. Highly recommend, especially for specialty cakes!

Oh wow! Where do I start? I'm a red velvet fanatic. This place hit the spot. Decor was very simple but classy. I was on my way to visit some friends and when we walked past the door we could smell the aroma. MMmmmmmmhhh! :) This place had very friendly staff. I'm used to just picking up Jewel or Dominicks pastries, so the staff was very helpful and they knew just how to serve what I wanted the next time I came in to purchase some specialty cup cakes for a co-workers birthday. I will never go back to grocery chain pastries again. This is the spot! Keep up the great work!

I tried their hazelnut sponge with hazelnut chocolate filling and hazelnut buttercream. They used some sort of European buttercream (Swiss or French). It combines beautifully with the filling for a melt-in-your mouth experience. Flavors and texture were on point. Definitely one of my favorite cupcake shops in Chicago.

We went to the State street location to try to find a cake for my daughter's birthday. Typically places like this have some 6 inch/8 inch cakes that are fresh and readymade everyday and we figured we would try to see what they might have for the next day. After waiting for several minutes, a young woman (who until then had been engaged in conversation with someone else who presumably worked at the place) came up and asked us what we wanted. We told her we were looking for a small cake. She said they only had three cakes and said that was all they would have tomorrow as well. We asked her if there were going to be any other cakes in by tomorrow and she said no, that was all they had, that was all they were going to have and if we wanted to order we would have to do it a week ahead of time. Here we were, just looking for a simple readymade cake and apparently we either had to pick from the three they had in their case (who knows how long those have been siting there! ) or wait a week? Pathetic. I guess they just didn't want to serve us.

A large coffee is only $2.75. Not only are the rest of their prices similarly amazing, but there's also 3 separate storefronts in which to buy, taste, and consume coffee/baked goods, respectively. Stop by this place if you're in the neighborhood and have either a sweet tooth or need a coffee fix.

Alliance made my wedding cake in July 2013 and they did an excellent job! I wanted a pretty simple design but they made it beautiful, and of course delicious. They were very flexible with options to combine two cake flavors (I had to give my fiance at least one thing he wanted in the wedding planning process...) and they were more than happy to deliver special desserts for our vegan and gluten free guests. Jennifer was really helpful with the few questions I had and our tasting was fun. I highly recommend Alliance Bakery!

After reading so many good reviews I decided to check this place for pastries and coffee and what a disappointment. I had an almond croissant, a cinnamon roll and a capuccino. Both croissant and roll were dry, cold and honestly did not taste fresh at all. Coffee was served on plastic cups, bathroom was out of the order and nothing in this place reminded my a Parisian or European cafe. Trying a different place next time for sure!

Great spot on Division, but to be honest, outside of the macaroons, it's just ok. A cheesecake was good but nothing special for $28 and basicallys serves 8 very small pieces. The macaroons and service on the other hand almost make up for the rest of the Hipster prices!

My husband heard of them from a coworker and actually purchased a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, my favorite, for my birthday last year. It was so stinking good we had to use them for our wedding desserts! We did an assortment of cupcakes and cookies and everything turned absolutely beautifully and so delicious! They were super easy to work with and very responsive while communicating through email. We will definitely be using them again in the future. I would HIGHLY recommend them for any baked-goods need!

Whether you are looking just for dessert after dinner, to take home for a few nights that week, or to get a custom cake for a birthday party or other event, Alliance is an amazing place to get your sweets. This was one of the first bakeries that we went to when we moved to Chicago, and it is still one of the best bakeries that we have been to in Chicago six years later. We just got our birthday cake for our son's birthday, and it was beyond anything that we could have expected. I took a screenshot on my phone and they perfectly replicated it onto his cake. Oh, any other things that they make that aren't sweet are delicious and so is there coffee. All around this place is great.

