Great Food & Service! Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is the best I’ve ever had!
The food is very good and reasonably priced. The wait staff is very friendly.
Fast friendly service with great food. We love the cornbread, butter and honey.
Great food! You go away hungry it's your fault! WOW!!!
Oh lunch was so good. Pies are amazing
Food was phenomenal! Service was top notch. I highly recommend the vegetable beef soup. Great place to have lunch during my vacation.
Such a great place!
The open-faced chili burger was very good. Service was good, and the waitress was friendly. Overall, it was a good quality restaurant. I didn't try the pie, but it looks excellent.
Pie yummy pie. Service great service
Food was good. Loved the pie and Indian bread. Michelle is Awesome!!!
Good food, even better service. A real nice family environment
Sub par. Not anything special about the food. And the portions were small and expensive. Wont go back
Overall Dining Experience: I recently dined at the Panhandler and was not impressed. My wife and her parents all had the chicken fried steak which they all disliked. The gravy was most likely from a #10 can or bag; just add water. The steak was not cubed or tenderized. It was simply a piece of sirloin, or some other inexpensive cut of steak, that was breaded and fried. I had the house burger with fries. Fries were good, but the burger was bland. Obviously, no pre or post seasoning, which would have made the burger a bit more tasty. For a place that has "Pies" as the second word in its name, you would expect to see a brightly lit display, where all the different pies look delicious. What you see is one, dimly lit cooler with about a dozen or so cream type pies and a small display case by the register with baked fruit pies (no display light). Conclusion: The final bill with tip, tax (15% gratuity) & four sodas was $75.00. Would I recommend this place to others? If you happen to be in Sand Point, and there are limited other dining options, give it a chance. At least you know what to expect.
Wonderful fresh food. Service was great. Took a razzleberry pue home. Delicious!!
This place just has great food, and prices aren't bad either.
Food is great, waitresses are amazing. Must have the corn bread! It's just amazing
Good food and fair prices
Great wholesome family environment with delicious food!
Nice setting, tasty food, and excellent service from Ariel!
Love the atmosphere. Prices were nice. Service was friendly. Good special on a 2 steak dinners for 25 bucks.
Fantastic friendly service, great breakfast, and a really nice place. 30 years in business for the original owners, that’s amazing! I would definitely recommend this place and will visit again.
Great food. Got it to go. Will return. Nice servers.
They offer a free birthday dinner. They have great food most of the time and the staff are almost always nice. It can get busy but they do their best to keep things going.
Great pie and ice cream
Good food... and the pies oh my!!
We went here this evening. We had the 2/$28 steak special. Omg. Soup and salad great, awesome cornbread and the best seasoned cut of meat. We upgraded to 32.95 and got pie and coffee also. You should try this place if you've never been here. We'll be back. The 32.95 was for both meals btw
We were recommended to check out Panhandler Pies from several friends and coworkers. The place definitely has its ups and downs- My wife and I experienced a mixed bag when it comes to the food. And did not have a pleasant experience with the customer service. She ordered the Fettuccine Chicken and was disappointed- she described the chicken as dry and the sauce was extremely bland. Her exact words were "canned fettuccine sauce has more flavor". On the flipside, I ordered the Panhandler hamburger and enjoyed it. The burger was done slightly more well than I requested, but the crisped/toasted buns and the sauce for the burger was excellent. The bun of the burger did become super soft and ended up breaking up which made it a bit of a mess - but for me, that's something that I can expect from a burger. Out of the entire ensable, the fries were probably my favorite part of the meal! Crispy and seasoned to perfection. For our child, we ordered chili cheese fries. Again, the fries were delicious and my kid loved them, but he wasn't too big of a fan of the chili (he is a picky 2 year old, so that may not mean much). We ordered a slice of strawberry rhubarb and mud pie for dessert. The mud pie was... average. It was sweet and chocolately but nothing super exciting. Though bonus points for the oreo crust! The strawberry rhubarb was great though! Though I will second what another reviewer mentioned- the display