Doesn't look much on the outside, but don't let that fool you. Authentic French macarons by a real French pastry chef. That's why when you try rose macaron you will realize that this is true: IT TASTES LIKE THE ROSE SMELLS. I will be back to try other varieties one day, but for now rose is my obsession.

I went in just after 8pm on a Monday. They still had a bunch of options to choose from (even some Vegan options) and their staff were so nice! I tried their carrot cake cupcake and the red velvet cupcake. Both of the cupcakes were very moist and delicious, however, the frostings were a little different and I didn't care for them. I ended up wiping the frostings off and just enjoyed the cupcakes.

I called other bakeries and none of them could turn my order around that quickly. They don't typically make custom orders that fast but they made an exception and the cookies were perfect!

1. They prefer cash for smaller transactions (I.E. Just Coffee, or a croissant). 2. If you want to sit inside their lounge area, be sure to be quite. It's always silent as a graveyard in there. The room is separate from their register area, so the noise is minimal. 3. Sit outside, in the early morning if possible, and strike up a conversation with some of the regulars. I love their food, their drinks, the atmosphere, the patio, the cake display in the window (which changes periodically, currently they have a Narwal Cake! ). I'd say 99.5% of everything about this place is wonderful except how quiet the lounge is.

One of my favorite things to do in Chicago is stop by Alliance for an iced latte and a savory croissant. Yesterday I tried roasted red pepper and feta and it was as good as everything else of theirs I've ever tried (fantastic!). I ordered the cake more than a week ago and submitted payment info as per their instructions, and had no idea there was an issue. Wish they would have called. This hole-in-the-wall bakery is a nice little shelter for a cold winter morning in Chicago. The almond croissants and the chocolate croissants were nothing special, but the chocolate and peanut butter vegan cupcakes were out-of-this-world. Seriously incredible light and fluffy peanut butter frosting. Wow. Unfortunately, their little lounge area is a few doors down, but pretty nice. A good mood. The employees were competent, but not overly friendly. Overall, good vibe. Between the tasty pastries and the stack of newspapers, it seems like a great place to be a regular.

The cakes were absolutely incredible! So moist and delicious- everyone at the party complimented them on their appearance and taste. The gentleman that I worked with when I went in to order the cake was very cordial and helpful in helping me figure out what I wanted. They lost a star for the experience I had picking up the cake. I was told that I could pick up the cake ‘anytime on Friday’ and they open at 6am. I work full time so I went in to pick it up at 6:30 and was chastised for being ‘so early’ the woman behind the counter reminded me three time ‘you are early’ - I did not mind waiting and the cakes were ready so I was not sure why she needed to shame me for being there early in the morning. I also realized when I got home that I had ordered 3 vanilla macarons and 3 strawberry macarons for the engagement cake, and the cake came with 6 vanilla. This is a small detail but it was a fairly expensive cake, so I would have hoped it would have these details! The birthday cake with the sprinkles was one of their regular cakes, so it was $34 dollars (including the words). IThe engagement cake was a completely custom cake, and including the macarons ($2.50 each) it was $74.

The bakery staff itself are friendly but that products are what really shine. The individual tarts are delicious, especially the smore pie! The lemon bars and cupcakes are delicious. I haven’t had a bad experience with anything I have tried there. It is on the more expensive end. However, for the quality, it is spot on.

I often visit Alliance couple times a week. My only bone to pick with this place is Macaroon which was pretty awesome. However, I have tried a three-layered cake of passionfruit mousse and raspberry chocolate mousse on my friend's birthday, yesterday. They both are heavenly. Service: the place is tiny and wait times can be long during busy periods, but servers have always been friendly. Anyway, thanks for ethereal dessert experience, Alliance!

I ordered a birthday cake for my wife and it was excellent. The cake was a vanilla flavor with a butter cream icing. While mine was a low key design I have seen some very impressive cakes in the window. They also make decent lattes and have a small selection of good macaroons. Their cafe seating area next door offers a quiet place to work or study too.