for the pies at the front is dark and not super inviting. For as good as the pies are, i would think they should be spotlighted a bit more. Overall with the food, 3/5. My biggest concern with our visit was the customer service. I understand that it can be busy and difficult to manage and actively care for customers, but I did want to highlight some aspects that the restaurant could improve upon. To put it in straight terms, I feel that we were "brushed off". We were left on our own at the front counter for quite some time and felt as if we were being somewhat ignored. When we were ultimately seated, we found our waitress quite aloof and forgetful. For example, throughout the visit our waters were never refilled. Once the waitress came by with a pitcher but didn't acknowledge our empty/low beverages and made her way away after I mentioned I was happy with my burger. Also, we requested ketchup, more napkins, and some utensils for our 2 year old, the request was acknowledged but ultimately ignored until we had to call her over to remind her/ask again. Also, the waitress unknowingly/not realizing left her dirty table wiping cloth at our table when leaving to get our requests. We ordered our pie to go and requested our bill. We were waiting for quite some time (another 15 minutes or so). We had to pull our waitress back to the table again where she told us that there had been some mistakes made with the bill but to wait a little longer and it would get resolved. We waited for another 10-15 minutes (deciding to just eat our to go dessert because of the long wait... which we needed to request disposable utensils for) before finally getting our bill. We were told to pay at the register and ended up waiting there for another 5-10 minutes before another waitress noticed and thankfully helped us out. Overall with the customer service: 1/5. As a final summation: we are most likely not going to eat in at the restaurant anymore but will probably get takeout for burgers.
Great food, friendly staff, good service
The atmosphere is very homey
Can't decided if the service, or food was better!! This will become our regular stop in Sandpoint!
the Indian Fry Bread is reason to visit unto itself.
The food was fantastic. The service was great and make sure you save room for pie. The cinnamon buns were insanely good and as big as your head.
Best pie ever. Great cornbread and soups made daily
Wish they were open on Sunday - I'd be there every week! Otherwise food, service, atmosphere cleanliness, menu, etc. is all great.
They have fantastic pies, breads and a great 2 for $25 steak dinner with the fixings. It was very good and worth checking out. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
great pie good service
Food was great, very busy... Causing service to suck. Food came out to table like chapters in a book
Fantastic restaurant. Antiques everywhere. Down home charm. Fresh made food. PIES!!!
It was a horrible miss take don't waste your time or money
Delicious pies with a great variety to choose from. Service was courteous and helpful. Thanks Susan!!!
Always delicious. Love the waffles
Had the Belgian waffle and it was good. The service was excellent.
Always a great experience. We love the panhandler and it's owners.
The staff is friendly and the food is good and you get plenty of food for the price.
Good price great Food
Great service and food
Yummy food! Warm atmosphere with all the wood booths, and such friendly service that can only come from a family owned joint. We like that the sign says they are closed on Sunday "for family"! Decent pies too. We'll have to come back and try some of the fruit based pies, we were not impressed by cool-whip on top of the cream pies.
Good home cooked food and a lot of happy people in our group of 8 at a great price.
Absolutely love this place! Amazing food and amazing pies!
Lunch was great. Bought a cinnamon rolls for breakfast and it was really good.
Good breakfast but you have to ask for the good coffee every time!
Yum! Great food and pricing. Nice atmosphere.
I called for a sour cream raisin pie few months back ,24 hour notice which is reasonable request, got the pie next day and it was Amazing , so good thanks guys you never disappoint
Stopped in for lunch on a rainy day. Our waitress did a great job helping to get food quickly to my family. Chose mostly breakfasts items and a PB&J for one of the kiddos. Dang those fries were perfect! Eggs were light and fluffy. Mostly comfort food on the menu with some healthier choices blended in.
Really good comfort food served up in a friendly family restaurant. It also had a bit of a western folksy vibe. No alcohol is served but then its primarily a breakfast and lunch establishment.
Breakfast all day! Best service we've had in a while with real home cook'n. Love this place.
Food was plentiful, decent prices. Had the vegetable beef soup; comes with cornbread, fresh fruit and refill. Fresh fruit turned out to be a whole apple on the plate. Soup was just barely warm. Had lots of beef slices and some chunks of beef. Refill however was severely lacking; barely warm, again, and ONE single chunk of beef. Recent addition of peas and carrots had been made to the soup pot and you could tell they were the frozen variety. Others in our group were pleased with their meal; chicken pot pie and omelet. Both items were stuffed and delicious. Not my first visit here so a little disappointed.
Their food is the best in the area. The cornbread, soups, pies, sandwiches, steaks whatever you get tasted like homemade cooking!! It doesn't get any better
Had a good server. I really enjoyed my chicken noodle soup. My husband loved his pie. I didn't like mine as much but he had a different one. We had a great sandwich and pot pie too. Cornbread was yummy and service was quick.
A very comfortable atmosphere. The food portions are large and a reasonable price. Our server Kim was great. The pies were pretty good along with their burgers and sandwiches. Left feeling full and satisfied.
We have been eating here for over 20yrs and is our go to place , this place has great food and service. The love and excellent food preparation is like eating at Grandmas’ for Christmas dinner. Great pies too, Take One home for later
Comfort home style food and atmosphere. Good fresh food and salad, friendly staff, good prices. Yes the pie was good too. Highlight was our waitstaff and her attitude. Very pleasant.
Quaint place, homemade food and pie
Great food and if you go away hungry, something is wrong with you!
30 years of doing it right under the same ownership. There's a reason for that!
The best pies ever!! Great friendly service.
Good food and inexpensive.
Awesome food, great service and even better pie! I was pleasantly surprised by the unassuming building and decor. Old school diner, hone town feel. I definitely recommend this place.
Great food. Neat decor. Roomy booths.
Good atmosphere and service. I had the biscuits and gravy. Biscuit was great but the gravy was bland with a texture I can't quite describe. Will pass next time we're there.
The soup is very delicious but service is slow sometimes.
Occasionally the service is not amazing but the food is good and everyone is very friendly.
An excellent place to bring your family for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Very rustic atmosphere, and efficient service. Located in the heart of Sandpoint, it's a short walk from Cedar Street Bridge Public Market. Lots of public parking is available on site and along the streets nearby.
Slow service, it was not busy. A lot of empty tables but still waited 20 minutes to be seated. Chili burger was ok. Strawberry Rhubarb pie had no strawberries.
Great food but slow service
Best service, best all around food..
Terrific atmosphere. Friendly staff. Leah was our server and she was very attentive and nice. Food was great in large portions. Will definitely come back if in the area.
We loved this restaurant! Comfort food, nice quiet family type atmosphere, great service and good value. My wife told me to make sure I mention that her BLT had two layers of bacon... She was really happy.
Excellent breakfast! Large portions...we took home several to-go boxes and a fresh strawberry pie! So yummy!
The food was really good! Best meal we've had on vacation yet! And you have to try their pie. The mud pie was ahhhmazing!
Great birthday deal. Awesome food. Friendly service. Great experience.
Love our local pie place
Great food! Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff!
, this is a fantastic home-cooked restaurant. Their breakfast is fantastic the service is prompt you can't go wrong
Great service. Good food. Reasonable prices.
Nice family friendly place. Went here for lunch with a large group of us. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Food was good but nothing amazing... not that we were expecting that. The soup wasn't very good but everything else was fine.
Great food
Great food,great price,delicious pie
Best place for fast and delicious foods, and pies were amazing. Reasonable prices as well.
foods good only problem was the grandkids, as well as my self wanted scrambled eggs.cooked like scrambled eggs. what we got was cooked on the flat top, then chopped up. the pie went over big time. if u are in Sandpoint and want pie this is the place. we got a fresh strawberry pie. wonderfull and only $13.00.
It’s exactly what I was expecting and what I needed.
Had an excellent cozy dinner with my family it was nice.
The food here is great. All very fresh and delicious at a great price. The service is good also, everyone is very friendly. I got a piece of boysenberry pie and it was the best I have ever had.
I was not impressed. The food was good but the price for what you get is ridiculous. $10 for a small bowl of soup and cornbread and very plain salad. Wow.
I always stop by Panhandler when I'm in Sandpoint -- sometimes multiple times. The food is great, and the pie selection is outstanding. I highly recommend the lemon sour cream. Panhandler has been consistently excellent over the past decade, and they'll keep getting my business.
This was a great find! We’ve been driving from Denver to Seattle and stopped here for lunch because my husband was craving pie. Best meal we’ve had all week! Great food and the service was outstanding!
Love their pies and enjoy eating there. I especially love there soups! They always give you some soup to take home if that is what you ate for dinner/lunch.
Food is only ok.... service is great.
Family owned for 30 years great prices quality food. Friendly staff FYI closed on sundays.
Really comfortable setting with great food -- feels like eating at Mom's or Grandma's. Very tasty Reuben sandwich -- they use caraway rye with pastrami rather than corned beef. Caraway is not usually my first choice for a Reuben but the combination of flavors in this sandwich made it work really well. The pie crust is well made -- and we all know the crust makes the pie!
Absolutely amazing. Great food. Wonderful service.
Our favorite place to celebrate birthday dinners. The pies are all fantastic.
Emily is so nice and professional. Thanks for the great service and good food!
We went two nights in a row. That's a pretty big endorsement from me. Pot pie the first night and hot veggie sandwich with soup the next night. Both meals were excellent with friendly service. Prices were very reasonable.
Didn't try the pie, which is their thing. However, the Reuben sandwich was good, fries were amazing. Service was friendly. Interior was big, but felt cozy. A lovely diner for a family sit down. Also, the owner is a Latter-day Saint!
Decent place for a really quick meal but their menu options are very, very limited. Their prices are also a bit high. My daughter got pasta and there was maybe 1/4 of a small 16oz box that costed $5.19! To top it off, it was hard to get ahold of my server. This place might be nice for the locals, but not for people who don't like limited menus and whatnot.
Great family restraunt with great service, we love eating here
Pretty cool place good food friendly service
The food was great and the service was amazing. My only problem was that there was limited parking but overall I recomend it.
Food was good not so good for the price
2 steak dinners for $25.00 with choice of sides.... For that price you can't go wrong especially with the quality of thier beef!!! Melts in your mouth, every byte! Best steak I've had in a long time! Thank you Panhandler Pies!
This restaurant is a North Idaho classic! The service is stellar, and the food is equally amazing! You will not go away hungry!
Located within walking distance from the Sandpoint City Beach. The food tastes great with a wide variety on the menu. They have a nice selection of freshly made pies! The service is friendly.
For the good, the food was awesome. The cornbread was a huge portion and me and my husband were almost full just from the soup and cornbread. And the soup was very good. The steak I got was perfectly cooked and I loved the mashed potatoes and gravy. My husband had the teriyaki chicken and liked it but thought the rice needed work. It was a bit bland. And the coffee was a little weak for our personal taste, which could be more on us, I’m sure some people like it that way and it’s hard to make everyone happy. However, when I review, service is always what I’m most interested in and the service was not good. Our waitress acted like we were an inconvenience, she interrupted us to thank her coworkers that were helping with her tables like she was mentioning it so we would know she had other things to do, she seemed very exasperated that we had questions about what kind of steak was used and what the soups were, and she gave us our bill before we got our food. Which I find to be the absolute most rude thing a waitress has ever done. I’m hoping if we ever did go back, that we would have a much nicer waitress. However, for now, I think we’ll stay away for a while.
Fun interior. Lots of seating. Food was good. Pie...almost as good as my homemade. Like having breakfast all day. Will return.
The food was good as usual. Our waitress Sue was excellent and very attentive. Will be going back soon.
Best food in town! Fast, friendly service. Great family atmosphere!
Stop here every time we're in Sandpoint. Great food and service. Pies are wonderful!
Love this restaurant!! The food is consistently good and the service is terrific. I enjoyed their grilled chicken salad today. Not only was it delicious...it was huge! Everything is homemade and fresh. We always go back and are never disappointed.
Great food! Great prices! Great service!
Nice restaurant and good service. Enjoyed our meal.
Was here with my parents and sister. Me and my mom had the Navajo taco full portion, which was huge and delicious, while my dad and sister had the pot pie, which looked amazing. Emily, our server, was very polite and attentive. I will be back.
slow slow slow took 30 mins to get served , and the place is empty
Splendid place to eat...it's a real treat to have a slice of scrumptious homemade pie included with your meal. Good prices, good food...Don't miss it!!
Excellent food, reasonable prices, great service, ridiculously delicious pies. :)
Use to visit here frequently as a child. Anytime my family went to Sandpoint anyway. Great local staple eaterie. Pies are still as good as I remember! Next time your in Sandpoint, give them a shot! Prices a good, portion sizes are just right too!
We waited a while to be seated and waited a little longer for coffee. Our waitress was very sweet, but very behind. A man across from us was disgustingly rude so I was immediately sympathetic. The food, as always, was great! Don't come here if you are in a hurry!!!!!
Super delicious. Owners are fabulous and really take the time to address concerns.
Stopped in for dessert to go last night. Very polite & courteous staff, the building interior is particularly cool...reminds one of Cousins' in The Dalles, Oregon. Both pies were exemplary! Pecan & Mounds of Joy.
Best pies in town
Boysenberry pie oh my!!
Wonderful place to eat! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The cornbread tasted like something you would eat at grandma's house, delicious! The cheesy cauliflower soup was to die for! To top it off, the pie was definitely the reason for coming here! Will definitely be coming back.
Loved it really YUMMY
Nice breakfast
Great food and a friendly staff, we will definitely be back
Classic North IDAHO atmosphere.great food and services Best vegetable beef soup in town.
Cozy restaurant, good food.
Great food and service
Awesome, the food was great, I got the Belgian Waffle meal, I was weird with my order and they still not only gave me it how I wanted, but we're super awesome about it. My sister has allergies and they were great her too. We got our pies to go so I haven't tried them yet, but they look awesome. Definitely go if you can.
Great service. Great food. Friendly atmosphere!
The best pies. They make sure you get what you ordered. I love their fry bread. Try it with the soup
So delicious, had the fry bread taco
Excellent food at really good prices!
Good food
Cute place, great mommas home cooking type food! Get a piece of pie, doesnt disappoint!
Such a cute little restaurant. Great pie too!
First time here. It was ok. Cute atmosphere
I had the Reuben sandwich (substituted sourdough for the rye). Foodgasm!
My family and I absolutely love this place. Great portion of food
Love stopping here during our road trips. They have some really great pies!
Food is pretty good. But service is so slow its not worth the wait.
Good service. Our dining guests were enthusiastic but I thought the food and selection was just average. My husband and I can't even remember what we ate.
Very friendly and family bn oriented and comfortable place
Watered down coffee, gravy tasted bland and strange, and my egg that I ordered over medium was barely cooked. Nice atmosphere and staff but wish the food was better.
Scrumptious food!! I enjoyed it till i found a small hair in my fettuccini! The decor is really cute tho
We wanted to stop for a quick but good and filling lunch and could not have been more satisfied! Best beef soup and quiche Lorraine! The decor is a old west homey and really cozy and the service was friendly and attentive. So happy we stopped here.
Awesome food and pies! Great value.
Nice friendly waitress. Good food reasonable price
Great service and very good food.
